An excellent experience. Lunch was scrumptious, atmosphere so very welcoming. Staff very attentive, polite. A log fire burning inviting everyone to a lovely venue, created by a new management, who have created a superb venue…..which was very much required. I will recommend the Stonemasons 100%. I intend to visit on a regular basis. Well done and congratulations to Ken and Tracey and all staff. Thank you.

We visited the Stonemasons to watch the live music on Friday 30th August. What an amazing night! The singer was excellent, and we can’t wait to visit when he plays again in the next couple of weeks. Everyone was up dancing and having a lovely time. The atmosphere in the pub was fantastic, the new landlord has sure turned this pub around in the very short time it has been open. There were a mixture of age groups, and it appears a very family orientated pub which was lovely to see. The staff are really helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The food was amazing. We had prawns to start and rib eye steak for main. The steak was delicious and cooked to perfection. Then the homemade cookies and cream ice cream for dessert was out. of. this. world!! It’s left me craving more! For the food alone, I will be making a regular visit back to The Stonemasons. Give them a try. You will not be disappointed. The landlord goes above and beyond to engage with everyone, and we wish him and his team every success for the future.

We were in the area visiting friends and fell upon The Stonemasons Inn, Petworth. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by warm hospitality and an inviting atmosphere that set the stage for the afternoon. The staff at The Stonemasons were attentive without being intrusive, offering helpful recommendations and ensuring that we were well taken care of throughout our meal. We all opted for a roast dinner. The meat was cooked to perfection and accompanied by a lovely selection of seasonal vegetables. For dessert we all enjoyed the delicious homemade ice cream. It really was the most delicious ice cream I have ever tasted. I understand from speaking to the landlord that the Stonemasons only reopened a couple of weeks ago after almost a year of being closed. It is admirable to see a family working hard to make a success of a business that forms an important and integral part of the local community. As they openly admit, the pub is still a working project but I am looking forward to visiting The Stonemasons again next time we are in the area to see the further improvements made and to sample more of Chef’s homemade ice cream! 🍨 😋

I recently had the pleasure of visiting a local pub that came highly recommended by a friend. This pub has a bit of a history; it was once a beloved spot in the community but changed hands several times and eventually closed. Thankfully, it has now reopened, and I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed by what I found. Walking into the pub, I was immediately struck by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The space was filled with the lovely aroma of delicious food, and you could sense the excitement and anticipation from the locals, who had clearly been waiting for this place to make its comeback. The new hosts are putting in a tremendous amount of effort to breath life back into the pub, and it shows. I had a chance to chat with the owner, who mentioned that while it’s been a lot of hard work, they’re dedicated to making it a success again—a true labour of love and a work in progress. The food: it was simply excellent. Each dish was tasty, cooked to perfection, bursting with flavour, and presented beautifully. The menu offers something for everyone, from classic pub grub to more refined dishes. It’s clear that a lot of thought and care has gone into creating a diverse and appealing menu. The evening was made even more special by live music in the garden, performed by a talented young artist. His performance brought fantastic energy to the pub, and he managed to get everyone up and dancing—a remarkable feat for a solo artist! His charisma and musical talent were undeniable, and it was a delightful addition to the overall experience. One of the standout aspects of the night was the exceptional service. The bar manager, in particular, deserves special mention. He went above and beyond by taking the time to visit each table, checking in on guests, and ensuring everyone was enjoying themselves. His attentiveness and friendly demeanor made a significant difference and made us feel truly welcome and valued—a rare touch in today’s hospitality industry. Unfortunately, there was one small downside to the evening. A woman seated at the table next to us seemed determined to be the center of attention. She complained loudly about everything, regardless of how trivial, and was unnecessarily rude to the staff. Her behaviour was a bit distracting and took away from the otherwise wonderful ambiance. Interestingly, her son was the live music entertainer, and it was clear she wasn’t doing him any favours with her conduct. It’s a real shame because he was very talented and deserved the spotlight for his performance, not her disruptive antics. She was quite vocal about being his mother, to the point where it seemed she wanted everyone to know. Perhaps in the future, she might consider the impact of her behaviour on others and refrain from acting like a character out of "Keeping Up Appearances." Despite this minor hiccup, the overall experience was phenomenal. The food, the music, and the service—everything came together to create a memorable evening that I would gladly relive. I highly recommend this pub to anyone looking for a great night out. Just be prepared to encounter a colourful character or two, but hey, that’s all part of the pub experience, isn’t it? Well done Stonemasons Inn you are doing a sterling job!

The pub felt bleak when we arrived with no character. We walked past the ancient cattle trough to see if filled with builders rubbles and bedding plants on top. Strange way to cast your first impression of a newly opened pub!!! The staff were all fresh , friendly but not trained properly. Ken the manager was doing a great job but sadly was let down by poor service and shocking food. Ken is delusional if he believes his chef is great . Unfortunately what was being turned out was really not up to the standards you'd expect in that area. Prawns swimming in greasy liquid with salad floating around in it. You had to peel the prawns yourself hence getting covered in stinking prawns . Steak was a nightmare and 1/4 inch think like a minute steak not rib eye . No coffee available. The toilets were a disgrace. One trap had no light No light on entree And a hand towel for everyone to share . Now that's the way to share the germs . The men's had no paper and was flooded . The young lad behind the bar was an utter idiot dancing like a clown and totally unprofessional. Ken had his family in which was a distraction for him which I think he could do without. All in all we would never go back there are far superior pubs in the area which serve far better food . Live music in garden was great but everyone was freezer cold . Ken was adamant he wanted the singer outside but that was pretty silly as people stayed in the bar to keep out the cold . Lots and lots of work needed in the venue to get people coming back again and again. Stop trying to meet and greet with strangers and run the pub , head down and focus , get one of the girls to meet and greet . Also check the plates of food going out as honestly it's not as good as you crack it up to be .

