Had a lovely meal. Quiet as we were early.

Excellent meal, duck and noodles with a,chilli sauce.

Our favourite restaurant in Formby-old time charm, friendly personal service, unhurried atmosphere, amazing food, and reasonable prices. They have just updated the menu to include more vegan and vegetarian options- perfect!

Great food, really friendly staff, plenty of variety in menu. First class. Would definitely recommend for a really enjoyable evening giving great value.

Bistro Moulin is our favourite restaurant in Formby, the cooking is excellent and the ambience is warm and very welcoming. A new menu has been introduced with a great choice including a wide range of vegetarian options. We saw the menu, and were not disappointed in our meal. The wines are reasonably priced and good quality. We’ll be back soon. We weren’t rushed in the meal, arrived at 7pm, left just before 10.

Visited on a Tuesday evening with a friend. We were hosted by the owner who was warm, friendly and really attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. I had chicken and my friend had the duck. Both were tasty, cooked to perfection and hot! Good hot! The sides were of a good size and equally as tasty. Definitely recommended! Will be back!

Great chef and great atmosphere and service

We came yesterday evening for new year's Eve and had a lovely three course meal and a good choice on the menu all reasonably priced at eighty pound for two meals plus drinks. The restaurant was nicely decorated for Christmas and the service was very good and friendly Hope to be back soon

Nothing to fault. We used to frequent this place regularly before a spell overseas. Now re-established as a firm favourite. 👍

Last Saturday we had an 80th birthday celebration for my husband Harry. There were twenty five family and friends invited for a two course meal with wine, and the group consisted of young and old people. All I can say is that it was a perfect evening: the food was lovely, the atmosphere was great, and we had lots of fun. Later in the evening, we sat on the terrace and enjoyed live music and a singalong by family members. Everyone said it was a fabulous night, so Thankyou Bistro Moulin for ensuring we had a party to remember

Literally no French food at all on menu very basic good over cooked expected so much but very very bland. Nice little restraunt clean and tidy but very boring menu and over priced Expected so much but bland

Not just the finest restaurant in Formby but the best in the area. The food was divine. Exceptional service, friendly and informal. Great value, too. Formby is very lucky to have a restaurant of this standard. Wish we lived nearer or we would be here every week. However definitely will recommend it to our family and friends in the wider area. Absolutely amazing first experience at this lovely little restaurant. As we live locally, I really don't know why we hadn't been before. We had a very warm and pleasant welcome, were looked after throughout the evening and the food was delicious. Will certainly recommend it and look forward to eating there again.

An exceptionally nice bistro. First time visit with my wife and could not fault it. Spotlessly clean, welcomed by a friendly host. Two menus to choose from, one a special for two people which looked good value but we decided to go from the main menu. It couldn't have been better, ordered steaks and they were cooked exactly as we requested. The vegetables were also good, fresh and freshly cooked. The creme brulé sweet was exceptional. Prices were reasonable, and on a par with mid range restaurants. Oh, and the background music was not intrusive and easy listening. Yes, we will most definitely be making a return visit.

Have visited twice in recent weeks.Food was excellent as was the service.This restaurant is too good to lose but attendance on the second occasion was extremely poor.It deserves our support

Lovely restaurant with very friendly staff The food was really nice I had Stilton salad that was scrummy and we both had the chicken. The chicken was really nicely cooked and the veg sides were excellent The Creme brûlée was spot on and my hubby had sticky toffee pudding which he said was gorgeous We finished with coffees and port Lovely evening Bill was very reasonable

Visited last night with my husband, we had such a lovely evening. The restaurant is cosy, candlelit and well appointed, the staff are really welcoming and the food was delicious, my husband said it was the best meal he’s had for ages and he’s hard to please - you have such a talented chef! 👏🏽👏🏽 Thank you so much, we are looking forward to coming back 😁

Empty at 6:00 pm midweek but warmly welcomed and chose grilled king prawns with chorizo as a starter and calves' liver as a main. Delicious. Cheaper option of 2 courses for under £20 available.

Visited here with my grandparents last weekend. Exceeded my expectations great food, relaxed atmosphere and very friendly waiting staff would recommend and will return. Creme brûlée is a must!

