Beautifully quaint in this hidden gem. My sister and I both ordered the charcuterie plate...one was enough for 2..delicious. The mussels (ordered on an adjacent table, but sadly sold out when we came to order) looked divine. Definitely recommend if you are in town! First class service too!

It was not bad, but way overpriced. We left almost £500 per person there, but the food was not nearly as good as at other three-star restaurants we’ve been to (e.g. the nearby Sketch is half the price, but much more inventive and thoughtful with their cooking. The food was prepared perfectly, of course. And the staff were extremely professional. I can’t fault their technical execution. The food, however, felt like it was designed to appeal to one’s sense of self-importance, rather than one’s tastebuds. As an example, they offered a caviar dish, where all of the flavour was really coming from a much stronger oyster sauce in it. What’s the purpose of putting expensive caviar on it if it’s not going to be tasted behind the oyster? It’s just there so you could tell yourself “I’m successful and important, I eat caviar”. £85 down the drain. Again, most of the dishes were tasty, just not worth the money they’re asking. The only real fail was the rhubarb: they served very cold sorbet hidden beneath warmer ingredients, which gave me a brain freeze and made my teeth ache. I would expect a three-starred chef to have thought of this possibility, but they didn’t. Was it some intern who made that dish? We’ll never know.

We went here as we had Tesco vouchers which I think a lot of people had and this may explain the prices for the food you get. You had to pick off the a la carte menu, I had Beef Bourguignon for £18.35 which contained two pieces of beef and a large amount of beefy mushrooms on a bed of mash. It looked very meaty but only two pieces. The King Prawn starter was nice at nearly ten pounds. There was quite a wait to be served as there seemed to be a changeover from the breakfast to the lunch sitting and someone from the kitchen staff ended up running out with the starters. If I did not have the Tesco vouchers I would not have been very happy at the prices charged, but the restraunt is still getting those full prices for the vouchers used I presume. The thing is you would never visit again based on the price for the mushroom Bourguignon and also the Cesar salad which was about £14 and you had to pay extra for chicken.

This was our usual, pre-Christmas, family get together at BB - albeit minus grand-daughter but plus, for the first time, the family dog, who was well looked after Orders were taken promptly - by the waitress we had met on previous visits - and the starters appeared at the expected time. Then we could tell that something had gone wrong - as our 'mains' of those and other diners, did not appear. Eventually we learnt that there had been a genuine medical emergency in the kitchen - causing a 30 minutes delay. That gained our sympathy but a much earlier explanation would have been a good idea. Starters were fine - being of the usual quality but unfortunately there were aspects of the 'mains' that were not up to the usual standards - presumably due to the disruption in the kitchen. In fairness, to compensate for the delay, we were offered desserts 'on the house' but could not risk missing a train or being late for the school pick up respectively, plus the dog had been very patient for longer than expected to be needed (as had we known about the 30 minutes delay, he could have had a walk between courses) - so had to decline. Despite the issues, we did still pay the usual gratuity - as the problems were not down to our waitress and it must have been difficult for the kitchen staff with the head chef having to go off site in the middle of service.

We love coming to Crab House Cafe, but it seems the menu hasn’t changed much in 3 years. I would expect to see exciting dishes like Whole Plaice, Dover Sole, Turbot, Monkfish, John Dory. Instead there was Gurnard, Sea Bass, Haddock, Pollock, Ray Wings, Lemon Sole twice. Seems to be the cheaper fish only. Lemon sole is very cheap and there was 2 different dishes of this, why? It’s great to have crab, mussels, oysters, etc but please try and use the best white fish. I actually made this point to the cafe 3 years ago so I won’t hold my breath.

Bit of retail therapy followed by lunch at Rouge. We enjoyed a glass of wine while waiting for our meal, had the two course menu. The chicken was fine, if a little tough and apple tart and ice cream delicious. I wish I’d asked the name of the waitress as she was charming, made us smile every time she spoke to us. We didn’t wait long for our food and will certainly come again in our next shopping trip.

We met up for a meal at the Bistro last Wednesday evening. As always we were made very welcome and the service throughout was excellent. I love the extra touches and they are very accommodating. We all really enjoyed our meals. Although a service charge was added we were told that we could have it removed which I think is reasonable. I will definitely recommend the Bistro to others.

We came to have dinner at Côte for Valentine’s Day! The food was amazing and we had a great time. This is the second time I come here and the staff is always welcoming and friendly. I have been to other Côte and this one is by far the best. Everytime we come to Gloucester we have dinner here. Thanks again.
