La Piazza Antica in York

Visited this restaurant for dinner during our recent short-stay in York. We went past it during the daytime and liked the look of the menu so returned that evening and were able to get a table as a walk-in booking, although the restaurant was extremely busy. We had a table in a room at the rear of the restaurant and found the ambience excellent. We weren't sure of portion sizes so chose not to order starters, and this was a good decision as the main courses were more than adequate. The food was very very tasty, full of flavour and piping hot. We saved room for dessert and were so glad that we did. The limencello panna cotta was the best dessert I have ever had anywhere!!! Perfect!!! This is a fantastic restaurant with great food and great service, and very reasonably priced. We were served by Julia, Ricardos, and Sara - all of which were lovely, friendly and helpful. We will definitely be returning to this restaurant on our next visit to York.

What an amazing restaurant. From the second we walked through the door, the service was outstanding and totally attentive, professional and super friendly. The cocktails were fab and the food absolutely beyond fabulous. We even spoke with the owner direct, who came and sat with us so we could to tell him what a great team he had and how everyone was doing a super job. Will absolutely definitely return soon... can not wait to try more delicious food from this menu :)

Excellent service, food was absolutely delicious. I have an allergen to tomatoes which they took seriously. This was a celebration meal for my husbands 40 years on the railway could not ask for a better place to Celebrate. Was served by our lovely waitress Tosia, who made sure through out our meal that everything was all ok. Would highly recommend this place to who ever would like a very relaxing meal in a beautiful old building.

Excellent Italian food and our family is from Italy so we are discerning customers! Service was great and welcoming. We went back for dinner the next time. Our servers for both meals were Giulia, Nehru, Tosia. All 3 of them were super!

Authentic Italian in the heart of York Loved everything Friendly welcome True family vibe here tried Lunch Menu had Tomato soup (exceptional) followed by Seabass (omg) Mrs had garlic mushrooms and chicken with a mushroom sauce (proper chicken) generous portions and excellent value House Wine Fab too did not have room for sweet will defo be back when in York!

We came to York few times but it was our first time here. We loved every single dishes and we enjoyed everything. The Grufo Primitivo was an explosion of flavours. Our server, Giulia was very friendly and lovely with us. We didn’t order dessert ONLY because we were stuffed 😂 I really recommend this place bcs I will definitely come back

Called in late Sunday evening absolutely outstanding both food and service. Best tasting pizza and tagliatelle in York. Friendly staff Julia went out her way to make sure we had a fantastic evening. Definitely recommend

Really fancied an Italian for a nice Saturday evening meal - there are quite a few offerings in York, but after a look around and a scan on TripAdvisor, decided to opt for this establishment - and we were not disappointed. Booked a table online and managed to get in with no issues at 1915hrs. Restaurant filled up so would definitely recommend booking to avoid disappointment. Starter I went for was the mushrooms as per photo - lovely and creamy, a GREAT option. Next up was the Calzone Diavolo - absolutely delicious. The crust was baked to perfection and came with a pot of Napoli sauce alongside, which was ideal for dipping. Very pleasant staff, came over to check up on us numerous times. Dessert choices fairly limited, but I think that is fairly standard with Italian restaurants across the board. A lovely double espresso rounded off the meal nicely. Lovely setting in an old building as you would expect in York. Recommended

We visited here on a Saturday lunchtime (for my wife’s birthday) in January. We opted for the lunchtime menu and all 4 meals were really good quality (2 starters and 2 main courses). We both had the Camembert starter, and for the main my wife had the chicken in mushroom sauce and I had the arrabiata pasta. All cooked fresh and decent portions. We loved the quirkiness of the restaurant (wooden beams and creaky floors) and the service was spot on. The only slight downer was a loud group of 3 younger clientele were seated right near us and we couldn’t hear ourselves speak. Thankfully they only had one course and left. Overall the meal was really good value in a great location and we will definitely return.

Very disappointed. My lasagne was dry and over microwaved. The waiter actually said...it's very hot because like everything it's been nuked! He was almost insulting the place.

