This is fast becoming our go-to restaurant, the atmosphere, service and especially the food is excellent. Today I picked garlic mushrooms, in other restaurants your lucky to get a couple of mushrooms, the portion was excellent and so nice, I would say I’ve paid way more for significantly less and the quality was 5⭐️. Main course was the best Spaghetti Carbonara, I don’t think I’ve had better outside of Italy!! The food was served quickly by friendly staff, steaming hot, perfect! Well worth a visit at any time of the day, I went for lunch.

I'd booked my daughter's 18th birthday at one of this venue's function rooms. We agreed on the party running from 18:00 to 00:00 with an option to bring our own food. Majority of the attendees were under 18. The party was going well until about 23:20 when my daughter was informed that the bar is going to close early (by about 40 minutes) and that they have to leave the venue. The kids quickly collected some of the food, some of it they threw away since they didn't have anything to pack it with. They were forced to wait outside in a cold, rainy weather until their unaware parents came closer to midnight. It was only after one of the angry moms arrived early to collect her child and knocked on the bar door that they offered to bring the children back inside. Around 23 40 I arrived with some boxes to collect the leftovers and tips for the waiters and was shocked after I realised what had happened. I don't understand the waiters' behaviour, they closed the bar early because there wasn't any guests in other parts of the building and my daughter had been kicked out. On Monday after the party I spoke to the bar owner. She was very unprofessional. She didn't see anything wrong in the way the waiters acted. Her excuse was that we paid very little for the hire of the venue, but in fact I paid the full amount. During the entire conversation she kept saying that they did us a huge favour because we paid too little and brought our own food, which was all pre-agreed with the manager. I didn't however receive an explanation as to why the waiters did what they did and no refund was offered. I did receive an apology. During the conversation the manager was there as well and while stroking his hair she said that he is not a manager of the venue.

Since pioneer has been under new management it has become one of the best place for me and my family to come out for food all the staff are just lovely and the service is fab and very welcoming just love coming here and no as expensive as I thought it was going to be just live. It her if if love good serves and even better food this is the place to come

Came here with a friend and had 3 small plates each and it was delicious. Waitress Ada very helpful and nothing too much trouble. Would definitely recommend.

We popped in looking for something to drink and for a catch up. What a fantastic place with great service, friendly manors and quality food and drinks. A brilliant outside area to enjoy the sun which is also clean and tidy. We recommend this bar if you are visiting or in the Crosby area in Liverpool

Came to this bar before Christmas and was not that impressed to be honest, but driving past and seen the ‘New Owner’ signs and thought I’d give it another try. What an absolutely amazing difference, the place was really fresh and clean, met instantly by smiling staff who really looked after me and my friend (Oly). Food is amazing quality and not a expensive in the slightest for the quality, I eat in a number of places and this one is without doubt as good, if not better, than some really big names!!

Freshly made, quality ingredients, friendly staff! 10 giant prawns in the prawn linguine 😳loved it! Salman fabulous. No complaints at all

I had a not so great experience here the first time I came but decided to give it another go. It was such a terrible experience. Management are rude and do not care about complaints they have blinkers to their service and complaints !

Been a regular at pioneer for many many years always enjoyable and lovely staff welcoming u in had a lovely Sunday lunch with the family today shoutout to the 2 chefs Harry and toni who cooked are Sunday dinner I’m celebrating my 30th birthday in 4 weeks time and I can’t wait as my friends 30th was here and was filled with a great atmosphere and amazing service! Came here with 8 members of the family for afternoon tea on mothers day, £35 per person for a tiny tray of food and one cup of tea. Was told there would be a singer but all we got was music playing from an iPhone. One of the girls gave each of us a glass of preseco after we complained about not getting what we paid for, then after the bill came they decided to charge us for the glass of preseco. Will never come here again.

Visited here with family for Mother’s Day, food was absolutely delicious, 2 courses for 26.95, cheap considering the size of the portions! They also had two singers on later that afternoon who were fantastic, really got the crowd going!! Can’t wait to come back, thanks Pioneer!!

