The best restaurants serving Italian food in York Yorkshire and The Humber

Gyros was nice but the place is not child friendly or adaptive. Asked for a child’s tuna sandwich which arrived, two plain slices of bread with dry tuna placed in the middle. No sauce or butter. Was shocked on paying to be charged £9 for this, and when questioned was told we COULD have had the full tuna sandwich on home made bread and side dish so that’s why it was still full price. Very over priced and not child friendly menu.

Had arancini which were tepid so took them back to be reheated, one was still lukewarm, would have been better freshly made -

Popped in for a quick lunch. Excellent pizzas, fresh ingredients, light & crispy base. Fast service. Would recommend for pizzas.

Excellent coffee. Good strong Americana served in a sensible sized cup and not drowned in a mug. I was in early so the cafe was quiet and the barista was wrestling with the coffee machine. Good to know that they know how to fix their own machines.

After a fun day exploring the wonderful city of York on a damp May day, it was great to be greeted by the genuine warmth and smile of the lovely man at this quaint, bustling and authentic pizzeria. The ambience of the restaurant was cosy and relaxed. The menu offered plenty of choice. We all thoroughly enjoyed what we had. I especially enjoyed the Italian brewed blonde ale from Birra Flea. Too many so-called authentic ales are brewed and bottled in the UK these days so it's especially welcome to see this extra level of authenticity. I finished off with the Rum Baba - plenty of rum and very tasty! All of the staff were genuinely attentive and a joy. We will definitely stop by on our next visit to York. Thanks to all the staff for a great dining experience.

Beautiful traditional sardinian food. Varied menu with many sardinian favourites that you will not find anywhere else in york. Great friendly service in a relaxed environment

I really only wanted a coffee when I visited at the weekend but I’ll definitely have to go back to try some of the yummy things on the menu. This is quite a small cafe but they make really good use of the space; it feels very welcoming. I’m assuming this is a small family business; staff spoke Italian to each other and worked well together.

Paramos en Roberto’s para tomar una taza de té y nos dieron deliciosos conos de helado junto con nuestras bebidas. Eran tan sabrosos que hicimos una visita de regreso más tarde en el día para helados de tamaño completo. Los cuatro estuvimos de acuerdo en que eran los mejores helados que habíamos probado (¡y tenemos una experiencia considerable de cata de helados entre nosotros!). Visita, compra helados aquí; definitivamente no te decepcionará!

We love Al Volo, for its unusual location, wonderful views, delicious food and friendly staff. We often visit for drinks & food whilst walking or bring friends or family for lunch. The food never disappoints and they also, as a coeliac, I am well catered for.

Visited this restaurant for dinner during our recent short-stay in York. We went past it during the daytime and liked the look of the menu so returned that evening and were able to get a table as a walk-in booking, although the restaurant was extremely busy. We had a table in a room at the rear of the restaurant and found the ambience excellent. We weren't sure of portion sizes so chose not to order starters, and this was a good decision as the main courses were more than adequate. The food was very very tasty, full of flavour and piping hot. We saved room for dessert and were so glad that we did. The limencello panna cotta was the best dessert I have ever had anywhere!!! Perfect!!! This is a fantastic restaurant with great food and great service, and very reasonably priced. We were served by Julia, Ricardos, and Sara - all of which were lovely, friendly and helpful. We will definitely be returning to this restaurant on our next visit to York.

We went to collect our order from Roccos the place is very clean and tidy the food is cooked fresh I had Quattro Stagioni pizza which is very tasty my husband enjoyed his Pollo Al Peppe will definitely recommend and we will order again.

Quite frankly the best Italian food I've ever eaten, the staff were lovely and the food was heavenly, I would happily drive the 2 hours to York just for their food. Update - 4 Years on, the place is still amazing, the staff are incredibly friendly, they made a big fuss of my my 1yo daughter. And of course the food is still as great as it always was. Hopefully it doesn't take me another 4 years to return.

Lovely meal at this establishment whilst on holiday in York. We were looked after well by Elle. Great food and service. Had the 2 course set menu. Excellent value for money. Large portions. Didn’t disappoint!

Nos alojamos en el hotel de enfrente y después de haber pasado por la panadería decidimos recoger pasteles una mañana durante nuestra estancia. Los pasteles, teníamos los bollos de canela y el pain au chocolat, estaban deliciosos y mi única decepción es que no pude comprar más ya que todo el pan se veía delicioso! Fuimos temprano (8 . 30 am) y cuando pasamos una hora después parecía v ocupado.
