South Kyme is a little of the beaten track but well worth the effort. Beautiful decor and clean facilities show the effort that goes into this place. Friendly owners couldn’t have done more and the food was exceptional - one of the best roast beef dinners I have ever had the pleasure of! It was all fresh, hot and well presented with nothing missing - it had the giant Yorkshire pudding, horseradish, mustard and the most wonderful gravy (no joke!) Word of warning THE CHEESECAKE IS ADDICTIVE! Highly recommended and we will be visiting again. The Kings

The table had been laid up for us outside and nothing was too much trouble! We all had indian meals which were authentic, delicious and beautifully cooked. We will certainly be back and can't recommend The Hume highly enough! Thank you too for dealing with the surprise champagne from Oregon 😊 Good luck to you both and we'll see you again soon.

We visited on several occasions during "Eat out to Help Out". We had all pre-ordered fillet steak as the usual steak night serves sirloin as standard. Obviously, that meant the price was a little more elevated than usual. However, the steak was perfectly cooked and delicious at both visits so proved to be worth the extra outlay. We also had lamb roast and curry at other visits. All the food was delicious on every occasion. Even our dog was welcomed (doggy treats kept behind the bar). Covid compliant measures made the visits safe for everyone.

We visited today 30 Aug 20 as a family of 4 along with our 2 sausage dogs to be greeted by the lovely owners and shown to our table , the place was very clean and following the strict covid guidelines We had already booked the table and ordered Sunday lunch before we arrived the drinks were served quickly and not long after the owner wheeled in his famous silver meat carving trolley to carve the succulent roast beef which was cooked to perfection to go with the perfectly cooked vegetables and delicious gravy. The dinner filled us up but we were so tempted by desert we managed to squeeze some in as it was all homemade the Eton mess, Bailey's Cheesecake and ice-cream. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone passing threw on a staycation if you want to experience nice food and fab hospitality Thankyou to the lovely owners Vicki , Andrew , Leah , Lewis and Sausages

So, with the COVID-19 pandemic in full swing, the Hume has started offering a full takeaway service. I popped in after work to pick up lamb bhuna - served with poppadoms, rice and naan bread, plus two bottles of Cobra on the house (available while stocks last). This, and the sublime roast beef Sunday lunches, is a firm favourite of ours and it was excellent. Give it a try!

We are always striving to find excellent Sunday roast locations and this is one of the best we’ve come across. I don’t give out 5 stars often but out of the 30 or so places we e tried in Lincolnshire, this is top 3 or 4. The beef is perfect. The veg is well cooked. The parsnips are sweet. Good choice of puddings. The staff are lovely - we were welcomed into the restaurant and they provided brilliant service. They were also very good with our 18month old daughter. Please visit

Short notice Sunday lunch, New to the area rang them off the cuff and they could not have done more to fit us in and make us feel welcome. The building is lovely and very ease to find with ample parking without a drop of litter anywhere. The owners and staff are all very friendly and instantly set you at ease. We were served drinks in the main bar, while they prepared the table. When you see the large silver Christofle style carvery trolley and the beef is reveal it looked amazing. It was cooked superbly moist and tender. The Gravy was AMAZING could have had that with a Yorkshire pudding on its own, I even ate the parsnips which don't really like. Wasn't intending to have a sweet but did, very tasty but light cheese cake. All in all good food, great atmosphere and Sunday lunch with sweet and drinks for 2 for £43 absolute bargain. will be going again.