We had family down from Gloucester and had gone for a walk around Petworth park, stopped off here for a drink and possibly staying to eat,we entered a were greeted straight away with a hello and big smile, asked if we were eating or just drinking we said possibly both so took menus outside to the garden,Barman (pos landlord) came out and asked if we had decided only as the kitchen was shutting in 10 mins not all of the 6of us had chosen so he came back a few mins later, chose our meals, decided to eat inside so they gave us a lovely big table, meal was absolutely wonderful everyone enjoyed it and had to have pudding even though the kitchen was officially closed we were still catered for. We couldn't recommend this place enough we were made to feel very welcome and not rushed at all and the service was fantastic. It was my partner and mine second time here and we were not disappointed it was just as good as last time. Well done we will be back.

Unfortunately I am not able to give this Inn a glowing review like the previous ones on their website . Two stars only because we got a good night sleep once the music from the pub stopped by 11pm and perhaps because we were tired from the day's activities at Goodwood. The facilities are less than adequate and lack in cleanliness. I’ll let the pictures do the talking! What was evident is the lack of attention to details i.e. one mug in the room; had to use our phones for lighting over the back door whilst standing under a drip from the pipe above. Can’t comment on breakfast as we didn’t have any. On our last day we were left a few slices of bread in a basket on a piece of jay cloth. Granted it could have been a new one but because they are used for cleaning it was off putting. There were four of us but only two bowls left and two open boxes of cereal but no milk or spoons. We will not be returning nor recommend the Stonemasons Inn

We stayed here on 17th December after a wedding nearby. It was very cold in our room with no way to adjust or turn on the radiator. We therefore slept in our clothes. We had booked breakfast for 9am the following morning. When we went down to the restaurant, there was nobody there, all the lights were off and no sign of breakfast. With no staff around we decided to leave. As we were loading the car at 9:30 a staff member appeared and said there was no breakfast as the chef was sick. Sickness can't be helped, but they could have rung us before 9 to let us know, and they could have offered us a cup of tea and a cold buffet with cereal / fruit / yoghurt even if there was no chef? We were very disappointed with our stay and despite our request have yet to receive a partial refund.

The pub is very handy for visits to Petworth House (NT) and Park (good for walks). The village is full of antique shops and you can visit the very nice church with some interesting architectural features, but don't expect to park in the village! Stopped here completely random and what a great surprise , great homely oak beamed pub, very warm welcome from all the staff, the food was excellent, and very reasonably priced, cannot praise it enough, the staff went the extra mile for us and would recommend this pub to everyone!

Our first choice for lunch had stopped serving food when we arrived but we found the Stonemasons was still going so we went there instead and I'm glad we did. Good bar menu, but we went for the house special bacon cheese burger which was pricey (£12) but excellent - a really well stacked bun with a good portion of chips and side salad too. And it is the first pub I've been to in a very long time where I was offered a taster of the draught beer before they pulled my pint. Now my first choice for a pub lunch after stomping the South Downs.

We took my Mother here for her birthday along with our two children - a traditional style pub but with contemporary décor and friendly staff.

We came across this place just by luck, drove past it late at night searching for somewhere to stay last minute, they told us check in normally closes at 9 but we could have a room, the staff went out of their way to help us out even though we turned up after hours, they even gave us free food and drinks, breakfast was great the rooms are lovely and clean. Couldn't have asked to have stumbled upon a better place!

Low-slung old pub on the edge of Petworth. Has clearly had a bit of an unfocussed refurb but it still feels more like a locals haunt than a destination eatery.

We stopped here for a drink on our way back from the coast last night, as we entered the pub were told it was closing - it was 830pm! No wonder so many pubs are going out of business if you don't open, we won't go there again! Funny how the manager has only replied on here to the people who have given good reviews not the unhappy customers, says it all !

We stayed at the Stonemasons Inn for my sisters wedding and had a family meal at the Inn the night before the wedding. We were a large party but the friendly staff coped well.

It started with the very warm welcome the barmaid gave us as we came in from our walk. Followed by excellent beef and wild mushroom stew, and fish cakes with poached egg. Good mixture of clientell, and very warm atmosphere

Booked a table at the Stonemasons on Mothering Sunday after a previous great experience. It was packed but the staff were still very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Served by the same pretty young lady who again gave us perfect service, couldn't fault her! Rushed off her feet but still made sure we were happy and always served us with a smile. The Sunday roasts were huge and delicious, the desserts were equally delicious - especially the sticky toffee pudding! Would really recommend the Stonemasons Inn. Will be back again.

Dropped in late afternoon Mothering Sunday to see if we could book a table for 5 for an hour or so's time. The kitchen was due to close in about 30 minutes, but we were offered a table there and then. The Sunday roasts were enormous and absolutely delicious. Would definitely eat here again. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Another 5 night stay at Petworth’s excellent Stonemasons. There is nowhere I would rather spend the night and relax in the morning with a full English breakfast, than at this Inn. Great service, fantastic food, comfortable beds, pleasant and knowledgeable management. What more could one ask for?

This place is always busy around lunchtime, hardly surprising given the value. Sadly, I have recently found that my clothes have smelt of smoke after I leave, which is unusual these days. I have also found the food to sometimes be undercooked, which can spoil things. Whilst I respect the concept, this place is a victim of it's own success, offering value that is head and shoulders above anywhere else of it's kind.
