Chez Jules Restaurant in Cheshire West and Chester

Another 5 star experience at Chez Jules, went with my sister who has never been and she absolutely loved the food (and yes she enjoyed the mash) I had the Pork loin and my sister had the chicken in mushroom sauce from the pre fixe menu, I had the gorgeous tarte au citron and my sister had the frangipane, we both had the mackerel pate starter. Really happy with the service, the check backs and very tasty veg pan as always! Thanks Chez Jules team.

Been here as a solo & couple about six times in the last few years. Usually lunch. Service always top-notch in a city not renowned for it. Food very good indeed and sensibly priced. The prix fixed options are highly recommended. Nice ambience.

We use this restaurant most weeks, it is consistently very good, great value, popular and always busy. I am prompted to post a review in response to the one star review from PLMbrynG, who is entirely entitled to his opinion but is emphatically not entitled to question whether the positive views are genuine. I would suggest that with over 2000 4 and 5 star reviews that it is the 62 reviewers who share his opinion that are the odd ones out.

We can't recommend Chez Jules highly enough. Food, service and ambience - 5*. Our son visiting us from Dublin asked whether we could go to Chez Jules when he was over. He loves Chez Jules as much as we do.

This is a great place. Every member of staff knows what they’re doing and does it well. And they’re nice. The room is switched up every few years. The food is way better than I’d do myself - and I’m a good cook! The drinks - I do love a cocktail - are knockout: The Best Cocktails. Again, better than I’d do myself because, as with everything here, there is fabulous attention to detail, precision and to nuance - just taste and delight. Thoroughly enjoyable and good value.

All starters and desserts are pre-prepared slices of whatever from the fridge. The ‘terrine’ ie patè was served at fridge temperature, with some fancy leaves thrown onto it. The blond waitress - mentioned in many reviews - was a downer. Cheeky, hard faced, not thinking of the customers whatsoever. She lost her temper openly. I could go on and on, but long story short - why is she still working there? I ordered a glass of “champagne” from the paper menu that was handed to us - this one was not on the online menu. I cannot remember the same, but it was £8.99 per glass, the name started with a D. I do not believe this was real champagne. It was served, much like the beaujolais, from the back of the restaurant - no bottle opened or to be seen. The colour of this supposed champagne was slightly orange - which we mostly see with cheap acidic cavas. The bubbles were not behaving like the natural fine bubbles in champagne, that float to the top gently. These were large and aggressive, definitely bottled gas - a cremant de bourgogne or alsace possibly, or even worse, a new world fizz. The main meal was nice, lamb and the usual veg that they serve with everything - but you can get this in any pub in the country, what’s the French spin on this?! Nothing. We decided to go for a dessert and a decent fizz to Piccolino, and they saved our night from the doom and gloom of this night in Chez Jules. Chez Jules is terribly over-rated, but are these reviews genuine? The bad reviews are a more accurate reflection of this poorly run restaurant. We shall not return.

We booked out the top floor of the restaurant one Saturday afternoon for my dad's 80th lunch. We had about 45 people there and fitted in comfortably. It's a nice private space for that number. The food and the service were really good and the staff could not have been more helpful, both in the run up to event and on the day itself. My dad was thrilled with how it went and everyone we invited was very impressed. Can thoroughly recommend them.

We visited this gem of a restaurant for the first time on an early Tuesday evening. The location is easy to find being on a lovely streel close to the north gate. We liked the bustling ambience. The interior is very attractive with an open kitchen and a staircase leading to another beautiful dining room. The service was friendly and attentive ( and so good to see so many staff ). The menu was excellent with a great value set menu which did not compromise on choice or quality. We enjoyed all the 3 courses especially the pork terrine, French onion soup and the delightful sea bass dish. Good choice of deserts and not the boring sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie you see on most other menu's of similar standard restaurants. It seemed as though there were many regular customers which is hardly surprising for this value and quality. Highly recommended.

The food is properly French classic, both looking and tasting great. Sundays is roasts which looked a bit too English so we skipped that and went the following day. The sea bream was cooked wonderfully with a delicious sauce. The chicken was superb and the tarte was so lemony!! The vibe/atmosphere was buzzy and the place was packed both nights downstairs. Another huge, good looking room upstairs apparently shows films on Wednesdays while you dine. Great idea and a shame we weren't staying an extra night. We spotted some things on the first night that we thought we'd like so booked for the next day. They were off the menu that night, but we found equally brilliant alternatives. Oh, and the staff were all lovely, helpful, fast and friendly. Do not leave Chester without trying this place!

Really enjoyed our food here. We were only in Chester for one evening, and chose this place to eat. It was the right choice! Great food and great value for money. Really recommend it!

Fantastic food good service, we had 3 courses all excellent but the lamb shoulder melted in your mouth and the steak was very tender, veg amazing too

Went to celebrate a friend’s birthday and hadn’t been to this restaurant for a few years. Now I wonder why not! The food was so fresh, delicious and great value. The service was friendly and attentive. We definitely won’t leave it that long before we visit again. Back now as one of our favourites!

