An excellent small restaurant serving exceptional food, in particular the fish choices. Owned and operated by the chef and head waitress timing bookings to ensure efficient service to diners. Not the cheapest but worth every penny. I can’t think I’ve ever had a better 3 course dinner. Smoked salmon and white crab meat to start with followed by Dover sole and chocolate torte with blackcurrant sorbet to finish, all washed down with a lovely rose Sancerre. Will most certainly return.

Unacceptable behaviour , very rude and unprofessional, they didn’t even want us to book, not sure why the business is open, my wife asked for availability and was rudely told not accepting any bookings at the moment by the old weird owner, who kept looking at my younger daughters up and down , luckily the restaurant next door was opened and we managed to save our evening with a lovely family run place. Stay clear!!!

We came to Harris's during our weekend stay in Penzance. The food was absolutely amazing. We had the terrine starter & scallops. The fillet steak (cooked to perfection) and the lobster, followed by the chocolate tarte and lemon soufflé. Thoroughly enjoyed the Thyme sorbet pallet cleanser (I would have ordered more if it was a menu option!). The service was excellent and everyone was very friendly. Highly recommend the Amaretto too, it was delicious. Would definitely eat here again. Excellent food, without being pretentious.

We visited this restaurant for a belated anniversary meal. Our starter was a crab salad which was absolutely delicious. A superb salad dressing. We were then served a mouth refreshing thyme sorbet. For mains my wife chose the whole John Dory and I had the monkfish, both courses expertly cooked and well presented. All in all another great meal at a great restaurant which has been in the same hands for over 40 years.

My husband and I were really disappointed with our meal. My starter, scallops, was more salad with a sauce that did m not go with the scallops. We both took lobster, it was over cooked and lacked flavour. Our most expensive meal during our week around Cornwall and was the worst unfortunately. We follow and eat in many Michelin star restaurants and unsure how this restaurant managed to make the grade. We were really looking forward to trying this place out. The staff were friendly and efficient

A rare evening out with the husband. We each had a starter, main, shared cheese board, dessert, coffee, and the other half had a 1/2 bottle of good wine. For all of these high-quality local ingredients, the bill was around £150. Which we felt was very good value. I highly recommend the Crab Florentine and wish I had it as a main and not just a starter! Home-made treacle tart was divine! Some might feel the restaurant is a bit dated, but I say it is traditional, just right. A family business, doing what they know and enjoy, and doing it well. Service unrushed, personable, chef checking we were happy - a nice touch!

Lovely find - via Trip Advisor before we went. Top quality food. Including service and everything £150 in total. Which was two starters, two mains, shared cheese board, two desserts, coffee and 1/2 bottle of wine. The lemon souffle covered in chocolate and Crab Florentine are highly recommended. On a par with any Michelin recommended restaurants. The service was just right, no rush to turn around a table - able to enjoy the night at our own pace.

We ate here at the start and the end of our holiday in the Isles of Scilly. We have been before and we were delighted to find that it has survived the pandemic problems and still serves up wonderful fish. It must be close to being one of our favourite restaurants anywhere and it is so sad that is is so far from London and we can only go so rarely, although I'm not sure we could afford to go too often! Husband enjoyed it so much he had the same meal both times - scallops & John Dory. The crab cakes & roast monk fish were also excellent. Service was charming and well-timed - no rush and no long waits, and time for a bit of a chat as well. We will be back.

Although I have lived locally for many years, this was my first meal here. First impressions were of a classic restaurant that has probably seen little change over the years but if it works, why change it, the focus here is not on the décor but on the food. Found by chance. Having already tried to get a table at 3 restaurants we saw a board down a narrow alley. This was our last chance before giving up and getting a take away. The restaurant only had 1 table occupied not a good sign when elsewhere everything was busy. However coats were soon whisked away. The restaurant is very traditional in style. As I was driving I only had a glass of house wine but thought the wine list was limited and expensive. The food menu isn't large but a good range of foods. Also pricy but the food was excellent. Most starters are fish based - the salmon with crab was excellent. Between courses a sorbet is served. the mains are also really well cooked. Excellent food, good traditional service. We decided to try Harris's restaurant having been by it many times and we weren't disappointed! Wow it was good! It is a classic, the service is very unobtrusive which I must admit I prefer, we were served by a waitress who was trained to a high standard like they used to be, attentive but with your privacy in mind. The menu is excellent and included fresh fish and game, you can tell the chef has been classically trained and is very experienced, he prepares the fish and the meat, makes his own sauces, in fact nothing that can be made is brought in, we had a Thyme sorbet in between our starter and main which was amazing! You must try the sorbets which again are made in house, they are fabulous. The prices are in mid to upper range i.e. £21.00 for a main course but well worth it, we are so glad we found Harris's, Penzances' hidden gem!

