Pioneer Bar and Brasserie in Sefton

Nice food nice beer at decent prices but the last few times I've been it's been very quiet and lacking in atmosphere especially midweek.

7 of us came for dinner yesterday. We had a great time, the food was good and the staff was very friendly, very clean 👌

I had my baby shower here a few weeks ago and have only just got round to leaving a review. We had a massive party of people and received the best service we could have wished for. It seems to be under new management and I couldn't speak more highly of the staff and fantastic service we received. The food was amazing we all said we would come back for more! Drinks flowing all day, no service issues it was just perfect for my special day. Can't thank the team at Pioneer enough for making it such an amazing day! Can't wait to return!

Staff are great and food was very nice

Visited the pioneer a few times now and never been disappointed. Decent deals on different days of the week. Nice relaxed atmosphere and can dine in or outside weather permitting.

I rang to check if Sunday roast was still being served but the call went to answerphone, however, a few minutes later I was called back and received confirmation of the roast and availability to dine. We were shown to a table and ordered drinks which arrived quickly. There was a short wait for our food, but I took that as a positive as it was obviously being freshly prepared. We both had beef roast and it was lovely - several slices of succulent beef, four roast potatoes, broccoli, creamed carrot & swede, huge crispy Yorkshire pudding, a stuffing ball and jug of gravy each. I asked for mustard and was given the option of either English or French. Staff were attentive (the gentleman I had spoken to on the phone came to say hello), checking our food was ok and serving more drinks. All in all a pleasant experience.

Not the best experience...Sunday lunch overcooked beef roast potato's hard no horseradish or mustard & calamari starter was invisible. Informed staff who said sorry. Will not return which is a shame its local but staff didn't care.....

Always brilliant food and reasonably priced . Lots of options from small plates to meals .Great kids menu too. Always friendly service,

What a change the new owners have made to the Pioneer!! - All refreshed and immaculate, walked in at lunch time and approached immediately by smiling staff (Olly), who sorted out a clean table, asked if we needed any drinks and handed out menu's. The food was reasonable but the quality was that of a much more expensive restaurant. Freshly prepared and cooked so if you want instant food go to McD's or similar!! Very attentive but not intrusive staff couldn't do enough for you and when asked for something slightly different we were accommodated without question. Definitely too good to miss and I wished I lived a little closer to this place as I would definitely be there more often! UPDATE 4th April 2024 Had yet another great lunch meeting at the pioneer, the food is amazing so this time I had the 3 plates for £14. Take a look at the addition pictures of the ribs and my favourite Garlic Mushrooms then a small fish, chips and peas. The food quality is excellent and the quantity leaves you extremely satisfied. I’m amazed that there isn’t a queue to get in here!

Had my mums 70th birthday upstairs in the function room last night 24 th November, opted for a 2 course sit down meal for 29 pple and then music played through their system from a play list we provided. The whole night was AMAZING everyone enjoyed it, the food was lovely atmosphere amazing nothing was too much trouble.. Can I just give a special THANKS to CHARLOTTE and the rest of the pioneer team from the girls/boys on the bar and all the kitchen staff you were fab everyone had an amazing night once again thank you xxx

Delicious breakfast with a lovely caramel latte and ice cold orange juice with ice. Can’t recommend enough!

Took my future wife here and we both loved it here amazing food and amazing service and great atmosphere and tasty food and tasty drinks the restaurant food cooked and presented to perfection can't wait to go back again soon and will be a regular and they have local music also and a great size room upstairs for rental for private parties to

Great night tonight celebrating husbands 70th birthday everyone had a fabulous time staff were great thank you all at the pioneer food was great.

This is fast becoming our go-to restaurant, the atmosphere, service and especially the food is excellent. Today I picked garlic mushrooms, in other restaurants your lucky to get a couple of mushrooms, the portion was excellent and so nice, I would say I’ve paid way more for significantly less and the quality was 5⭐️. Main course was the best Spaghetti Carbonara, I don’t think I’ve had better outside of Italy!! The food was served quickly by friendly staff, steaming hot, perfect! Well worth a visit at any time of the day, I went for lunch.

