Pizzoli in York

Had arancini which were tepid so took them back to be reheated, one was still lukewarm, would have been better freshly made -

Recently started working in York and Pizzoli has become one of my favourite lunchtime haunts. Pizza is a simple meal and here it is simply perfect, try a slice of pepperoni, you won’t regret it.

The pizza here was to die for,10/10 lovely.no cap even the crust was well nice and I don’t normally like crust.

Visited here Thursday lunchtime with a friend and two teenagers. My friend has lived in Italy and I have been a number of times; we were both in agreement that the food took us back!

I’ve had a LOT of lasagnes in my life all over the world including in Italy and this is up there with the best I’ve ever had. All the food is great and the service is friendly and easy. Antonio’s is the best Italian in York for me!

Having recently discovered Pizzoli it has become my new favourite lunch spot when out in York. My former usual was Pret, what was I thinking?! Freshly made pizza, straight out of the pizza oven. Sicilian street food that makes me close my eyes and dream I’m over there.

If you want really good pizza try this place. Located in a small cluster of catering units in the Shambles Market with outside tables to share amongst all the food outlets. The Sicilian pizzas are really good - thin, authentic and very tasty. We have only tried the Caponata but have been quite a few times and has been spot on every time. At just under £10 for a pizza to share and cooked to order in about 10 mins it’s hard to beat.

I had chance to chat to Tony while my ragu arancini were cooking and discovered that he is from Catania. The best arancino I ever had was in a bar opposite Villa Bellini in Catania, and Tony’s came pretty close. It’s great to enjoy such authentic Sicilian street food here in Yorkshire. It transported me back to some really good memories of happy times with friends and family in Sicily.

Very nice food, I felt like I was in Italy when I ate a calzone, because it's that authentic. The cooking could be faster, but the result is well worth the wait. Tony is a very nice man, and a good chef. Whenever you're just in York for the day, or you live there, I definitely recommend eating at Pizzolis. Keep on cooking, Tony!

Quick lasagne pit stop - was ready on the cabinet so instant service and sat on one of the tables in the market square. Lasagne was nice. Not amazing, but nice.

What a surprise to find a tiny Italian restaurant in the shambles market, and even more surprising to find arancini in the menu! When the freshly prepared arancino was handed to me by a very kind girl, it felt warm and familiar. When I ate it, I found myself in the warm land of Sicily and dreamed the blue of the sea, the scent of herbs and flowers, and kindness of its people. Never have I had such a good arancino in my entire life! I have found a new venue to absolutely include into my tour next time I visit this beautiful town!

I’ve been here many times for a quick meal, and to be an Italian It has been a pleasure to eat some Pizza or an Arancino in the shambles. It’s an authentic Italian taste and It absolutely worth to stop there for lunch or for a break during a walk in the shambles. If you want to try some Italian specialities that differ from the “non-italian” food you find in the big chains restaurant!

Trovare in Inghilterra un pezzo d'Italia, genuina e verace, non ha prezzo. Se chiudi gli occhi mentre mangi da Pizzolí ti sembra di essere in Sicilia. Si sente la passione mediterranea. Complimenti

We had pizza twice during our day at the food festival and this one was the best! The beardy guy was nice and smiley and the pizza was delicious.

We came here on the food trail and it was delicious! Very generous with the pizza and we all agreed it was scrummy! Perfect street food for a day of shopping.

Every time we visit York we have to visit Pizzoli to buy some of the amazing Arancini- rice balls stuffed with a range of delicious fillings. They are beautiful and great value too! The owner and his family are warm and welcoming and value your custom. We wish we lived nearer so we could go every week! Highly recommended!

From the variety of delicious food on offer I chose a pizza which was the finest I've ever tasted. I will keep coming back as I am sure many others will too. This is authentic Sicilian food at its best so if you haven't visited yet, you know where to come.

Ordered two delicious pizzas. Prepared very quickly. Dough was tasty and crispy. I would just add some herbs! If you don't eat to much or you're not to hungry one pizza for both could be fine.

Da siciliano trasferitosi in UK, sono finalmente riuscito a trovare un luogo che mi fa sentire a casa. Ho provato le lasagne, l'arancino al ragù e il pizzolo 4 formaggi, e non c'è stata una cosa che mi ha deluso! Arancino fritto al momento, pizzolo preparato al momento, tutto fresco, fantastico. Antonio è veramente una persona simpatica e si vede che mette il cuore nelle cose che fa. Mi mancavano i sapori di casa. Spero proprio apra anche a Leeds :) ci tornerò al 100%.

Ho appena finito di mangiare un arancino al ragù e posso garantirvi che è squisito. Complimenti ad Antonio per l'idea e per la qualità del suo street food.

Sono capitato per caso nel mercato di York e ho fatto una piacevole scoperta: uno Street food come si deve! Ho conosciuto il titolare molto simpatico ma soprattutto bravo a cucinare.Pizza e pasta al forno come si deve prezzi allineati ma non cari Da provare sicuramente se uno è a passeggio per York

Is not easy to find a real italian pizza mostly when you re italian and maybe a bit more exigent when it comes to your home country traditional food. At Pizzoli, in the middle of Shambles you may find just the original pizza and focaccia made as the sicilian taste requires. You may also take away or order in advance lovely original lasagna or a revisited lasagna made with layers of aubergine, veggies loved in Sicily.A pinch of spicy and lots of love for the good food you may find in this little corner, clean and good looking :).I surely visit this place again and if you're in the nearby don't hesitate to ask Antonio, the chef, for a slice of Margherita or a "stuffed" yummie pizza.