Booked afternoon tea for 8 ppl for Mother’s Day! Singer that was advertised didn’t happen sat for 2 hours before we had to asks what was happening, told he had technical issues and couldn’t stay. It was £35 each and you got one tray between 3 ppl with one cup of tea! Nothing special at all, just sat in a room with an iPhone playing music! Stressful atmosphere and poorly organised. Total waste of money and waste of Mother’s Day!!

Soon as we arrived was told I had not paid deposit (I did) or left phone number for them to contact me an so our afternoon tea will be a wait of around 30 mins. we had to ask for tea and drinks as no one come over for a while. Had to get my online banking up to prove we paid a deposit, the butties were basic - cucumber, salmon , egg Mayo, the brownies were choc orange and no one likes that on our table. They also didn’t take the deposit of the bill so had to get it changed, Overall wasn’t a pleasant experience at all and I won’t be rushing back as the staff seemed quite snotty aswell apart from a very young girl who was lovely

Celebrated daughter’s 21st birthday in the function room upstairs......... we have a great evening, well organised. Sit down meal for large group - food lovely, staff friendly & attentive, nothing was too much trouble.

Rubbish, been loads of times and always been a let down! Only reason we go is because we get invited to family get togethers £25 for a starter and a main just because we are a group booking and can’t pick off the menu, bare in mind there’s under 20 people, I don’t see why you can’t just order on the day.. so looking at the menu online, I can officially say we got ripped off. The food on the menu is so much cheaper than this horrible set menu, most of us didn’t finish our dinners and wrapped it up to take home to the dogs. The £25 also covers a dessert but not one each, just a small tray of rubbish desserts. The chocolate brownies if that’s what you want to call it was really dry just like eating cardboard, so yeah I think the management need to think about the prices and the quality of the food.

I was a chef at the pioneer and personally I would never eat there as I’ve been told to serve mouldy food a lot of times. I got told to serve these burgers that are mouldy and the customer sent it back saying it tastes weird, that was just the burgers...

Had a function here for my birthday celebration, brilliant service and attention from staff even though we stayed 45 mins after closing time! Didn’t hassle us to leave at all, food was perfect, we had a buffet and everyone at the party commented on the quality of the food. We were recommended Prestige events to decorate the room which they did beautifully and very reasonably priced. Played our own playlist through Spotify on the speaker system and everyone was dancing and having a great time. Wouldn’t hesitate to have a celebration here again. Thanks to all the staff at the pioneer for making the night a success!

I and a group of friends recently came to the Pioneer for a catch up, some drinks and nibbles - i have to say the service was wonderful! The staff attentive and happy to help suggest wines and cocktails. We had a number of sharing platters which were very reasonably prices for the quality. There were a couple of small waits on drinks as the bar got busier in the evening, however nothing major. All in all a wonderful night and we will definitely be returning!

Vine aquí para una reunión de fiesta y quedé muy decepcionado con el servicio y también el alto costo de las bebidas.La habitación no estaba climatizada y algunos tuvieron que sentarse en abrigos.  19 para dos Gin and Tonics fue un poco caro. Tuve que pedir dos veces rodajas de limón para las bebidas y éstas fueron recogidas a mano y arrojadas a los vasos.La comida era buena, pero algunos tuvieron que esperar mucho tiempo para que su orden llegara cuando otros casi habían terminado.No había agua ni vasos en las mesas y cuando el desierto vino con una salsa de chocolate no se dieron cuenta de que necesitábamos platos.El servicio fue excepcionalmente pobre y parece que otros clientes también lo han experimentado.Es poco probable que vuelva aquí.

Vinimos aquí hace unas semanas para el cumpleaños de mi madre. Cuando nos sentamos en el restaurante no había nadie más allí. Tomó de estar sentado a nuestras comidas una hora, lo que creo que es demasiado largo. Cuando hablamos con la señora al final acerca de nuestra espera, nos dijeron que era porque habíamos dicho que queríamos que todas nuestras comidas se unieran, lo cual no habíamos hecho, y porque estaban esperando que se cocinara el filete. El filete ni siquiera fue el último en salir y estoy bastante seguro de que un filete no tarda tanto en cocinarse. Ni siquiera nos ofrecieron un descuento de buena voluntad gesto que, aunque yo era pobre. Me da miedo pensar cuánto tiempo hubiéramos esperado si el restaurante hubiera estado lleno.Por otro lado, la comida era muy buena. Simplemente decepcionado por el servicio.

