I visited this restaurant for my daughter’s 40th birthday party. The food was delicious, the staff were fantastic and couldn’t do enough for us. Would highly recommend this little gem

We booked a large group on recommendation of friends and thoroughly enjoyed our food. The service was prompt and friendly. The choices were plentiful and tasted beautiful. It is an unexpected bonus to find such a quality restaurant in an industrial setting. On a cold night, the restaurant was warm and cosy, the toilets a little less so. We'll be back.

Really lovely evening watching the George Michael tribute tonight. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and the music started whilst we were eating. We made a pre order of our choices in advance. All tasted fresh and delicious!! All the tables were booked and shows how popular these evenings are! It was tricky to find the restaurant as we were driving in the dark, and the roads had lots of pot holes so you need to drive carefully!

Visited with friends for a tribute night. Not only was he good, the food was excellent. Staff attentive and friendly. Great atmosphere and will certainly visit again. Thank you for an enjoyable evening.

Went with friends the place has a nice chilled vibe the kitchen is open view and there was the right amount of space for tables. The staff were attentive and friendly, and all are meals we're very tasty. Will definitely be visiting again. We did visit again for a motown and Soul Night with a set menu, good evening of entertainment, and good food 😋

Stunning meal tonight. Beef Carpaccio for starters followed by Lobster Ravioli im tomato sauce which was absolutely delicious.

An unusual location, the outside really doesn't give any clues whats inside. Once inside it's gorgeous, lovely food and service. I enjoyed watching planes and gliders landing in the sunset from the balcony with our grandson as well, gorgeous views across farmland.

Reservé un vuelo en un giróscopo y almorcé aquí después para parte de mi cumpleaños 50. Lo disfruté mucho. Tomando turnos para nuestro vuelo el resto de nuestro grupo observó desde el balcón. Nos cuidaron durante casi 5 horas e incluso me cantaron feliz cumpleaños.

Was a quiet night when we went. Would be a great place for lunch on a sunny day and could watch the airfield from the balcony, good place for kids..(.a kids menu)and any one into aircraft.

First appearances, it just seems to be a big metal hangar, down a potholed track in the middle of nowhere. It is. But inside.. Tastefully decorated, bright and airy. Great staff that took the time to engage. I had Sirloin, which was really good and dining companion had lamb chops which she enjoyed. Reasonable prices. Recommended

Lovely chilled out afternoon at Al Volo whilst waiting for my brother and son out on a flight from the airfield. Lovely outdoor terrace area with heaters and lovely music playing through speakers. Was nice to sit and watch some of the gliders and planes taking off and landing whilst sat having a coffee and some fresh olives. Very classy and exceeded my expectations . Did not expect such a nice hidden gem next to the Hangars! Would love to come back for a meal sometime. Felt very relaxed here

Great night out with friends for the Elton John tribute show-who was fab also!! Beautiful, plentiful food with exquisite service....and gluten free for me!! We all had a fab time and felt we had had great value for money. Thanks guys, keep being amazing!!

Lunchtime visit was absolutely fantastic. Fabulous food and restaurant in the most unassuming of premises. This place is well worth seeking out. With a lunchtime, evening and A la carte Italian menu options to choose from the quality of the food and service puts many city center competitors to shame.

My experience at Al Volo was quite interesting and mixed. When we were arriving, the road was very difficult to drive on with a poor surface and the directions were also hard to follow. The atmosphere however was very good with nice music in the background and very busy with happy diners. However, when we ordered simple starter of bread and olives it took 35 minutes to arrive which is really quite long for a starter which should take minutes to prepare. We ordered our main course at the same time as our starters and it took a frankly ridiculous time of over 1 hour and 20 minutes to arrive. When it did, one of my family members received the wrong dish which meant everyone else had already made their way through their dishes by the time her's had arrived. My food was mediocre. The chicken was well cooked but the dish overall really lacked flavour and certainly wasn't worth the tiresome waiting time. The salad ,which came with the dish, was really poor, with it just being some limp oily leaves again being bland. Though, a relative who had the Fritto Misto thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were nice but there definitely weren't enough to serve the amount of people dining. I understand that Saturday nights are often hard due to the high amounts of reservations and diners but surely there should be some regulation over bookings with less people on the night. Overall, while there was potential, I was all in all rather disappointed with my experience.

I brought my 90+ year old parents to their favourite restaurant for lunch on a Thursday. Don’t be put off by the barely metalled approach road, or the hangar appearance of the restaurant - inside is a real gem. Very friendly service & lovely Italian food. The sea bass special was excellent, & my parents enjoyed their usuals - meatballs & lasagne. If you have a 99 year old dad, they’ll even lift him into your car for you! We’re very grateful. Great venue, excellent food and good size portions. Would be good to have some more vegetarian choices such as veg lasagne or carbonarra etc and for desserts to be labelled as vegetarian. Staff very attentive, place is dog friendly and reasonable prices. Food all cooked to order and authentic. Would recommend and will be going. Would go again.

First time visit for lunch following a recommendation and it won’t be our last. We chose from the classic menu (two offered) - the meatballs were excellent!! A good and varied choice of mains and a number of Italian favourites for desert - the tiramisu and chocolate mouse were both as good as we’ve had. Coffee on the terrace outside on a sunny afternoon- what could be better. Really friendly staff in a nicely decorated interior. Well stocked bar and lift available.

Sorry to say our tuna salads were very disappointing. Very basic and something anyone could do better at home. Leafs, a few halved cherry toms, cucumber, half a tin of tinned tuna and some black olives. No dressing, no delights, no effort. Just extremely boring.

