We’re regulars at the Greyhound so don’t normally review but wanted to say thank you for a lovely Saturday night dinner. The steak - and the pink peppercorn sauce - deserve a special mention. The puddings were all creative and delicious too. Our out-of-town friends were very impressed that such high-quality food is available in our village pub. So big thanks to Kerry & Ryan and all the staff.

Met up with friends for a relaxed lunch. The food was really good, enjoyed our various dishes with some superb well kept beer. We had booked for Sunday lunch but were informed a couple of hours before that they weren't serving the normal Sunday menu - it would be a Grill menu instead. Having been to The Greyhound before for a lovely meal we were disappointed it wasn't the usual menu but decided to go anyway as it was quite short notice to find somewhere else. I'm not sure whether the usual chef was away but the food was awful. Luke warm jacket potatoes that weren't cooked in places, tough steak and limited choice of salad. The whole place had an odd atmosphere about it. My parents had booked the meal to celebrate some family birthdays and our wedding anniversary so it was such a shame to have an experience like we did. The duty manager was very apologetic and did reduce our bill but I doubt very much that any of us will eat there again.

Early evening mid-week drink. Arrived, not much space to sit down. Slightly unfriendly query about whether we had booked for the restaurant. Said I hadn't been here before and was looking. Male bar staff who served us managed two wrong drinks. Locals/regulars sitting around made no space at bar for a new order to be made and were loud and unwelcoming with plenty of bad language. Main bar stank of smoke.

We three walkers popped into the Greyhound on the off chance of getting a table on a Saturday lunchtime. They have a lovely restaurant 'which we were welcome to use' but we choose to eat in the bar area as we were a bit grubby. 'It was a rainy day'. Plus the fact we had been foraging for walnuts in a friends garden who lived locally. Anyway enough of the chat. I don't often leave reviews these days as I got depressed talking about over priced bar food and poorly kept beer. What a refreshing change the Greyhound turned out to be. A lovely welcome as we came in. A very pleasant young man served us and the food was well above the norm that most pubs dish up and at a competitive price. Our compliments to the chef. Oh! and the beer was very well kept and a good selection to choose from. So what a delight as we set off on the walk back to Kings Sombourne in the rain with memories of a very decent homely pub. Thanks to all the staff.

We received a great welcome at the Greyhound, really great friendly people. We were more than happy with the service and the food. The pub is on the Clarendon Way, so after our meal we walked a bit of that path that runs behind the houses opposite the path. We then made a circular route by walking back along the road. Both the path and the village are beautiful.

Cracking little village pub. We stopped off at Broughton as needed to charge up our electric car & they've got a couple of fast chargers near the village stores (also worth a visit) - it's always nicer to stop off somewhere like here and grab some decent lunch, instead of queuing up to charge in a motorway service station and getting robbed due to the cost of a service station sarnie. The greyhound is a wonderful pub. We were made to feel welcome the moment we arrived. There was plenty of choice on the menu & the sandwiches were deep filled & nice thick doorstop slices. I can thoroughly recommend the Rueben sandwich - generous portions of salt beef (salted by the pub I think I read on the menu). My wife had a croque monsieur and really enjoyed along with a big bowl of skin on fries. Decent pint (so decent I had to have 2 & my wife drove the 2nd part of the journey) & good pot of tea. Our dog was very taken with the pub landlady's 4 month old chocolate lab, so everyone found the greyhound a hit. When you arrive at places like the Greyhound at Broughton, it affirms why it's worth doing some forward planning - taking an hour or so out of a long journey & having a break at somewhere off your route, as it makes the journey part of the holiday, rather than a stressful slog to get somewhere as fast as you possibly can. Thanks for a memorable lunch!

Very disappointing mothers day meal-they booked way too many covers and we're rushing round like headless chickens-the food was created out of the cheapest of produce and was way below average-staff rushed off their feet and unable to manage simple tasks like getting us some table water-waited 1 hour and 15 mind after they served us the smallest starter for our cold mains to come through and then was made to feel like we had to go because the next customers were waiting for our tables!what should have been a mother's day treat turned out to be a very very disappointing and distasteful visit. expected them to be busy however being made to feel a burden when being charged £30-38 per meal was shocking!

We booked in for a Mothers Day lunch at the Greyhound, Broughton. I want to start this review & mention I don’t often write these, but I couldn’t not following the experience we had as I don’t want anyone to ever go through what we went through - especially for a special occasion like Mother’s Day. As soon as we arrived we felt very unwelcome. We were placed in a table opposite the bar area which was clearly the hub for all the staff. Throughout we heard them complain about other customers & have arguments with one another about the issues they were experiencing on the day. We had to go up to the bar multiple times to ask for drinks, where we were told someone would see us (someone came to take our order after being there for over 25 minutes). When we ordered drinks, we also ordered food which to our surprise arrived 1 minute later. The young girl (to no fault of her own!) couldn’t hold the weight of the plates, so it nearly went down me when she placed the food down. The food had clearly been pre-made & warmed up in the microwave (hence the one minute turn around). We returned the food as it was cold to later be presented the same food 10 minutes later. I ordered the pork, but I didn’t eat any of the meat as it was inedible - when someone collected my food they questioned why I hadn’t eat it. I fed back to say was very fatty & cold where they replied ‘you clearly haven’t had pork belly before’ - to confirm I have. We then decided to leave. We were presented with the bill for £103 where we had had a total of 3x roasts & 1x drink each (only one was alcoholic). We questioned this & they updated the bill to the price of the food itself. What was strange was a roast was £15 pp yet they were still charging people £30 for a main & starter/dessert, so it was clear they had increased the prices. We only received one apology from the young boy serving us, but all the other staff members (especially the Maître d’) treated us so poorly. I wouldn’t be writing this if we felt genuine sincerity as I do appreciate times like Mother’s Day can be busy having worked in the industry before, however the general attitude of the owners & older members of staff was the worst I’ve ever experienced. A note from me - people do appreciate when times are busy, but please don’t take your frustrations out on the customers who are eating at your establishment.

