Delrio's Restaurant in York

The pizza was delicious and there was a great intimate vibe in the restaurant! The waitresses were both lovely and I would urge you to try the goats cheese pizza! It's the perfect place for date night

We went to Delrios by chance in a birthday stay in York for my partner. Really enjoyed it and wouldn’t hesitate to go again on another York visit. Excellent food and service. Very busy (which is always a good sign) so I’d recommend booking. What you imagine an Italian restaurant to be like.

Visited with my husband while staying in York and had a fabulous meal - beef stroganoff, fillet medallions, sautéed spinach, a bottle of Prosecco, tiramisu and crème brûlée. Everything was beautifully cooked and the beef was tender. The service was great, staff were so friendly and welcoming, the ambience is lovely and we had a fabulous evening. We will return! Highly recommended!

A fabulous Italian restaurant, walking distance from York city centre. Situated in what appears to be an olde cellar, a relaxed dining setting, well lit, comfortable with friendly attentive staff and superbly, delicious Italian food and wine. What’s not to like.

Really lovely restaurant serving authentic Italian food. I had the ravioli and my husband had seafood tagliatelle both of which were delicious. Excellent service too!

Wow. Just wow. My wife and I have lived in York for nearly 30 years so how this has been our first trip to Delrio’s I’ll never know 🤯 But what an outstanding place this is. Fantastic food, excellent service and the pacing of each course was perfect - this place is always busy yet we were made to feel like we had all the time in the world. It’s one of the first times in ages I’ve genuinely said the service was outstanding; most places it’s just ‘ok’ but I can’t say enough good things about it. 100% chance of returning in the near future 🥰

Gorgeous. Went few days before Xmas with family and as always a bit sceptical as sometimes the reviews often can be mis leading. Not in this case. Amazing. All food ordered from starter to dessert was second to none. Arguably the best Italian restaurant we have ever been in. No criticism at all. Not a thing. The staff were very attentive and fully aware of everybody eating pace and desires. Nothing too much trouble. Lovely atmosphere and just a great evening and experience all round. Early booking advised and we will definitely come back when we visit York again.

This restaurant is a top class well oiled machine, we went last night on my husbands birthday weekend and we were blown away. Every part of the experience was outstanding, the ambiance, food and service were second to none. Special shoutout to Gulia who looked after us and made our experience even better - Thank you. We really enjoyed our visit to Delrio's. The food was excellent - bruschetta is hard to do well and the they did; humble lasagne done just right. The atmosphere was buzzing and the service was friendly and attentive.

Came here for my birthday meal as the reviews are incredible! I had the scallops to start, which were amazing, perfectly cooked. My partner had the carpaccio which was nice but cured, almost as if it had been pre-prepared from a packet and put on a plate, not fresh. The bruscetta was also incredible. For main, we both had the truffle tagliatelle which is our favourite, so we have had that dish from many high-end italian restaurants. This was really disappointing and probably the worst truffle pasta we have both ever had. Firstly, it was flavoured with truffle mince from a jar and truffle oil, no actual fresh shaved truffle, which I would expect from an authentic Italian restaurant charging £18.5 for the dish. The wild mushrooms were also half overcooked and mushy (previously frozen) and half of them were chewy and hard which were clearly dried and not soaked for long enough. The pasta was also overcooked, not al denté in the slightest, and did not taste fresh. Overall a very disappointing dish, where none of the ingredients were fresh. It was edible when you weren't chewing on bits of hard mushroom but the richness and delicacy of truffle was lost in translation. The atmosphere was quite authentic, albeit noisy (but it was very busy), the price was reasonable and the service was good considering how busy they were, but if you're looking for authentic, fresh italian cuisine, with a love of truffle, I would not recommend this restaurant.

Amazing food, great Italian vibes. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable, knew great Italian. Myself and my partner shared starters, deserts and had a main each with drinks and was £30 each, great price for great quality

It feels so authentic and the food is absolutely amazing. I come every year, it's always rammed, they do cocktails too. Not a huge menu but it seems like whatever they do, they do perfectly.

Amazing, an absolute must visit

We booked well in advance as we knew it had a great reputation and we were not disappointed, service was fantastic, setting and decor was beautiful and the food was just incredible. We throughly enjoyed our visit and will most certainly be returning next time we are in York

Lots of vegan options (just ask and they explain all the dishes that can be veganised). Soup, bruschetta, garlic mushrooms can all be veganised / already vegan. And vegan cheese available on pizza. Plenty of pasta/risotto dishes can be veganised. Also they gave two vegan dessert options. Really friendly Italian waitress.