We had a lovely night here - I wasn't sure what to expect, but we were very pleasantly surprised. A lovely venue, very friendly and attentative staff and the food was so good: Beautiful presentation, good sized portions and everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. We will definitely go back. They just need to get the road sorted and some sort of lighting for the car park to complete the 5 stars all round!

Hidden off the main road at the side of of Rufforth air field in part of a hangar it's definitely a bit different, we only just got in as we took the last available slot for the evening (so make sure you book). They have a lift for those who cannot manage the stairs. We are thinking of going back on one of their entertainment nights where they have different tribute acts on. *beware the road in is full of pot holes so drive carefully. The food and the staff were all lovely and the food came in a timely manner, we shared a started, both had mains and desserts 🍨, he had a bottle of wine I had a soft drink, we also both had a coffee and it was just over 100 pounds. All the food was delicious. Will definitely be going back. Give yourselves a good 2 hour time slot. Be aware main courses don't come with vegetables you have to order from the sides.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon as a family of 5- pizzas were made fresh and lovely, unfortunately the lasagna was not great but the Manager (I think?) came over and apologised that this was not their usual standard, which I believe given the standard of the other food, and rectified this. Due to this I rated as a 5 as I think we were just unlucky. Portions were generous and we took leftovers home. The service was excellent. It does look a bit strange when you arrive as it is quite off the beaten track, but worth the journey.

Called in here on our way down to the York designer outlet. Everything about this little place is great. We will definitely call again sometime

Best Italian food I have had in York .Ive been twice now & had a beautiful risotto & the linguini & the pizzas .Everything perfect even the ice cream was delicious & locally made . Specials worth trying as they are freshly cooked to order . The view is great straight onto the runway & if you’re lucky you will see gliders ,microlights & gyrocopters . The staff are so friendly & helpful. Do not be put off by the entrance-this is a really good find - have done a Friday & Sat lunch & both times quite busy with a great atmosphere. The family meal was a birthday & in typical Italian style they made it very special. Also worth going for the take away pizzas -best I’ve tasted

Well I booked it on line to go today Saturday lunch time the booking was so easy to do and after reading other reveiws I thought we would go and try it as we don't normally eat a lot of Italian food but after being for lunch a true convert the service and the view of the air field was impeccable and the food was so good my wife has food allergies that they catered for no problem at all it was good finding this little gem thank you for all see you again soon

We had a special 90th birthday lunch here on a Saturday. There were 26 adults & 13 children & the team made it an exceptional family gathering. We hadn’t met up for ~5 years so there was lots of milling about & children all over the place. This didn’t seem to bother the team at all! The arrangements were all made via email with Alessandro who was very friendly & accommodating with the timings, the menu etc. The food was excellent, the staff were excellent & the ambiance was also & it was great value. If you’re after a group lunch/diner, you should try Al Volo.

Went for our Christmas work night out . The food and the service that we received was amazing, and the entertainment was brilliant, tribute to the Rat Pack . Will definitely go for another night out.

Our third time after two brilliant experiences: lunchtime on the terrace watching the giro copters; an evening meal with two of us when the dishes of the day were superb; and last night with friends who had never been before. They were mightily impressed and will come with friends they want to introduce to Al Volo. Francesco is an impressive host and the food is miles away from the fast food Italian experienced so often.

As an Italian, I was brought here by my British father in law to test the authenticity and I was extremely pleased to testify that is place is not only authentic but really good! The owner are from the Italian island of Sardinia and they bring classic Italian dishes and regional speciality as well! Highly recommended!

A hidden gem. Amazing food, great service, really cozy atmosphere.

Our first visit, after recommendations from several people. Like most reviewers, we found the access road to have numerous potholes. The approach to the restaurant is uninspiring, with the entrance a plain door in the side of a warehouse. The restaurant is accessed by a utilitarian steel staircase. There is a lift but the doors would not open when we tried so disabled / wheelchair users should phone ahead to ensure access is available. If this has put you off - don’t let it. The restaurant itself is light, bright and modern. Pasta and pizza is made freshly on the premises and we could see this happening through viewing panels to the kitchen. The menu is interesting and varied. We had seafood mains that were delightful and certainly not the bland standard of many local Italian restaurants. Service was exemplary without being intrusive and the meal came fairly quickly considering it had been freshly prepared. During daylight hours there is an open aspect view over a wide expanse of grassed airfield and when weather conditions permit you may see tug planes and gliders on one side of the airfield and closer there will be microlights. This is not just a place to eat - it’s a dining experience. We are glad we tried it.

Great food. Get service. Quirky location. I also went back for lunch a few days later and watched a helicopter land just at the back and other planes and gyrocopters taking off. This is the best tasting food I have had in ages.

Great food all round, really great service. Partner wanted something seen on the classic menu and the chef was happy to make in the evening. Food was a good speed and larger portions than expected. Really lovely little venue, saw a couple of gliders go up which was cool to see.

We shared a very relaxed meal celebrating family import events . Our daughter is vegetarian with a dairy allergy and the staff provided us with a special vegan ravioli plate for her .

What a fantastic, unique little restaurant. Lovely atmosphere, amazing food and fantastic service. Definitely returning to watch the view over the airfield at some point. If there's a way to cut out the middleman and just have the bruschetta starter directly injected into my veins I WILL invest in that technology. Dont allow yourself to be put off the exterior setting, this place cannot be missed. Oh, and the carbonara pizza 🤌. Hell on earth, that hits the spot.
