Something Special

Pinchbeck and Surfleet, South Holland
05/03/2020: I went to Something Special with a group of friends for lunch. I had homemade leek and potato soup which was served with a beautiful warm roll. It was delicious. We were served promptly and nothing was too much trouble for Carlos. For dessert I shared a piece of bakewell tart...I would have truely loved a WHOLE piece but the portions are very generous and I'm trying to be good( I wasn't going to have anything for dessert until I found out that Sally's bakewell tart was available!! Lol!!)If you've not been to Something Special, you've missed out!!
02/03/2020: Pardon the little dig in the title, but the 19th Dec 2019 review has left me wound up at just how difficult it was to read, clearly a work of childish fiction and utterly untrue. Bitter old biddy syndrome?Aaaaaaanyway....... we’ve just had a family Sunday afternoon tea here, with 20+ people of all ages from 2 to 90. The entire experience could not be faulted. Truly excellent and polite service throughout, from the moment people arrived to the point that they left. The food was clearly freshly prepared and all of it was very tasty. The staff kept doing the rounds to check everyone was happy and if more drinks were required, and nothing was any trouble for them. This is how a ‘small’ establishment of this sort should be run, a real credit to the owners and management. Thank you.

Super Sausage Cafe

Whittlewood, South Northamptonshire
21/05/2020: We primarily go here for a proper slap up breakfast, but lots of other good meals are available. The service is great, the portions are huge. Essentially it’s a modern day 5star transport cafe, wonderful.
22/02/2020: Very disappointed. My parents went there this morning. Bear in mind my father is 74 and has a heart condition. Had a stent recently fitted due to having a cardiac arrest. There was a long queue so my mum told my dad to sit down at one of many empty tables. Only for him to be told he could Not sit down by a member of staff until he had his food. It wasn't as if people with food in their was waiting for tables as there was other empty tables. I think this is disgusting behaviour.

The Old Vicarage

Ridgeway and Marsh Lane, North East Derbyshire, >100£
21/02/2020: We have been to this restaurant twice before although not for a long time. The food was very disappointing with raw salmon, and tough beef. Portions are miniscule and the mushrooms very salty, Apparently thats how food should be cooked according to the waitress and the chef. Waitress patronising in her attitude and manner. There was no atmosphere as only us and another couple there on a Friday night which does not bode well. Such a difference from previous experience at this beautiful restaurant. We will not be returning £158 for 2 wasted.
21/02/2020: My 2nd visit in two years over Valentines weekend and it had a lot to live up to from the perfect first visit here in 2018. Suffice to say it was wonderful yet again from start to finish. Beautiful food, wonderful wine, lovely staff and a sommelier who is the icing on the cake. Had two prestige menus with wines (one veggie and one non-veggie) plus cheeseboard at the end. Drove a long way to visit and paid extra to stay local simply to experience The Old Vicarage again and I am already looking forward to the next visit in the summer hopefully...and i plan to bag the window seat! Thank you again.

The Devonshire Arms

Unstone, North East Derbyshire, 20-30£

21/06/2020: Just had our takeaway Sunday lunch. It was absolutely wonderful, the quality of everything was superb. So looking forward to visiting when you are reopen. Would highly recommend.

The Folly Inn

Towcester Brook, South Northamptonshire, 30-45£
21/06/2020: Pick up was easy, well packaged and straight forward heating instructions. I was a bit dubious about reheating a roast but it worked. The food was delicious and plenty of it and the five of us certainly did have a banquet. Thank you.
18/06/2020: I collected the tasting menu at 2pm as requested to find it ready and complete with menu and cooking instructions as this was a cook at home meal. The comprehensive information and presentation of the food was brilliant to say the least.I cooked the meal for my wife and I at 6pm and was very pleased that the Folly had thought of everything required ( food, dips garnishes etc )We had a super meal made all the better for the fact that we had not had a meal out for weeks. Have not rated atmosphere as we were at home I am certain that in the folly i would have given 5 starsMany thanks to Robert and the folly team

Castle view Indian cuisine

Castle, Lincoln
13/06/2020: Absolutely delicious food, brilliant service and one of the best Indians you could eat at. Regularly eat here and highly recommended it. Book in advance to avoid disappointment as so popular and well loved.
12/06/2020: We had an amazing takeaway from this Indian tonight!! Amazing food and 2 beers to go with it ! Thank you !!

Spondon, Derby
14/06/2020: Another lockdown weekend takeaway and its back to the Tamarind, which is a treat, quick service, plenty of choice from the menu - Garlic Chilli Chicken which two of us had and it was tasty, good crisp poppadoms and good choices of nan bread, excellent food, good price.
19/04/2020: Had a delicious takeaway curry. Hot food, good portions, arrived on time by a lovely chap. I would say good value for money particularly with the 15% discount for NHS staff. I will be ordering again no doubt!