We arrived at the Sparrowhawk having been disappointed with a setting of the meal we had originally booked close by. They fitting us into their beautiful marquee with lighting without a fuss. Service and meal was beautiful with every course well presented tasted fantastic and reasonably priced. The setting is stunning and we throughly enjoyed everyone else around us enjoying the same !!! Can’t recommend enough.For those with children there is an outside area with swings and tractor loads space . Well done all staff are great So hope you recover from this terrible year we will be back

First time here tonight, very attentive friendly staff couldn't do enough for you. Olives, Chorizo King Prawns were Stunning and presented Michelin* and just enough portion, Lamb and Duck mains were again presented lovely and cooked to perfection , House Red was good .. Atmosphere was very relaxed with nice music, Sat in bar area after to finish with a drink and cheese board... met the chefs who were friendly and appreciative of Praise.. all round lovely night there, we will defo be back

Four evenings ago we ordered a takeaway meal for my birthday from this restaurant. We have eaten there several times in the past and enjoyed the meal. This meal, however, was really disappointing. Two of us ordered the king prawns (which were good) for a starter but no salad was provided as stated on the menu. All three of us ordered the stuffed chicken breast as our main meal. The meat was dry and the only vegetables were 5 potatoes and a few carrots between all three of us. Halfway through our main meal, we were contacted to say that they had forgotten to provide more vegetables. As it was a birthday meal, and the restaurant still had no driver available, my husband very reluctantly collected more but even then it was only three more potatoes and some red cabbage. When we had previously eaten at the restaurant, we had always had at least three vegetables plus potatoes, so I felt the takeaway was poor. In addition, we were given the missing salad but we had already eaten the starters. We had paid the full restaurant price, not a reduced takeaway price. The next morning I emailed them suggesting that in these difficult times (CV19 easing) they needed to do better if they wanted to encourage people to return to using their restaurant. I had no response. I will not be going to this restaurant again

Went to bistro moulin on Saturday to celebrate Geoff's 50th birthday. There was 14 people in our party, and everyone agreed that the food and service was absolutely first class. Would recommend it to anyone whether going in group or just for a quite meal, great food great service .

Four of us visited this restaurant which was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday night. We studied the menus whilst nibbling on some free gratis bread and dip and decided to go for the two course special which was good value as it included a bottle of wine in the price. Starters were a decent but not outstanding pate, an enjoyably gruyere based salad, nicely spiced tubes of calamari albeit a bit rubbery but in fairness the norm unless sliced and breadcrumbed.and my own dish of meatballs which were a bit dry and under spiced. (In fact this was a second attempt as the first offering had to be sent back for being burnt and could have been called a meat ball bearing it was that hard. Mains were a tender and tasty suckling pig, a duck on a tasty noodle base although the skin on it was still a few minutes cooking away from being properly crispy and for the couple accompanying us the bouillabaisse. Having regularly visited the south of France, they could be described as bouillabaisse buffs and unfortunately declared the dish as watery, underspiced and high on a tasteless white fish and low in crustacean content. Our one dessert was a fairly decent Eton Mess. incidentally, the service was brilliant and it's a pity the food never reached the same heights.

Our monthly meeting was attended by a dozen or so. All had very nice meals. Good selection. Staff very friendly. Only niggle is that it doesn’t serve draft beer nor offer craft ale in bottles. Apart from that no complaints.

I really don’t know why we haven’t been to this restaurant before, instead of driving past I would definitely recommend you call in .The service is perfect and the food is Fantastic.I think this is the best restaurant in Formby by a long way.Many more visits now planned for us.

A group of ten enjoyed a lovely meal last night for my neighbour's 80th.Every one of us enjoyed our meal and the chef excelled in doing so many different choices and getting them all served together on nice hot plates.I had stuffed mushroom starter, followed by cod wrapped in Parma ham with a pea purée- I could not fault it.We had a really lovely time with lots of wine and laughter (some even enjoyed some song and dance!)The service was excellent and the atmosphere so welcoming and homely.Thank you Bistro Moulin for making Irene's big birthday such a happy one.

This is a welcoming place to visit with a pleasant bar/ waiting area and friendly staff, nice seating and warm atmosphere. During our visit we found the starters disappointing. The home made Pate' was very much like shop bought and was served with a very hard toasted slice of bread and this was much the same for most of the other starters, nothing outstanding. Mains were much better but vegetable portions somewhat small and the Dauphoise Potatoes were not good at all, dry and lacking flavour. I left feeling disappointed as I had anticipated the same quality I had found in other french restaurants.

