I already worked with chef Frank in this restaurant, I was a pastry chef, I made desserts.....it's a shame I left there, today I would be very well off financially if I had continued, I don't know if Frank managed to set up the restaurant he dreamed of here in Brazil, Think of a guy who loves formula 1. I just miss him.

A wonderful French restaurant in the theatre district. It has a two or 3 course menu for pre show dining and an extensive a la carte menu. The wine list is also good. There are two dining rooms and some outdoor seating. The service was fantastic and the food delicious. The bathrooms are downstairs and there is a bar as well. Highly recommended

We had dinner in this restaurant and we took the coq au vin and the pintade. The coq was really tasty but the pintade quite plain and average. Overall it felt a bit expensive for the quality. The waiter was nice and helpful. For the decoration it feels a bit old ans dark. The service was quite slow as there weren't that many waiters.

I have to agree with those reviews that say that this place has gone downhill - and with their reasons. We had a reasonable meal, but it lacked the " je ne sais quoi" that the former team used to bring to the experience. It was also expensive for what it was, including the £4 bread - which would never occur in a true "breath of France".

I agree with most of the latest reviews. Something has happened to this restaurant. It used to be one of my favourites for many years and now it feels like they have given up. The waiters are significantly underdressed, you feel you are eating at fast-food by a train station.

Used to be my favourite restaurant, it used to feel like you stepped into a little Parisian world, but now it is more like a mediocre South Asian restaurant. We ordered our once favourite steaks that were overcooked and underseasoned. The waiter didn't even ask if we liked our food and was dressed as if he worked in a takeout restaurant at best, I don't think you'd be comfortable going to your local Sainsbury's dressed like this. The french charm and understanding of food is gone. Sad to lose this restaurant.

Poor value for money. Asked for steak medium-rare and it came out well done. Vegetables were undercooked. The frites tasted like a pack of walkers ready salted. Something has happened to this restaurant. Last night the steak tartare barely had any steak, it was all mayo and other fillers. All four of us ordered ribeye, each of us received different cuts of meat, none of which was actually ribeye. What was served was not correctly cooked at all. Terrible value, not the place it was, certainly not the place that Fergus Henderson used to wax poetically about.

Mon Plaisir used to be a favourite pre-theatre dining spot for us. We won't be going back. When we arrived the 'atmosphere' was loud Indian music we had to get turned down - odd for 'the oldest French restaurant in London'. We ordered French onion soup, coq au vin and steak-frites. The soup was too hot, dangerously so; the main dishes had been prepared with obviously poor and cheap ingredients - the steak was gristly; the coq au vin was too salty and when we mentioned this we were treated to some cock-and-bull story from the kitchen that made no sense. The waiter didn't understand the coffee order and had to ask a colleague. It wasn't just the soup that was eye-watering: for this and an overpriced bottle of red we were charged a total of £126. What has happened to this place? The overall 4-star rating here must be based on historic reviews over some years, when Mon Plaisir used to good. Very sad.

Mon Plaisir is the original French bistro in the heart of London’s West End. The decor and style of presentation (from the main menu, through the Theatre offerings and daily specials) are all thoroughly French in style, and perhaps haven’t changed since the restaurant opened. It is charming, comforting and adds to the overall experience. The front of house team are polite, friendly and courteous. You are just as likely to end up in conversation with them about what’s happening in the world, or the local area, as you are to discuss the best wine to go with a dish. The menu is a mix of classical French dishes, and modern twists on French cuisine and it is always of a high standard. If you just want a light lunch, or something more substantial before heading off to one of the nearby theatres, and if you want to try something original and authentic, then I would definitely recommend here. I have eaten here 5 or 6 times over a number of years, and have never been disappointed.

The staff were all friendly, especially our waitress who was happy to hear me reminiscing about a time before she was born! My coq au vin was third rate - in effect just a bog-standard chicken stew. I have had proper coq au vin at this restaurant before but the stew was considerably inferior - it was not coq au vin.
