Badgers

Petworth, Chichester
29/01/2019: Met friends here before Christmas for Sunday Lunch and met family here after Christmas for Sunday lunch. Parking can be a bit tricky outside the pub but we all managed to get parked easily. As usual the food was excellent, the service superb and the venue is great. Everyone got into the spirit and bought tickets for the meat raffle too.Good beer and wine too. Could not fault a thing, we will be back!
25/01/2019: I had arranged to visit the pub with a group of Motorcyclist after your friday run and rang in before we left our start point with the numbers which on this day was ten.

Meghdoots Mystique Masala

Petworth, Chichester
07/02/2019: Best curry ever. Not the cheapest but good value and some delicious dishes. To me this is proper authentic curry. We were well looked after by the staff.
06/02/2019: The food is tasty but very expensive for what you get, poppadoms at 80 pence each you can buy a packet for £1. and chutney £1.40 and beer at £5 a pint, lamb biryani £11.95 for a very mediocre dish all main dishes at £9.95 or more and vegetables dishes at £5.95 or more and nothing stands out it’s ok but not worth the price.

The Stag Inn

Petworth, Chichester, >100£
14/02/2019: The pub was pleasant, the landlord was welcoming and the food was very good if somewhat meagre so if you are hungry this is probably not the place for you. It took about fifty minutes before our meal arrived and, as there was only one other table with diners, I thought the wait was too long. Our pudding was really nice but the price for the meal was a bit on the high side and the time it all took was enough to make me think twice about returning. Nothing wrong with the pub but it is worth bearing in mind our experience.
12/02/2019: Welcoming, very new owners as well as there first time owning a pub but they are doing amazing work running it !!! Food quality is amazing.

The Horse guards inn

Petworth, Chichester
01/02/2019: Really friendly staff, decent wine list, great menu - Superb steak! All at very reasonable prices.
16/01/2019: We went there for a family celebration having been there before and having had an amazing meal. This time we were very disappointed . I had the lamb which was tasteless and a pudding which was little better . The venue is very pleasant in a lovely village just outside Petworth. Word on the street is that the chef has changed . Great shame !

Tiffins Tea Room

Petworth, Chichester
02/02/2019: Just had a fabulous breakfast at Tiffins. Staff are very friendly and welcoming and the food is amazing, well cooked and very fresh. Drinks are made to order and lovely to be able to have a soya coffee in a little town! Would definitely recommend, not to be missed if you are in Petworth!!
23/11/2018: Lovely sandwich lunch for two, we had a ham and mustard well when you say ham.... it was a wonderful hand cut gammon ham, in a malted bread. also a cheese and chutney. both accompanied by a small salad and a few crinkle cut crisps.

Basmati Indian Restaurant Petworth

Petworth, Chichester, <20£
26/01/2019: Visited the restaurant midweek early evening with friends. This was our second visit having thoroughly enjoyed the first. We were not disappointed, after a warm welcome and plenty of time to study the menu we were then presented with an array of dishes, all of which were superb. I often find dishes from other restaurants are often overly salted or swimming in ghee. None of the dishes here suffered these traits. 100% satisfied, would recommend it highly.....quirky underground premises too!
26/12/2018: I have been here twice in quick succession and its been brilliant! it’s only 15 mins away from me so I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to find it!

The Stonemasons Inn Restaurant

Petworth, Chichester
12/02/2019: We were staying at The Stonemasons Inn and on arrival on the Saturday morning we booked a table in the restaurant for dinner that evening. We booked for 8.00 pm - what we weren't told is that the kitchen closes at 8.30 pm!
11/12/2018: We called here in the summer and ate outside - lovely generous portions of food and very pleasant staff. This time we were inside with a roaring fire. The food was just as delicious and staff were as pleasant. My wife had the 3 fishcakes except they are now 2 because most diners were serious challenged by 3 oversize home made cakes. I had gammon, egg and chips. I would have preferred a slab of gammon rather than thin slices but it didn't spoil the enjoyment at all. we shall call in again.