Visiting family & friends at Tattersall Lakes for the day. Couldn't eat there as they have no guest policy so Emma in the group found the Hume Arms a short drive away but able to accommodate the 10 adults, 6 children and 2 babies. What a wonderful warm welcome we received. They put us all in our own room with tables laid out lovely. Whilst we did wait a while for the food we were sure it was freshly cooked so that wasn't a problem at all. Nothing was too much trouble. Most of us had the roast beef Sunday lunch but sausages were cooked for kids who wanted them, Indian food was cooked for those who wanted Indian cuisine and everyone was more than happy with their meal. The hosts were brilliant. Unfortunately my husband wasn't feeling well and cancelled his meal and went to sit in the car whilst we all ate our meals. The hosts were very concerned about him, which was nice. I would certainly recommend this wonderful, friendly restaurant to anyone. And I would willingly come again should we be in the area. I apologise profusely for forgetting their names but 'he' was a comedian and his banter had us in stitches and 'her' soft Irish accent I could have listened to for weeks. They are an absolute dream team and I loved every minute with them. The big laugh was the guy sat at the bar, who had obviously imbibed a few, who couldn't seem to grasp that we were from Chesterfield and not Chester! Kept asking how long it took to get from Chesterfield to Chester. Said I didn't know as had never been. He had been to Chester. But obviously not Chesterfield. I said we had the Crooked Spire and he said they had nice shops in Chester!!! Obviously the beer good too at The Hume Arms! Thank you so much.

Having A birthday trip to East Kirkby air museum planned for A Saturday morning/lunch time I needed somewhere to eat before the family split up to go different ways. I looked on tripadvisor for somewhere to eat locally, but I only found low ratings or not serving food to suit our time of day. Then I spotted The Hume Arms and phoned them on Friday night explaining to Vijay not sure what time or numbers, only estimates. No problem was Vijays reply phone me tomorrow with details and we will see what we can do. So I rang at 1.30PM on Saturday with no reply, within two minutes Vijay rang back and we organised A time and numbers with Vijay saying no rush. On arrival we were warmly welcomed served drinks and given A well stocked menu off which we ordered several different meals, steaks and curries mainly. All the meals arrived hot and very tasty,. We spoke to Vijay after finishing our meals to congratulate him on his wonderful service and hospitality. So if you are in the South Kyme area looking for somewhere to eat do not miss the chance to dine here.

We had heard about the wonderful Sunday roast dinner at The Hume Arms and thought we would go and try for ourselves. As soon as we walked in the door we knew we had made a good choice. The pub is tastefully decorated and has a calm ambiance. The greeting was friendly and polite. Even though we hadn't been there before we were made to feel very welcome. The hosts make you feel at home immediately. We particularly liked the relaxed atmosphere and not being rushed. The roast dinner was just as we had heard it would be and yes Vijay does carve the meat in front of you from a beautiful Victorian trolley! Very stylish and a wonderful dramatic touch. Maeve is very attentive and brings beautifully cooked vegetables, Yorkshire Puddings and gravy to your table. I would say this is one of the best roast dinners I have eaten out. Equally as good as the very best home cooked meal. We were told about a special roast dinner day later in September. We booked our table immediately. Surely that must be the best recommendation.

Hadn't eaten here for a while so we thought we'd give it a whirl. I remembered from some years ago the owner / chef is Indian and prepares lovely curries from his own recipes; thought it might make a change. As it happens, three of our party of four chose haddock fish cakes; I had scampi. And very nice it all was too. If I'd got out of bed the wrong side that morning, I might have said I would have preferred the chips cooked a few minutes longer, but they weren't soggy. Both couples shared one cheesecake portion each after a filling and tasty main course and both were sensational - our limoncello cheesecake was superb and our friends were delighted with their choice. Our hosts were friendly, and charming. Nice people. Good beer, too!Bill for four mains, two puddings, and four drinks, £59. Spot on.

Having passed this location on a daily basis, I decided to book this pub for a family meal giving them a weeks notice. On arriving, there were a few tables occupied by guests but no staff to be seen. Minutes later, we were shown to our table and left again for a considerable amount of time. We then saw the assumed owner wheeling a trolley platter around a slicing one of the two meats contained within - which to be honest, looked dry and unappealing. We signalled to him that we would like to look at the men us but were told that a wedding party had consumed more food than previously thought the night prior…?! All that was on offer was this dried up beef joint which looked like a set piece from the walking dead series!Long story short, we drank our drinks swiftly and decided to eat somewhere else which is something I have never felt the need to do before. It is a shame as the place looks decent both inside and out but is clearly run by unprofessional people. The whole experience reminded me of Fawlty Towers…..

