Tiffins Tea Room

Petworth, Chichester
30/08/2018: After a lovely few days in the area we promised our daughters we would end our trip with an Afternoon Tea. This place looked lovely however as soon as we set foot in the door we were regretting it and wish we had of turned round. We had a rather unfriendly ‘welcome’ from an older member of staff and shown to a table where our salt and pepper pots were immediately taken away and a couple of magnetic doodle boards were quickly given to the children. On the table was a notice for a special teatime treat consisting of sandwiches, scone, cake and tea/coffee.The lady came to take our order and my partner ordered this. He was abruptly told he could not have it unless everyone on the table had it. She said it was so one wasn’t ordered and shared. We said we are all ordering other things but she flatly refused to sell the ‘teatime treat’ . Rather confused we ordered other sandwiches. My girls, aged 4 and 7, were brought there two sandwich squares on a plastic plate accompanied by a rather chewed up plastic fork. Had they have been babies in high chairs I wouldn’t have minded (by the way we also had our 1year old with us and were not offered a high chair or chair so she had to sit on our lap to eat) but they stopped using baby cutlery along time ago. We decided not to hang around for the cake and scones so paid just short of £30 for our rather average sandwiches and 4 drinks. I am sure if we did not have children we would have been welcomed with open arms but the attitude and disapproving looks of the woman were appalling. Perhaps they should add a sign on the door to say ‘no children allowed’ to save her the trouble of having to them set foot in her cafe.
26/08/2018: My husband and I popped in as we walked round the town Very friendly Purchased some home made jam and Chutney Had tea coffee and victory spounge Well worth a visit

Badgers

Petworth, Chichester
22/08/2018: Popped in for a quick drink before checking into our railway carrage stay, next door. A lovely friendly pub with a great selection of drinks. We sat out in the garden on a sultry afternoon and ended up staying ages. Peaceful and lovely. We returned in the evening for dinner, and enjoyed a lovely steak and a burger....but there were also lots of other exciting and different things available. Candle lit tables and a nice setting made the whole experience enjoyable.
21/08/2018: I cannot fault the food, I just found the menu limited and the kitchen seems to always miss something of the plate. The pub its self is lovely and welcoming. I would go back

The Star

Petworth, Chichester, 30-45£
20/08/2018: We went for lunch and sat outside watching the world go by in the middle of ancient, beautiful Petworth. Inside was nice and there is a courtyard too. Decent wine. Good pub grub: we had Homemade Fishfinger sandwich and a veggie option, both nice £20 together. Served to us at table, friendly staff. All good: apart from no parking at pub and limited in town square - seek out the public car park 100 yards away.
18/08/2018: We were on the way home to London when we decided to stop for a bit in Petworth to look around as on tbe way to Bognor Regis we went through it and looked lovely little town.

The Black Horse Inn

Petworth, Chichester
24/07/2018: It is in a nice location with a great view. Unfortunately the view is completely spoiled by ugly red beer umbrellas! The food was good. The service was good. It is quite cramped inside. But there is a lovely sense of authenticity about this pub.
16/07/2018: Stayed in annexe for 2 nights very comfortable had a meal in the pub on the Friday night service was very good friendly staff. Food was lovely freshly cooked . busy little country pub. Would definitely stay here again if near the area

The Angel Inn

Petworth, Chichester, <20£
29/08/2018: My wife and I called in, on the way to visit her birth mother. We must have met her for the first time 12 years ago, having vlund her after a long search, bjt that is another story.
20/08/2018: We’d heard good things about this place but were seriously disappointed with both our main courses - a tired and bland salad and a pulled pork dish that appeared to be 98.4% cornichons. Service was fine and friendly but our experience fell so far short of its 4.5 star reputation, and it certainly isn’t a patch on The Star in Petworth. We won’t be back.

The Swan Inn

Petworth, Chichester
20/08/2018: After living only a short drive from the Swan in Fittleworth for years we thought we would try our luck! We had been hearing great things from friends about new owners and a new kitchen team and I can say 100% that by were right!
16/08/2018: This pub has had several owners in the last 10 years, at last it now had a great chef and a lovely landlady and friendly and helpful staff. The food is local and very tasty. The presentation is innovative. They also do great real ale.

The Stonemasons Inn Restaurant

Petworth, Chichester
28/08/2018: Our first choice for lunch had stopped serving food when we arrived but we found the Stonemasons was still going so we went there instead and I'm glad we did. Good bar menu, but we went for the house special bacon cheese burger which was pricey (£12) but excellent - a really well stacked bun with a good portion of chips and side salad too. And it is the first pub I've been to in a very long time where I was offered a taster of the draught beer before they pulled my pint. Now my first choice for a pub lunch after stomping the South Downs.
26/08/2018: We enjoyed a lovely evening at the pub, great choice on the menu and chilled wine. Highly enjoyable experience- thank you.

Coco cafe

Petworth, Chichester
28/08/2018: Having enjoyed a lovely walk in Petworth Deer Park we looked in town for a light lunch and found nearly every cafe /tea shop was closed! Glad we finally found Coco Cafe as it was perfect for us. Our dog was welcomed in. They do gluten free bread on sandwiches if required. I opted for Coronation Chicken salad which was very tasty (certainly tasted home made) and came with warm bread on the side. Tea in proper china cups & teapot. Cake selection looked good although we didn't try. It's small, but worth waiting for a table if there isn't one. Thank you for being open on the bank holiday!
27/08/2018: Nice little coffee shop for a quick lunch. Allows dogs and our springer was very welcomed - the tables aren’t crammed together so we sat on one in the corner so any one who isn’t so keen on dogs aren’t bothered

The Hungry Guest Cafe

Petworth, Chichester, <20£
27/08/2018: Nice enough , if pricey place with good decor and selection of dishes . But watch out - although it is open it stops food at lunchtime early , only offered us cakes at 2.40pm !
24/08/2018: I guess it's not the cafe's fault that as we drove through Petworth a big lorry got stuck in Park Street - we'd have parked at Petworth House but we veered instead into the town car park and walked up past this cafe. which we've been to a couple of years ago and enjoyed.

Petworth House

Petworth, Chichester
15/08/2018: Visited Petworth House a few days ago and had lunch at the cafe. The food was lovely. My husband had Smoked Haddock Gratin and I had a jacket potato. Expensive but large portion sizes and also do other snacks. Well worth a visit.
07/08/2018: Audit Room Cafe offer a very poor quality of sandwiches considering it is run and owned by the National Trust I recommend you bring your own