The Swan Inn

Petworth, Chichester
07/02/2019: Visited for lunch. Limited and relatively high priced menu. Service was very good but the portions were small and not in proportion to the price. However, what there was was good quality and tasty. They need a wider selection of lunchtime snacks/meals and to price them more realistically. They may then get more customers that will improve the atmosphere.
04/02/2019: We had visited this country pub back in the spring of 2018 and thought it was charming and idyllic, how wrong could we be? We booked a room for 1st Feb 2019 to celebrate our joint birthdays (wife and myself). We arrived at 5 PM this afternoon after being told that we could book in from 2:00 PM and the lights were off and the place closed. Fortunately we could see someone in the back of the pub, so we ring the bell. When the person came to the door, he seemed surprised that we wanted to book in before the Pub opened at 6 PM. When we booked in, having booked B&B; we were informed the breakfast was Continental only, which surprised us, as the booking site didn't mention this and the room for the night was £110. We were also informed that they had a large party booked in that evening so we would have to place our food order before 7:30 if we wanted to eat. So we would have to get a move on if we wanted to freshen up and have a drink before eating. When we were led to our room, it was cold and damp, it's decor left a lot to be desired, the bathroom was very tired, dirty and cold, the room wasn't much better, not worth £110. The person who lead us to our room, then turned on the radiator, which was off and a space heater and said it might take a while to warm up, but we could have a drink in the bar while we waited. This obviously within the short time slot we had before we had to place our food order. We elected to stay in the room and to have a deep bath in order to warm ourselves and the room. Unfortunately there was only enough hot water for 1/2 a bath and there wasn't a hairdryer, so much for that great idea. We also didn't have a TV remote for the smallest TV in the world and the internet didn't work, so to the bar it is then. When we got to the bar, we were seated in a corridor part of a busy bar, not in the restaurant as requested. This was due to the size of the large party they were expecting (no room in the restaurant), we asked to move out of the corridor and eventually we were moved closer to the log fire, which also wasn't that effective as the logs were being severely rationed (2 logs burning for the whole bar area), so we were just as cold in our new location. We stuck with it as it was now 7:15 PM and had to get our food order in. The food itself was very nice, despite us being very cold at our table, but we enjoy the meal. After the meal we went back to the room, which had by now warmed up and off to bed for an early night. In the morning the Continental breakfast consisted of tea/coffee, orange juice, toast, croissant, cereal and a fruit yogurt. So off to MacDonald's it is then. We checked out, without being asked if we enjoyed our stay, or an apology for the way we were treated over the meal the evening before. Won't be coming back and will be informing all our family and friend not to make the same mistake as we did.

Coco cafe

Petworth, Chichester
10/02/2019: We were four adults stopped off for coffees, tea and hot chocolate plus toasted tea cakes, Lemon Victoria Sponge and Frudge Brownie. We also had a dog and were greated with a welcoming smile. Yes, would recommend, very relaxing and good quality food.
31/01/2019: Very pleasant ambience, often local art for sale - the coffee has always been very good every time we have visited - as have the scones and lunches - & the service is first rate.

The Black Horse Inn

Petworth, Chichester
24/01/2019: Extended family (with teenagers) outing for a Christmas Dal lunch, first time for everything. We decided to have lunch out for a change, and the Black Horse did us proud. Very relaxed afternoon, with lovely food, and even a free bottle of wine. Most of us had turkey, one had the beef, and all were good. Starters were good also, as were the desserts, cheese and coffee. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were charming throughout. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole event...many thanks ! Would return for a lunch anytime.
23/01/2019: My third lunch here and everyone has been great. Have tried a ploughmans, chips and fish, baguette with a side of chips. All freshly prepared with freshly made garnish. Even the lemon that came with the fish and chips was freshly cut, trimmed and de pipped. As it should be - but so many cant be bothered.

Petworth House

Petworth, Chichester
02/02/2019: We went up to the counter where there were two serving staff who did not acknowledge us and then promptly disappeared into a back room! A few minutes later they re-appeared, still didn't acknowledge us, then each disappeared in different directions. Another lady then appeared, but couldn't take our order. When we were served it was all quite grumpy and not very welcoming. Cheer up! However, on the plus side, it was great cake.
28/12/2018: Utterly disgusting "game pithivier" or soggy pie made of one dessertspoon of gristley flavourless mince and thick flabby tasteless pastry. Tiny portion of cabbage and sliced congealed potato slices which looked one week old all for £9.95. Horrific meal we will not return here to eat again. Do no recommend. In fact avoid at all costs.

The Hungry Guest Cafe

Petworth, Chichester, <20£
24/01/2019: I have to disagree with the terrible reviews posted earlier in January. Either they were very unlucky or their criticisms have been taken on board because we had lunch here today and couldn’t fault it. Lovely hot lattes (so many places serve them lukewarm), really tasty Welsh rarebit, delicious quiche, quick efficient service and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended!
10/01/2019: Situated within a deli store, the store itself has nice array of food including cooked meats, cheeses and olives etc. However the food sold in the shop doesn’t seem to be reflective of the food available in the cafe, in fact the cafe appears to be just an afterthought. This cafe could be and certainly has a lot more potential to be creative and adventurous, Limited seating on stools combined with having to queue to order with the shoppers and a slow service just didn’t cut the mustard for me, sorry!