After hearing about The Hume Arms before, we thought last minute we'd give it a try last night. We received a warm welcome, plenty of choice drink wise with a nice hand pull real ale on. No trouble accommodating us considering we didn't book and it was 8pm on a Saturday night. The food was fantastic all home made, the only mistake we made was having starters as then we struggled with main course! For starters we had lamb samosas and prawn cocktail, mains chicken and cream of leek homemade pie (one of the best pies I've had in a long time! And I'm fussy!!) extra sauce for the pie was lush! And gammon, no messing there lovely thick cut gammon with a nice bit of fat on, nice to be given the choice as most places cut it off now. They really are a lovely couple taking time to chat with us and tell us a little about the history of the pub. Locals were friendly and chatty we will definitely be back with family in tow! This pub, in the village of South Kyme, is just a short drive from the A17, just after/before East Heckington. if you are on your way anywhere east or west on the A17, it is worth the short 10 minute detour for a meal. Great to visit if you are local to the area. The owners of the pub are extremely friendly and create a welcoming and homely atmosphere. The decor of the pub also helps to create a good atmosphere and very pleasant dining surroundings. The food is good value and there is a good choice for the main courses. They offer smaller portions of most dishes, an option that I wish more restaurants would do. The dessert menu was a limited and we didn't fancy any of the options so I can't comment on the quality of those.I would recommend you give this pub a try and if you like indian food, try one of the curries.

My only quibble might have been about the level of heating, but most places I visit I am cold so maybe it was just me. All in all, would definitely recommend and we will happily visit again when we are next in the area.

discovered this little gem only 6 miles from home on Tripadvisor . so thought we would give it a try one Sunday lunchtime. from the outside it looks like a large house not like a pub, restaurant, and on entering we were further surprised by the welcoming decor and very friendly Husband and wife team that run it. made us feel welcome within minutes of arrival.they recommended the Sunday Roast Beef, a Sirloin of beef carved at the table was amazing tender and succulent accompanied by perfect veg, potatoes and Yorkshire puddings. The menu also had a selection of traditional pub food and some Indian specials all of which sounded tempting.we had 2 main courses 2 desserts and 2 drinks each, total price £ 44.00 more than reasonable considering the standard of food and service. not easy to find great places to eat locally so this little gem will be visited again and again. Would highly recommend this pub, Restaurant.

We found this pub using the trip advisor app, when we were on the way back from Spalding to Lincoln. We rang ahead to check that there was a table and the landlady opened up 20minutes early especially for us. I was really impressed with the menu, as there was something for everyone but not too much that it confused you. We had homemade chicken curry and the gammon steak. Our children had homemade chicken nuggets which they loved. The gammon was a huge horseshoe and was really thick, served with real chips!! We also had the onion rings which melted in your mouth. The men had real ale which was really good and the house red was really nice too. Both the landlord and landlady were very welcoming and couldn't do enough for you. I would definitely come here again.

I feel very fortunate to live in a village with such a super pub and restaurant. There's always a friendly welcome and after many many meals at The Hume, I've never had cause for complaint. A meal at The Hume will always be prepared from the best available local produce. Vijay, the landlord and chef delights in serving roast beef carved at your table from a fine old Victorian carving trolley. I've never had a better sunday roast ... anywhere.

Probably started a drinking career here in 1970 whatever,so it was interesting to be back! Premise recognisably the same, but modernised to a high standard, and warm and bright. Landlord and his wife welcoming and helpful, enjoyed the midweek steak night deal, cooked exactly to order, and left with a firm resolve to come back and try either the landlords speciality curries or the weekend carvery. Can't fault it,the modernisation has left the character intact, and a visit is a good experience. Thanks for that good experience, see you soon!, Simon & Julie

Our third visit here in a month. We travelled up for an event at the Lincs Aviation Heritage Centre. This time we brought our teenage daughters with us, and we all agreed it was a truly delicious meal. One daughter had Vijay's chicken tikka with rice and naan bread and ate the lot - it was massive! The other had the sirloin steak and gave it a big thumbs up.Husband and I both had the gammon steak and were not disappointed. This time we only ordered one portion of onion rings though! Superb. Thank you so much Maeve and Vijay for your first class cooking and your warm and friendly welcome. Such a shame we live 170 miles away otherwise we would be here every week.

