Stopped here out of the rain and we were starving. Honestly almost left again when I saw the price for the sunday dinner (£20+ when we'd paid £10 somewhere else a couple of days before). Decided to split the Sunday dinner instead and I'm glad we did. The roast beef was amazing, and so were all the side dishes and veggies. We added the pigs in blankets, they were delicious and crispy. There were really only a couple of issues I found with this place: - We did not see a meat option that my mum would be able to eat - she only eats white meat and fish, and I think the only meat choices were beef and lamb? - The sodas were tiny. I didn't know they made glass bottles of soda so small.

Popped in for a quick drink whilst visiting and glad we did! Macenna and Peter were very helpful, knowledgeable and welcoming! Thanks guys!

The food was perfect. The place was not too busy, and having a conversation at the table was manageable.

The worst food I’ve ever tasted, scallops were like rubber and the roast potatoes wasn’t even cooked, poor selection of vegetables and the man serving us was quite rude. Won’t be coming back!

The service here is exceptional. Friendly, clean and welcoming environment. The food is amazing and they had a great wine selection! We loved the fish and chips and the risotto dish. We sat down to eat with our cranky and hungry toddler and the waitstaff was so patient and kind in making some recommendations off the menu. Our food came quickly and it was delicious. We had such a lovely evening here.

Called in for a beer and a bite to eat on a snowy evening. Friendly welcoming atmosphere and great choice of beers. A mixture of diners and locals enjoying a drink. Lovely gammon and home cooked chips served with grilled pineapple, egg and a wonderful Parmesan salad. Great service and good value.

Had high hopes but food didn't live up to it. Starters were good portion sized and tasty. Service was good. Mains we had risotto and cod dish both lacked substance and most importantly any seasoning. Such a shame had expected tasty food based on previous reviews. Travelled from derby we wouldn't go back for such a lack lustre menu.

Beer selection is normally good with 3 guests on. Food is very tasty and reasonably priced.

We went on Wednesday "grill night" and had steak for 2 and a burger. The steaks were cooked just as asked and the included house red wasn't half bad. My daughter informed me that the burger was very tasty.

Great food, interesting menu, will be back. Had Scallop starter followed by Partridge, Crab Risotto, cooked to perfection (which is not easy). Good selection of wine and service friendly and professional. Nice atmosphere.

We came here last night for my sister's birthday. The restaurant was recommended to us, and we also read great reviews online. We traveled just under an hour to get to Ashbourne. We were served by 2 really nice waiters, very accomodating and polite. However, the evening took a disappointing turn when three family members returned their steaks, which arrived overcooked and excessively tough, contrary to their medium-rare requests! When the waitress informed the two chefs on duty about our steaks, you could hear and see the chef's frustration. The kitchen has an open viewing for the customers to see, I can only assume. The open kitchen layout inadvertently exposed the chefs' unprofessional behaviour, including audible swearing, loud commotion, and inappropriate gestures, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere for us as a family and other diners. The chef even waved and made inappropriate faces to my sister. The conduct of the chefs was particularly disappointing and marred an otherwise special family occasion. I am so appalled by this behaviour, in fact, we felt sorry for the waiters who did an incredible job in speaking and apologising to us. They too, felt embarrassed with what had happened. If this restaurant is going to have an open viewing where customers can see and hear everything, then ensure you hire a more professional chef. I hope this review does not fall on deaf ears and that the directors of this restaurant rectify these concerns. My gratitude goes to the two waiters who went above and beyond to assist us during our visit. Their dedication and professionalism deserve commendation amidst the regrettable incident.

Bit of a mixed bag. Service was nice but long wait for food (40 mins). Felt like a few things were missing from the dishes (lemon oil on risotto, truffle on fries). Also, very grumpy chef in the open kitchen which we could hear whilst waiting, didn't create the best atmosphere!

Arrived and ordered drinks we wanted four hot chocolates as part of the overall order but the kids wanted cream and marshmallows, they went out and got the cream and marshmallows just to please the kids Cam and Tom nice one 👍

Good points: Attentive staff who genuinely wanted to please. Lemon sole was great Not so good: Order took an absolute age to arrive - had to ask if it was coming. Burger was very average - haloumi was deep fried. Person on the table next to us sent their chicken burger back as it wasn't cooked properly. Overall: wouldn't go back which is a shame

Lovely atmosphere. Relaxed and friendly staff that made us feel comfortable. Great choice of music. Beautiful decor. Spotlessly clean. Great smelling soap. Loved how you can see chef hard at work in the kitchen. We both had burgers, which were amazing. One meat, one vegan. So fresh and tasty.

Just off the main drag in Ashbourne so it was full of locals on a Friday night. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. We had a really nice meal from a very interesting and thoughtfully created menu. All the staff were very friendly and seemed happy to be working there - and so made me feel like a valued customer. Will definitely be back for more good times and good food.

