Quite Simply French in Lancaster

It’s a while since we last ate here and we all felt that the food and wine had improved. There were four of us and each ordered something different with no-one disappointed with their choice. The prices are quite high but the Sunday wine deal is a good offer and both the red and white wines on offer were excellent. Will definitely return.

Outstanding food, great service, and excellent value

The most perfect evening. A very special night as it was the first wine tasting event at QSF. Wonderful dinner and delectable wines made our evening the best we've had for years...anywhere.

Stayed the night with dinner and breakfast. Staff were exemplary, nothing was too much trouble. The menu was excellent, the service attentive but unobtrusive and the quality of the meal was outstanding.

If you’re celebrating something special with special people in your life QSF is the place to go. Opening the menu is genuinely an exciting moment and never disappoints. The service is exceptional. Quite Simply the best !

Lovely ambience,exciting menu and attentive staff.When you go to a restaurant that is expensive you expect everything to be perfect.Our muscles were very small,cold and the sauce was very thin and so salty it was inedible.Staff tried to make up for this offering a free dessert and no charge for the muscles.This does not and cannot make up for the disappointment.This was a very special occasion for our family and a rare treat. I expected the rosti on my gnocchi dish to be crispy,it was soggy.The gnocchi was a very overpriced small main.Wont be going again!

An absolutely fantastic stay. The room was lovely, overlooking the river, and so carefully designed. Food was excellent and the service impeccable and friendly. It really deserves its five stars. Our dog Oscar really enjoyed his stay and his sausage for breakfast.

Fabulous french food in the heart of Lancaster by the canal side. Easy to park right in front of the restaurant. Great atmosphere, food and service!

Exceptional. Halibut for main with bombom scallops was very good. All starters and mains was of the highest standards, perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned. Can’t wait to return.

Best dining experience for miles! Have been dining here for years. Nothing comes remotely close. 5☆☆☆☆☆

I had high expectations for this place, but unfortunately, my experience didn’t quite live up to them. I had dinner there and ordered a variety of dishes: chorizo chipolatas with sausages and bacon, prawns in the shell, fried goat cheese, frog legs, and mussels with chips. To be completely honest, my favorite parts of the meal were the chips, the olivada (olive sauce) that came with the goat cheese, and the mussels' sauce. However, the quality of the ingredients didn't align with the price, and the portion sizes were also a bit disappointing. Of course, if the quality had been better, the price and portion size would have been more reasonable. The prawns were a major letdown. I’m used to fresh seafood, and these prawns were clearly frozen, possibly reheated—they were tough, chewy, and lacked flavor. I’ve honestly never had prawns that bad. I didn’t try the frog legs, but my partner was okay with them. The goat cheese was decent, but I wasn’t fond of it being deep-fried. I also thought the plate could have included more salad or greens to balance it out. The walnuts, too, were too sweet for my taste—almost sugary, without any caramelization. The chipolatas were good for the price. I only had the chorizo, which was tasty, but I really would have appreciated some bread with it—it felt a bit plain without it. I had been excited to try the mussels, but unfortunately, they weren’t the small bouchot mussels I prefer. While the flavor was good, I wasn’t sold on the larger ones they served. The chips that came with the mussels were excellent, and the cheese tartlet was a pleasant surprise. I just wish there had been more chips on the plate. The highlight of the evening was definitely the service and the atmosphere. Though it did get quite busy and there were only two servers, they did their best to keep up. They did forget to ask if we wanted dessert, but I understand how difficult that can be during peak times. The ambiance was relaxed, and the decor was lovely. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll return anytime soon, as food quality is an essential factor for me when dining out, and the meal didn’t meet my expectations. That being said, I might give their Sunday roast a try, as it comes highly recommended.

We have been twice for Sunday lunch and by far the best place we have been to in a very long time. We travel an hour each way but it’s worth it. Wonderful food and very friendly professional staff. We will be going again very soon

Special restaurant with great service and delicious food. We went for Sunday lunch on my birthday - the menu had a range of very lovely sounding dishes, beyond the standard roasts, the cocktail and wine list were extensive. My lobster bisque starter was amazingly tasty, and both the roast sirloin of beef and chicken supreme for main course were delicious. A great experience, will be visiting again very soon.