We met Kerry at the excellent Makers Market in the Great Hall , Winchester a couple of weeks ago and bought one of the Greyhound's signature cheese souffles to cook at home . Needless to say it was excellent and we decided to discover the Greyhound for lunch. We went earlier today and were greeted warmly by all the Greyhound team . The pub has a nice ambience , making us 'feel at home' from the outset. The menu is short , not a bad thing, and provides a variety of choices to suit various tastes , so we started with another excellent cheese souffle . To follow Jan had the substantial and tasty burger while I opted for the rump steak rarebit, unusual but delicious. I finshed with the wonderful clementine panacotta , a great end to a wonderful lunch. We made a 30 mile round trip to visit the Greyhound , but feel that it was most worthwhile and we shall return in 2024 !! Thank you to Ryan , Kerry and the team. Keith and Jan

We had a Sunday roast at lunch time and it was awesome. I had the veggie roast which came with a potatoe and leek pie, all the veg was lovely and fresh, good variety too. Broccoli cheese, roast beetroot, mashed weet potatoes as well as the standard veg. Lovely gravy to go with it. My partner had the beef which was just the pink and my daughter had the lovely soft gammon. There is a lot of history in the building, I found some of the fixtures a little too modern, but that is just my opinion. Great photos and pictures on the wall and really attentive service. We dropped into the Grey Hound for lunch a few years ago (before Covid!) and were disappointed that all they served was Thai food which we didn't want. We had a drink and left. We happened to be passing yesterday and decided to drop in again and see if what was on the menu was more to our liking. I am SO glad we did - the pub has changed hands since our last visit and the new(ish) owners have a proper pub/gastropub menu again. We shared a delicious starter of pitta, hummus and guacamole mayo. I then had a beer battered cod goujon & tartare sauce sandwich and my partner had a roast beef and horseradish sandwich, both on proper granary bread. His sandwich had a very generous amount of beef and he said the horseradish had a really good bite to it. We also ordered the truffled old Winchester fries and mac and cheese, expecting them to be small portions which is normally what you get as a side. I'm happy to say the portions were very generous and utterly delicious. A lot of times these days, the food and service we get from chains and independents is mediocre at best but I can honestly say everything at the Grey Hound was perfect. The food was gorgeous, the staff friendly, efficient and pleasant and the overall experience was fantastic. All I can say is that I can't wait to go back again!

The staff at The Greyhound went above and beyond for us today. Having set out from Winchester on a long hike to Broughton the lure of their fabulous roast dinner was all the motivation we needed. Unfortunately we ran into difficulties and fearful we would miss the end of the lunch service the staff at The Greyhound surpassed all of our expectations and came to our rescue so that we might enjoy the wonderful food we'd been dreaming of on route. We can thank them enough for their kindness or rate their food highly enough - just the tonic we required. Thank you, I wish there were more than 5 stars above, you deserve so much more.

Wonderful, friendly pub. We brought our dog along and she was welcomed with treats. The menu all sounded amazing, but we both had fish and chips. It was absolutely delicious. Best pub fish and chips I can remember having! The locals are lucky to have this great pub on their doorstep, it has such a nice vibe and clearly is well loved. Pity we were just driving through otherwise we'd be regulars!

In the centre of Broughton, this pub has interesting dining options with a good choice of mains and snacks. The toasted sandwiches were delicious.

Great service and good quality food. We had Sunday lunch and were impressed with the food and attentive service. The Greyhound is a 'good old pub' in a pretty village, recently blessed with new management, the results for our first visit were pretty good.

This is five star cuisine beautifully presented. We did have to wait longer than most people would tolerate but maybe it was just that day and the food when it came redeemed everything. So come with a friend prepared for a good chat and a glass. Bon appetite.

Sometimes, all elements of a meal are excellent and come together to make a memorable occasion. My wife and I visited for lunch on a Tuesday. For a starter, we both ordered 6 escargots. These are served in a special dish with a separate well for each snail, bathed in butter, garlic and parsley. The snails were tasty and we had ordered a portion of chopped baguette, so that we could soak up the juice left in each well. The baguette was wonderfully fresh and delicious, as always. For the main course, I ordered a special, a salad of smoked duck, sliced avocado and smokey bacon. The duck was plentiful and thickly sliced. The avocado was in optimal condition. The bacon was not from a supermarket and must have been from some smokery. It was very tasty. My wife ordered a favourite dish of hers, onion tart, which she very much enjoyed. We both ordered a 175cl glass of Sancerre. This was well chilled, as I like it, and of very good quality. Not cheap at £13 a glass, but worth the money. We ended with two excellent coffees. The friendly service and the ambience of the restaurant, with its antique posters of the Cote D'Azur, were impeccable. We had enjoyed a perfect lunch.
