Meghdoots Mystique Masala

Petworth, Chichester
05/11/2018: After reading other reviews and being told by locals how good it was we were quite disappointed, the lamb was quite tough, nothing out of the ordinary, been to many better.
04/11/2018: The general consensus of reviews capture what you need to know about this place and why you need to make time to dine here. Book in advance to avoid disappointment. Be careful not to overface yourself by ordering too much. We found this lot too much for us - 1 special starter, 3 papadums w/ pickle tray, 2 mains, 2 breads, 1 side. 1 rice. We should have ditched 1 of the mains or been prepared to take the leftovers home, as they are happy to accommodate. Their Gerwürztraminer is decent version of this wine which traditionally partners well with spicy food. It’s all well priced, good value, good service too. The donut dessert is on point but may be a little oily for some palates. If you’re at all uncomfortable with aniseed, don’t be tempted with the closing, and beautiful looking, bowl you’re presented with.

The Stag Inn

Petworth, Chichester, >100£
09/11/2018: We have been intending visiting the Stag Inn for some time (about two years!) following various recommendations from friends. Finally we did so on Thursday only to find that the pub had changed hands...but we need not have worried!!
06/11/2018: Very friendly pub, welcomed our golden retriever with dog biscuits and water. The food was good and lovely friendly service - all in front of a log fire.

The Horse guards inn

Petworth, Chichester
09/11/2018: We just happened across this wonderful pub / restaurant by chance having seen the sign on the main road from Petersfield to Petworth and we weren't disappointed.
06/11/2018: Great food, caring staff, and lovely surroundings. What more could you ask? This was a surprise dinner and it didn't fail to impress. Everyone enjoyed the evening, even our 3 dogs that accompanied us!

Petworth, Chichester
10/11/2018: We had a very enjoyable meal here. Not the cheapest in the area but the food was excellent and the staff were particularly accommodating with regard to multiple food allergies. We would eat here again
30/10/2018: Visited here when staying at The Old Railway Station. Very convenient as no need to drive anywhere. The food was really delicious and the service was very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended.

Tiffins Tea Room

Petworth, Chichester
12/11/2018: Having stopped in Petworth for brunch before a walk on Sunday, we came upon this little cafe and were not disappointed. It transpired that the cafe had been taken over only last week by the new owners and they were trying really hard to create a great experience, nice pastel decor, quirky and colourful lights, pictures and menu boards. Everyone welcome, toys for the kids, even some well behaved dogs visited. Service was friendly, welcoming and nothing too much trouble. Food was great and although not tried this time, choices of yummy cakes looked great. Lovely to have a choice of hot chocolate, white, milk or dark, can definitely recommend the dark one! Will definitely be back.
14/10/2018: Visited Tiffins on a busy Saturday for lunch, which was worth waiting for. The lady did say that it would be a wait which was fine, so enjoyed the cup of tea. Excellent service that happily catered for gluten free diets.

The Black Horse Inn

Petworth, Chichester
11/11/2018: Really good pub for food and drink, log fire kept the whole pub warm. Food was fantastic will definitely be returning.
28/10/2018: Had a very bad start to lunch at The Well Diggers round the corner. Had to leave because after 40 minutes they had not cleared our table from the previous meal. Went to the Black Horse, 3 minutes away, instead. It is a little scruffy but in a charming way. Very polite and pleasant staff, excellent value, very good beer and possible one of the best fish and chips I have had in a long time. I normally do not like mushy peas but these were superb. A really good traditional country pub.

The Leconfield

Petworth, Chichester, 45-60£
18/02/2018: My husband and I were visiting the area from London and booked a table at the Leconfield as it had amazing reviews.
18/02/2018: The food was excellent and was also delivered at appropriate intervals between courses.

The Swan Inn

Petworth, Chichester
03/11/2018: Our last night in England and we stayed about 3km down the road. The lady running the b&b; recommended The Swan, so we tried it out and were not disappointed. They had a special dish, lobster mac and cheese, which both of us tried. I am not a mac and cheese person, but we both agreed it was an excellent meal. Service was good, and we had an enjoyable last evening in England.
30/10/2018: Have been meeting friends for lunch every few months here for the last few years. Since it changed hands, it no longer caters for a 'light lunch' clientele (and there was very little vegetarian choice). The food may be very nice, but it was expensive.

The Angel Inn

Petworth, Chichester, <20£
05/11/2018: We ate here for lunch, dinner and breakfast! We usually like to go to lots of different places to eat, but the food was so good we only tried one other place during our stay. Service was quick and efficient, food was lovely!
27/10/2018: Dog and Coeliac friendly, and good range of drinks as well. Looking forward to our next visit already.

The Star

Petworth, Chichester, 30-45£
02/10/2018: It’s totally shut up. No sign of life in the place for over 2 weeks.. no sign to say why it’s closed or when it will open. What could have gone so wrong here ?
18/09/2018: Nice atmosphere with friendly staff. Stopped off for some light refreshments on a Saturday afternoon after browsing the shops in Petworth. felt relaxed and welcome.

Basmati Indian Restaurant Petworth

Petworth, Chichester, <20£
16/10/2018: My regular Indian when I am in Petworth. Was last there in September and as usual it didn't disappoint Onion bajis are particularly worth it as a starter. All tastes catered for
29/09/2018: A charming restaurant. A warm greeting with quick service and the food was the best food that we have had in a long time. We decided last night to ditch our regular indian and transfer our allegiance to the Basmati. Thank you Guy's

Coco cafe

Petworth, Chichester
23/10/2018: The warm savoury tarts were delicious. I had leek and cheddar my companion chose onion and goats cheese. Both were perfect and served with olive bread and salad. All washed down with good coffee. Just right for us. We enjoyed the traditional feel and the friendly service.
25/09/2018: Enjoyed our visit to this cosy family run coffee shop. Salad, sandwiches, coleslaw and coffee all very yummy. We were served by a very pleasant young lady. The cafe and toilet area was clean and comfortable. We would definitely recommend.

The Stonemasons Inn Restaurant

Petworth, Chichester
05/11/2018: We last visited here 3 years ago and a lot can change during that time. We were out on bikes and it was nice bright but cold'ish day.
03/11/2018: We really enjoyed our Sunday Lunch at the Stonemasons. Good hearty portions of delicious traditional roast and plenty of veg. Such a welcomed change from the 'designer meals' often offered! Lovely friendly staff, good value. An all round enjoyable meal! We'll come again. Thank you Stonemasons!

The Hungry Guest Cafe

Petworth, Chichester, <20£
12/11/2018: Bad handling of guests by the staff members, food distinctly average and not as described. I ordered a mustard mash but it was just plain, dry mashed potato. Okay but nothing special
11/11/2018: Me and my friend come to petworth today and come across a little cafe called ‘The Hungry Guest’ in a very pretty street and thought we would try it out, as we opened the door we was greeted with nothing but smiles which made us feel welcomed even though we could see that it was busy these girls still managed to get us a table very quickly.

Petworth House

Petworth, Chichester
05/11/2018: Went to the stunning gardens at Petworth House and had delightful soup at the cafe. Ideal for families.
27/10/2018: We had lunch here, as we generally do when visiting National Trust properties. Perhaps because it was half-term and therefore the Café was pretty full, it wasn't as good as we have experienced elsewhere. We ordered baked potatoes with tuna which was made to order and took 15 minutes arrive, but they were quite dry. The potatoes were massive, more potato than tuna, and there was no butter to moisten them, so we added salad cream to give some moisture to the dish.
