Disappointed compared to old venue. Decor not Mediterranean style, lost the family business vibe. Food was great and service good. Table 8- could smell cigarette smoke from staff going out to smoke and rubbish and toilet all over restroom floors

A great Saturday night for our group of 18!** The staff were fantastic—warm, attentive, and efficient. The food was delicious, with great value on the kids' meals, which they thoroughly enjoyed. My husband loved his risotto, and I found the Ensalata to be fresh and flavorful. While the restaurant itself is lovely, I rated the atmosphere four stars, as it felt a bit like a school canteen, with noise overpowering the music. That said, it’s still a wonderful spot for a meal. A quick note for visitors—be aware that the toilets are located down a flight of stairs

Booked online to guarantee getting in,on booking form question asked if there's a reason for your visit, it was the wife's birthday but the restaurant don't do anything to make the occasion any different from any other visit so not really sure why it was on booking app,apart from that food and service was more than acceptable

Incredible atmosphere, outstanding service and food that truly blew me away! I had the lasagne - it was rich, flavourful and absolutely delicious. And the tiramisu? Easily one of the best I've ever had. A must-visit spot if you're ever in York!

Food was great. We had lasagne, verdure risotto and the lobster agnolotti. All delicious. And our waitress , Grace , was exceptionally good.

They rushed us so much that we couldn't have dessert.

We were very much looking forward to our visit and had booked ahead, we were seated in what I would call the "naughty corner " behind some plants. I found the food to be not of the standard I'd expected, starters of Garlic cheese flatbread was thin, dry flavourless with a miserly amount of cheese in the centre and went mostly uneaten, arancini was gritty and without much flavour, this was fed back to staff when they collected the starter plates but they just shrugged. Main pasta dishes were not too bad but the sauce concealed the flavours of the ingredients if that makes sense. I find the card machine being presented to me with suggested tip amounts already calculated starting as 12.5 % to be very American and frankly rude. In truth I would not return which is a shame as the venue is beautiful.

Good food at a reasonable price, pleasant staff

My wife and I walked in around 7pm on Friday and were fortunate to be sat straight away. Service was amazing throughout and the staff were pleasant. Calamari - Amazing, a must try. Bruschetta - Very fresh and delicious. Margherita Pizza - Great fresh taste. Arrabbiata - great taste.

My family and I went here last night. We hadn’t booked and we were let straight in. Absolutely amazing! The service was fantastic - the front of house staff were great. Not only that, the food was amazing too, I had something from the special menu, absolutely delicious! Would 100% recommend this restaurant!

We came in with high hopes since the place has very positive reviews. The staff are super friendly, albeit a little slow at times. A couple of instances where we struggled to get their attention to place our order and pay the bill. They didn’t come round to check if everything was ok with our meal or at the end asking how it was (which is partly why I’m leaving this review). The real disappointment was the food. The carbonara tasted like watery cream. Couldn’t taste any egg or cheese and the pancetta was a little chewy. If someone blindfolded me I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between this and a ready meal version tbh. The spaghetti bolognaise wasn’t much better. These are not complex dishes so not sure who they have working back there. Very odd considering the reviews are so positive. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day with it being a bank holiday Friday. Such as shame as the restaurant itself is beautifully presented and the staff are energetic and friendly. Wouldn’t recommend. Management if you’re reading this - please review tonight’s service (18th April) because the food was not up to scratch for the prices you’re charging.

Good food at reasonable prices, especially for York. Was able to get a table as a walk in. Was quite loud, but a large eating space so the sound would echo. Service was OK but not as attentive as other establishments we've been to. Overall a good place to eat.

Came here about 2 months ago. Pork belly is amazing. Tried something else tonight and finished with an Irish coffee. Food v.good and pleasant staff.

I'm a York resident but hadn't visited Marano before - despite being a fairly busy Wednesday evening the staff were welcoming and efficient with prompt food service. Unfortunately, that is the best of my comments. We were seated in a back room which was dark and dreary and the food (we had pizza) was at best ordinary and served on well worn wooden boards - sadly my arancini starter had to be handed back as it was warm on the outside but cold in the middle. We booked in here for a birthday meal hoping it would be a bit special - it wasn't. There are far more authentic italian/pizza restaurants in York with a better atmpsphere and food - try elsewhere

Rocked up on a Thursday without a booking. Got us a table for 2 right away even though they were busy. Service was fast and food was 11/10. Would definitely recommend and will come back to York just to visit again. We had the special salmon tagliatelle - best salmon we've ever had. Moist yet textured, perfect crispy skin and beautifully seasoned.