This was a last minute booking for Sunday lunch. We were greeted and served by extremely friendly staff.

Service was shocking. Staff with no knowledge. Pricey for location and overall dissatisfied. Train the staff how to smile would be a first hint.

It is always a pleasant experience to pop in for a drink at this comfortable bar. The staff are welcoming, there is a great choice of drinks and plenty of places to sit inside and out.

We had a family wedding in the function room upstairs on the 27th April. The food served was lovely, especially the duck leg starters and the fish and chips. The dessert platter were gorgeous and had a great variety. The boys on the bar provided an excellent service and were absolutely lovely to all the guests especially those that didn’t want the party to end! April was brilliant and was very organised. It’s our second party at the venue and we can’t wait for our third.

We had our sons 18th meal at the Pioneer last night and it was excellent. April and the staff couldn’t have done enough for us. We needed the set menu to be changed due to vegan guests and dietary requirements and nothing was too much bother.

Forget it went to a wedding reception up stairs not enough room to swing a cat food was good tho and bar staff very good

We hired the function room for our intimate wedding here (38 guests for the day and 65 in evening). The pioneer were amazing from the moment we booked and all the way through.

Recently had my wife’s 40th birthday party here and everyone was really impressed and kept commenting on how great the food was and the lovely selection of gins available. This is the second party my family have had here, my niece had her 21st here a few months ago and we held my mother’s funeral here in January. Would thoroughly recommend for any type of event for the quality of food, the atmosphere and the attentive staff

Absolutely horrendous, obnoxious doesn’t do credit to the so called staff. Waited 20 minutes at the bar couldn’t even get eye contact,never mind being served. The so called staff are more interested in the bills from the customers than anything else. Money,Money, Money. Bad, Bad service STEER CLEAR!!!!!

I was invited to a 50th lunch celebration. The friend made the booking and we were asked to send menu choices a week in advance. All 17 arrived at 1.30pm as planned. It took one and a quarter hours before the starter was served and another half an hour later for the maincourse. Those who did not request a starter waited one and three quarters of an hour for food. The food was nicely presented and tasted good but not hot. There did not seem to be any apology for the delay which seemed unreasonable!!

I have recently been to a 70th birthday party at the Pioneer it was a lovely evening the food was really fabulous, until they brought out the desserts which I noticed were a carrot cake and a lemon meringue which had both been purchased from Costco, they charged £25 for each cake which are only £10 to buy yourself from Costco, they decorated the carrot cake with some fruit so as to disguise where they had been purchased from so if you need a dessert please think before say yes.

Came here mothers day with my mum and kids, i have been many times and usually we love it here , we had the table 11-12.30. When we arrived we were told to take a seat in bar area as our table isnt yet ready.

Visited for afternoon tea last month. It is very average. Would recommend avoiding this standard place and visiting somewhere else in the maybe in the city centre. Costs £14 each and coffee is not included!

12 de la familia tuvieron un desayuno de cumpleaños en Pioneer el domingo. El menú del desayuno se adaptó a todos y tenía una gran variedad, que tenía un precio muy razonable. La calidad y la frescura de la comida fue excelente, y todo salió bien y estaba caliente. El personal era muy amable y profesional y nada era demasiado problema. No puedo esperar a volver y probar los huevos benedictinos con tocino ahumado. Gracias Pioneer, esperamos volver pronto.

Visited mid week for a get together with friends for food and drinks. Booked a table for 3 people at 7 we arrived early and sat bar area had lovely cocktails. We were then told due to a large party table was not ready we where not bothered by this as we where enjoying cocktails and server took food order before seating us at 7:45 we where in no rush so we where happy with this. Food was lovely no complaints there. Service not the greatest and we where promptly brought the bill without asking before plates even cleared away no mention of further drinks or the offer of puddings not exactly what we where hoping for on the plus side we saved money we where willing to spend on drinks and our waist lines on a pudding we more than likely would of treated ourselves to. Nice enough food but there are plenty of places in the area to choose from so would not readily return. Bar area good cocktails amazing especially 2 £10 mid week.