I'd booked my daughter's 18th birthday at one of this venue's function rooms. We agreed on the party running from 18:00 to 00:00 with an option to bring our own food. Majority of the attendees were under 18. The party was going well until about 23:20 when my daughter was informed that the bar is going to close early (by about 40 minutes) and that they have to leave the venue. The kids quickly collected some of the food, some of it they threw away since they didn't have anything to pack it with. They were forced to wait outside in a cold, rainy weather until their unaware parents came closer to midnight. It was only after one of the angry moms arrived early to collect her child and knocked on the bar door that they offered to bring the children back inside. Around 23 40 I arrived with some boxes to collect the leftovers and tips for the waiters and was shocked after I realised what had happened. I don't understand the waiters' behaviour, they closed the bar early because there wasn't any guests in other parts of the building and my daughter had been kicked out. On Monday after the party I spoke to the bar owner. She was very unprofessional. She didn't see anything wrong in the way the waiters acted. Her excuse was that we paid very little for the hire of the venue, but in fact I paid the full amount. During the entire conversation she kept saying that they did us a huge favour because we paid too little and brought our own food, which was all pre-agreed with the manager. I didn't however receive an explanation as to why the waiters did what they did and no refund was offered. I did receive an apology. During the conversation the manager was there as well and while stroking his hair she said that he is not a manager of the venue.

Since pioneer has been under new management it has become one of the best place for me and my family to come out for food all the staff are just lovely and the service is fab and very welcoming just love coming here and no as expensive as I thought it was going to be just live. It her if if love good serves and even better food this is the place to come

Came here with a friend and had 3 small plates each and it was delicious. Waitress Ada very helpful and nothing too much trouble. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely place to enjoy a cool drink and some food, served with a smile. A nice area inside but even nicer outside with high tables to enjoy your drink / food in the sun. They have a good selection of cocktails and appetisers.

We popped in looking for something to drink and for a catch up. What a fantastic place with great service, friendly manors and quality food and drinks. A brilliant outside area to enjoy the sun which is also clean and tidy. We recommend this bar if you are visiting or in the Crosby area in Liverpool

Came to this bar before Christmas and was not that impressed to be honest, but driving past and seen the ‘New Owner’ signs and thought I’d give it another try. What an absolutely amazing difference, the place was really fresh and clean, met instantly by smiling staff who really looked after me and my friend (Oly). Food is amazing quality and not a expensive in the slightest for the quality, I eat in a number of places and this one is without doubt as good, if not better, than some really big names!!

Called in for a glass of fizz with friends. Thought £26.50 was a bit steep for a bottle of prosecco 😕 Won't necessarily be rushing back.

I had a not so great experience here the first time I came but decided to give it another go. It was such a terrible experience. Management are rude and do not care about complaints they have blinkers to their service and complaints !

Been a regular at pioneer for many many years always enjoyable and lovely staff welcoming u in had a lovely Sunday lunch with the family today shoutout to the 2 chefs Harry and toni who cooked are Sunday dinner I’m celebrating my 30th birthday in 4 weeks time and I can’t wait as my friends 30th was here and was filled with a great atmosphere and amazing service! Came here with 8 members of the family for afternoon tea on mothers day, £35 per person for a tiny tray of food and one cup of tea. Was told there would be a singer but all we got was music playing from an iPhone. One of the girls gave each of us a glass of preseco after we complained about not getting what we paid for, then after the bill came they decided to charge us for the glass of preseco. Will never come here again.

Visited here with family for Mother’s Day, food was absolutely delicious, 2 courses for 26.95, cheap considering the size of the portions! They also had two singers on later that afternoon who were fantastic, really got the crowd going!! Can’t wait to come back, thanks Pioneer!!

Booked afternoon tea for 8 ppl for Mother’s Day! Singer that was advertised didn’t happen sat for 2 hours before we had to asks what was happening, told he had technical issues and couldn’t stay. It was £35 each and you got one tray between 3 ppl with one cup of tea! Nothing special at all, just sat in a room with an iPhone playing music! Stressful atmosphere and poorly organised. Total waste of money and waste of Mother’s Day!!

Appalling service….. reservation made weeks in advance and cancelled days before the booking. So upset will never use again.

Soon as we arrived was told I had not paid deposit (I did) or left phone number for them to contact me an so our afternoon tea will be a wait of around 30 mins. we had to ask for tea and drinks as no one come over for a while. Had to get my online banking up to prove we paid a deposit, the butties were basic - cucumber, salmon , egg Mayo, the brownies were choc orange and no one likes that on our table. They also didn’t take the deposit of the bill so had to get it changed, Overall wasn’t a pleasant experience at all and I won’t be rushing back as the staff seemed quite snotty aswell apart from a very young girl who was lovely

Had my daughter’s 21st birthday party here last night. Everyone enjoyed themselves and commented on how lovely the food was. The staff were amazing right throughout. Very relaxing for me, which was lovely. Can’t recommend this venue enough.

Went to pioneer yesterday 22 July orderd chicken and bacon sandwich all the toast was burnt chicken and bacon over cooked ( hard) it was discussing staff were lovely but not enough of them waited 45 minutes for this meal wont b going again .