First time back in over a year tonight. Still really special. They have competition now in Lancaster food wise.But there is no competition when it comes to ambience AND the food tonight was fantastic. A lovely warm welcome as if we were here every week. The restaurant staff are really friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble and they are very attentive to your needs. The food is absolutely delicious, a lovely menu with a wide range of choices.

We visited on a Sunday for the Simply Squiffy deal and were blown away by the food and service. The restaurant is gorgeous inside and it felt like a real treat whilst being excellent value for money. We had scallops and pork to start and steak and beef for mains - would order them all again, but the winner was my pork belly starter. We will be back! Thank you.

The most fabulous romantic place for a couple to eat. Amazing food. Lovely n kind staff, very comfortable surroundings, just a perfect place to eat, drink.

Fabulous room, fabulous food and fabulous service! We enjoyed a stay in The Gillow. The room was very well decorated and exceptionally clean, with thoughtful small touches throughout. The food was also incredible and so creative. We can't wait to visit again! Thank you for a fantastic evening.

We were in Lancaster to celebrate our daughter’s PhD graduation. They accommodated our family during a very busy Christmas season and provided exceptional service. Owner and the servers were delightful! The ambience of the restaurant was beautiful! And the food…delicious and extremely well presented! They even had a wonderful vegan plant based menu separate from their regular menu. The chef has a superb touch with the food entrees without having to over season. Possibly one of the best vegan meal in a restaurant other than my trip to Italy. If we return to Lancaster in the future, we look forward to not only eating at the restaurant again but to stay at one of their gorgeous rooms!! Thank you so much for a memorable experience!!

Went for our Anniversary, the food & drinks were amazing and our server was super friendly & helpful! It's a bit expensive but you absolutely get what you pay for, couldn't recommend more!

Our first time dining here and we must say we were not disappointed. The interior is beautiful. Tastefully decorated with a very relaxing atmosphere. We had the black pudding "Lyonnaise Style" for starters. The combination of flavours and textures are excellent with a perfect poached egg on top. This was followed by the Beef Bourguignon. Cooked again to perfection in a rich sauce with Dauphinoise potatoes. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and available to explain anything on the menu to you. All in all we had a lovely time from start to finish. It may of been our first time here but certainly not our last.

Stayed overnight in a beautiful boutique room while travelling for work. Very nice touches of luxury throughout. Had a delicious breakfast of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs the next morning overlooking birds wading and fishing on the River Lune. The only hiccup was an electrical fault overnight led to a cold shower in the morning. This problem was dealt with quickly, and a generous cash reimbursement was provided without me even asking for it. Very impressed with the rooms, food and service. I'm back in Lancaster next year and will definitely return.

Fabulous. Just stayed for one night en route home. Room was exceptional, wonderful bathroom and super shower. Love all the gadgets and hospitality extras. Would definitely stay again if in Lancaster.

I only came for food and its was DELICOUS , the icecream was sooo good best ive had in a long while, staff were great , overall spectacular place.

We celebrated my 80th birthday with family and friends which was excellent. The ambience in QSF was perfect as was the food. None of our party had been before but will certainly be going again. We went to Quite Simply French for our Anniversary meal - we were not disappointed. We were made to feel welcome and special. The food was excellent - I had a Beef Bourgionne and my wife had a Steak. Service was also excellent. We enjoyed a few drinks as well, and then went home happy - THANK YOU

Had a wonderful start to the weekend with a cheeky early bird at my favourite restaurant. Started with a black forest cocktail following the best muscles I have ever eaten excellent house wine fabulous service and their wonderful ambience. And cheaper on the early birds. Wonderful

On a weekend trip to Lancaster, we chose this restaurant on the basis of its reviews - and we weren't disappointed. On Sunday lunchtime, it was lively without being noisy; we had a lovely spacious table, and the only word for the food is amazing! So often with fine cuisine these days, helpings are tiny, but both the roast beef and the boeuf bourguignon contained copious amounts of top-class beef, cooked to perfection. Vegetables, sauces - everything was in the best tradition of French cooking. Plan ahead if you'd like to try the desserts - sadly we couldn't squeeze one in - maybe another time! Service was friendly and professional - altogether a meal to remember.

