This is the second incarnation of this space I have dined in - the previous was called the Gilbert Scott. This time the venue seems calmer and quieter - a rare thing for London restaurants these days. Soft furnishing and comfy deep seating - we stayed to chat after our coffee was long gone. But I found the menu a bit of a challenge - probably down to me but nothing really shone out so I end up with a starter and a further starter for main. It seemed to all work ok. So all in all a pleasant place with a little work needed on the menu. Staff seemed busy and a bit distracted.

Could not fault a thing. Extensive drinks menu with exceptional cocktails and full range of wines to suit all budgets. Food with exceptional ingredients cooked to absolute perfection. A set menu at outstanding value. And to top it all off such friendly, attentive and caring staff. Ticked every box well worth a visit if in the Kings Cross area.

Amazing place and we were seated in a quiet area, not the main restaurant which looks even grander. Ren ( Lauren) was very friendly and attentive, the perfect person to look after us while we waited for the Eurostar train. So used to leaving from Ebbsfleet station, I'll definitely leave from St Pancras in future just to have the pleasure and experience of the Midland Grand dining Room. John, the manager, also came over for a chat, revealing some interesting information about the Gothic revival hotel and the Mercedes McLaren parked outside which was supposed to be an advert for the hotel but probably just somewhere for the owner to park his car as, after a second look, we still couldn't spot any advertising. The wine list is excellent and the food of a very high standard. The Art deco bar area with such high ceilings created the impression of luxurious days gone by. Very relaxing with so much space. Pricing wise it is good value and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Add to that the toilets which are equally upmarket and spotlessly clean and you have a dining experience as good as any costly private members club. Lovely experience and a very enjoyable lunch. Highly recommended.

An excellently cooked meal was turned into something exceptional and memorable by the staff who were friendly but not overly familiar, attentive but not intrusive and exceptionally well informed. I was told the sauce with the scallops was fantastic and it was; to the point of asking for bread to mop it up! The soufflé could not be faulted and steak was cooked to perfection. The room is comfortable and a great improvement on it's previous incarnation but it really was the service that made this a great dining experience. I also found their suggestions were so much better than my own unaided choices. I cannot thank the staff enough both the front of house and behind the scenes.

A Great dining experience with very attentive staff a very knowledgeable sommelier made for a delicious Sunday lunch The Sharing Chicken for two was just superb. No roast potatoes or Yorkshire puddings but the potato dauphinoise made up for it. A thoroughly enjoyable day.

I can be a bit picky but everything about our lunch here was perfect. The food was delicious, interesting and perfectly cooked. Portions were ideal, with enough room to accommodate the excellent bread at the start and an awesome dessert. We landed on a couple of excellent wines too, including one from a very enticing single bottle list. The setting is fantastic and while I thought the service might be a bit stuffy, it wasn’t at all; instead it was superbly professional, friendly, relaxed and very helpful. I think I’m going to need to find some more excuses for the kind of special occasion the place deserves.

I visited here with family (group of 14) for a private dining experience as we were having a large celebration. The food was just incredible and each course was delicious - I was very impressed. You could not fault the service either. We were there several hours taking our time between each course and the brilliant waiters and waitresses kept the drinks flowing. I look forward to one day coming back - it certainly was a dining experience and the perfect place to go for a special meal or celebration.

Lovely spot for a special lunch. The dining room is spectacular. Reasonably priced fixed price lunch menu with good choices and interesting flavours. Nice relaxed but luxurious vibe. Bit of a hidden gem I’d say. Attentive service.

Wow.. what a beautiful experience... friendly and professional service and the food is amazing! We started with a few snacks: Grilled octopus Gildas, Parmesan fritters with garlic and coppa, Comte gougeres. Then lamb skewers and scallops, followed by Roast chicken and pork with braised lentils.... all superb and beautifully presented.

It’s a bit boring to describe each moment when service wasn’t what it should have been for a restaurant like this. After a long wait for drinks and taking orders we were continually having to ask for service when we wanted it. Not good, no awareness. Food was good though.

Fine dining in the most elegant of surroundings. Three courses of small but perfectly formed dishes that nevertheless left us feeling satisfied, including an exquisitely wrought, mini Brunelleschi puff pastry dome of venison and dauphinoise pithivier and finishing with a banana and honey soufflé. Superbly cooked food and perfect service from every member of staff we encountered, but especially the delightful Anna, and the sommelier who, from our shortlist at the cheaper end of a vast and fascinating wine list, guided us smoothly towards a delicious bottle of wine. It was a very special occasion as my dear friend and I had not seen one another for over 3 years and have both had tragedy in our lives. It lived up totally to our expectations and was not just grand but very relaxing too. Such memorable lunches make life worth living.

We were really looking forward to our first visit since marcus wareing left . It started off on the wrong foot, we deliberately arrived 30 mins early to have a drink in the gothic bar - however we were informed we could not as we hadnt booked ok i said we will go to the hotel bar and return for the meal then suddenly a table was found in the bar there were several unused tables . Then we were shown to out table in a little row , not our favourite position but we were not asked . Service many reviewers have said was friendly which we did not find , quite anonymous not particularly friendly , the gougeres were nice , as were the oysters , the snails were rich and enjoyable ( unlike the ones at maison francois )french fries for my wife were very poor , tiny and tasteless ,the chicken was ok , my hake en papillote was fine so our visit that night was really affected by the confusion about the bar and then the indifferent service which i think coloured our judgement over the food . It is indisputably a lovely room - but how important is the greeting and the service. Maybe just a bad night but we were not on this experience looking to return the previous evening we had eaten at l a venture restaurant in maida vale where the service is warm and charming and the food good .