Amazing Italian restaurant. The food was exceptional, service was impeccable and had an all round good vibe. Would 100% recommend to anyone! Will definitely be my go to when visiting York again.

My husband and I had an excellent meal at La Piazza last Saturday, 4th January. The dough of the garlic pizza bread we shared as a starter was the best I've ever tasted - light and crispy. My husband pronounced his pepperoni pizza to be very good and of a generous size but the star of the show was my Pollo Imbottoto. Not only was it absolutely delicious but also beautifully presented. The Maitre d' was attentive and friendly as was the man who presented our bill, whom we assumed to be the owner. It was the first time we've been there under the present ownership but it most certainly won't be the last!

Fantastic experience. Really friendly place with great food. Good value for money in York. Waiters were lovely. Lovely old building.

This restaurant had been recommended by a friend and it didn’t disappoint. Very friendly staff, very good food (with lunch menu deal: portions were so generous we cancelled the pudding and took away half the huge pizza!). Worth booking to ensure you get a table (the one looking onto the courtyard at the back is nice).

Visited this as part of a visit to the Christmas Market. What an amazing meal. We ate from the set Christmas menu, the food was incredible and the price was really reasonable. The staff were amazing, a big shout out to Sam and Julia. Will definitely be back next time we visit.

I have recently went in for my birthday with family and the staff was brilliant and the waiters were handling the busy time was good and the dedication of the waiters were cheerful and rhe food was good recommend

One of many eating places in the city, we chose this for location and the menu on offer. We had a very delicious meal, in a well laid out restaurant. There was plenty of room between tables and a very relaxed atmosphere with an appropriate level of lovely background music. Our waiter was excellent, very engaging and made us feel welcome from the start. In fact, this was true of all the staff. The food was perfect, presented nicely and tasted delicious. Would definitely visit again the next time we are in York and would recommend it to anyone who appreciates quality Italian food.

Just had the most delicious dinner and wonderful, friendly service here tonight. Can thoroughly recommend. We chose the set menu for value and were not disappointed with a single thing. Garlic mushrooms, arancini, pasta arrabiata and gnocchi just as it should be, soft and pillowy! Followed up with limoncello panna cotta and sorbet desserts. Think it's the best meal we've had in England. You'd better book ahead. The secret is out!

What a delight to be back. Nothing much changes. The food the staff and the singing waiter hence to say he sings at night. I always managed to get a bit of song out of him. The food is good value and so nice.

Found this Italian Restaurant in York and what a fabulous place. The ambience is so authentic, nice music playing, lovely warm welcome from John Franco and a very efficient waitress. The food is outstanding, lovely garlic pizza bread with mozzarella to share to start with and then I had the Ravioli Aragosta - Lobster stuffed pasta finished in saffron sauce with king prawns and samphire grass; it was amazing. My husband had Casarecce Siciliana - casarecce pasta with chicken, pancetta, aubergine, garlic, chilli and tomato sauce and we had a lovely bottle of Rose Wine. Wonderful lunch, we would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.

Lovely spot outside in the sunshine. Pleasant surroundings in a lovely location. Nice staff who are attentive to detail.definitely re visit asap.

Spent the day in York and spotted this place as we walked round. Greeted as soon as we stepped in and were given a table by the window. Food was beautiful and service was great. We loved it and already said we would be back next time we are in York. We ordered off the lunch menu. Would definitely recommend and return to!

This was my second visit to this wonderful restaurant. My first was in a business trip and after that I vowed to take my family back when we were on holiday, everything from start to finish in this restaurant is class. Service, quality and ambiance. My wife rated it as the best restaurant on our holiday. My son even got to meet the chef to say thank you for his amazing food. Thank you to all the team for making our night so special,

Well we went for the evening meal to celebrate our friend's 60th. Atmosphere perfect, staff excellent. Food was just so good the choice of dishes was just wonderful and all of us said how much we loved eating there none of us left an empty plate... plus our singing water was just brilliant to finish off a great out of excellent food...