Stayed a night with my 2 dogs, such great service and a stunning room, possibly one of the nicest i have stayed in the uk. Highly recommend, nothing to fault!

We stayed regularly but then when we couldn’t stay due to an emergency they still took £178 off us on a technicality without themselves having lost anything. Won’t be staying again.

Was blown away by the food, environment & service. The pork belly, swordfish & house white wine were especially glorious. The staff catered for my dairy intolerance impeccably. Thank you QSF for a very special evening of fun & sensory delight.

Fantastic meal to celebrate my auntie and uncles’ 55th wedding anniversary! We went for the early bird option which proved to be great value and the food was superb! Our server Nathaniel was friendly and efficient, giving us just the right amount of time to order! We had a really lovely evening and highly recommend it, now our second visit and will definitely go again!!

We had an overnight stay in this hotel with dinner & breakfast included in our choice of package. The overall atmosphere of the hotel was divine. The restaurant and room was spotlessly clean. The aesthetic of the room was so cozy and elegant I loved every bit of our stay. The room had We had lobsters for our mains at dinner time but I was surprised its was a 3-course meal(starter-main-pudding). My starter was pork belly where the meat was soft and the overall taste was flavourful. For main, my partner and I had whole lobster parted in half with champagne; the lobster also had fries and a salad. Honestly, I was so happy with my lobster choice, the butter was rich and a bit salty which complemented with its herbs and spices but the meat of the lobster was cooked to perfect as it was very soft. For dessert, I had a choice of sorbet and the 2 scoops of raspberry and passionfruit ice creams just meted my heart away. The following day for breakfast we both had eggs royale where my partner only ate a half of his dish whilst I tried to gobble up all mine as the salmon was so fresh but the eggs where very creamy and its white looked like meringue rather than plainly poached. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel & restaurant.

Once again we visited QSF to celebrate a special occasion with close family friends and we weren’t disappointed. We took advantage of the Early Bird menu offers, so enjoyed good value too. Great table service from Kata from the moment we arrived until we left. Thanks to all at Team QSF for another memorable visit!

Another great meal at QSF, been here multiple times now and never had anything to complain about. The staff are always amazing and this is always the restaurant intake people to when they visit. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone.

We came here on our wedding night and had breakfast for two days and we also ate in the restaurant. The service was exceptional, everyone we spoke to was extremely helpful and a pleasure to be around. The room we stayed in (the ashton) was very modern and chic with all of the modcons and a lovely congratulation plate with cake for our wedding night which was a lovely extra touch. The room was also very clean and easy to access. The food in the restaurant for both breakfast and the evening meal was delicious, a real treat and we will definitely be back for anniversaries and special occasions. It was a little on the pricier side but very reasonable for the exquisite food. Another special touch of a balloon on the table and a comp glass of fizz was also a little extra touch that just made the whole experience that little bit more special. I would recommend it for anyone wanting a treat, specifically couples or special occasions. Again I have to mention the staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay went to plan and how lovely they all were.

Wonderful restaurant. Great ambience delightful staff and service and the most delicious food. We had the charcuterie platter to share. Lovely meats and a very tasty salad. The Boeuf bourguignon was amazing. Steak that we cut with a fork! No room for dessert but great coffees to finish. 10 out of 10!!!

Well don’t really know where to start! Had an exceptional stay at this gem of a place yesterday. Every aspect was a pleasure from the initial contact through to check out. They have achieved an amazing sweet spot of excellent value for money - all the little extras don’t go unnoticed! Loved the design of the rooms (we stayed in the suite) and every aspect has been thought about and the food was delicious- really lovely and a well thought out menu too. Every staff member was lovely and it has a lovely independent feel. Cannot wait to be back!!

First went to QSF in 2017 and it continues to serve some of the best food in the region. Adding 4 bespoke bedrooms has made QSF even better. I can definitely recommend QSF for all occasions.

Stayed four nights dinner bed and breakfast. Very friendly, helpful and attentive staff. Excellent service at and quality of meals. Comfortable well equipped room. Not cheap but for us very good value. Easy parking and a short walk into the town.

