The best restaurants serving French food in North West

We visited Bellis whilst in Ambleside and pre booked a table for 8 on a Sunday afternoon. The service and food was fabulous, all 8 had a Sunday roast dinner, the food was plentiful and high quality, drinks were well priced and the staff friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend a visit and return when we are next in Ambleside.

Great food. The Venison and Chorizo Fritter starter was excellent and the Sunday Lunch is the best in the Ribble Valley.

An odd experience. The rooms and common areas are very thread-bare, dated, and sparsely furnished. The restaurant was probably one of the best meals I’ve ever had (53 years). The grounds are quite nice.

It’s a while since we last ate here and we all felt that the food and wine had improved. There were four of us and each ordered something different with no-one disappointed with their choice. The prices are quite high but the Sunday wine deal is a good offer and both the red and white wines on offer were excellent. Will definitely return.

Lovely vibrant restaurant. Very nice food. Pleasant, friendly staff and prompt service. My only complaint would be that I received garden peas instead of mushy peas which was stated in the menu. Small point but I wouldn’t have ordered the fish and chips if I’d known. Other mark deducted would be for small amount of chips. Having said that, would visit again.

The tasting menu was an amazing meal for the price. The food felt "like home", classically French without the fuss and the service was impeccable and warm.

Stayed for 2 nights with my wife. Absolutely amazing location and great hotel, staff were really friendly, had breakfast both mornings and it was perfect. Did a route around stonethwaite Friday afternoon and the hotel was only 15 minute drive from our starting point. Saturday we walked raven cragg & great how, the drive to from hotel to starting point was only 20 minutes. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay, will definitely head back and stay again. Had a great meal here, the food and service were top notch and the price was refreshingly reasonable for such a great place.

Used them twice on Uber Eats, every time there was an issue. First time they sent one breakfast when I'd paid for two. Second time they waited 30 mins then cancelled my order. Don't recommend.

Maybe the best sausage roll I've ever had? Clearly using very high quality ingredients with skill and it shows!