Absolutely delicious food. Today was our first time eating at the Green Man, despite having walked past it many times and living in the surrounding area. It's so frustrating to think why we didn’t pop in sooner. The food was absolutely delicious!!! And in the words of my husband, it was presented with an appearance worthy of being on MasterChef. The salmon and the Tarta de Santiago were truly delicious, and the overall experience of the friendly staff and amazing food made it a great place for a Bank Holiday lunch. We are so looking forward to our next visit and the Tapas evening. :-)

Service was very slow. 40 minutes at a lunchtime?? but the real issue was the portion sizes. £11 for a small platter of cold meats? £5 for a small dish ( a bit up from an egg cup)of padron peppers??. Just not good value for money.

Had to cancel a meal at another pub due to walk taking longer that anticipated. Parked in the square and didn't fancy the pubs there as they were too 'lively' for me. Walked down the hill and spotted the Green Man pub. It proved to be a welcome oasis far from the maddening crowd. We were made to feel very welcome, had great service by an attentive staff. The beers were good as was the quality of the food. I would definately go there again.

Expensive food and small portions. Slow service - twice we had to go find a waitress for service and we had to ask for them to set the table with cutlery. Staff didn't know what was with the meals they were serving and had to go ask the kitchen.

Stubbled across this hidden gem. Down an alley way from the main road the place is set back so you cannot immediately see it. We visited after a walk in the Peak District with our baby and was perfect. Staff were friendly and accommodating, high chairs provided and hot water. Plenty of choice of beers and plenty on new ones which aren’t very common. Perfect for a beer lover. The pub is also a restaurant and looked like it had been recently refurbished with modern stylish decor. Other guests were also friendly with a few locals taking time to chat and interact with ourselves and our baby. Highly recommend a visit.

Really lovely place in the heart of Ashbourne. We found The Green Man to be the perfect end to our day out in the Peaks with our baby. The staff were all super friendly and accommodating as were all the locals who stopped to chat or exchanged smiles with our son. There was plenty of choice in terms of ales/lagers with the opportunity to try things we hadn’t come across before. This place is a hidden gem in Ashbourne; it’s sleek, modern and crisp in decor, the toilets and baby changing facilities were all spotless as were the highchairs and the staff have excellent customer service skills. Highly recommend!

£13.90 for one glass of mediocre wine. Avoid this bar if you don't like being ripped off.

A restraunt with no food lol… on a saturday only one chef but no food available and drinks were london prices. Bar staff were apologetic but really a restraunt with no food!

Really like it in here. The partial separation of the bar and restaurant is nice, we've had a nice sit down meal and also just come in for drinks with a group and it's always nice either way.

We had dinner as part of a family trip to celebrate a 60th birthday. Great service, food, drinks and atmosphere. Our young servers were outstanding! Thank you for making our evening a good one.

They do traditional pub faire well fish and chips, sausage and mash etc bit i would stay away from the more bistro stuff. The burrata, pesto and rocket was watery rocket with horrid burrata, and others had issues with their starters and risotto. The staff were friendly though not very knowledgeable , being offered Makers Mark bourbon when asking for a malt whisky as an example haha.

3 couples away for weekend and visited Saturday 30th. Went to bar and got drinks. Tried to charge £14.50 for a cocktail that was £9 on menu. Starters came, calamari was very good, mozzarella dipped ok but the slider was poor. Had sliders b4 and you 2 or 3 little burgers this was one small burger for £8. Mains were 3 rump steaks which were very good but had to ask twice for steak knives and salt and pepper, bangers and mash had very little gravy and therefore was dry. Chicken burger was good but normal burger was very dry, my wife said it was worst pub burger she has ever had, small and dry and not very tasty. We didn't have deserts. Finally the bill. Tried to charge us for a cocktail that had been paid for at the bar and also tried to charge £19.50 for the steaks that were £18.50. This was put right when we pointed it out. Not normally one to complain but hopefully this will help improve things.

Decent price and choice. Can lack atmosphere midweek but great at weekends.

We visited just after Christmas and had the Wednesday steak dinner offer. 2 steak dinners with mash or chunky chips and a bottle of wine for £50. It was delicious and very well presented. The service was very good, along with the atmosphere. We will return as we really enjoyed our visit.

Top quality bistro pub in the centre of ashbourne. Had meals with two different groups of friends. Fantastic food and service as ever.

Disappointed with the meal. Two of the group had the beef and bubble and squeak, the veg was fine but the beef was tough and fatty. Nobody checked our table and we had to call a member of staff to take one meal away. This was refunded but again we were left without the offer of any more drinks or asked if we wanted a dessert. Eventually we got staff attention and spoke to the manager who claimed the restaurant / pub was busy and he was sorry. We will not be back, fortunately there is plenty of choice in Ashbourne.