Both piping hot and well presented. For mains I enjoyed a roasted John Dory with pesto whilst my wife enjoyed roast monkfish with wild mushrooms and saffron sauce. We had high expectations but ended up being a little bit disappointed. Harris's try hard to give the impression that they are slightly more up-market than they actually are. Great service is of course an imperative. They were very attentive, sometimes even a little bit too much. The fish we chose (John Dory) was good but over done. The vegetables were good but a bit boring. The starter (crab meat with parmesan, grilled) was good but the parmesan dominated too much. The dessert was very good (without any but's). All-in-all a very good meal, but not value for money according to what we expected.

The décor may not be to everyone's taste, but the food and service by far make up for that. This is the quintessential marriage of excellent food with perfect service. It doesn't come cheap, but it is well worth spending for, even at the expense of cutting back on a visit or two to a 'cheaper' establishment. A trip to Harris's is a must every time I visit Penzance. The restaurant is family run, intimate and exquisitely tastefully decorated. Service is courteous, thoughtful and friendly. There is a fairly limited menu of seafood, steaks and lamb - all ingredients sourced locally. The cooking is excellent - I enjoyed duck terrine with chutney, followed by a whole lobster (first catch of the season) with a delightful white wine and saffron sauce - the saffron being from India which is the one exception to the local ingredients comment. I just about had room for a creme brule after this and came away with my appetite blissfully satisfied. Once you have dined here, you will want to come back and again. I should also add that the washrooms upstairs are of a very high standard with complimentary Cologne.

Have dined here several times with my family and although it's quite pricey, the quality is always superb and the service excellent. I never baulk at paying for quality and frankly if you want a huge plate of gut busting food then go to the local Brewers Fayre! A delightful tucked away spot almost next door to Mackerel Sky. Upmarket and intimate, a thoroughly pleasant meal and I'd recommend a visit.

We had a wonderful meal on Saturday evening. My husband had smoked salmon and crab as a starter. The dressing on the salad was excellent. My main course was a wonderfully tender venison steak and once again the sauce was to die for. Many thanks Ann and Rodger for making our anniversary meal so memorable.

Booked a meal here for our wedding anniversary (41st!) on our most recent visit to Penzance. Restaurant was very quiet with only four diners, ourselves and another couple. We shared a starter of pate which was very good and sufficient for the two of us as neither wanted a large portion. The steak I had for a main course was equally good in quality if just a tad overcooked ( I requested rare and felt that it was actually more towards medium) but maybe I am being slightly 'picky' as the flavour was first class. My wife selected a crab salad and was equally impressed. No deserts, just coffee.Only had a glass of house wine each but they were both quality. As others have stated, the decor is a trifle 'pink' and the background music was not to my taste but the former is certainly not intrusive neither does it affect the taste of the food and the latter is exactly that, 'taste'. I prefer classical to jazz (or maybe it was 'blues'?)!Service was matched the food, attentive but not intrusive.I would certainly recommend this establishment for those special occasions.

Tucked away in a cobbled street Harris's is must on our holidays, we have been going here for quite a few years and it never disappoints. Mr Harris cooks the most amazing food and I would recommend the crab florentine I have tried others but nothing compares to his and also the Dover sole which is just to die for.

A small traditional restaurant serving excellent, mainly fish dishes, in a pleasant colourful old-fashioned room. The patronne was knowledgable and helpful, the staff friendly and attentive. Our food was imaginative and well-prepared. The wines were exceptional. A pity so few diners were there on a Saturday night. People of Penzance wake up!"