Staying in Chester for a couple of nights, this restaurant was recommended by a family member. Very popular restaurant with a great vibrant atmosphere & good honest food. We booked on a Tuesday evening which included a full bottle of wine each. Good job we weren’t driving. Definitely worth a visit but make sure you book in advance.

My mother is impossible to please when it comes to dining out in the UK. She admitted this evening this is the only place she will go as she loved the food! Thanks Chez Jules, finally I have somewhere to take her! The food and service were incredible tonight. See you again soon :)

Limited vegetarian choice but what is available is good.

Visited for lunch when staying nearby in our motorhome... service = impeccable food = superb value for money = excellent Only complaint is that it is 60 miles from my house so I can't go more often.

Went for the valentines day menu.3 courses and glass of champagne 39 95.food was amazing. Desert to die for.monica and Ryan gave brilliant service with a big smile.hats off to them for making our evening an enjoyable one.excellent as always

My sister and I had been stopping at a hotel in Chester and had unfortunately had a pretty poor meal on the Friday night at the hotel. We had high hopes for our snack in Chester Town Centre on Saturday whilst shopping only to be disappointed again! (That's another Trip Adviser review) Thank god we had already booked at Chez Jules...from start to finish it was fantastic! Great service, attentive but not rushed or over bearing. Fantastic food, not overpriced and we had a thoroughly fantastic 3 course meal, wine, coffee and liqueurs. We will be booking again when we are in Chester for our next weekend away. Thank you for saving our weekend

Absolute perfection from start to finish. Very busy, pre booked, lovely table on ground floor. Spotless,well staffed. The food was superb, lovely wine, staff, service, ambiance and atmosphere. Would highly recommend and can't wait to return next time we are in Chester.

Superb French themed restaurant with some innovative ideas, excellent food and great service. We used to visit a restaurant with the same food styles, name, branding and decor in Birmingham years ago but this is apparently a one-off. Regardless of that seeing it on Trip Advisor meant we had to try it and the quality and quantity were great. Prix Fixe options before 6pm super value; Tuesday has wine offers; Wednesday eat with film night - seemed to be a lot of old favourites on the list; and a great looking Valentines menu for next month (2024 photo attached). Most mains come with signature potato gratin which is worth the trip on its own

Came for lunch. Disappointed no Moules Frites. Also not told about fixed lunch menu on back of menu. We just had main course and a nice bottle of wine. We had Sea Bass, very small filet, nicely cooked on mash and watercress sauce, and Pork Fillet, tasty with lentil & bacon and apple sauce. Service was quick but not personable.

Quiet Monday night in Chester and I was looking for some hearty pub food but the only ones open were the poor chain pubs, so gave this a try and well pleased with the outcome. Great food, a pot of beef bourguignon with daupinoise potatoes and seasonal veg was just what I needed on a cold winter night. Great service and very reasonably priced (£35 for 1 but I did have a picture of wine, some bread and this included service charge? Highly recommended 👌

My family and I visited here today for my sisters early 28th birthday celebrations. All staff were superb, especially our waitress Aysha who couldn’t do enough for us. She was so friendly, attentive and overall so lovely, making our experience a memorable one! She is a credit to your restaurant. Also, credit to the chefs, the food was absolutely delicious. We will 100% be back, we are already trying to think of a excuse just to come back, definitely recommend!

Arranged a birthday lunch for special birthday celebration. Had a good table as requested and complimentary Prosecco on arrival, followed by absolutely super meal. All was cooked to perfection and wine excellent. Super atmosphere and friendly efficient staff.

Booked a table to celebrate being together for 14 years, we'd had our very first date here ❤ I love Chez Jules at any time, called in with family just before Christmas and as always it was just beautiful. Yesterday's visit was no exception! We weren't stopping for too long as unfortunately other matters more pressing but our visit was just as per the title of my review, 'simply perfect' The Chez Jules team are always exceptional, the young man yesterday (red head - so sorry, didn't grab a name) was just wonderful. Opted for the 2 course Fixe Prixe Sunday lunch, parfait delicious, mackerel Pate equally delicious and the Roast Beef meal... absolutely outstanding! This is how you cook and present a Roast dinner! Absolutely Beautiful! As previously mentioned, we were eating and running so to speak but such a beautiful gesture as per images of a delightful Anniversary wish was presented just as were leaving. Tokens like these are so appreciated as they're not expected, just such a lovely touch ❤ Thank You Chez Jules for such a wonderful meal to celebrate our milestone, it's one to remember ❤ We will be back soon, that's for sure😊

Absolutely amazing experience. Went for lunch and had the best time. Went for the festive lunch menu which had a great selection and was reasonably priced. Service was excellent. Food was amazing. Would certainly recommend and will definitely be going back.

