Honestly, wow! Julien's menu is absolutely incredible, the staff (and Julien himself) are welcoming, friendly and happy to accommodate for allergy/dietary constraints. We had to visit twice over our weekend visiting Brighton as we couldn't resist going back. We thoroughly enjoyed some of the savoury (brie and parma ham & croque madame with tomato instead of ham) and sweet options (pain au chocolat, pistachio éclair, macarons) each were fantastic. A real must visit!

A beautiful and authentic slice of France, right at home in the UK. The food was incredible, the staff were friendly, and the atmosphere was delightful. We had the pleasure of meeting the man himself—the culinary wizard, Julien Plumart—and he was incredibly friendly, humble, and welcoming. A must-visit if you're in Brighton!

Nice and welcoming environment. The staff is very friendly and polite. Me and my mum went for an afternoon tea/coffee and as soon as we entered we were offered a little macaroons sample. Nice "Frenchy" tea room for a relaxed lunch. Coffee was superb, the croques delicious and staff friendly and fast. The only downside, if any, is that the space amplifies sounds easily so it is quickly rather noisy with the music on, people walking in and out and other common things. But other than that, nice place

As a regular customer of this shop, I was disappointed. We were buying macarons, at that moment we wanted to taste the other macarons that were complimentary, we had bought the macaron that we had tasted before, if we had liked the other one, we would have bought it. The lady working there said rudely that you can only taste 1. We went with my mother and she said these things while buying 6 macarons.

I was very excited to try this place as their cakes are so pretty and croissants looked legit. However, I was pretty disappointed at the quality. I ordered a pain au chocolat since what I initially wanted to have was sold out even though it wasn’t that late (10am), and it was not that flaky or buttery, but it was very soggy with the fillings. It didn’t taste fresh AT ALL. Mediocre at its best. I could have let this slide and enjoyed the experience at this cafe if this was the only problem, however, the service was even worse. We were initially seated at a 4 seater table, though we needed to move to another table as they didn’t keep the bigger table for a reservation (they didn’t even know there was a reservation). Not a big deal but I was impressed they weren’t aware of the reservation. Literally I sensed this cafe was a bit off already I saw a staff sweeping all the crumbs off the table in a very rough manner, while wiping the table (I wonder why she didn’t use alcohol spray while another staff did). I thought it was quite unhygienic with all the crumbs on the floor. The same staff spilled our coffee, gave us a glance right after, wiped the glass and served it as if nothing happened. At this point, I felt really uncomfortable and regretted choosing this cafe over others. I was gonna get some macaroons and cookies for souvenirs but I didn’t since I just wanted to leave asap. Also, the interior looked very nice at first but when I looked closely, I realised the wallpapers were coming off at the top and smudges on the walls etc, pretty rough on the edges. The seating space is so small, the tables are all too close together. I do not recommend eating in. Personally this cafe wasn’t great, it looks nice on the outside but it is very disappointing once you’re in it. I don’t understand the hype, but maybe I should have tried the cakes instead?

The cakes at this shop are ok, absolutely no problem with that. However, one of the waitress is a big problem. First, when we were ordering, even though we were queuing first, she didn't serve us and preferred to take orders from other people instead. Additionally, when I was leaving, I left my bag behind. I ran back to ask her if they had seen it, but she said there was nothing in the whole store and told me to look for myself. After that, I couldn't find it and I left. Finally, I asked my friend to make a call. At first, they also said they didn't have it, but another waiter interrupted and said they actually found it. Because of her mistake and lack of sincere assistance, I ended up missing my flight.

I’m a very regular customer and I feel it’s about time I leave a review. The food is excellent, likely the best pastries in the city. The coffee is quite nice, though not exceptional in Brighton, but still very nice in my opinion. I would absolutely recommend getting something from here but I’d also recommend taking it away. The Staff seem to be a little rude. Being a service industry worker myself I can understand it’s not easy to be 100% at all times but every time I’ve gone into JP’s I feel somewhat unwelcome. So if you are planning on going in I’d recommend just taking away and enjoying your pastries on the beach or something. And also that Julian Plumart perhaps hires some extra staff so they have the time to focus on their customer service.

In 2 days I tried 4 types of cake/pastry: la pomponette,le flan à la vanille du Madagascar, Mademoiselle Macaron and raspberries square. As a keen baker, I can spot quality straight away: very well-distinguished flavours, with a distinct vanilla / almond / raspberry flavour deriving from natural ingredients. In most patisseries in the UK the only ingredient I can taste, sadly, is sugar. In all the items I tried chez Julien Plumart sugar is only a secondary ingredient, not overpowering the other flavours that surface and tickle your tastebuds from the very first bite. The staff were very friendly too and allowed us to take our dog in too, which we really appreciated. Chapeau! I recommend particularly la pomponette and le flan à la vanille du Madagascar.

Typical overpriced Brighton cafe, small but OK. We are starting to learn that if you go into a cafe, no matter how small, and they tell you to take a seat and we'll come to you then will find a sneaky service charge added at 12.5% without being asked if you are happy to pay it you are just told the final price. Not good. Food is nice but considerably more (50%) if you sit in (makes a mockery of the adding on a service charge as well) and coffee etc is also more expensive. Only 5 tables and pleasant enough and coffee was OK, nothing amazing. If you want oat or soya milk it's 50p more which is also ridiculous nowadays, just another way of adding to the cost. 1 croissant (ham and cheese) 2 coffees and and an orange juice £20.02, which is somewhat steep.

This is a cute, charming, quaint cafe with excellent coffee although a bit run down. Unfortunately the service was very poor service. There were 4 wait staff members serving 5 tables, yet they were very slow dilly-dallying behind the counter. I would suggest having more tables of two so that they could seat more customers. When one person sits at a table of four, it’s a waste of space especially since people don’t like to share tables with strangers.

Great classic french bistro fare. Menu isn't massive which is good, couple of specials which were tasty. Service was good not overly attentive, just let you get on with your dinner. Really enjoyed our meal.

Really nice and flavourful latte (that didn't just taste like milk) although a little smaller than I had hoped for. I had a nicely flavoured veggie omelet and the salt and pepper mills on the table were a perfect touch for freshly ground pepper!

Came by The French Horn for raclette today but we hadn’t booked. They were really busy but the staff were lovely and rearranged things to make space for us. The raclette was amazing and there were so many delicious veggie options. So much food came with the raclette we couldn’t even finish it. The staff were so friendly, helpful and kind. We will be back for sure.