Staying round the corner in the Union Hotel, I had dinner here on one evening of my stay in Penzance. I liked everything about it. I had Newlyn crab salad followed by whole Dover sole, cooked to absolute perfection. Excellent.

Tucked away in New Street we booked here on a recommendation. Some restaurants are excellent but not in the same class as a top restaurant. Harris's is right there. If you want plush and showy decor then this won't fulfil that, as some reviews mention it is cosy and pink. We had no problems with that. When we go out we want three things - good food, good service and value for money in that order. The food was very high quality for all three courses we had. The service was excellent, waiting staff were very attentive but not over so, the chef was willing to converse and informative, as well as being highly qualified and his wife who runs front of house was also very welcoming and attentive. We returned for a second time during the week and she remembered what we had drunk previously, even down to the types of coffee. The restaurant isn't cheap but you get what you pay for, quality. If we did't think it was value for money we wouldn't have returned. Next time in the South West it will be our first port of call.

The entrance to this restaurant is very much like a side door to a pub. Once through the door you are greeted by a sea of coral coloured decor. We nearly discounted this place on those first impressions. However, after 3 courses, we were pleased we gave it a shot. Each course was really good - our last Cornish night saw us get through scallops, king prawns in garlic, John Dory (stand out dish), lobster, iced souffle in a chocolate case and the inevitable cheese board. Reasonably priced and well put together, so I would recommend this above the other establishments we tried in the last couple of weeks.

This small but elegant family run restaurant is beyond compare. The food was unbelievable, the staff very attentive and apart from the chair being a little hard you could not fault this long standing restaurant. It has survived for years for several obvious reasons. Quaint but there is nothing

Incredible. Always go back to this place. Spectaular food - the service is outstanding - the food is classy, tasty and most importantly - FRESH. Awesome wine list. On average I spend jsut over £100 for 2 people here for two courses and wine - but well worth it. Always visit it when we're near Penzance. Don't tell everyone though - I like it to stay a secret!

However long this (very good) restaurant has been here, it feels like it might be longer. It is the 1970s revisited. Visually - lots of pink and red. Architecturally - down an alley, cobblestoned, opposite a pub where they used to show Sky Sports to half a dozen saddening men (self plus son included), small leaded light windows. The menu is similarly 1970s. Dover sole grilled, perfectly, that kind of thing. Properly simple crab salads etc. Lamb in the pink. Sauces are old French style - a mode of cooking that has just about disappeared. I think it was Dr Who sitting at the next table - the Tom Baker one, that is. Wine list is a little more expensive than it should be but the food is cheaper than you think it's going to be - because vegetables etc are included. The owner (Mr Harris?) is the bloke in the kitchen. His wife (Mrs Harris?) does front of house. The (more than) acceptable face of 1970s revivalism. Despite passing it many many many times over many many many years, I had doubts. I was wrong.

We were in Penzance for a few days and most of the restaurants are either pubs or 'bistro' style which is fine, but Harris's offers a very different experience as it's a 'proper' restaurant with table cloths, lovely service and great food in true chef patron style, where quality counts. I had the crab salad to start followed by john dory, which was by far the best thing I have eat in Cornwall. The decor is a little on the traditional side, but sometimes we all just want traditional quality and Harris's certainly offers this. If you are looking for a good quality meal, with an quiet ambience with no bang bang music then this is well, not the cheapest but well worth paying that bit extra. Booking is advisable.