This ticked all the boxes for us both......Very dog friendly (which is rarity in Lincolnshire), warm and welcoming hosts and fantastic food! The menu is varied but just right and offers something for all. Vijay's Sunday roasts are simply the best, as are his Indian dishes (we tried the lamb samosas and his Bhuna). We have visited on 3 separate occasions now and we have not left disappointed! On Sunday there is a carvery option where Vijay carves the roast joint at your table. The meat on the 2 occasions we've had it has been perfectly cooked and extremely tasty, the roast potatoes and his gravy are the best we have ever had at a pub. Maeve, Vijays wife gave us a typical warm Irish welcome and plenty of friendly chat...................we will be back again and again and look forward to the next curry night!

We came up to Lincs for the weekend, and I booked a motel in North Kyme, was browsing on Trip Advisor and saw very good reviews for The Hume Arms. So we came here on our first night for dinner. A very warm and friendly welcome from Vijay. We both had the gammon steak - which was delicious; with simply THE BEST CHIPS that I have ever had - crisp, handcut which you could tell by the shapes, and hot hot hot! We were so hungry we ordered 2 sides of onion rings - or should I say, another main course on it's own! This time my eyes were definitely bigger than my belly! Have you ever had a meal and then said "I'm never going to eat again!" ? well it was one of those....clean and bright decor in the bar where we ate, (although we were given the choice to go and eat in the dining room) and very comfortable chairs, large tables and not cramped like some restaurants I've been to. Will be going back for Sunday roast tomorrow.. thank you Vijay

I live in a nearby village and The Hume Arms has been our 'secret' place to go for special occasions for the last 4 years. We have had many Birthday/Mothers Day/Fathers Day Sunday Lunches here and throughout this time the standards that we encountered on our first visit have always been maintained. The quality of the beef that Vijay cooks is outstanding as are all the usual roast dinner trimmings. Topped off with that fantastic gravy and I swear, the Sunday roast here has got to be one of the best, if not 'thee' best, I've had. If your not sure there's room for a desert, the sight of the delights on the desert trolley are usually all it takes to sway the decision! The a la carte menu (try the mushroom soup!) is equally as good and there are usually at least 1 or 2 excellent real ales to sample with your meal. Usually quiet and relaxed, the bar and restaurant areas have a refreshingly unique and tasteful style of decor (not the usual dingy dark oak beams and horse brasses) and the level of hospitality offered by Maeve & Vijay is excellent. I travel a lot with my work and eat in a lot of restaurants so I can be quite fussy when it comes to quality and service. I keep bringing my family back to the Hume so I think that says quite a lot. So give the Hume Arms a try ... I'm sure you wont regret it ... But 'Shhh' don't tell everyone!

We have visited the HUME ARMS a number of times since my last review of this establishment. On Sunday last we took some friends who were staying for the weekend knowing I could book incomplete confidence that they would not be disappointed, and of course I was right. Both our friends agreed it was a first class meal with first class service. I am not going to say any more, I would suggest you go and try it for yourself.

The food is superb, whatever cuisine you require, English or Indian. We are regulars to The Hume and on our last visit we thoroughly enjoyed our Indian dishes, to the degree it was better than eating in an Indian restaurant! VJ and Maeve are great hosts and, for us, the cask ales are spot on. South Kyme is a picturesque village with the River Slea running through it; it also hosts an 18-hole golf course, church and castle ruins - anyone visiting the area could not do better than making a stop at The Hume at South Kyme.

well it was the son in laws pick this week and he certainly came up trumps , quite a way from lincoln but worth the trip , a litle irish munchkin landlady Maeve and VJAY her husband run the place and he cooks a meal to be proud of ! english or indian cusine both superb and he makes all his own sauces which can be red hot or as mild as you like as can his boonha curry with his own chilli pepper sauce to add fire . we all had a taste of that and it AINT for the faint hearted , i had a finger end full and can vouch that my tongue was as hot as it ever has been and its all cooked fresh every day and the puds are fresh as well , we willl definitly be coming for more , there is Batemans hand pulled beer to enjoy as well !!! LOVED IT

We visited last night on their speciality Steak Night. My partner had the steak, which he said was cooked to perfection, and I chose the Keema Bhoona which was definitely one of the best curries I have ever had. The portions were large and so we were unsure whether to have desserts... so pleased we did as they were delicious! I went for the apple crumble (with proper vanilla ice cream) and my other half the irish cream cheesecake, which he also pronounced to be one of the best cheesecakes he has ever had. Service was prompt, the owners were chatty and the food was absolutely delicious. So much so that we have booked in for Sunday lunch after a recommendation that their roast beef is the best in Lincolnshire! A great pub and restaurant, we will definitely be regular customers!