Went here last minute for lunch. It’s a nicely presented restaurant, wine was good and service ok. Waited a while for food considering it wasn’t very busy. Paid £9.25 for a burger which tasted extremely processed and I can only compare to something from McDonalds. Really didn’t want to eat it but waited so long for the food could not wait for something else. Very disappointing. I have had much better quality burgers for a lot less. Would expect better for the price.

We booked the restaurant for a surprise 60th birthday meal for 46 people. April lead us through the process of booking the restaurant, selecting meals, drinks packages and table plans. On the night itself April and the staff were extremely professional, friendly and very accommodating. The food was excellent, there was a real party atmosphere and all our guests had a wonderful time.

Restaurante encantador! Vine con la familia para una buena comida y fue atendido por el increíble personal. La comida era deliciosa, con opciones para los niños. Gran selección de ginebra, que se combinó con sugerencias informadas del personal sobre tónicos y se adornó hermosamente. Echa un vistazo a las Tres Gracias Rosa Gin. El área del bar tiene áreas cómodas para sentarse y charlar, así que espero que vuelva con algunas amigas para probarlo sin niños.

Un grupo numeroso (unos 30) de nosotros comimos aquí para la 60ª de mi tío. El área del bar se veía muy bien con una televisión para el deporte y algunas excelentes opciones de cervezas. La comida, especialmente teniendo en cuenta el grupo grande, era muy buena y el personal era muy amable. El único aspecto negativo fue que una de nuestras mesas la comida fue unos 15 minutos más tarde que la de todos los demás, lo que puede ocurrir con grupos grandes, pero todos los demás han terminado su comida incluso antes de obtener la suya. Definitivamente lo recomendaría.

My girlfriend and I had a roast dinner at the pioneer today and it was fantastic. My girlfriend got chicken and I got beef. It was delicious. Somebody next to me got the lamb and that looked lovely too!

Me and the wife came here Thursday night for some time away from the kids. I stuck to pints of san mig while she had 2 for £10 espresso martinis. We saw there were a few spaces left in the restaurant so decided to stay for tea. Sirloin steak cooked to perfection, medium rare with thick cut chips and lashings of peppercorn sauce

An amazing night made even more wonderful by the brilliant staff, who couldn’t do more. So many positive comments about the food, the best buffet they had had in a long while.

We visited the pioneer for Sunday lunch and it was fantastic. We were with our kids age 6,3,2 and the staff were really accommodating, in particular April. It's a daily run restaurant with quality food. We will be revisiting.

Food was fine, some bits nicer then others - just an average meal. Staff were polite but service was extremely slow. We waited for someone to come back over as we needed new drinks but we went drinkless for about 20 minutes.

A lovely place to chill on a Sunday after your roast dinner. The bar was busy but friendly. Had a bottle of Peroni and sat watching some news on tv. There are good food on the menu. Maybe next time. A private function room upstairs. Lovely ambience of a local bar. Cheap food and drinks.

Pioneer came to our rescue on New Year’s Eve. We had a reservation at another local restaurant which had cancelled our booking 20 mins before we were due to eat. (I’ve given that place a separate review). Not expecting to find anywhere else to eat that night, we went to the Pioneer to decide what to do. Despite it being extremely busy, I couldn’t believe our luck that after explaining our situation the Pioneer managed to squeeze us in their restaurant. I had the prawns to start, they were delicious and you get a good size portion. For mains we both had the lamb, it was really tasty & tender. Even though it was a really busy night there, both the food & service were absolutely spot on. So big thanks to all at Pioneer for coming to our rescue on New Year’s Eve.