I was taken here for a special birthday meal by a close friend. The food was excellent. We had 2 courses and a bottle of wine. The food was excellent, well cooked and well presented. The young lady who served us was polite and helpful with a lovely cheery manner.If you are in the area do go and try it but it is also worth travelling to- we drove around 20 minutes to get there.Roger M

Well, we had a booking for 7.30 and arrived early. We had a drink and another before our orders were taken. It was a very long evening with friendly but very slow service. Three quarters of the food was lovely. One quarter was ok. Staff were really good but somehow it was inefficient. The taxi they ordered didn’t arrive so the lovely waitress took us home. I’d go again with different expectations.

Visited for the first time, but left feeling hardly impressed.

I came here for the third time and the food was again fantastic. I had duck spring rolls and the suckling pig, I wish I could have fit a dessert in but I was full. Service was great and very good value mid-week.

Visited Bistro Moulin for our Wedding Anniversary, we both selected from the Wine and Dine menu.

Lovely food and atmosphere, we always enjoy it here. Starters were very nice, I had soup of the day and my husband had the pate. For the mains my husband had the beef and I had the chicken. Both as equally gorgeous.

First visit, and very impressed at both the service and food. Lovely cosy place with a good atmosphere, will definitely go again.

Any one who enjoys well cooked, well presented food then come and give this a go, we live quite a way from here and decided to have a drive out. We went here on a whim, didn't know what cuisine we wanted so decided French. We were not disappointed. I had the hake and my hubby had the duck, both beautifully cooked and had the most amazing flavoured sauces. The creme brulee was out of this world. Definely worth a look!!

Seems to be in decline. Had no Sardines (reason I went there) and also the fish stew looked nothing like its picture with normal prawns instead of king prawns or langustine. Hope it comes back and improves.

Good value early evening menu, with starter and main under £16 Excellent service throughout our meal. Had chicken wings, then Suckling Pig which was especially tasty. Will be returning soon

I came here last weekend with my husband and we had a wonderful meal. It was our first visit and we were greeted by friendly staff who took us to our seats. We ordered some drinks and had a look at the menu. It all sounded so delicious I struggled to choose what I wanted! In the end I went for halloumi fingers to start and suckling pig as my main. My husband had chicken wings to start and sirloin steak for his main. The food came quickly, it was well presented and really tasty. The portion sizes were filling but we squeezed in a dessert (being greedy). It was such good value for money we were very pleased. The restaurant itself is clean and has a cosy, homely atmosphere. One criticism is although the waitresses came over to ask how our food was, they didn't come to ask us if we needed more drinks and we had to call someone over when we wanted to order more on 2 occasions. This aside, I would highly recommend Bistro Moulin and look forward to trying more of the menu myself.

Always have a excellent meal when I come which is usually every 4to 6 weeks.very good varied menu Nice cosy decor and friendly staff they do a very good 2 course early bird menu before6.30 .

Came here a big group of us quite a lot of the group come here regular. Iv been here twice now about a year apart . No draft beer which is abit disappointing. Food good considering there was about 30 of us came out table by table which was good . Would just like the menu to change as I don’t think it ever has or for a long time anyway gets abit boring

Driven past this little gem a few times; decided to try it the Saturday before Christmas. The welcome good, the ambience excellent and the food amazing; we will be returning next week. Without a doubt the best place to eat for miles - ten out of ten

Went for Xmas dinner, extremely friendly and food was amazing

Went to the BM for an early evening meal for a little treat and we were the only ones there at the time although there were bookings for later given the table layouts. Our starters, one of pâté and one of mackerel fish cakes were very nice and we both had the Brie stuffed chicken breast for mains and again this was very nice. We only had coffee afterwards rather than a dessert. This was the second time we’d been and we also enjoyed the first time too so it certainly won’t be the last time and I expect we’ll be going back sooner rather than later. Staff were also very welcoming and made sure we were enjoying our meal. Overall I would certainly recommend this restaurant.

Myself and two friends chose to come here as we haven’t been for years. We all left impressed and would return! We had pate or duck spring rolls for starters...both lovely. The waitress was friendly....had to remind her for Prosecco glasses but minor issue.