Delrio's was recommended by a friend so we decided to pay it a visit. Lovely environment in a beautiful building. Suitable for a friendly family meal. Quite expensive but most places are in York. Nothing out of the ordinary, nice food but nothing wow. Wasn't super flavourful or memorable and we tend to like restaurants with innovative food or at the very least stand out dishes. You don't tend to get this with Italian restaurants such as Delrio's due to their clientele and their overall appeal. However, I do think that even such restaurants can do it well and will have me return if they manage to exceed my expectations. But unfortunately, Delrio's fell sort of flat. This is just somewhere you could meet with friends or visit with your family. Service was good but I find places like this where staff are overly attentive to be slightly uncomfortable, I can pour my own water etc. but some people do like being pampered. We probably won't return as it was just average overall. The Tiramisu also was just okay... and as this is my favourite dessert it was slightly disappointing. The building where the restaurant is set is probably the only memorable factor. This being one of the highest regarded restaurants in York is slightly questionable, I prefer another Italian restaurant in York personally.

This place is my absolute favorite! I’m obsessed with their Risotto ai Frutti di Mare and Cozze alla Marinara—the fresh Scottish mussels are truly amazing. Their Costata di Manzo was also really good, and their Tiramisu is hands-down the best I’ve had in York. I’ve never tried a more authentic one! On top of the incredible food, the staff are always super nice and welcoming every time I visit. Highly recommend!

There's been a mix up with our reservation and we had to wait a bit, but, other than that, great food and staff!

Delrios is verywell rated, but also one of the more difficult reservations to get in York. You need to plan ahead unless you want to eat at 5pm or 9pm. So with such popularity, I was very interested to finally visit. Firstly, the venue. It's in a cellar, but is nicely and atmospherically done out. Service we found a bit off. The staff seemed annoyed with everything we did! Not exactly welcoming. Prices are decent. Menu is basically a very classic Italian menu. You don't come here for innovation and inventiveness. Food - this is the real test, and sadly its just very average and forgettable in my opinion.

Authentic Italian restaurant with great food, lovely staff and amazing atmosphere! We had the garlic and rosemary pizza and contadino for starters, then risotto, tagliatelle and lasagne for main - the risotto was a standout!

Having worked in the restaurant industry for years and many of those at an Italian restaurant- Delrio’s is extraordinary! You go down the stairs into the restaurant and you’re welcomed into nonna’s house. The staff were all so lovely as we waited for the table to be cleared. It was actually surprising how many people could fit in this quaint place. The starters of bruschetta were phenomenal. Everyone at our table loved the mains. I was in awe by the way ALL of the staff worked in symphony with each other. Front and back of house. By far one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve ever been to in my life. Thank you so much Delrio’s for a lovely evening. We’ll try to leave room for dessert next time.

This was our first visit - 6 of us. I erroneously booked the wrong night and phoned within two hours of our intended visit. The receptionist/meeter and greeter was brilliant and understanding and rearranged tables to accommodate us (disappointed I can't remember her name especially as she could remember mine when we left!). The atmosphere, food and service were all excellent. My only very minor gripe was that it was quite noisy - a factor when you're an old git like me. But we will definitely be back!

A gem that I wish I'd discovered years ago. Booked based on reviews and proximity to my hotel, and was not disappointed. Beef carpaccio starter delicious, carbonara main indulgent, white chocolate cheesecake special for dessert light, heavenly and to die for. Service attentive but not overbearing, and faultlessly polite. Offers to hold the next course to give us time to digest and simply not rush through the meal too fast were particularly appreciated. Given the quality of the food offered I'd describe the prices as very reasonable, bordering on cheap. We enjoyed it so much we attempted to reserve a table for the following evening, given we'd not made other arrangements, but they were already completely booked out, and no wonder. Provided you can cope with the flights of stairs - the establishment is in the cellar of the building - then Delrio's comes highly recommended.

Food exceptional atmosphere great a little piece of sardinia in york

We found Delrios some years ago and we were absolutely amazed how good it was. Many years on and we have many friends who visit York and we recommended Delrios and they to make their way to our favourite restaurant. Never had anything but excellent food and service, keep it up.

Easily our favourite place in York for food. Have spent our 5th and 10th Wedding Anniversarys in here. The staff are so accommodating and the food is incredible. Atmosphere is lovely. Thanks again for fitting us in.