No booking but on arrival at 6.30 last Friday welcomed and shown to a table with the proviso we needed to vacate at 8pm. Excellent food and service.

Large restaurant in the old Stubb's ironmongers building, which transitioned via Loch Fyne into this beautifully fitted Italian restaurant. Despite the huge popularity, absolutely packed on a Saturday lunchtime for example and essential to book, food and service were on point and good value. Great fresh lasagne. First time I've been in the current incarnation as Marzano, will definitely go again.

Aggressively mediocre. Ordered one of the baked pastas and it came with lunch meat chicken in it, with a sauce that tasted straight out of a jar. It felt like food you’d expect at a low class chain We were a larger group so they took us downstairs which was also disappointing. The atmosphere upstairs seems great, the restaurant itself is beautiful but to get to the basement room you have to walk past the kitchen down dingy corridors and the room we were in lacked any of the charm that the upstairs had.

Visited this restaurant during a visit to York last week and it was by far the best Italian food I've ever eaten. The service and staff were excellent. If you love Italian food you got to eat here. Also great value for money.

Lovely staff, lovely food, quick service

Amazing spot for food and drinks, the atmosphere is really cozy and cute. Perfect for a romantic night for two, or even a bigger group as well. This was my second visit and definetly won’t be my last. Amazing food, very welcoming and helpful staff (Shoutout to Pav, they were very welcoming and we had incredible service) 10/10!

Fantastic food and fantastic service, especially when it comes to our little 17 month old. Food always tastes fresh and served relatively quickly. I can’t praise this place enough.

Spur of the moment, not far from where I live, decided to go to Marzano, we ordered the seafood ravioli, and the terrine frutti di mare, which consists of clams, mussels, king prawns, potatoes, in an absolutely gorgeous.......Best tomato sauce I've ever tasted, with a garlic flat bread, with a side of olive oil/balsamic vinegar dip. Great and friendly service, lovely Staff, no rush, not expensive at all, been to Marzano a few times now, it does get busy, for obvious reasons..... update, was at Mazano today 22/02/2025 for my daughter's 25th birthday, couldn't be happier with the food, location and service, they were so busy as well, but looked after us. The starters, sides, mains and deserts were gorgeous, i has 2 glasses of the house red, absolute nectar, and with the steak, perfect.

Everything was spot on, service, food, drinks. Would highly recommend and we will be back.

We found Marzano grill by chance while roaming York and loved the decor and happy diners we saw so had a look at the menu and booked a table, the food was amazing, best Italian we’ve tasted, and the service was fantastic, relaxed but attentive, we had a table by the window, Ideal for watching the world go by, can’t recommend this restaurant enough.

Food and service was great. Think our server was called Adam, he was very polite and attentive. Will be coming back

One of the best Italian restaurants I have been to outside of Italy. I was transported straight to a sunny square in Rome after a bite of this delicious pizza. All of the ingredients were so fresh and the presentation was outstanding. Great place for the kids as well. Our lovely waitress Meghan was attentive and recommended some excellent options from the menu. Her prononciation of the dishes really made me feel like I was in Italy!! Even though I was in rainy York. Great experience. 🍕

What a hidden gem! Booked here last minute to celebrate my birthday and they did not disappoint. It was incredibly busy but the staff were so attentive and the service was fantastic, they made our experience so special and even sang happy birthday to me. The food was delicious, generous portions and full of flavour. Can’t wait until we can go back. Thank you for making our evening so wonderful.

Been therr twice now and enjoyed it both times.

Food basically good, yet services is not that good. We were trying to order dessert, there’s a black waiter telling us “just to let you know you have to leave within 20 mins”, even after we ordered desert he still add up a sentence with “20 mins is that alright?” I mean, if there is any reservation issue he should be dealing with that, instead of pushing customer to leave, makes this problem become customer’s issue. This kinda attitude ruined the great mood food brings to me.

Beautiful new premises. The food was excellent as always, service spot on. Visited Saturday early evening, after a day shopping, the place was buzzing a lovely happy atmosphere. I had a vegetable risotto, it was so tasty absolutely delicious. The young waitress attending our table was a delight. We'll done Marzano you have transferred everything I loved about your old restaurant to your new. A very special place.

One of the biggest cons going in York. So much so that I suspect a lot of the reviews for this place are fake. Poor, even for “Italian” food. Would recommend going to Pizza Express for food that tastes more homemade and more authentic…..