First and last time we will visit this restaurant ! Such a shame as we live locally and would like to support it but based on this experience sadly that won’t be happening. Food was very average with a medium to well done steak cooked bone dry. Mentioned this to the waitress, which would probably explain the chef’s later actions. We ordered Eton mess as a dessert which was basically 95% meringue and 5% fruit sauce. We asked the waitress for some ice cream and she said that would be no problem. Some 5 minutes later she brought back the “Eton mess” with less meringue and a thimble full (at best) of ice cream - which was clearly a message from the disgruntled chef of “ **** you” As previously mentioned it’s such a shame as we eat out on a regular basis but won’t be recommending or supporting this restaurant

Why have I not been to this restaurant before? Seriously good food, good wine and great service. Good choice of menu, something for everyone.

We went to this bistro last Saturday night and it was very busy, ( glad we had booked)

We live local and had heard mixed reviews about this place. We decided to give it a go for convenience and the fact that they could offer a vegetarian option. The staff were lovely and very attentive and the food was exceptionally quick to arrive. I had halloumi fingers with a red onion marmalade to start, which were edible but lacked flavour. My husband had mackerel fishcakes which were over cooked and appeared to be reheated. He had the slow braised beef in red wine for mains. The meat was not tender and he felt like he was eating something from a tin. The food was not cooked in authentic French style and was not worth the money.

Our 2nd visit to Bistro Moulin. As before, nice atmosphere and good food.

My wife treated me to a meal here last night and was blown away by the whole experience. Great attention to detail and care shown by the serving staff, delicious starters and mains. I had the calimari and my better half had the pâté, both of which were delicious and perfectly presented. Followed up by sea bass for m and roast pork for the better half, every mouthful was a delight. Perfectly seasoned and good sized portions, I had a bit of my wife's pork and it was mouth-wateringly good. The crackling was also cooked to perfection and the crème brûlée at the end was a delight. Will be coming back very soon!

Went here with a friend on a Friday night the restaurant was really busy we hadn't booked but they did manage to get us in , the food is really nice plenty of choice on the menu and also a specials board , the service also spot on fast and prompt but without the rush , I will without doubt be calling here again

We had an great meal here, the menu has a realistic number of choices for a small restaurant. The service was excellent and the food tasty and well cooked. The decor could do with a little work, but that doesn’t detract much from the excellent value this venue represents.

Visited this restaurant last night with two friends, have been several times before and always been happy, so chose this for our Christmas get together, We may as well have gone to MacDonald's as there was a party with two children one of which was approx 11 months did not stop crying, I am not against children in restaurants but I believe there should be a time limit as this went on till 10,15 pm then peace.

This was our first visit to this very relaxed French style restaurant. The welcome and the service were very good...

Not been in here since it opened. I have to say it has improved vastly. The menu is quite varied and imaginative. I had mackerel fish cakes to start and suckling pig as a main. I can totally recomend both dishes. It was very quiet with only one other table eating but it was Sunday night. Also the resturant is a little off the beaten path of the central shops etc. Everyone at our table was very pleased with there meals. Decent selection of bottler beers and wines. There is a small amount of parking outside and a couple of tables if the weather allowed. Service was very friendly and attentive and prices were really good value for money. It's not fine French dining but it was very good quality and I do recommend it and will be returning soon.

Visited with friends. The restaurant was fully booked but the owner managed to accommodate us at 9. Efficient service and friendly owner, combined with fresh food and selected menu - would highly recommend.

Went tonight early as grandson has homework ! small family meal to celebrate wifes 70th birthday .food stunning , service friendly and wecoming . Reluctant to tell too many people in case we cant get booked in future ! At

The set menu here is excellent value for the quality of the food. My starter of Wensleydale and Cranberry salad was absolutely delicious. My one dilemma was that, on the day we visited, for some reason the set menu main courses, all bar one, had mushrooms in them in one way or another ! Unfortunately I cannot stand mushrooms - so I had no choice but to plump for the "suckling pig" ( which just tasted like normal pork)! Now I know I had the option to choose something off the al a carte menu - but as I wasn't paying, and everyone else chose off the set menu, I felt I could not go off piste ! The food was lovely and beautifully presented and everyone absolutely enjoyed their food. I could well have given five stars if it wasn't for mushroom-gate, and having to have pork, which is never a favourite of mine!
