Everything was spot on, service, food, drinks. Would highly recommend and we will be back.

Always exceptional quality italian food, I love the new venue with its smart interior design.

Spur of the moment, not far from where I live, decided to go to Marzano, we ordered the seafood ravioli, and the terrine frutti di mare, which consists of clams, mussels, king prawns, potatoes, in an absolutely gorgeous.......Best tomato sauce I've ever tasted, with a garlic flat bread, with a side of olive oil/balsamic vinegar dip. Great and friendly service, lovely Staff, no rush, not expensive at all, been to Marzano a few times now, it does get busy, for obvious reasons..... update, was at Mazano today 22/02/2025 for my daughter's 25th birthday, couldn't be happier with the food, location and service, they were so busy as well, but looked after us. The starters, sides, mains and deserts were gorgeous, i has 2 glasses of the house red, absolute nectar, and with the steak, perfect.

We loved the new place! The food and service were fantastic. A special thank you to Grace for looking after us - we'll be back.

Excellent food but a little pricey

We found Marzano grill by chance while roaming York and loved the decor and happy diners we saw so had a look at the menu and booked a table, the food was amazing, best Italian we’ve tasted, and the service was fantastic, relaxed but attentive, we had a table by the window, Ideal for watching the world go by, can’t recommend this restaurant enough.

One of the best Italian restaurants I have been to outside of Italy. I was transported straight to a sunny square in Rome after a bite of this delicious pizza. All of the ingredients were so fresh and the presentation was outstanding. Great place for the kids as well. Our lovely waitress Meghan was attentive and recommended some excellent options from the menu. Her prononciation of the dishes really made me feel like I was in Italy!! Even though I was in rainy York. Great experience. 🍕

What a hidden gem! Booked here last minute to celebrate my birthday and they did not disappoint. It was incredibly busy but the staff were so attentive and the service was fantastic, they made our experience so special and even sang happy birthday to me. The food was delicious, generous portions and full of flavour. Can’t wait until we can go back. Thank you for making our evening so wonderful.

Been therr twice now and enjoyed it both times.

Food basically good, yet services is not that good. We were trying to order dessert, there’s a black waiter telling us “just to let you know you have to leave within 20 mins”, even after we ordered desert he still add up a sentence with “20 mins is that alright?” I mean, if there is any reservation issue he should be dealing with that, instead of pushing customer to leave, makes this problem become customer’s issue. This kinda attitude ruined the great mood food brings to me.

Beautiful new premises. The food was excellent as always, service spot on. Visited Saturday early evening, after a day shopping, the place was buzzing a lovely happy atmosphere. I had a vegetable risotto, it was so tasty absolutely delicious. The young waitress attending our table was a delight. We'll done Marzano you have transferred everything I loved about your old restaurant to your new. A very special place.

One of the biggest cons going in York. So much so that I suspect a lot of the reviews for this place are fake. Poor, even for “Italian” food. Would recommend going to Pizza Express for food that tastes more homemade and more authentic…..

Excellent restaurant very kind and friendly staff

Visited twice, the first time in December and then again in Jan. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, we enjoyed sitting in the window the first time and imagine it will be lovely in summer. Both experiences were excellent in terms of food and drinks. The service was a little inattentive at times, but it was very busy and it was not so much as to spoil our meal. Overall, a nice spot for an Italian meal in York.

Lovely food and very helpful staff. My son has autism and will not eat anything in a sauce so asked if they could do plain pasta with a little mozzarella cheese on top when it came it was more like pasta in a cheese the owner knew it wasn't how I explained it needed to be and offered to change it straight away

Fabulous food and amazing service in a gorgeous setting.

