What a find! The cutest little French bistro with a small menu featuring classic brunch dishes done well. It's a tad pricey, but the fact they had Canele's (specialty Bordeaux pastry) completely won us over. We ordered some, thinking there's no way they'd taste as good as the real thing in Bordeaux, but we were proven wrong! They were a highlight of our weekend in London 😍 The order: Sourdough with scrambled eggs & comté (cheese) - £10 Sourdough with scrambled eggs & bacon - £10.50 Smoked salmon toast with cream cheese - £15 Pan au chocolate - £2 Canelé - £2

We visited as a group of 6 friends. Some of our group had already been for food here, and had been so enthusiastic about it, that we arranged this meal. We had lunch, and tried several dishes and the cheese and platter board between us, and wine suggested by the owner and his son. It was a brilliant meal, food was great, wine very good, but the atmosphere was like our visits to France, relaxed and friendly, nothing to rush for, very nice. I think you are likely to have to book ahead, it seemed very busy and popular. Great afternoon.

7 of us arrived for a lunch at 12.00pm. At 1.15 we were still waiting for our first course The soup arrived but was cold . The main course chips were also cold and the fish could best be described as fish flavoured bread crumbs. The young waiting staff were polite and helpful which could not be said for the lady supervisor who was rude and unhelpful not the example one would expect from quoting from the site’s web “careful supervision of students by our professional chef-lecturers and technicians” . We left at 3pm!!!! Just over 3 hours!!! This was not of our doing but the lateness of being served our meal. This is not the first time we had eaten at 'The Lane' and on all other occasions we have enjoyed the food and the service. This time it was terrible, we will NOT be booking again which is a shame.

On the positive side the cakes etc are exquisite, however.... Ignoring the fact that there seems to a distinct, as others in reviews have put it, frostiness*, from the elderly server, there is an issue of cross contamination on the products provided. Her Observational skills are lacking and indeed a duty of care or realisation of actions. A large box was used to house the cakes chosen; enough to fill the box . It was the intention, once the size of the box was realised, to ensure the cakes would not suffer any damage in transit by filling the box fully enough so that lateral movement would not occur. Call it customer common sense. The server did not have and protective gloves on, not that that is an issue ordinarily, it would probably impede the manipulation of the cakes into the box possibly. The observational issue is that the server, the elderly women, was content to close the lid of the box which would hae dislodged and altered the appearance of said wonderfully crafted pattiserie. Just before the elderly woman's (server) intent to close the box and therefore alter the presentation of the skilled craftsperson a polite intervention was needed. Again, ignoring the 'frostiness' of the server, she was content to simply push the offending topping of the cakes into and aside thus altering the artistry intended. This was completed aplomb and with scant regard to cleanliness or the thought of cross contamination. Remember her fingers contacted a number of cakes. The likelihood of this individual having washed her hands previously is called into doubt given the attitude perceived. It was thought better to pay and leave rather than have any further interaction. Good job this was not a test purchase by some food standards agency. * The elderly womens distinct 'non contentment ' was prevalent, but as this is a transaction that was not reliant on feelings and perception, the issue of attitude pales into insignificance when the ignorance of simple safe practice is called into question.

We very much enjoyed our 4 night stay at Fleur de Lys - the rooms were splendid - clean, comfortable, well equipped and spacious and the staff incredibly welcoming and helpful. Everything worked extremely well. We very much look forward to staying again most likely next summer if not before.

What a lovely restaurant! Amazing value and delicious authentic home cooked food. Half price drinks and hearty dishes. We were so lucky to find this place! The waiter was very friendly and attentive and worked very hard to ensure everyone was happy. The Rillettes, tomato and cheese salad, and chicken chowder starter - all delicious. Beef stew, lamb meatballs and lamb stew with ginger all mouth watering and cooked perfectly. Cheese and biscuits dessert, waffles and peach tart also amazing. Half price bottle of wine to top it all off! Three courses for 3 people with a bottle of wine for £44. This is a real gem.

Unassuming little cafe in Lyndhurst which we just popped in to as passing at end of a long walk. Had excellent coffee, strong and piping hot with fresh tasty scones. Very reasonable prices, lovely lady served us and spotless cafe. Little gem. Not surprised they were very busy.

As someone who is gluten-free, this was my go to place to treat myself to a proper cake that also anyone else could also eat. So I went yesterday to treat myself only to be told that they have changed chef and now none of the fancy cakes in the window are gluten free. So so disappointed, I've even had a birthday cake made by them in the past.

Lovely hidden gem. Friendly service, welcomed us and our children. Provided chalk for our kids to draw on the slate tables which was a novelty they loved. Excellent quality food - I had the choucroute which had a great selection of meat. Also one diner had a gluten intolerance and the team had a fantastic understanding of what this was and were very accommodating. Will happily go again.
