The best restaurants serving French food in South East

Great cafe for breakfast. Pancakes are delicious and everything is reasonably priced. Friendly staff too. Would recommend

We visited as a group of 6 friends. Some of our group had already been for food here, and had been so enthusiastic about it, that we arranged this meal. We had lunch, and tried several dishes and the cheese and platter board between us, and wine suggested by the owner and his son. It was a brilliant meal, food was great, wine very good, but the atmosphere was like our visits to France, relaxed and friendly, nothing to rush for, very nice. I think you are likely to have to book ahead, it seemed very busy and popular. Great afternoon.

We went here for a Sunday Lunch with 10 of us. The food was really tasty and visually appealing. I opted for the small plate which was plentiful and topped off with a large perfectly cooked Yorkshire pudding. I particularly liked that vegetables weren't what you would normally get, the addition of red cabbage was a great touch. The pub is also very dog friendly and they even do a doggy roast. We travelled from Bicester, Oxford and Witney to meet up and I would definitely make the journey again based on the food we had.

Definitely a place to go and eat and chat. Relaxed, interesting atmosphere, great food - unusual and tasty - lovely background music. Not conventional... hurrah!

We were given a very warm welcome on our arrival. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was excellent so was the wine (Sancere). The fries were a tad under cooked and my husband mentioned it. They were immediately replaced with an apology. This did not affect our meal at all. As it was my birthday we were given a free glass of Prosecco each, a birthday card and my pudding (crème brûlée) was served with ‘Happy Birthday’. I can highly recommend the pork belly and my husband had the mussels. Definitely well worth a visit.

Nos topamos con este restaurante mientras nos aventurábamos por Marine Drive en Brighton. El lugar era muy atractivo desde el exterior, con mesas y sillas acogedoras. En el interior una sensación muy fresca, brillante y peculiar. Fuimos recibidos por un anfitrión amable, ella señaló las ofertas de comida en exhibición, llamó nuestra atención que todos los sándwiches, rollos y baguettes todos recién hechos desde cero. Su fue una selección de tortillas, barritas de patatas fritas, etc. Abundantes pasteles caseros, pasteles. La selección habitual de bebidas calientes, bebidas frías, cervezas frías, chocolate caliente, etc. El personal era muy profesional, acogedor, atento y extremadamente amable. La única crítica fue que las moscas estaban en abundancia sobrevolando todos los pasteles descubiertos, esto era muy poco atractivo. Nos dimos cuenta de que una pareja entró, vio todas las moscas en lo alto de los pasteles e inmediatamente dijo que no comía aquí. Es una verdadera lástima, ya que esto está desalentando a los clientes potenciales de disfrutar de pasteles y pasteles. Nuestro consejo es cubrir TODOS los pasteles, no solo algunos de ellos, comprar más cúpulas de vidrio y cubrir todos los alimentos comestibles, ya que esto garantizaría una revisión de cinco estrellas en el futuro. Nos fuimos después de tomar unos bocadillos con ganas de comer un pastel pero terminamos encontrando un restaurante alternativo. Aparte de las críticas anteriores, todo aquí fue fantástico. It was a very enjoyable experience ! This restaurant is managed by 2 parents and 2 daughters and uses family recipes from Nantes. JP the very friendly owner explained to us the catch of the day and all the fresh arrivals on the menu. We chose oysters muscles charcuterie escargots for starters that were delicious followed by sea bass and finally the deserts were “la cerise sur le gâteau “ as we say in French. If you want a sea food platter you need to order it.

A little gem in Canterbury. The small courtyard garden is absolutely cozy and the petit déjeuner was great. The coffee is nice and strong. There was also a very nice German who served us. We'll be back on our next vacation!

We had a great dinner and if we lived locally we would definitely be regulars. Interesting menu and so much better than the usual chains. Warm welcome and specials of the day were explained. Service was friendly and professional. We both had great authentic French food - my wife's duck breast was particularly good. Next time we are in Windsor we will definitely be back...

We turned up today on a wet and windy day. They bent over backwards to serve us. Then when we asked for the best taxi service locally they informed us just how difficult it would be. Within seconds they offered us a ride back to our campsite. Can’t recommend enough

We were on our way home from Mottisfont and saw a sign for two pubs. We pulled into The Grey Hound and asked if they served sandwiches. We have never tasted sandwiches like this before, they were off the scale. My partner had a very special sausage sandwich with dipping gravy and I had a Croque Monsieur. Both were served with homemade coleslaw and leaves with a delicious dressing. The young lad behind the bar was friendly and welcoming, as was the lady we spoke to when we left. I would highly recommend The Grey Hound and can only imagine how excellent dinner would be, as the chef is clearly very talented.

Original review below from 2017, sadly as of Nov 2023 now seems to be closed. Facebook showed closure as of July but hours not updated. Wasn't open on a Saturday afternoon/evening when we visited. Fantastic hospitality, great beers. need to come back to try the food!