Went in on Monday expecting to only get drinks and instead we were met by a friendly and efficient young man. The food was excellent and had some beautiful latte art. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a quick bite to definitely check it out - you will be met with excellent customer service.

Warm inviting great selection of food and drinks would highly recommend visiting. Pinder and all staff are brilliant at their craft and enjoy visiting when in town.

Good for beer, but much better for wine.

Mistakes happen, did they accidentally forget about us after we ordered? yes they did, did they admit and apologise for the mistake? Yes they did. It’s easy to leave a bad review on that basis, but that’s not constructive for any business, mistakes do happen, and it’s what happens after that, that truly matters. After admitting to the mistake our food was prepped and ready in a timely fashion, and standards did not drop as a result. Yes I could be picky and say the salmon was a little dry around the edges, but overall it was succulent and juicy with a nice crispy skin. Not sure about the brown shrimp in the risotto, from an additional flavour viewpoint, but it was a good, creamy, cheesy tummy filling risotto with well balanced flavours and ingredients. Even the spinach was wilted to perfection. My partners pork belly, OMG, crispy skin, bang on, seasoning spot on, pork belly cooked in its own juices, absolutely lip smacking tasty. Her sisters steak was tender, but slightly chewy, but hey that could easily be the cut of the steak, I’ve cooked enough in my time to no that beef isn’t just about the chef’s abilities, it’s all about that meat. But the garlic butter it was cooked in, well again, flavours were absolutely fantastic, if I had one negative, I would say the chunky chips were a little soggy and could have been fluffier inside. Overall, if you are near Ashbourne pop into the Green Man for some food, you won’t be disappointed.

Lovely atmosphere and great little venue. Food was excellent. However, the service was almost non existent. The manager, although lovely, spent all her time talking to people who were not customers. We had to wait an age to get served. There were more staff than customers, nevertheless, the bar staff seemed to be intent on feeding and coffeeing themselves while completely ignoring the customers. A bit poor seeing as they got the rest right. And easy to fix.

We had a wonderful lunch. The service was good and also made our dog welcome.

We came here twice during a short stay in Ashbourne. Once to sit outside and have dinner and drinks, when the food was tasty, service excellent and surroundings very pleasant. The next day we sat inside to watch the women's world cup final- and again, great food and friendly atmosphere. Dog friendly in the bar and outside.

The food was part warm, part cold. The lager and beer was fine. It should stop serving meals and focus on the pub side

Went here with my dog Burt, whilst staying in a cottage nearby. Ordered the beef and the raspberry cheesecake from the Sunday lunch menu. Probably one of the best Sunday lunches ever, plenty of beef, and it was soooo tender, good amount of perfectly cooked vegetables. The cheesecake was heaven on a plate. Young, friendly staff that made a fuss of Burt. I usually feel awkward in hip places like these, but I could’ve stayed there all afternoon if I hadn’t been driving. Will recommend, and will definitely be back when I am in Ashbourne again.

Nice quiet, sit-where-you-like courtyard deck. Great food and friendly service. The sirloin sandwich is recommended for a light lunch and no problems at all getting a bottom-of-the-barrel pint changed without quibble.

Food was great, staff didn't seem to have a clue what was going on. Ordered food and before the starter came a waiter asked if we wanted the desert menu. After the starter the girl who took our order asked if we wanted the bill. I said I would prefer my dinner first. Then we were just served a bowl of cauliflower cheese and the waitress seemed surprised when we asked for our main course to go with it. A bizarre experience. Food was very good though.

We had a late lunch, a pint and 2 snacks, so we shared 4 snacks. It was awesome, thoroughly enjoyed it, service was excellent, staff friendly. Will be returning here.

After a great experience last Sunday we went back this Sunday and we’re not disappointed. After my husband was feeling dizzy from the heat, Chris, one of the new owners, was very kind. We had booked a quiet table and he escorted us to a delightful table in the snug, bringing iced water etc. The starters of crab and gazpacho were just right and we followed these with roast lamb washed down with pints of ice cold Estrella. All was delicious…. But the gravy…. Was in a league of it’s own! Proper gravy made with the meat juices just like Grandma used to make! This week my husband plumped for the fish and chips and I started with fish goujons otherwise we repeated last Sunday’s choices. Sadly, we are not local otherwise we would be eating here regularly. We wish Chris, Pinder and co every success in their new venture!

Pleasantly surprised by the relaxing surroundings with friendly polite staff. A good selection of beers, including 0%. The menu had a selection of light bites and main meals. All of our choices were cooked to perfection. We had to call the chef out to complement him. Harvey was very humble and pleased at our praise. I would highly recommend this establishment.