Visited twice, the first time in December and then again in Jan. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, we enjoyed sitting in the window the first time and imagine it will be lovely in summer. Both experiences were excellent in terms of food and drinks. The service was a little inattentive at times, but it was very busy and it was not so much as to spoil our meal. Overall, a nice spot for an Italian meal in York.

My son has autism and will not eat anything in a sauce so asked if they could do plain pasta with a little mozzarella cheese on top when it came it was more like pasta in a cheese the owner knew it wasn't how I explained it needed to be and offered to change it straight away

Had my eye on this smart-looking Italian restaurant on Fossgate for several years now, but it was always packed and I am easily intimidated by crowds… 😃 Decided to try again this week and was very pleasantly surprised to find that it had moved down the road and now sits in the much larger premises previously occupied by Loch Fyne – this was most welcome, a lovely building and they had a space for dinner. Excellent. The restaurant itself is a listed building, sitting adjacent to the bridge over the river Foss – tall and stately. Stray Loch Fyne signs aside, the building itself was, in a previous life, a haberdashery, and the conversion has kept much of the original features intact – of note, a row of wooden cupboards and shelves which the restaurant have incorporated into the bar area. Also twin staircases in the corners and a secluded nook to the rear. The tables are nicely spaced and created a cosy and welcoming vibe. A good range of chairs and benches, large windows to the front and side. Landmark is a good work for this location. The beer was Peroni, as it was and as it should be in an Italian restaurant. Peroni in cold glass bottles. Crisp, satisfying and superior. Good choices on the menu – a mix of the classics and some novel dishes. Opted to try the arancini to start – I do like arancini. In this case, the risotto inside was unctuous and rich, oozing flavour. The starter portion came with two – I would have liked three (or four…), but they were rich, so I’m not sure. The sauce was beautifully peppery and an excellent accompaniment. I also spotted garlic mushrooms – yum. For a main, I opted for pizza – they had a calzone, but I chose not to go that way for once. The pizza was the Festa de Carne (or the Fiesta Del Carne as I ordered…) This pizza features Milano salami, pepperoni, smoked prosciutto, roasted peppers and caramelised onion. Lovely base and a good amount of meat. Meat for the people. A good size as well – not too big and with a nice and thin base – I could eat the whole thing, including the crust and it didn’t feel like a challenge. I saw a calzone as well going elsewhere – looked plump but again, not too big. I would order that to try in future. On the specials board there was a fantastic sounding truffle pasta with mushrooms – I would also try that. Didn’t have a pudding on this occasion. There were some lovely looking ones on offer, including what looked like a big creamy bun (I think this was actually tiramisu) , but I just wasn’t in a pudding mood. If you know what I mean. I regret that now, as I love tiramisu. Overall a very positive experience – tasty food, reasonably priced and excellent service on the night. People talk highly of this restaurant and that’s clearly well deserved. I will add this place to my list of favourites in York and will certainly look to visit again at some point to try some of the other items on the menu. If I lived here, I’d definitely be visiting for the lunchtime deal.

Had a very pleasant meal in Marzano’s last week and highly recommend it. As a family we were welcomed by very friendly door staff and our server was really good - friendly, helpful, professional and efficient. The restaurant is in a great setting and the interior is decorated very pleasantly. The flow of the restaurant seems to work well. We all enjoyed our food which was tasty and fresh and the price was reasonable too. We’ll definitely be back.

My daughter and I had missed out on a table for NYE but grabbed the chance to try out this highly recommended restaurant- and we were really happy we had the opportunity. The staff were friendly and attentive enough without being over bearing. We enjoyed great cocktails, before our meal. The starter fantastic. Simple salad but the ingredients were fresh, well put together and delicious. My main course - pork belly was super tasty and I would eat it again in a heartbeat. Thanks for a great experience. Loved marzano’s for over 2 years, but the relocation has just amplified it’s greatness! The atmosphere just felt classy and elegant. Food was made with love and the servers were all professional and personable. Made for the perfect date night. Always recommend! Definitely try the Arancini and green olives, they’ll make you feel like your dining authenticity in Sicily. Their pasta dishes and specials are always delicious and balanced. Dessert menu is simple but well done.

Came to York for the weekend, visited Marzano for dinner, had a gorgeous meal- started with the bruschetta then had the special meatball pasta. Was exceptional!! Unreal vibes in the restaurant the waitress Ilka was knowledgable and very kind. Could have had more servers as they were very busy but other than that no problems !! Great value and delicious food and wine. Would definitely recommend !!