This is South Kyme's boat weekend, cancelled for the last two years (wrong kind of water, or something...) but in full swing this year. We kicked off with a quiz and hot buffet supper last night (Friday), and tonight Vijay laid on a tri-nation buffet - Szechuan chicken, lamb bhuna and Caribbean jerk pork. Every mouthful was delicious and we were invited to return to the servery as often as we liked. I've said it before - you seriously have to try the lamb bhuna, which is truly outstanding!

Found this place last year when we booked to stay somewhere in North Kyme and were then contacted to say we couldn't. So glad now that the first place cancelled or we would never have found 'our special place'. The B&B is cosy and homely but that isn't the reason we keep going back! Vijay cooks THE most amazing Indian food we've ever tasted! It's that good we haven't got round to tasting anything else on the menu! We've been again tonight and discussed how we go about getting a take away that we can have at home! Mauve really welcomes you into her home and makes you feel welcome and valued. Our only regret ofThe Hume Arms is that it isn't closer...still, makes it all the more special when we do visit.

Parked at The Hume and then spent an hour walking around this lovely unspoiled village. On walking into the pub / restaurant we were greeted by friendly staff. We chose where to sit and ordered from the menu. The food took a while to arrive but this was not a problem as we knew it was being freshly cooked for us. The food arrived piping hot on very hot plates. Perfect.I think The Hume is a hidden gem, one we will be returning to as the Sunday Roast Beef that I ordered was cooked perfectly along with the crisp vegetables that still were vibrant in colour. My friend ordered chicken and leek pie and was that a monster of a pie. Delicious short crust pastry and freshly baked. The restaurant was very quiet and maybe this is due to the lack of web presence as the place should be 'buzzing' based on the surroundings, service and food.Give it a try - you won't be disappointed.

This old house has been tastefully converted into a friendly, homely pub come restaurant. But there is nothing amateurish about The Home Arms. From start to finish the experience was delightful.Mixing Indian and British food seamlessly, the roast beef dinner served from the silver Victorian trolley competed flawlessly with the tastily light short crust vegetable pie after the Indian starter platter. The meal was finished with a faultless homemade dessert and coffee. Well worth cruising up the Slea Navigation for.

The Villagers of South Kyne should be delighted they have such a great pub on their doorstep. We holidayed in South Kyme this February half term renting a cottage there. Usually we would only dine in a location once during our break.. but having discovered The Hume on our first night we went back a total of 4 times, even bringing friends with us to enjoy the ambience. We partook in a Curry Night the first night, excellent value Steak Night, an A La Carte night then delayed our return to London with the Sunday Roast.Vijay and Maeve made us most welcome and we look forward to having an excuse to be in this part of the country again soon.Dogs with well behaved owners were welcome in the bar area too!

A lovely shop selling arts and craft products as well as a cafe. A lot of the craft products are made by local people and are of high quality and reasonably priced although you do have to pay by cash for these pieces so the crafter gets the full amount. Sensible and fair. The food is fresh and well sourced, cooked fresh to order and delicious. My wife had a slice of yummy toblerone cake and a hot chocolate, I had a bacon and sausage sandwich with a delicious homemade tomato chutney and a coffee. Very tasty. The staff are really friendly and polite, order at your table and add to the experience. We are are on birthday weekend away and are going to have breakfast there tomorrow before we head for home. Totally recommend it for both the food, the welcome and the arts and crafts. A really lovely place to go.

Yet another visit to this fantastic pub. The lunchtime baguettes are amazing and great value for money. The only issue I have is with the guy complaining about his steak as the George has not had steak on the menu for quite some time. My advice is to ignore that review and try the pub for yourself, it's brilliant.