The Tea House in the Woods

Woodhall Spa, East Lindsey
16/06/2020: Today we enjoyed a very tasty afternoon tea for my husband's Birthday! It all went to the pre-arranged plan! We parked in front of the tea house, opened the boot and a young man came out with our tea - all carefully packaged in environmentally friendly containers. (Well done!) Sandwiches, scones (a cheese and a fruit scone) delicious sponge cake - coffee and chocolate and a summer fruit posset. We were also able to buy a takeaway tea.Since it was a sunny afternoon, we were able to drive over to Jubilee Park and enjoy our food. We would thoroughly recommend this experience.
08/06/2020: Just to let you know we had a Afternoon Tea Takeout for my birthday, what a feast.Easy to book and collection was pull up in the car park with boot open, they drop your takeout in the boot and close it and off you go.There were a virity of sandwiches with a side salad, followed by a massive scone with jam & cream, then a lemon posset before a final course of a loverly home made coffee cake.Would highly recomend and think they are doing a first class service under the circumstances.

Parkys Eatery

Masson, Derbyshire Dales
10/03/2020: Really tasty breakfast in a great setting. Great service too. We were lucky to get a table so maybe book if you can?
07/03/2020: My friend and I went for afternoon tea . We hadn’t met up with each other in a while so we had lots to catch up on!We were there till closing time and David didn’t make us feel rushed at all. I had never visited Parkys before so my friend tells me one needs to book in advance for the afternoon tea as everything is baked especially! Oh my word what a feast of delights! I have been for many afternoon teas all around the uk but wow, this one has surpassed them all! The variety of cakes and pastries is amazing.A blackberry mousse in a glass was delightful and all beautifully presented and decorated with edible flowers! We also had a glass of Prosecco with ours. The scone was full size too! We were unable to finish out afternoon tea so David the owner carefully packaged our leftovers up for us to take home with us! Thank you David for a lovely experience, it was lovely to chat with you,and thank you for helping my friend to find the piece of land that was up for sale in the area! Who knows, she may end up living nearer to the shop so Il definable be joining her again to take up your hospitality again. One question I should have asked is,Do you provide Gluten free afternoon tea to order, as my husband is Gluten free and hasn’t been able to have an afternoon tea out for years. Wishing Parkys a continuing successful business.

The Green Man

Lincrest, South Kesteven
27/05/2020: Excellent takeaway this evening. A selection of burger and chips, fish and chips and pizza. We all enjoyed our meal. We also had the take away dessert. What a fabulous idea this is. Biscoff millionaires shortbread is Devine! Book your takeaway!!
08/03/2020: Seven of us had a superb meal here. A great choice of traditional pub meals on the regular menu, plus a good variety of more up-market specials. We needed somewhere for a Sunday lunchtime gathering & chose The Green Man because it has its regular menu, as well as a couple of roasts. It was for my Mum’s 80th birthday & they even put her favourite fish (sea bass) on as a special for her! I’m vegan & they gave me a few options too, which I appreciate. Staff are friendly, service good, surroundings & atmosphere lovely & relaxed. We’ll be back!

Serendipity at The Priory

St James', East Lindsey
24/02/2020: What a great meal and overnight stay we had this week at the Priory Hotel! Other reviews suggested it was "quirky"... it certainly was, but that absolutely made it! The food on the taster menu was amazing and just kept coming.... the service was second to none and the good feeling you get from supporting the ideology of the place and the positivity of the chef Paul was so uplifting. Great to see these guys get
16/02/2020: Paul managed to fit us in at short notice for the “Peaky Blinders” themed New Years Eve. We booked a room which was delightful, so cosy with nice little touches like his and hers dressing gowns and hot water bottles(not that you needed them).

The Three Horseshoes

Clay Cross North, North East Derbyshire
21/06/2020: Excellent takeaway Sunday lunch for fathers day. Lunch enjoyed by all of us. Would definitely recommend.
17/06/2020: Ordered 4 of the pies (3 different flavours) for takeaway to have a socially distanced family meal on my garden for my Mum's Birthday. Well we were let down by the weather but not the pies. They were just delicious. I also added another meal late on which was quickly accommodated. Thankyou so much to the whole team. Hopefully be back open soon and back to normal. Thanks again and see you soon. (Ps. The fork was placed for scale )

The Shalimar

Arboretum, Derby, >100£
20/06/2020: Just had first take away delivery in some time , used to be regular in the restaurant, got to say the best Indian food I’ve experienced in along time , you get what you pay for no body better , nice to see some things don’t change
17/06/2020: We often go to this restaurant and decided to have a takeaway delivered. Excellent food. Delivery was a little late but we were rung and advised of this and given poppadums and pickles free. Will definitely use the takeaway again but look forward to going for a proper meal in the not too distant future.
