Disappointing. This used to be the best local cafe. What’s happened? Today’s very slow service, despite restaurant being very empty, we took our order to the counter as no one had been near us in 10 minutes. Then when the food arrived, stingy amount of avocado on tough toast with reheated dried up bacon. Egg and bacon brioche was fine. But £33+ for that and 2 coffees was a joke. Even the complimentary bottle of water was warm. Won’t be going back anytime soon.

Had some fabulous meals at The Black Swan, Barwick. James the chef definitely knows how to cook! the standard is far superior to ‘pub grub’. Loved the recent Timothy Taylor paired tasting menu, delicious & beautifully presented.

Visited The Old Moot House for the first time to try their new smokehouse menu. Firstly the welcome was extremely warm and genuine, and we chatted over a drink in the bar whilst looking at the menu. There was a good selection to choose from, and we opted for the smoked meat platter. It was phenomenal! The quality of the cuts was excellent and the flavour simply delicious - the meat just melted. The sides were very nice, especially the potato cakes. Unfortunately, I didn’t leave enough room for dessert, but will be back to sample one (as well as a cocktail, when I’m not driving). Highly recommend this charming restaurant.

The transformation of the Brasserie and continued excellence of the food has made this into a wonderful dining experience. A sensible choice of starters and main courses. Wonderful wine list at sensible prices offering wide range of well researched wines from around the world.

Besvikna!

We visited here back in March as we'd been drinking at the Picturedrome. Last minute decision as the weather was poor, but what a pleasant surprise. Amazingly, it being a Saturday evening, there was just one other couple dining. I am absolutely delighted to see the reviews on here because they are so well deserved. All I remember was that the food was delicious and the chef came out between courses to deliver some tasty nibbles. He described his creation with a real passion. I have the bill and we had the onion bhajis and then the Saag and confit de poulet for mains. A nice bottle of Shiraz was £25. This review has reminded me I need to make a reservation sooner rather than later.

Visited here at Lunchtime and had the Full English with Coffee, The Food was nice and well cooked as was the other meal we ordered. Good value for money with two Breakfasts with Coffee coming to £20. The Venue also has a great selection of Cakes, a lovely French Cafe with table service and a nice setting

Such a shame they’ve closed So glad we had the chance to stay at this magical place run by a lovely couple & a slightly arthritic golden retriever. Best full English I’ve had & magnificent dinner. If you see this by some chance, you may be gone but aren’t forgotten. Simon Rhodes

The holiday had not gone well so far. Expectations were low. Delighted to be proved wrong. Welcomed and seated quickly in an interesting building with a history. This well established restaurant is owned and run by husband (Chef) and wife (front of house) team, Mr & Mrs Harris. Starters were Grilled Scallops and Crab Florentine. Perfectly cooked scallops, the Crab Florentine a subtle blend of texture and flavour. A palate cleanser of Thyme sorbet was served, a distinctive but intriguing subtle flavour. (Chef kindly gave me the recipe.) Main courses were Roast Monkfish on a risotto bed and an excellent whole (which was deboned on request) Dover Sole in chive butter sauce. We managed one dessert between us, Treacle Tart, which we enjoyed but perhaps a step too far! Washed down with good reasonably priced Viognier. Simply and classically presented dishes, cooked with professional excellence. Not a tweezer in sight. A most enjoyable and interesting evening.