This restaurant is not very friendly. My friend and I asked for hot water, and they only gave it to us once. When we asked for hot water a second time, the restaurant manager said we would be charged for the second cup. So, we had to settle for cold water. The weather was very cold, and this restaurant felt very mean.

Can not fault this restaurant, absolutely lovely. Excellent service. I recommend you try.

very nice pizza very classic feel

The food is great. But the service is disappointed. There is no one to check if we wanna order until we ask and they give the bill straight away without asking, and rush us to pay. So again the service is horrible. Really need to improve!

I have eaten at the old place and was very happy with everything. The new venue is superb. Everything was good, can't fault it at all. Excellent quality Italian cooking with some new dishes that I've not had before. I strongly recommend.

One of the waiter's attitude was incredibly rude. They put all Asians in one corner. She forced all of us to order a main dish each, was very rude about it but then proceeds to only order 5 for us and when we asked for the other dish she insists that we never ordered it. She glared at one of us, and when she ordered wrongly she still insist that we were in the wrong. It's a female waitress with black hair tied up, the bottom half of her hair was shaved. The other waiters were fine and the food was alright.

We felt very rushed. The food and staff were very nice but we kept being interrupted all the time. No sooner had we put our knife’s and folks down we were given desert menus. We kept saying we are not ready but then another member of staff would come along and ask. So from beginning to end we felt very rushed which was not relaxing.

I have rarely been this disappointed - great rewiews had me expecting great food. But alas, the lasagne was really bad, and I know a thing or two about Italian food. Almost tasteless, bad béchamel, funny taste in background. And the otherwise friendly staff did not even bother to offer me an espresso or Averna as a small compensation. Left feeling sad.

We saw so many good reviews so we decided to give it a try. The food is not too bad, but nothing special, there are plenty nice Italian restaurants so I rate the food to be 2/5. The worst thing is the service, we waited 1 hour and 7 mins and had to ask them to check twice before our food was on the table. One of the staff said it’s expected to wait 45 mins after we order. However, the two tables next to us got their food quite quickly. No apologies from this rude staff. When it finally arrived the pasta was not hot, it was warm ish. If you are looking for an average taste food and long wait or rude service then this is the place for you (the gentleman at the host station was quite nice and helpful and apologised and said this is not their normal standard service).

We went as a party of 5, booked in advanced and was recommended to try. The food was absolutely sensational. The only downfall was that our waiter needed to seriously address his hygiene needs. There was a dreadful lingering smell of body odor and when our waiter leaned over us we knew where it was coming from. Obviously not something you want when eating such lovely food. The same waiter was also very loud when taking orders from a large party on a Christmas doo, slightly awkward as it completely ruined the atmosphere.

Main served seconds after finishing starters - a brief interlude would have been much better. Ginger beer was a supermarket can and a glass!! Where is the style in that? Either serve a nice craft bottle or pour at the bar please. The prawn starter was amazing! Love the new venue.

I've visited a few times, most recently with a group of 10 for an Xmas party. The staff were so helpful and accommadated us with a smile at all times. Fast service despite the restaurant being extremely busy, and the food was cooked to perfection and enjoyed by all of us. George, Lizzie and the manager Sam were our servers/hosts and they are all a credit to the team there. Thank you so much, I shall continue to frequent Marzano!

An absolutely phenomenal establishment serving nothing but the finest organic ingredients. Service was exceptionally personable and made me feel like I was back in Italy. I will be back.

Was there on Sunday with a very large group (617.club). Food was excellent and service perfect and extremely well organised. Brilliant.

We loved the previous restaurant. Cozy and lovely tasty food. New location very pretty. Food not so much. If it's not broke don't fix it .

The restaurant has moved premises and is now larger with an excellent atmosphere. It was very busy. Staff friendly and welcoming. After an excellent starter and main meal our evening was spoilt somewhat by our dissapointing desserts. My tiramasu was obviously not homemade as I have bought the same from the freezer department of my local supermarket. It was cleverly disguised with a drizzle of chocolate sauce. My husband's affogato was also dissapointing. The expresso which was already poured over the gelato was cold and there were hardly any crushed ameretto biscuits. It was just a cold mess in a sundae dish which he ended up having to drink. To finish we had a luke warm limoncello....this should have been chilled. Great shame hence my low rating for food.

Amazing, just fantastic! Good menu. Great service. Beautiful building. Food was cooked OK, pizza could have done with having a crispy base but otherwise ok. It was a very nice meal out. Would recommend. I wish we had a restaurant like this close to our home.