I’ve eaten at hundreds of Italian restaurants and this is easily one of the best. Incredible service, delicious foods, good portions, a homely and hearty atmosphere, and central location. I would absolutely come back here and encourage anyone else to do the same on a visit to York

Came with my boyfriend for his birthday dinner and the food was divine, the service was flawless and the atmosphere was beautiful. I would highly recommend to anyone taking a trip York to visit. Also special credits to the lovely and friendly Rachele and the waitress with black hair that seated us and took our order (sorry I didn’t get her name) and the chefs for our amazing food xx

The food here was excellent. We had a 3 course meal for 4 people and I cannot fault a single thing we had. Everybody loved it, and the staff were brilliant, very attentive but not overbearing and they even brought my daughter her pudding with a candle and sang happy birthday to her. She was delighted. I'd highly recommend this restaurant for a true taste of Italy.

Would have taken pictures of the food….but the second it hit the table it was gone - it’s really that good! From the moment my colleagues and I entered the restaurant, the team there were fantastic and continued till the moment we left! They really couldn’t do enough - service was exceptional. The food is out of this world and can tell it is made and served with love…..and reasonably priced considering the quality. Will definitely be visiting again!

I recently had the chance to eat at Delrio's, and it was such a great experience! The food was incredible – hands down the best pasta I’ve ever had. Delrio's also stands out in the warm atmosphere and the fantastic service. Even though there was a mix-up with our booking, the staff were super kind and managed to get us a table at the last minute. The servers were so friendly and made us feel really welcome. If you're looking for delicious food and great service in a cozy setting, I’d definitely recommend Delrio's.

A fabulous place to eat! Susan was more than accommodating at getting us a table for 6 people at very short notice. Everyone there was welcoming and very pleasant. A lovely setting and the food was amazing!! The menu has plenty to choose from. Highly recommend that you visit here when in York!

It is a strange place, down a flight of very narrow stairs, toilets at ground level, restaurant in the cellar. We booked a table early and were there on time, my very pregnant daughter needed the bathroom, so my wife queued on the stairs and I went with my daughter. By the time I got to the stairs, my wife had already been seated; my daughter was just behind me. I got to the end of the stairs and tried to explain that my wife was seated at a table, however the rude receptionist told me to remain in the queue. I waited and my daughter arrived to be greeted by another waitress to bring her straight to our table, however the receptionist still wanted us to remain in the queue!! My daughter headed towards the table with the waitress and I followed, to a chorus of abuse from the receptionist. We went to our table and the receptionist then came in and started screaming at the waitress in Italian – telling her that her actions were not good and unacceptable, leaving her in tears. My wife, who had missed the whole performance, then told me that the receptionist had shouted abuse at a waiter who was stuck in front of her on the stairs, for being late! Any business that allows such an ignorant person to be front of house, no matter the quality of the food, do not deserve to be in business for long.

What can I say about this restaurant just absolutely fabulous . From the moment of arriving to the moment we left we were given absolutely fantastic service. The staff all so friendly and efficient. I find it absolutely appalling that the portions are so large - I didn't have enough space to try more dishes. I gave a few 5 stars last week and the truth Is none of them were as well rounded as Delrio. There should be a separate category for places like this were the portions are enormous, fantastic ingredients, and extraordinarily craftily made, the service is warm and efficient, the speed is unparalleled, and the decor is rustic but not tacky. I absolutely loved it, thank you so much. The cheese cake was the best I might have ever had, the Whitby crab also outstanding.

An absolute must visit if you are in York and want a romantic meal with amazing food! Me and my boyfriend find any excuse to go its that good! Also extremely accommodating for coeliacs and a gluten free diet, almost everything can be made gluten free on the menu (except pizza and pasta), the staff are very well informed on this too! The risotto is gorgeous! Staff are lovely and the atmosphere is wonderfully romantic and cosy! Boyfriend also says the cheese and pear pasta is the best meal he has ever had!!

This was our first time visiting and we were looked after from the moment we came in. The servers were really friendly and knowledgeable! Such a great TripAdvisor find. Would come back again over and over. Very accommodating for our needs and made Dads 60th special with singing and a candle in his delicious tiramisu. Great menu, lots of choice and all reasonably priced. Quirky but traditional setting and liked we could watch the chefs working whilst waiting for the food. All served at a perfect pace and every dish eaten had high praise. Thanks again for being so wonderful with us, see you next time we’re in York!