A lovely elegant room for a formal meal. Service was helpful and friendly with a varied menu. Prices are high as you might expect but everything we tried was delicious. Excellent dover sole but a shame that only fries or dauphinoise available as a side. It was nice they accommodated my random request for chocolate sauce with ice-cream. Hot chocolate drink needs improvement as it was very weak. A note was provided for happy birthday and free sparkling wine available as part of a January offer but more could have been done to reflect a special occasion. When the bill came no service had been included but when the machine was offered for payment the amount had been changed to include 15% service which wasn't the best way to end the meal.

Very underwhelming experience. We have dined in several Michelin star restaurants around the world and love a good experience. This restaurant was a great disappointment. We had the evening menu, which appears to be dishes from the menu but to share and therefore double the price, other tables had ordered regular meals and they appeared to be the same size as the one we had to share. Secondly the food was just not great. Very normal, nothing extraordinary or special in any kind of way, rather boring and bland. Also the service was unable to speak proper English therefore the communication was difficult. The wine had to be self-served, the bottle was left at the table, no-one checked on us to refill our glasses. When we spoke up regarding missing fish cutlery, we got a rude answer from the waiter that he can cut it perfectly fine and would do it for us if we struggled 😳. No explanation on the dishes was given, just placed in front of us. Also the restaurants atmosphere is not great, it is very busy as the kitchen is on the upper floor and you can see and hear the waiters running up and down the hallway. The bar in the upper floor is operated in a loudly manner. When we asked to waive the service charge, our waitress was not able to understand the ask herself and called the manager who discussed the situation, so a bad meal with bad service was followed by a socially awkward conversation. We would have expected a price reduction at the very least. Would not recommend, genuinely don’t understand how they managed to get a Michelin Star.

I was really looking forward to visit the place after seeing the menu online, but sadly when I arrived to the restaurant there was at least 5 different dishes, if the menu was the same of the one online I would have gone for the 10 courses menu but opted for the 8 instead, which felt like a gimmick anyways because they count the canapés, pre dessert and petit fours as a course, and the cheese course being a shortcut to avoid cooking an extra dish, so in the end I really got 5 courses and paid for 8, I think they do this with everyone. The canapés and the 3 savoury courses were great, but the pre dessert and dessert were really disappointing, not really creative and the dessert left me only with a taste of basil even after the petit fours and a bit of wine that I had left. The service was friendly but sloppy, the tablecloth was dirty and I noticed even before seating but didn’t want to make a fuss out of it. Then I’ve been asked for water twice and got even the wrong one 🤦🏻♂️ To order food was way quicker than ordering wine which took like 15 mins and they literally had 5 tables in the room, also the waiting between the courses was way too long, which means that either the front of house or the chefs are very slow. The wine list is embarrassing and as a sommelier myself seems like a set up to rip you off, there’s not a single bottle of wine under £90, also the wines by the glass they have a gap from like £25 to £40 to £125 which is insane, no half bottles either, and for my firsrt glass of wine they didn’t even offer me to taste it before, despite the wines I ordered were both a good value and the guy who served it was decent and had some knowledge. In all this I think it was the owner sitting next to my table with some friends and drinking wine instead of worrying about the mediocre service they give which is not worth of a Michelin star, probably they are just retaining it because they have it for long time and know the people of the guide. 190£ for just myself for that menu and 2 glasses of wine is absolutely not worth it and I won’t recommend anyone that has eye for details to go there. The room itself looks so old that saying that the place feel like is stuck in the 80’s is generous. Feels bad to leave a review like this, in first place because I work in the industry and I never like to talk bad about other places, and because the staff were friendly and offered me also a glass of white wine to go with my cheeses, but after what I spent I feel like it was absolutely outrageous for the food and wines and the only taste that stays in your mouth is bitter. Also for some very weird reasons after the review the owner tries to follow me from his private instagram account probably trying to write me something. He never moved from the table as he stated in the answer and he had about 2 bottles of wine while on duty. Manager apparently that doesn’t know what a salsa verde is made of, letting guests order anything and then go and amend the order which is very annoying, another lady nearly placed my water bottle on the butter plate and so on I can go ahead for 4 pages. This place is completely pitiful and the owner is the most embarrassing and unprofessional I ever seen in my life, drinking while working and also trying to contact people. Avoid at all cost, mediocrity masked for class, which they won’t have even if they will but.

It was a while since we had been to Mon Plaisir and we were pleased that we had returned. The staff seemed less French but the food was decidedly so and both aspects were very good, albeit we waited a little longer than expected for our main courses. We selected from the main menu and seasonal specials rather than the good value set menu, so it was quite an expensive lunch, especially with the very good house champagne at £17 a glass and glasses of wine at 13 or 14. Our mains ranged from 28 to 36. Overall, very good but quite pricey.
