Friendly, family-run place. Pleasing food. Felt a teeny bit dated - not sure about the radio blaring Radio 2, and a slight pivot towards coffee etc and the addition of a couple of sofas might generate enough local custom to stay open Tues-Thurs. But a good place and good food.

New to this cafe , so stood inside door to look at and digest several different menus. Went to order from a take out menu, intending to eat it in our car, fully understanding what Take Out meant. The woman didn’t say Hi Hello or anything but “!If you order from that menu you can’t sit on our chairs outside” We did intend to sit on HER chairs.. what a rude and unhelpful woman. Wouldn’t recommend this place for friendly service, can’t comment on the food as we didn’t get the chance, and won’t going forward.

We’ve been before for lunch in the summer and enjoyed it, so came here for breakfast when we were passing through again. The breakfast sandwich was a bit disappointing, quite large but eggs were over cooked and not at all runny, and I was disappointed with receiving a single sachet of brown sauce. The coffee wasn’t great and £19 for two sandwiches and two coffees is on the very steep side for me!

Decor was interesting in a good way, staff were pleasant but there was a lack of choice for breakfast, very much pastry/cake unless u wanted cooked breakfast. We had a scone and a sausage sandwich. My wifes sausage was well cooked and the bread was nice and fresh with a sachet of sauce, which some won’t like but as she likes to put her on sauce on this worked for her. My scone was soft really tasty but so soft that when you picked it up to eat it fell apart. Perhaps made worse by the butter being too firm for such a soft scone. But it was very tasty. Coffee was interesting. So it was good as in they do a dark roast and it’s certainly got a roasty flavour. The coffee was better than other coffees I have had but it was not that interesting a coffee. If the coffee was more interesting or the scone eatable without falling apart or if I would have had a sausage sandwich this would easily be a 4/5 place as the staff were really pleasant.

Visited here with my parents after a visit to Sudbury Hall. Originally, we just wanted a cup of tea, but decided to have the scone as well. SUPERB is all I can say, more tea in the pot than I could drink, (easily four cups), and the scone was THE BEST I'v ever had! Staff were friendly enough. It was a little expensive, but only a little, so happiness all round. I will definitely go again.

Originally stopped for a coffee (good) and cake (average) in this nice looking cafe / deli. Popped back later in the day to pick up a few bits from the deli counter, unfortunately when we got home I noticed that 2 out of the 3 cheeses purchased were out of date, did send a courtesy email advising they may want to check the cheese but never got a response which would prevent me going back more so than the original issue.

Visited here for a late lunch on a sunny Sunday afternoon. We were told that there was a 15-20 minute wait for food but this turned into 35 minutes which seemed excessive for a Ploughman’s and a tuna sandwich, as nothing needed to be cooked. The owner was very polite and did apologise for the wait and, when it arrived, the food was absolutely delicious and plentiful. The artisan pork pie was excellent. Not sure why the food inside the cafe was being served on disposable plates, etc but with metal cutlery and with proper cups and saucers for drinks but a minor point. Recommended.

Last Saturday, late morning, four of us - friends who hadn't met up for a while - sat on the Bramhall's terrace, drank coffee and looked out over the Market place on Market day. The latte dissipated the chill. The chat was warm. We must have spent an hour sitting there catching up. Before we left, I picked up a pork pie to take back with me. We walked and talked about town, had lunch at the George and Dragon and many memories later, bade fond fare well to friends and Ashbourne before heading west. I can't speak highly enough of the pork pie I bought at Bramhall's: flavouring, seasoning, filling, crust; all achieved to perfection. Family loved it. I have since emailed the deli to say so and found out that I had bought their Champion pork pie but that a Huntsman variation - chicken, pork and stuffing - is also provided. No marks for guessing where we will be heading for when we go east again.

We popped in for a lunch date, my other half chose a bacon and Brie and cranberry sandwich and I had a baked Camembert. I was trying to avoid eating wheat, no baked potato or other non bread based light lunch seemed to be on offer. The food arrived after a small wait but the filling in the sandwich was almost nonexistent. 2 rashers of bacon, a tiny amount of buried and then drowning in Cranberry sauce. Did not expect a triple sandwich either, the bread seems to hide any filling. My Camembert was ok, but at £8.95 seems expensive for the little preparation involved And small amount of accompaniment. I have eaten here on a number of occasions and have enjoyed previous visits, this time we won’t be returning.

My friend & I came came to the cafe Saturday around midday, for coffee & a cake. The waitress told us the tables were reserved for 'diners' only, but on this occasion we could have just coffee & cake. She was rude & made us feel very uncomfortable. There were several empty tables, so not at all busy & still cost just under £10. I had never been to a cafe that does not allow coffee & a cake. We are regular visitors to Ashbourne, but this experience ruined our day. We will not be visiting the cafe again, & will stick to the Flower cafe in future who are friendly & accommodating.

My partner and I popped in on Saturday for a cup of tea and coffee. It was pouring with rain and we were shown to a table as soon as we walked in.

We popped in for lunch as we had been told that it was under new ownership and had heard good things.

After stopping in a near by hotel for the night we popped across the road for a quick breakfast. Pleasant service, nice food that was quickly served and reasonable in price. Nice way to start the day.

A friend and I visited on Monday for a tea and coffee, both of which were good, then paid and left. We had walked quite a way when one of the waitresses came running up behind us holding a package which we had left behind. We were really impressed by this, she had gone out of her way to make sure that we got it back. Well done!

Extremely rude staff, told us very abruptly that they were closing for the day at 4pm when we walked up to it, at 5pm they were still open. I think she just didn't like the look of us.

We have been here before and I'm pleased to say it hasn't changed. We only make the occasional visit to this delightful little Cafe when we are on holiday in this area, but it has never disappointed. The staff are friendly and attentive, the food is all freshly prepared and it's clean & tidy. Prices are very good too for fresh home cooking. What more could you ask. Highly recommended 5*

I visited these tearooms with my daughters on Friday 24th May. I have been to other tea shops in Bakewell, but Toscas is by far the best. We had afternoon tea for three of us, we sat outside in the court yard. The afternoon tea arrived and there was lots of lovely cake and sandwiches, beautifully presented, and our host friendly and gave us a warm welcome. We really enjoyed our afternoon tea, very civilised, we will defiantly be visiting again. In fact we will have a day out to bakewell just to visit Toscas .

Fantastic cafe, the icing on the cake (no pun intended) being the birds feeding next to the window. The staff are friendly and efficient and the the food is of a good standard and reasonably priced. I can't understand the few negative reviews, maybe some folk have unfeasibly high standards/expectations?

I was really hoping for the wholesome, home cooked food that the price tag promised. The bean casserole tasted like a tin of baked beans with a whole load of dried sage stirred in. The salad could have been bought in a bag at Asda. I won't be going back.
