Walked into the garden area with 2 children and walked out again. It seems the area is predominantly for dogs, which we are not keen on. The only other area to sit was next to the road, which I preferred not to sit with my children or even if i didn't have children with me.

Quite a small menu, but there are some good choices. It’s nice to sit outside, very relaxing, especially if the weather is nice. I had the breakfast wrap, it was a lot bigger than i expected, quite a belly buster.

Fantastic cafe. Like a fully catered picnic. To sit outside, under the colourful umbrellas protecting you from sun or drizzle, with tasty, simple, warm food - the best of both worlds. Fun and informal, something other cafes with leather sofas and chummy signage totally lack.

The coolest cafe in Ashbourne - great food, staff and an interesting photographic history of the the Ashbourne Royal Shrovetide Football matches. Customer toilet. Two tables inside with more under cover seating outside if you prefer. The food is prepared/cooked when you order so it’s lovely and fresh. The bill comes folded up with just the total showing....its not till or of you open it up you see the service charge has been added. I'd tip for good service but this was average at best and a deceitful way of making more money. We wont be back. Worth walking further down the road to Birds gingerbread bakery.

Oh dear ! looks nice from the ouside, very different inside, needs a good update, 3 of us went this morning - ordered a breakfast muffin, and 2 bacon cobs, they arrived quick - did not hear any cooking but did hear the ping of a microwave and feared the worst, took the lid of the muffin to find a very crunchy hash brown, blackened sausage and rock hard bacon, egg was ok, was not good at all, only 2 tables inside, we were by the door which was propped open so had all the traffic noise and was a cold morning. will not be going back. We went as it has has some good reviews....so either a bad day or gone rapidly downhill. it was not cooked fresh that is for sure.

A great little café on the outskirts of the main town that has a few indoor tables but plenty more outside; and, lots of dog beds, water and dog treats bowls. Inside you can take a step back in time with a photographic anthology of Ashbourne through the years. And, enjoy the nostalgic cutlery and crockery, if you’re of a certain age … 😉 The food is good, quickly prepared, and generous for the price, which is delivered by very friendly and attentive staff; if you’re looking for a quick fuel-up before a day on the Tissington Trail or browsing the Town Centre, then this place will see you right. An out-of-the-way gem that is worth going the extra yards to sample - recommended for locals and visitors alike.

First time visit as i was passing through Ashbourne. Nice little cafe on the main thoroughfare through Ashbourne. No parking outside on the road so i parked the bike up on the pavement and out the way. Nice friendly table service. On a glorious sunny Sunday in the UK no better place to sot and watch all the classic cars drive by whilst listening to the church bells ringing. My toasted tea cake could have had more time under the grill ( me own fault for not saying ) and i felt the coffee had a bitter after taste like the coffee was burnt. Id stop again for sure but stick with a cup of tea instead. Plenty of seating outside on nicely decorated tables and there are bowls Of biscuits and water and a pillow for any furry friends.' Inside is bit cramped and the bathroom was nice and clean.

Dropped in for lunch whilst on a day trip out to Matlock. Very busy, small bar with two very pleasant female bar staff. We sat in a room to the left of the bar, comfortable , clean although basic. We didn’t need posh with tablecloths as we just needed food and a drink. Three of us sat down with our drinks, my friends Shiraz wine was very good.😊 So my daughter and I had sandwiches with chips. Fresh bread tasty fillings. My friend is vegan, she had a jacket potato with baked beans and there was certainly no skimping on the beans. Rose Cottage v the Family tree (Whatstandwell) . Rose Cottage we will be back. Family Tree we will not.

Beware, the menu is very misleading. It shows 25% discount on food and drinks Mon-Fri between 4pm-5pm . However having visited today at 4pm and ordered food and drinks I was informed the offer is not available during Dec. This information is not dislayed anywhere in the pub and I was rudely advised it is shown on the website. I would suggest this is tantamount to false advertising. Disappointing experience.

I came with my parents for lunch, we weren't after anything fancy and we are local so thought we would try here. I asked for 3 ham toasties and was told they were short staffed and weren't doing hot food. I had just seen a sandwich and bowl of chips come out so I changed my order to three ham sandwiches, (nice and easy). I could see a box of "made up cobs" in clingfilm, which the staff member ferreted through and handed over the counter to me. When I said I really wanted a sandwich, she said " so you want me to make a sandwich up for you", she then said she could make me a NUTELLA sandwich!. Basil Fawlty did spring to mind at this point and we soon left and went to forest nurseries cafe down the road which was a much better experience. I did later explain to my dad that nutella was very different to ham! On a positive note the cafe is in a good location.

Four adults and a five year old visited for Sunday lunch. We couldn’t have been more welcomed, accommodated and well-fed! The service was exceptional, so very friendly and they couldn’t do enough. The food was great value (2 roasts to choose from plus 3 different pies with all the usual roast trimmings) - and most importantly, was absolutely delicious. We had to wait a little while for the food to come - but that was no issue for us. The food was fresh and hot when it arrived. It’s a small, traditional pub - and as well as lovely food, it has a great choice of ales too. Next time we’re in the area, we’ll be back. Definitely worth a visit! And on a sunny day it has a wonderful view too from the front beer garden area. What’s not to love!