Went for an early evening meal- the music in the bar was so loud- believe there was a baby shower taking place-we sat at the table furthest away from the bar but we could not hear ourselves talk.I could not eat my vegetarian meal as nachos like card board-I was not informed about this as I asked for filling to be omitted as I cannot eat spicy food.There was no service after we received our meal- staff busy serving drinks in bar.Have been to Pioneer few times and have enjoyed visits but no more- lack of vegetarian meals in 2019 is quite sad.

Along with 11 friends i went to a prebooked champagne fizz afternoon tea at Pioneer.

I never usually do reviews but I make an exception for this restaurant and their service and food are in fact exceptional. I have been on a number of occasions now as they have such a warm welcoming atmosphere. I recently visited on New Year’s Day for brunch with friends, the place was packed and I was concerned we may have a long wait for a table as we hadn’t booked. However the staff were so accommodating and to our delight we were seated in 10minutes! The staff are so polite and friendly and nothing was too much trouble, they even explained the gluten free options to my friend. The food, as usual was delicious and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone as it caters to all including large parties and children.

We visited Pioneer on Christmas Eve with friends and family. I had the cannon of lamb and my husband the beef stroganoff, our youngest eat from the children’s menu but our 12 year old didnt want the child’s menu but didn’t like anything on the set Christmas menu. The staff were only to happy to accommodate her by doubling up her child size burger

We came here as a party of 10 on Christmas Eve. The website said they had both a Christmas menu and a normal evening menu. We were booked in for 6.45pm but got there early so we could have some drinks at the bar. The place was very busy. The girl working behind the bar said the table would just be cleared and we could sit down. There was nowhere to sit or stand so we just stood by the bar, we kept getting huffed at by the staff for being in the way. The ceiling started leaking water so they had to mop it up around us. When we got to the table, the waitress/manager was flustered and stressed as there wasn’t enough cutlery or paper crackers to put out. When it came to ordering we were told that only the Christmas menu was available. As this was Christmas Eve we didn’t fancy a huge Christmas dinner. We asked if there was anything else we could have and granted, they said they would check with the chef. They came back and told us we could have steak or fish and chips but that the chef would only cook all the steaks medium rare. It was that or nothing. One of the waitresses then said ‘oh the chefs are really awkward and a pain in the *#*%. We ate our food and waited nearly 30 mins for them to clear the table so we could order dessert. Halfway through the meal the bar man came over to check what drinks we’d had as they had added someone else’s order to our tab. At the end of the meal, our bill came to £260. When we checked it, they had overcharged us by £42.

This was our first ever christmas eating out. We had a 3 course meal which the food was amazing. All the staff worked so hard and were so helpful. We will definitely be booking in for Christmas 2019! But will have one extra addition with us . Thank you to all the staff for making it so lovley for us.

Visited today Sunday 23 December with 8 of my family we had the Christmas menu, they even catered for my vegan guests and my fussy children who barely eat anything. Staff was so attentive would definitely recommend. We are returning Boxing Day look forward to eating and drinking here again

Very disappointing, ‘head waitress’ rude. Told our group to be quieter (there were over 25 in our group). Then when 6 people were left she said she needed to clear the table down and could we go in the other room, although 4 other tables were still eating mains.

Have not eaten in the Pioneer Bar for a long time after a couple of disappointing meals. My sister visited recently and recommended it to me so four of us lunched there today. What a fabulous lunch we had! We chose from the set Christmas menu, two courses £20, three courses £25 approximately . Very nice choice, I had the Goats cheese, chilli and tomato tart to start, two had the Brandy laced liver pate and another had the Prawns , we all thoroughly enjoyed our first course. We then all opted for the traditional Turkey Christmas dinner and aren’t we glad we did, it was delicious, the vegetables, carrots,parsnips,sprouts were cooked to perfection, roast potatoes to die for! Turkey moist, stuffing, pigs in blankets, really nice gravy. After a suitable interval we chose from the delicious dessert menu,the Sticky toffee pudding was the lightest ever, and two of our party chose the Apple and Cinnamon sponge which was also fabulous.

