Fantastic start to afternoon. Excellent waitress/Maitre De who was just brilliant. Cuisine was excellent, wine was excellent & we were really enjoying the experience up until 5.00.pm when a somewhat aggressive waitress followed by an equally aggressive senior waitress demanded we pay the bill & leave within 10 minutes. The reason given was the restaurant had another booking which needed our table. At this point the restaurant was completely empty. We were about to buy some Port & coffees to finish the afternoon. The attitude of these 2 staff members spoilt an otherwise a fantastic experience & tarnished our memory of Mon Plaisir. The staff need extensive training before we are persuaded to return. Our bill was £550 which is not a small amount. Could do better.

Food very good; service OK; price acceptable. Mon Plaisir has a distinctive and very pleasant dining room (the original?). Unfortunately the current policy is not to open it at lunchtime with the result that service is limited to a small area with only a basic atmosphere. Hence the once fully enjoyable experience of visiting the restaurant is lost. Why do the owners not utilise one of the restaurant's finest assets to their advantage? What was once one of my favourite luncheon spots has lost its charm - a great shame.

Very mediocre food here. Coq au vin comprised tough chicken in a sauce which looked and tasted like it has been used for washing up. Lady who took order demanded I speak French when ordering drinks. Really disappointing. Didn't complain as was anniversary night out and we were crammed in next to other diners. Shabby decor. Very expensive also. I imagine they are catering for tourists so bar is low.

A once superb restaurant I have eaten at since the 1980's but this dining experience was appalling. That quintessential French ambiance and style has been replaced by staff who do not know the basics of service. Started from being shown to the table in a non communicative and shoddy manner by a young woman who simply did not understand what service entails and whose communication skills were terrible. The guests either side of the table were bemused by the attitude shown by this staff member is showing my dining partner and to our table. The menus were literally left on the table out by a male member of staff who did not interact with the diners except to ask about allergies. No advise was given on the choice of wine in relation to the menu. The food was average at best - a far cry from the halcyon days of Mon Plaisir. Is it a case that post Brexit the lack of suitable European ( French ) staff have been replaced by unsuitable non European staff who know little about French cuisine and even less about customer service ? A very sad reflection of a once excellent eatery.

This restaurant deserves more than five stars. Beforehand, I requested if possible a table in a quieter area for my autistic 3 year old and a space for my pram with my 4 month baby with little expectation. We ran late due to issues with my older son, and the restaurant were very kind to extend our book to a later time. They were kind on arrival and to my surprise there was a very suitable table. As the evening continued, they did their best to keep the area quieter by clever seating arrangements. The food was actually delicious - the BEST food I’ve had for a long time and we spend a lot on take outs and dining out. Steak tartare was amazing, and the mains also delicious. We were celebrating my husbands job offer as a consultant cardiologist and they took not from my pre-booking and the dessert that came was special as they’d beautifully written congratulations and the staff came to wish my husband congratulations and clap. I was so happy. They offered to take photos for us which is hard for us to do due to our circumstances. The desserts we ordered also were amazing. Drinks and wine were also top class. Staff were accommodating and wonderful. I even managed to feel comfortable to breastfeed which I usually worry about. Honestly, this is the best restaurant we have been for a long time and I would definitely would go again. Going to dine out isn’t easy for us and always a worry, but they made it the best experience and easy for us. Lovely people! Please visit this place!

The ambience is very Gallic, though unpretentious, and the food is of a high quality. As a ‘French experience’ this was sadly lacking, not only could the wait staff not speak a word of French, their English was poor too and they had no knowledge of the food or wine they were serving! Luckily we did…but it was not good enough for a restaurant of this standard

Disappointing experience. We used to be regulars here, but it seems like management has left the staff to run the place without proper oversight. It’s clear they don’t fully understand how to manage a restaurant. On our last visit quite a few months ago, we ordered pâté and asked for additional bread, as restaurants typically provide more upon request as you usually only get a few slices to start with. To our surprise, we were charged £4 for an extra few small half slices of not great bread. When we expressed our surprise at this meanness, the waitress agreed to remove the charge but warned that in the future, this would be standard practice. Really? Management should take a look at Authentique down the road, another small independent French establishment, where they not only serve generous portions of some of the most delicious bread I've ever tasted with their meals, but also offer complimentary bread refills on request. That’s what good customer service looks like, and is standard in most restaurants of all sizes all over the world when ordering pâté, which can only be eaten with bread. No wonder they had to close their other branch if they were running it like this, people will go elsewhere. This felt very mean-spirited