I didn't eat here on this occasion as I arrived too late. I just stayed here overnight for a business trip. I loved it! The room was funky, beautiful, comfortable and spacious. Fabulous bed, amazing shower, perfect air con system (a Nest - it was all very high tech), a Nespresso machine. I had to leave at 7.15 and was disappointed that breakfast was not going to have started by that time, but the lovely guy who checked me in found some cheese and biscuits for me to take in the taxi with me! All in all, a lovely stay. Would definitely recommend. And last time I came here I had dinner which was fantastic!!

It is always a first-class experience at QSF, but our dinner last evening surpassed any of our previous visits. Robert and his team keep the restaurant looking wonderful, and Luke and his kitchen team produce the very best food. I went for my birthday celebration with my daughter, and as always, it was staggeringly good.

Booked a table for my partners birthday. Was blown away by the little booth to sit in decorated with balloons and shot of champagne on the house. Plus sparkler with desert. The waiting staff were excellent made us feel special. Food excellent lobster, steak, muscles,oysters and trio of desert all cooked to perfection very fine dining style. Compliments to all the chefs. A special occasion made even more special by this venue , recommended a visit to experience a memorable experience. ✨️

The food used to be so good here. Not any longer. Small portions at a ridiculous price. Also very very small Sunday roast dinners. Staff nowhere near as nice as they used to be. Much better restaurants!!

I have been coming to QSF for almost 20 years, for Dinner in the evening and the occasional stay over, and also for many Sunday Roast Dinners. Rob, Lowra and the team are so accomodating, and the service and attention to detail is always exceptional. Great menu choice and wine list in the evenings and his Sunday Roast Beef is awesome. When I am visiting Lancaster with my Mother she would be devastated if i took her anywhere else. I cannot recomend this Restaurant enough... superb !!

The food was good, but don’t get the prawns. They were pretty awful.

Ate at the restaurant. Great service, very helpful and accommodating as they put us on a ground floor table with disabled toilet access. The food was fantastic as well, all 3 courses were delicious.

Once again i am very happy with my service and food from your restaurant, everything about this place is spot on, the atmosphere is very relaxing and warming, the staff are very welcoming and polite, and the food is delicious. A real treat to be able to go to arguably one of Lancaster's finest restaurants. It's a beautiful venue in a gorgeous location, the food is sublime, the waiting staff are friendly and accommodating and it's an absolute joy to visit. They even laid on a balloon, table confetti and a sparkler for my daughter's birthday.

First visit to QSF since my 60th birthday meal in October.Not disappointed!.Same high standards from Rob and his young team.Not even Rob playing with the fire alarm could put us off!!We had the sausage,chorizos and asparagus as starters.First class presentation and quality.Followed by the beef casserole and Guinea Fowl with dauphonois pots.A real culinary treat for a Tuesday evening in Lancaster!No room for puds but great espresso with cognac.A thoroughly enjoyable occasion.Will need to book soon for a follow up looking at the reservation website availability in the coming weeks.Rob mentioned he had two no shows the previous evening costing him financial pain and disappointment to would be diners trying to get a prized table!!With Rob sending both email and text reminders to punters this behaviour really is inexcusable.Keep up the good work Rob.Dave

We were really disappointed we are still in lockdown as this time last year we went here for a meal for my partner's birthday treat as we do most years. We ordered from the takeaway menu and was really impressed with the quality of the food. Just a shame we didn't have the lovely staff to serve it to us.Would highly recommend it. We both had the tartiflette which was chicken, bacon, mushroom, and potato in a cheese sauce with herb crust to start that was so tasty. Then I had the lamb that was so tender it just fell off the bone and I always love the dauphinoise potatoes and the roasted veg and my partner had the lobster. We both finished off with the sticky toffee pudding which was so yummy. Mmmmm. We even had two little chocolate-type truffles for after with coffee. Very impressed with it all. Can't wait for when it reopens again and we can go for the squiffy menu.