Had my eye on this smart-looking Italian restaurant on Fossgate for several years now, but it was always packed and I am easily intimidated by crowds… 😃 Decided to try again this week and was very pleasantly surprised to find that it had moved down the road and now sits in the much larger premises previously occupied by Loch Fyne – this was most welcome, a lovely building and they had a space for dinner. Excellent. The restaurant itself is a listed building, sitting adjacent to the bridge over the river Foss – tall and stately. Stray Loch Fyne signs aside, the building itself was, in a previous life, a haberdashery, and the conversion has kept much of the original features intact – of note, a row of wooden cupboards and shelves which the restaurant have incorporated into the bar area. Also twin staircases in the corners and a secluded nook to the rear. The tables are nicely spaced and created a cosy and welcoming vibe. A good range of chairs and benches, large windows to the front and side. Landmark is a good work for this location. The beer was Peroni, as it was and as it should be in an Italian restaurant. Peroni in cold glass bottles. Crisp, satisfying and superior. Good choices on the menu – a mix of the classics and some novel dishes. Opted to try the arancini to start – I do like arancini. In this case, the risotto inside was unctuous and rich, oozing flavour. The starter portion came with two – I would have liked three (or four…), but they were rich, so I’m not sure. The sauce was beautifully peppery and an excellent accompaniment. I also spotted garlic mushrooms – yum. For a main, I opted for pizza – they had a calzone, but I chose not to go that way for once. The pizza was the Festa de Carne (or the Fiesta Del Carne as I ordered…) This pizza features Milano salami, pepperoni, smoked prosciutto, roasted peppers and caramelised onion. Lovely base and a good amount of meat. Meat for the people. A good size as well – not too big and with a nice and thin base – I could eat the whole thing, including the crust and it didn’t feel like a challenge. I saw a calzone as well going elsewhere – looked plump but again, not too big. I would order that to try in future. On the specials board there was a fantastic sounding truffle pasta with mushrooms – I would also try that. Didn’t have a pudding on this occasion. There were some lovely looking ones on offer, including what looked like a big creamy bun (I think this was actually tiramisu) , but I just wasn’t in a pudding mood. If you know what I mean. I regret that now, as I love tiramisu. Overall a very positive experience – tasty food, reasonably priced and excellent service on the night. People talk highly of this restaurant and that’s clearly well deserved. I will add this place to my list of favourites in York and will certainly look to visit again at some point to try some of the other items on the menu. If I lived here, I’d definitely be visiting for the lunchtime deal.

Had a very pleasant meal in Marzano’s last week and highly recommend it. As a family we were welcomed by very friendly door staff and our server was really good - friendly, helpful, professional and efficient. The restaurant is in a great setting and the interior is decorated very pleasantly. The flow of the restaurant seems to work well. We all enjoyed our food which was tasty and fresh and the price was reasonable too. We’ll definitely be back.

My daughter and I had missed out on a table for NYE but grabbed the chance to try out this highly recommended restaurant- and we were really happy we had the opportunity. The staff were friendly and attentive enough without being over bearing. We enjoyed great cocktails, before our meal. The starter fantastic. Simple salad but the ingredients were fresh, well put together and delicious. My main course - pork belly was super tasty and I would eat it again in a heartbeat. Thanks for a great experience. Loved marzano’s for over 2 years, but the relocation has just amplified it’s greatness! The atmosphere just felt classy and elegant. Food was made with love and the servers were all professional and personable. Made for the perfect date night. Always recommend! Definitely try the Arancini and green olives, they’ll make you feel like your dining authenticity in Sicily. Their pasta dishes and specials are always delicious and balanced. Dessert menu is simple but well done.

Came to York for the weekend, visited Marzano for dinner, had a gorgeous meal- started with the bruschetta then had the special meatball pasta. Was exceptional!! Unreal vibes in the restaurant the waitress Ilka was knowledgable and very kind. Could have had more servers as they were very busy but other than that no problems !! Great value and delicious food and wine. Would definitely recommend !!

This restaurant is not very friendly. My friend and I asked for hot water, and they only gave it to us once. When we asked for hot water a second time, the restaurant manager said we would be charged for the second cup. So, we had to settle for cold water. The weather was very cold, and this restaurant felt very mean.

The food is great. But the service is disappointed. There is no one to check if we wanna order until we ask and they give the bill straight away without asking, and rush us to pay. So again the service is horrible. Really need to improve!

I have eaten at the old place and was very happy with everything. The new venue is superb. Everything was good, can't fault it at all. Excellent quality Italian cooking with some new dishes that I've not had before. I strongly recommend.

One of the waiter's attitude was incredibly rude. They put all Asians in one corner. She forced all of us to order a main dish each, was very rude about it but then proceeds to only order 5 for us and when we asked for the other dish she insists that we never ordered it. She glared at one of us, and when she ordered wrongly she still insist that we were in the wrong. It's a female waitress with black hair tied up, the bottom half of her hair was shaved. The other waiters were fine and the food was alright.

We felt very rushed. The food and staff were very nice but we kept being interrupted all the time. No sooner had we put our knife’s and folks down we were given desert menus. We kept saying we are not ready but then another member of staff would come along and ask. So from beginning to end we felt very rushed which was not relaxing.

I have rarely been this disappointed - great rewiews had me expecting great food. But alas, the lasagne was really bad, and I know a thing or two about Italian food. Almost tasteless, bad béchamel, funny taste in background. And the otherwise friendly staff did not even bother to offer me an espresso or Averna as a small compensation. Left feeling sad.