It was my second visit and pleased to say that it was just as nice as my first visit in the summer. We came on 22nd December service was outstanding, great atmosphere and food amazing!!! Can’t wait to visit again and would highly recommend 🥰

Visited for dinner with reservations on a Saturday evening for 2. We are early and ordered our meals fairly quick since the restaurant only had 2 or 3 course meals. But apparently waited for about 40 mins when I realized 2 other couples whom came later than us had their food served first. Server Ula was very helpful to assist to expedite our meals as we were rushing to catch a train. We had to gobble up our food in 30mins. Not sure what caused the delay though. The mains Cod, slow cooked beef, vegetables were brilliant however the creme brûlée tasted bland.

Great atmosphere and delicious food. The staff are truly excellent. Sensible prices on the wines (much better than other restaurants in Chester). 10/10. We’ll be back very soon!

The chefs here are fantastic, and the waiters are patient and courteous. The atmosphere is lively without being rowdy. Every course was beautifully cooked and presented. A decent wine list as well with not too much of a mark-up - which is important. As a result we’ll be back very soon. Thank you Chez Jules. Magnificent.

First time visitor. I was very impressed. The ambience was delightful; friendly and Xmas cosy decor. The food was delightful and the waiters/waitresses were exceptionally efficient but discreetly attentive. Definitely going again.

Despite being the day after Boxing Day, we were able to get a table. The staff are friendly and helpful. The menu being served was the Christmas one, which had plenty of choice including a personal favourite of tartiflette as a starter. The food was well presented and tasty. Typical Franch style.

Fantastic place. Every table was fully booked at lunchtime. We had the festive menu and we didn't have to wait, despite so many people. The food was delicious! Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. Tips: Ensure you book, a lot of people were turned away. If you have a disability, ensure you tell them at booking to ensure you aren't allocated a table upstairs. There are no lifts. There are some steps up to the main door. There is a disabled toilet downstairs.

Christmas get together with friends, appalling waitress service and very rude. Booked for 8-30 but didn't eat until nearly 10pm, no apologies, just disinterested waiting on staff.

An absolute delightful place. Visited as part of my 60th birthday celebrations. The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was out of this world and the staff were the most helpful and happy that they could possibly be. Really had the Christmas vibe off to a 'T'. Will definitely visit again next time in Chester.

Great French restaurant in Chester city centre. The food is always delicious and the restaurant is busy every time I've been there. Had a main (sea bass) which came with a separate dish of veg including potato gratin, red cabbage, carrots and sprouts, all yummy. Pudding was a large profiterole with blackberry filling from the Christmas menu. Looking forward to my return visit!

Our xmas group booking was for 8.30pm, starters arrived 9.35pm. Food was ok, starters were gd, mains not so gd, fish portions tiny, boef bourguinion salty. Hot deserts luke warm, xmas pud lacked fruit. Creme caramel more like scrambled eggs. It was an xmas meal, no xmas crackers, no atmosphere, music too loud.

Food was good, however they have increased the Tuesday night offer yet again, this time from £30 to £36, prices and inflation are coming down so there is no justification for a 20% increase. To rub salt into the wound they have also increased the automatically added service charge from 8.5% to 10% so it's a double whammy price increase Sorry chez Jules but you are taking your customers for mugs

My daughter treated me to a birthday meal here during a trip to Chester. Lovely to be greeted with a glass of fizz and they served my favourite Pernod! Best Sunday lunch we have had in years and fantastic friendly service. We had the 3 course deal and each course tasted great and was beautifully presented. Made even better by friendly service and staff who actually took the time to talk to you. Can't wait to visit again and have already recommended to several friends who are visiting Chester in December.

Very good, French (obviously) themed menu, reasonably priced. It was not surprisingly packed during our Saturday night visit. The food was freshly cooked and very tasty.

Lovely find this restaurant, food great.

Looked great online, disappointing. The prawn starter was a few prawns on a stick, no sauce and just leaves as a side garnish. No seasoning just shoved on a plate. Mussels were chewy and most were closed. Garlic bread was undercooked and wasn’t sure any garlic was near it. Service was below standard, wasn’t even greeted with a hello. Just a what do you want? Wine was nice. Recommend the Rioja. Mains weren’t any better. No seasoning, a pan of cold veg chucked on the table, cold sauce and watery bland risotto. Didn’t bother with desserts. We were crammed in, with waiters bumping us constantly, leading over the back of the booth which was uncomfortable and unprofessional. Give this a miss I’m afraid

Amazing food. The best leek & potato soup I've ever tasted & the pork loin was divine. Service was first class & a really nice atmosphere.

Astonishing. What a fabulous restaurant with top-notch service and food. Sunday lunch was amazing quality and value. Make sure you visit. Update - Have been several times this year and every visit has been fabulous. This is the best restaurant in Cheshire. Love it.