I want three things from a restaurant: friendly service, good value and good food. This restaurant fails on two and half of these. We phoned to book a table and requested 7.30pm. We were offered 7pm or 8pm. Fair enough…we said 7pm will do, though we remained the only diners until 7.35pm.Either one or both of us smelt, or the proprietor had been chewing wasps earlier in the day, which may account for the unfriendly, no…..almost rude welcome!I ordered Crab Florentine for a starter, which was more Florentine than crab, but my partner’s starter was a disaster. It was meant to be a warm goats cheese salad. Now, with warm goats cheese you have to put it on something to cook it , (bread, a tomato, apple)or it just spreads. They ingeniously got around it through a liberal interpretation of ‘warm’, possibly it had been passed over a light bulb, or left in a warm draught. Anyway, the result was a bit of tepid goats cheese on a few leaves.I had requested the moules mariniere, for a main course, and asked if it came with chips (me thinking moules frites!). Chips clearly fall into the same culinary territory as pop tarts or pot noodles in this restaurant, for chips there were none as I was forcefully told. So as there were no frites to go with the moules, I opted for the fillet steak, rare. It came medium, with a decent bearnaise sauce, haricots vert and some bland sautéed potatoes. My partner ordered the goujons of sole, which were very nicely done, homemade tartare sauce and the same selection of vegetables. The wine list would be quite impressive for a Michelin starred restaurant, but this one just has a Michelin mention sticker in the window. So, its comprehensive and expensive. We chose an organic pinotage, which was OK, but at £25 a good mark up for Harris’s. Did I detect a hint of sulphur…surely not, it may just a have been the residue of our welcome? The desserts were very good indeed and left us somewhat cheered. A lovely treacly, treacle tart with chocolate ice cream and a chocolate torte, with a dark fruit semi fredo coulis. The décor of the restaurant is well….pink. I found that of the gents (nice paintings!) more memorable. Throughout the evening (a Saturday), the number of diners never reached double figures, which surely should be cause for reflection. The meal came to £99 with the pre-added service charge. I hope the two young waitresses, who did all the emotional labour got all of the latter. I would have asked for it to be deducted, but the Harris’s had custody of our coats and it was a wild night out there!

Just had a wonderful lunch at Harris...found it by chance and what a find! Lovely fresh seafood, beautifully cooked and so fresh and tasty, puds to die for...I love lemon deserts and my frozen lemon soufflé did not disappoint,,,,followed by limoncello and coffee,,,,,and it was wonderful. We will be back, and I recommend anyone to go off the main road and sample the menu,,,,you will not be disappointed! We were the only people lunching today, so had the luxury of a lovely chat with the owners, which added to a most enjoyable lunch.

Harris's is a wonderful gem to have found. Will return again and again!Food is fabulous and front of house is run expertly by Anne.I can recommend the scallops starter, Dover sole for main and treacle tart for pudding. Also house wines are very good and provide a bargain.

By far the best restaurant in Penzance. been my favourite for many years. It always serves beautiful, mouthwatering cuisine. Run by a husband and wife team, nothing is too much trouble, no rushing, the table is yours for the evening. Ideal for a romantic date, birthday or anniversary. Not the cheapest but well worth paying that bit extra. It's tucked down a little side street opposite the Humphry Davy statue. So can be missed by tourists, so us locals are spoilt. It's fairly small and intimate so booking is advisable.

Wow are we glad we found this little gem ⭐️ We were looking for Crepes & spotted the little sign & were pleasantly surprised by the quality of dishes served 😀 We saw a family having amazing waffles & ice cream with caramel biscoff, another the pancake maple bacon stack and we choose one savoury garlic mushrooms 🍄 & one lemon n sugar which were delicious 😋 and complimented with a great size cup if tea 🍵 Worth sitting inside for on a sunny day as not much outside seating. Very friendly server, good value & hoping to get there again before we leave Thankyou 🥰

Had seen the restaurant advertised as 3 AA rosette but have since found out that is under review due to change of chef. Restaurant was dimly lit with nearby table resorting to using torch on his phone to read menu. Had the scallops which were average and small . Pork was okay as main course but not a large portion. Cheeseboard was average. Was expecting more from what was a listed restaurant.

What a fantastic place for our celebratory meal. We were on holiday, staying just up the road, and saw this restaurant in a review. I am especially drawn to food flavours, quality and presentation, and Edie's met my need 100%. Service was perfect, thank you nameless person doing up your house, you also helped to make the evening special. I will not recommend a specific dish because when we next pass we will definitely return to eat here and try a different combination. Thoroughly recommend, visit is often as you can.

I placed an order online with the intention of these being a present. I placed the order and chose the date for delivery. The recipient waited in all day and no delivery. I have tried calling the land-line and mobile numbers associated to this business but no one has answered. I have also sent an email as well as a message Facebook messenger but they have gone unanswered too. Poor service considering the price they charge.