We saw so many good reviews so we decided to give it a try. The food is not too bad, but nothing special, there are plenty nice Italian restaurants so I rate the food to be 2/5. The worst thing is the service, we waited 1 hour and 7 mins and had to ask them to check twice before our food was on the table. One of the staff said it’s expected to wait 45 mins after we order. However, the two tables next to us got their food quite quickly. No apologies from this rude staff. When it finally arrived the pasta was not hot, it was warm ish. If you are looking for an average taste food and long wait or rude service then this is the place for you (the gentleman at the host station was quite nice and helpful and apologised and said this is not their normal standard service).

It is much bigger than I thought. Very good service and food with stunning environment. I will go there again.

We went as a party of 5, booked in advanced and was recommended to try. The food was absolutely sensational. The only downfall was that our waiter needed to seriously address his hygiene needs. There was a dreadful lingering smell of body odor and when our waiter leaned over us we knew where it was coming from. Obviously not something you want when eating such lovely food. The same waiter was also very loud when taking orders from a large party on a Christmas doo, slightly awkward as it completely ruined the atmosphere.

Main served seconds after finishing starters - a brief interlude would have been much better. Ginger beer was a supermarket can and a glass!! Where is the style in that? Either serve a nice craft bottle or pour at the bar please. The prawn starter was amazing! Love the new venue.

An absolutely phenomenal establishment serving nothing but the finest organic ingredients. Service was exceptionally personable and made me feel like I was back in Italy. I will be back.

I've visited a few times, most recently with a group of 10 for an Xmas party. The staff were so helpful and accommadated us with a smile at all times. Fast service despite the restaurant being extremely busy, and the food was cooked to perfection and enjoyed by all of us. George, Lizzie and the manager Sam were our servers/hosts and they are all a credit to the team there. Thank you so much, I shall continue to frequent Marzano!

Was there on Sunday with a very large group (617.club). Food was excellent and service perfect and extremely well organised. Brilliant.

We loved the previous restaurant. Cozy and lovely tasty food. New location very pretty. Food not so much. If it's not broke don't fix it .

The restaurant has moved premises and is now larger with an excellent atmosphere. It was very busy. Staff friendly and welcoming. After an excellent starter and main meal our evening was spoilt somewhat by our dissapointing desserts. My tiramasu was obviously not homemade as I have bought the same from the freezer department of my local supermarket. It was cleverly disguised with a drizzle of chocolate sauce. My husband's affogato was also dissapointing. The expresso which was already poured over the gelato was cold and there were hardly any crushed ameretto biscuits. It was just a cold mess in a sundae dish which he ended up having to drink. To finish we had a luke warm limoncello....this should have been chilled. Great shame hence my low rating for food.

Visited the new Marzano. Lovely surroundings. The food was good, tasty and plentiful. The staff were helpful and attentive. Wishing you luck with the new restaurant. We will be back.

Amazing, just fantastic! Good menu. Great service. Beautiful building. Food was cooked OK, pizza could have done with having a crispy base but otherwise ok. It was a very nice meal out. Would recommend. I wish we had a restaurant like this close to our home.

I strongly recommend seafood rice stew. The seafood is abundant, the shrimp is firm and tender, the squid is fresh, and the rice is slightly moist. It is currently the best seafood rice I have ever tasted！

A good menu of typical Italian pasta and pizza options all well cooked and well presented. Friendly attentive and efficient staff and a warm and comfortable environment.

On a very wet Saturday 23rd November, we were soaked and miserable. This soon changed when we were lucky enough to stumble upon this fantastic Italian. We were warmly welcomed and had attentive staff throughout our meal. The hot delicious food came quickly, impressive because the restaurant was very busy. We knew that our table was reserved for someone else later, but we never felt rushed. Thanks so much. C

2nd visit. Popped in for lunch without a reservation, was busy but they managed to squeeze us in. Lovely wine, garlic and tomato flatbread and a couple of lasagnas, all delicious and piping hot. Staff were friendly, prices were reasonable and there was 2 course set lunch on offer too. Will definitely eat here again if I return to York.

Marzano Italian in York offers a quaint, small setting with a clean and tidy atmosphere, including well-maintained toilets, which is always a plus. However, when it comes to the food, it doesn’t quite live up to expectations for the price. The portions are on the smaller side, and the freshness of the ingredients seems lacking, especially for an Italian restaurant where you’d typically expect bold, fresh flavors. Although the food was disappointing in terms of quality and value, the service stood out. The door staff, in particular, were very kind and welcoming, which added a positive touch to the experience. Unfortunately, despite the friendly service, the overall experience didn’t capture the essence of an authentic Italian dining experience. If you’re looking for true Italian flavors and generous portions, you may want to look elsewhere. Marzano offers decent service, but the food and overall vibe fall short of what you might expect for the price.