What a fantastic place to visit. As a party of 4 we had pre-booked to have the Christmas set menu for £20 a head. The food was excellent, the service and the staff were very friendly and attentive. The drinks were top quality and the atmosphere in the place was fun and friendly. We had the pleasure of seeing Gary Barker from the X factor perform, the whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable and we can’t wait to visit again soon. Well done Pioneer you are first class.

Visited again on a Thursday evening in December. Last time we visited we had a issue with the Dry Martini measures being served ( wrong measure being used for dry martini in July - and it has not improved).

I found a hair in my chicken wrap, made the staff aware and was made to feel like I was either lying or being dramatic. A lady, who I assume is the manager, came over and asked where I had found it and said she couldn’t see it & it was probably a ‘chicken hair’. We were asked if we wanted a replacement, but I was put off obviously. No apology whatsoever, and we were given the bill without even asking for it, obviously trying to rush us to pay and leave. I wouldn’t of minded if there was any apology but they just made us feel stupid. Won’t be returning

Booked for the festive set menu. 3 course set menu the food was lovely. But service was so slow. Such a let down waited ages to have plates cleared and ordered drinks after our starters that still didn’t arrive by the time we paid the bill!

This restaurant is closest to where I live, so not to have visited for several years is down to a very bad experience all that time ago. We decided it was time for a revisit, which we did on an unusually quiet Saturday evening.

My friend and i decided to try out this place after recommendations from friends who have been here, it was quite busy but we were not waiting long for our order. We chose the special offer of 5 small plates wich were accompanied by 2 free glasses of wine, the food was delicious, calamari, teriyaki fillet beef, halloumi fries, fishcakes and meatballs, the staff were very attentive without being over bearing and the place had a lovely atmosphere. Couldnt leave without trying a tipple from their gin selection, we went for the citrus and rose, they have a good selection of wines and spirits and some mouthwatering cocktails, we could of carried on trying the lot but we are saving ourselves for 16th December just booked for thier christmas event and we can try the cocktails then.

I went here with a couple of my mates on a Thursday evening We was only going to have a few drinks but after smelling the food and seeing the great menu we had to try it, I had previously been to a engagement in the function room which was lovely which made me want to bring my friends, we opted for the 5 small plates and got 2 free glasses of wine, we had the goats cheese spring rolls, patatas bravas, feta and watermelon salad,ham&onion; croquettes and sticky ribs also ordered some of the gorgeous chunky chips. The food was as good as it looked mouthwatering and cooked to perfection, we finished off with a lovely bottle of whispering angel rose as recommended by the lovely staff, we will definetly be back as we enjoyed the night and atmosphere, thank you pioneer

After visiting nearby eateries in Crosby we decided on the Pioneer for my wife’s surprise 50th birthday. What a fantastic choice we made !!!

Booked for a big baby shower based on recommendations from family and friends and visits ourselves. Large deposit paid and no customer service skills at all resulting in a bad taste in everyones mouth. Due to a life threatening situation and a premature birth unable to keep the date. No compromise no understanding of future customers, all about making money. Not likely to go again, and had advised all others not to bother. Its a shame but there are so many other options so why bother. Found put its not the only incident like this of no compromise bookings and the local papers are interested in the bad feeling its causing in the community. shame.

Came here on Saturday for my birthday for a meal and some drinks. The food was absolutely beautiful all 6 of us said how lovely it was. Waitress was new and she was fab we loved her. Can’t wait to come and try the new wine menu!!

Visited here on thursday with 5 girlfriends after seeing their offer online 5 small plates and 2 free glasses of wine,we ordered 5 plates between each pair of us and in total received 6 glasses of FREE WINE AMAZING. Not to mention the food. Best place ive been in a long time!

Me and Mrs fun belly love pioneer, very trendy venue, we love to come and chill out with couple of drinks. Alternatively we love pioneer breakfasts, great to cure a hangover. Tip: don't sit underneath the speakers 😂🙈

I visited here last weekend and it was a fabulous night! I tried the Cajun salmon, duck spring rolls and the beef steak from the small plates menu and it was absolutely delicious! Staff were attentive and friendly, service was quick ordering drinks. I cannot wait to return for our Christmas party! I would highly recommend.