I've avoided QSF for many years. A couple of visits many moons ago where I ended up with food that was so over-salted as to be almost inedible left a (literal) bad taste in my mouth. Similar observations from friends over the years tended to reinforce that those initial impressions.Wind the clock forward and after a year of on-and-off lockdown my tastebuds were craving something new. So it was with trepidation I decided to give their take-away menu a whirl.The order for my partner and I was halloumi fries, pork belly starter, pork loin steak, lamb shank and Dauphinoise potatoes.Delivery to the boot of my car was quick and painless. On unwrapping I wqs impressed with the portion size....no-one was going hungry that night!. The halloumi fries were perfect, though a little more garlicky kick in the aioli would have been appreciated. The pork belly with supposedly crispy crackling was almost large enough to be a main course. The pork was nicely cooked, though I think that a stronger flavour pork was needed to stand out against the puy lentil casoulet. Perhaps wild boar or dial back on the lentils? The crispy crackling wasn't and was much closer to something that originated in Fort Dunlop, unfortunately.The mains were superb. My partner had the huge pork loin steak on a bed of savoy cabbage. It really was a lovely dish. My lamb shank was cooked to perfection and was everything that you could ask for from slow-cooked meat. Rich, decadent, unctuous with a wonderful mouth feel. Terrific! Finally, the potato Daupinoise was also superb.Overall I was impressed with the flavours, presentation, quantity and overall experience. A little tweak with the starters and this would easily have been a 5 star review. Finally, it looks like a good effort has been made to make sure the packaging materials are recyclable. Well done on that point!

Had a fantastic takaway meal for valentine's night. Food was really nice. Well packaged and arrive hot.

It’s not the same as being in the restaurant, but our take-away experience was excellent. Efficient collection- the owner, Rob, placed the sturdily wrapped dishes in my car boot at the appointed time, and the food was piping hot on arrival at home. Moroccan crab fishcakes were substantial and tasty, with subtle spices. The bouillabaisse was a hearty and toothsome fish stew, containing great chunks of salmon and white fish, mussels and a large prawn. The broth in itself was quite delicious. No room for a dessert, although the little chocolate bombs went down well! Thank you QSF for staying open for us- something lovely to look forward to and to experience, whilst we’re in lockdown.

Each year we like to start our Christmas celebrations by going to QSF on Christmas Eve, but sadly the local Tier 3 restrictions meant that we were unable to do so this year. So we ordered a take-away - and we were absolutely delighted with it! Picking the meal up at the restaurant was easy-peasy, and the food was all warm and secure in sturdy cardboard boxes.. A mixed charcuterie starter, main courses of beef brisket and duck and a clatter of mince pies to finish with - all uniformly excellent and stunning value for money. We couldn't fault it! Thanks, QSF, for starting off our lock-down Christmas so well!

As we are in tier 3 and there is no where to go we decided to book takeaway to collect from QSF. It was beautiful.It was placed in the boot of the car and we drove sedately all the way home.We were not disappointed with the food. It was everything I have come to expect from QSF. So tasty. My mouth is still watering from the lovely food.What a treat for a Thursday. So happy we tried this. We definitely recommend this if you are unable to book in due to Covid restrictions.Thank you QSF

Treated ourselves to a wonderful Sunday lunch by click and collect. The meal was perfect, excellent tender roast sirloin of beef with the trimmings. All made even more special by the brilliant service. Hoping you'll be able to open properly again soon, but we will be ordering again soon.

As we are in lockdown we decided to book a takeaway and was not disappointed with either the cost or the quality. I had the Duck and my wife had the chicken, both of which were cooked to perfection. We also both had the cheesecake which as expected was lovely. All in all a lovely meal well packaged, we will definitely be ordering again.

We stayed in one of the QSF gorgeous rooms to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We also opted to dine in the restaurant on the evening of our special day and were not disappointed! Lovely food, lovely wine, lovely atmosphere and fantastic service. The best meal we have had in the UK for a number of years. What more can I say? We will be back when we are in the area for sure.

I’m really pleased to say that my wife and I have just finished a wonderful Sunday Lunch courtesy of QSF as part of their book and collect service under Covid rules. It’s always great to be able to support our local businesses but this came without any downside.The whole arrangement worked a treat, the food was super - very tasty and plenty of it. Certainly would recommend others to use this service in these difficult times.