Popped in hoping for a table early Friday night with a family of 5, and were quickly accommodated. Servers were all friendly and attentive. The food absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere very charming. Good value, and empty plates from all children and adults. Would definitely return.

Rude and obnoxious staff, we left before ordering due to this, so it's the lowest possible rating for food too. We attempted to eat on 7/11/24 and were served by a male member off staff. I will be making sure to let people know about our experience.

Outstanding. One of the best eateries in York. Gorgeous, tasty, really fresh food. Charming, polite, friendly staff. Would most definitely revisit and highly recommend. Booking advisable as not a huge premises and it is very popular. I had a goats cheese salad, totally delicious and my companion enjoyed her chicken pasta dish immensely. She was equally as impressed. Simply cannot fault this restaurant, which has, probably, the nicest pizza in York. We were able to walk in but would recommend booking as, even on a weeknight, the place was bustling, which made for a very vibrant atmosphere, but did not stop the food and service being pleasant and timely, and the waitress was friendly and chatty. Would absolutely recommend.

The staff is friendly, but the food is not very successful. Pizza dough is problematic, lasagna is not successful.

It's more British Italian, there are just little mistakes in the cooking that don't make it write, Bruschetta should always be on flat bread not on a baguette, linguine vongole shouldn't have any onion with it even if its red onion it just over powers the clams certainly shouldnt be sliced in chunks, pasta never comes with meatballs in Italy, as a starter on there own yes but never with pasta, espresso wasn't great and should always be in an espresso cup However the pasta was perfectly cooked still had a little bite and the wine was excellent as was the service.

Prepare to book ahead on a weekend as walk-ins were turned away on Sunday, and we could taste why. The meatballs melted in the mouth, the Bolognese sauce had a great spicy kick which was not overpowering, the specials were freshly made pasta, and the tiramisu is definitely the best in town!

Family girls meal. I had gnocchi with chicken musrooms in wine plus. (A little less salt needed for me) but lovely, desserts looked nice may try next time. Staff very polite atentive & proffesional, smiling, on a very busy noisey Saturday night, well done. Prices reasonable. Would go again and try more of their menue.

We had a fabulous meal last night. The food was delicious with ample choice to satisfy all tastes. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Atmosphere was warm and happy- absolutely loved it! Will definitely be going back- thank you for a lovely evening.

V busy and popular Italian. Great and friendly service. Extensive range on the menu, plus specials board if you fancy something different. Lobster ravioli was delicious as was the belly pork. Affogato and lemoncello cheesecake were lovely desserts. We had luck in getting a walk in table but booking is recommended - we were given a limited time slot but managed to fit in 3 courses and a bottle of wine!

Aggressively questioned for our booking details on arrival, twice. Felt unwelcome from the start. The Sparkling water provided was a very small bottle which was already opened and very flat - but replaced without fuss. We were immediately chased for our food order, and felt we were being forced out as quickly as possible to turn the table for walk-ins. Thankfully we didn’t get the awful 2 seater table in the middle of the floor. Was advised by one of the four servers not to take the special as it was ‘very, very spicy’ (in other words it was the previous days’ leftover arrabbiata and people had already complained about it). Arancini seemed to be Marks & Spencer’s own. Both main dishes served with the thinnest pieces of chicken possible, and mostly full of fat/skin. Had been looking forward to the ‘full bar and cocktails’, which seemed to be just a couple of shelves of wine and one of gin, no draught beers/ciders available, only bottles. On leaving there was a mandatory gratuity of 10% (or 15 or 20%), preferred tip option would have been 0%. Will never trust a google recommendation again.

Delicious Risotto, kindest service from every staff

Ate here yesterday afternoon. I am dairy and gluten free, which can cause a problem. Not here.. the food and service were excellent. The dairy and gluten free cheesecake was out of this world. Will definitely visit again when in York.

There aren't enough stars for this place! Beautiful rustic italian style with the nicest staff I've ever encountered. Dealing with a large group can't have been easy but they nailed it. Thank you so much for a lovely meal!

This cuisine has little in common with Italian flavors. Food of poor quality, carbonara underseasoned, tagliatelle manzo, so spicy and spicy that you could barely eat it. This is not Italian cuisine. The description does not say that this is a very spicy dish. The service also does not inform us that the dish is very spicy. We have been to Italy many times and the cuisine does not resemble Italy.

Food is always extremely delicious, I have had many things from the menu and have never been disappointed. Service is great too the staff are very friendly and would highly recommend trying this restaurant.

Had Lasagne, it was good, but thought it was on the small side, was still hungry afterwards. My daughter and her boyfriend had Arrabiatta pasta.
