Dropped in for lunch whilst on a day trip out to Matlock. Very busy, small bar with two very pleasant female bar staff. We sat in a room to the left of the bar, comfortable , clean although basic. We didn’t need posh with tablecloths as we just needed food and a drink. Three of us sat down with our drinks, my friends Shiraz wine was very good.😊 So my daughter and I had sandwiches with chips. Fresh bread tasty fillings. My friend is vegan, she had a jacket potato with baked beans and there was certainly no skimping on the beans. Rose Cottage v the Family tree (Whatstandwell) . Rose Cottage we will be back. Family Tree we will not.

Visited here with my wife whilst having tattoos done. Welcoming place. We stayed for food, and we both ordered a steak pie. We had been waiting a while, when the licensee came over and said there had been a delay with our order, due to herself not sending the order up to the kitchen. She were soooo apologetic and asked us if she could give us both a drink on the house to compensate for our short wait. When the food came out, it were absolutely gorgeous! Never in my life (56 years old), have I had a pie so full of meat. The veg were fresh, and the entire meal were divine. We both couldn't finish it, and I'm a hearty eater. I would recommend this place to anyone. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, and if you're feeling hungry give this pie a go.... It even puts Mad O'Rourkes to shame.

If the vast number of chip shops don’t take your fancy Rose Cottage is a nice traditional pub to stop for a meal. Spread over a few rooms the walls create small cozy spaces with a few tables in each. We tried ham & eggs. Bit of a throwback to the 1970s but not common on menus these days. Everything was excellent with perfectly fried chips, fresh tasty peas and lovely tasty ham. Would stop here again when passing. Service efficient and friendly. Recommended

Popped in here yesterday evening due to not fancying fish and chips. The bar lady was super friendly and welcoming. Food was reasonably priced, lovely quality. Service was efficient. Only downside was chips are frozen chips - pet peeve of mine, whatever happened to good old, home cooked chips?! But other than that it was lovely, cosy and welcoming.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Friendly staff and landlord, and a welcoming atmosphere. Seating outside and cosy seating inside. We ate here two nights in a row and were not disappointed either time. They have a simple menu. Which is what we prefer. Between us we had 4 different dishes over the two nights, the portion sizes were generous and the food was freshly prepared and very tasty. We would definitely come back again. Thank you.

Walked up the stairs and banged my head on the low ceiling. No warning sign!!!! Went to tell the bar staff what had happened and if they can put a sign up. Their response was "Well its not my pub" and "to stop complaining". Didn't ask if I was OK or wanted to put it in the accident book. When I highlighted this, they then went onto to say "either use the facilities or leave" Even when writing this, my neck is in pain. Absolutely disgusted and upset. Will be informing the local council.

I just had Lamb and mint pie. I can honestly say hand on heart I have never eaten any pie remotely as good as this. It was full of Lamb with the perfect mint flavour. It was more food than even I could eat, and I am a big bloke who loves my grub. The pastry was moist but cooked to perfection. My partner had Steak and Guinness pie. Hers was also beyond amazing. These pies are home made and you can truly tell. I doubt they have ever been near a freezer, and rightly so. I cannot rave about this enough. The new landlord is a truly jovial Liverpudlian who immediately makes you feel at ease. The bar staff are attentive and polite, Jo in particular, they help you feel local even if you are not. Granted this is not a chain 2 for a tenner pub, but despite paying a little more, it is more than excellent value for money. The beer is well kept and there is a good choice of real ale, tap beers and lagers, along with a choice of wines, spirits and yes a good tap Guinness. I live over 10 miles away but suspect I shall be a local from now on.

This pub is very well situated in the lovely little town of Matlock Bath. The staff are friendly, too. Great place to pop in for a beer if you’re in the area. However, I may have had the worst veggie burger of my life here. The buns were flat, soggy and falling appart, and the whole thing was utterly drenched in grease. Just a greasy, gloopy mess with no flavour whatsoever. Couldn’t stomach more than 2 bites, despite paying £13 for it. It was that disgusting. But my mum seemed to enjoy her jacket potato very much, though, so maybe it’s just their burgers that one should steer clear of.

On the same street there are lots of cafés with ice cream or sandwiches for food. Rose Cottage offers a good alternative for hungry bellies. It's a sweet pub with pub food. What's striking immediately inside is the tables, how they are constructed. The legs from the old sewing machines are used as table legs. Why not! A good way to remind people that they existed once upon a time.

Beware, the menu is very misleading. It shows 25% discount on food and drinks Mon-Fri between 4pm-5pm . However having visited today at 4pm and ordered food and drinks I was informed the offer is not available during Dec. This information is not dislayed anywhere in the pub and I was rudely advised it is shown on the website. I would suggest this is tantamount to false advertising. Disappointing experience.

I came with my parents for lunch, we weren't after anything fancy and we are local so thought we would try here. I asked for 3 ham toasties and was told they were short staffed and weren't doing hot food. I had just seen a sandwich and bowl of chips come out so I changed my order to three ham sandwiches, (nice and easy). I could see a box of "made up cobs" in clingfilm, which the staff member ferreted through and handed over the counter to me. When I said I really wanted a sandwich, she said " so you want me to make a sandwich up for you", she then said she could make me a NUTELLA sandwich!. Basil Fawlty did spring to mind at this point and we soon left and went to forest nurseries cafe down the road which was a much better experience. I did later explain to my dad that nutella was very different to ham! On a positive note the cafe is in a good location.

Four adults and a five year old visited for Sunday lunch. We couldn’t have been more welcomed, accommodated and well-fed! The service was exceptional, so very friendly and they couldn’t do enough. The food was great value (2 roasts to choose from plus 3 different pies with all the usual roast trimmings) - and most importantly, was absolutely delicious. We had to wait a little while for the food to come - but that was no issue for us. The food was fresh and hot when it arrived. It’s a small, traditional pub - and as well as lovely food, it has a great choice of ales too. Next time we’re in the area, we’ll be back. Definitely worth a visit! And on a sunny day it has a wonderful view too from the front beer garden area. What’s not to love!
