Yet another visit to this fantastic pub. The lunchtime baguettes are amazing and great value for money. The only issue I have is with the guy complaining about his steak as the George has not had steak on the menu for quite some time. My advice is to ignore that review and try the pub for yourself, it's brilliant.

Very rude landlord and staff, the food was slow arriving and of poor quality. I ordered a blue steak which arrived well done, I then had another long wait for my food. I definitely won’t be using again and I advise others not to if they want a nice warm welcome, as you will not receive it here

Visited the George Stable Sports Bar for the England Euros Semi Final with my partner. Friendly and super-helpful bar staff, and a great atmosphere. Had such a good time we chose to come back for the final! I saw a negative review from the couple sat at the next table and was shocked and appalled - simply not true from what we saw. I have placed a complaint with Trip Advisor about it, that negative review is best ignored in my humble opinion.

Visited for a drink. Surly barman, very unwelcoming. Asked to watch first half of rugby match on one of five TVs, told no as they were waiting for football to come on. There were four other people in there. Reluctantly put one TV on, wouldn't turn up volume. Awful, awful place.

We visited on a Thursday lunchtime for a family get-together lunch. We have all been to The George many times over the years but none of us had visited for quite a while; certainly since the new owners arrived. The building hasn't changed at all - right down to the decor but having said that, it is an historic building so there are limited options regarding decor and it did look clean. Two of us had starters which were nicely presented and tasty. For the main course three chose from the specials and had the belly pork and I had the salmon; all the meals looked good on arrival at the table and we all thoroughly enjoyed them. I had the sticky toffee and date pudding for afters and it was gorgeous, worth going back for! In all, it was a very nice lunch that we all enjoyed. We didn't feel at all rushed even though we didn't leave until almost 3pm. We are happy to recommend.

So very sad to say as my mum lived locally about 20 years ago - I wanted to see some of her history. My grannie said she would drive me here, the chef was smoking outside leaning against the wall on our arrival. We were quite hungry but were a little apprehensive about the hygiene.Ordered hot food in the hops it would not of been contaminated.Fish and chips were nice, when we eventually received them .Nice selection of drinks. Staff lovely.

In our arrival for a lunch stop was the chef out side smoking in his uniform not very hygiene standards, we wanted a snack so we all ordered sandwiches which took for ever to come, one of the paninis was totally burnt and the beef was awful in it, the cheese one how ever was thrown together with big horrible slabs of cheese in. We never was asked if our food was ok we had waited that long we had to rush and leave. The pub/hotel is looking very tired I won't be going back there very disappointing.

We went here for a family birthday lunch, having not visited before. We were disappointed with the service (or lack of!), as the waiter was very slow, and we were left for long periods throughout the meal - even though there was just one other table in use. Came here for dinner, booking beforehand. They were busy with a large group so had to go at 6pm.Lovely staff were very helpful throughout. 3 hand pulled beers were available and tasty. We had a main course only with a bottle of wine. The choice is amongst the classic pub food - fish and chips, sausage, steak, gammon, pies, spaghetti Bol, lasagne and vege versions. There was limited vegetables - peas only, but when it came it was very tasty and well cooked. It was very good value and if you want cheaper food, they have a happy hour where certain meals are half price so well, less than £10 for a main meal !!Not special, but if you want a good cheap meal in a nice place , come here!

What a disappointment. The George used to be a great place to eat but our recent experience was awful and a costly mistake we won't repeat. All four starters and mains were poorly presented, lacked any flavour and seemed to have been done as cheaply as possible but with higher than average prices.

We stopped off for lunch. Mains looked a bit expensive but from the lite bites menu liver and bacon was good value, and full English breakfast at lunchtime always goes down well - and it's always a bonus to get good sausages (I presume they were Lincolnshire). Surrounded by whisky bottles (on shelves round the pub) and with a real fire going, the bar looked a better place to eat at lunchtime than the restaurant area. The glass of wine was fine (and no mark up if you wanted a small glass) and the coffee was very good.

I reckon that this Hotel is suffering from a major lack of investment, which possibly the trade it attracts cannot support, but the welcome that my wife and I received was warm, and the food excellent.Other reviews talk about the quaintness of the interior, and in a shabby-chic way it is delightful. A lovely open fire, an extensive menu, and leather seats you sink into !We simply stopped for lunch, choose Gammon and eggs from the menu, and in fair time it was duly delivered. A superb thick piece of gammon, two eggs, varied vegetables and enough chips for a party. The gammon was excellent, and the whole meal first class. Why four stars and not five ? , well the outside really is scruffy, and although averagely clean and tidy inside, all is slowly in decline. A real shame, but we would certainly visit again.

This pub is unique and worthy of a trip to Lincolnshire, if you like whisky. I have often perused whisky shops and this pub has a wider selection than most. The whisky fills the space the bar and then continues on shelves around each room, just as a toy train track might in Wallace and Gromit. Your choice requires a catalogue and the collection is noted by Famous Grouse (read into that what you will) for its vast whisky collection. Whisky is the certainly the main event. But that is not o say that it has nothing else. If you also happen to meat like you can select the very steak you want to eat in the chiller as you walk in. I have spent a few slow afternoons near the fire or in the bid, old leather wing-backed chairs and intend to continue to do so.

Went to the Burn's Night Supper in a group of 8. Pre-dinner drinks were included in the set menu with five courses plus coffee. A small malt whiskey was included with each course so the all in price was very reasonable. We were all seated on one table, the courses came very promptly and the only criticism I could make was the soup and vegetables could have been hotter but with so many covers what we received was perfectly acceptable. The smoked salmon starter was excellent, the soup was soup. I was expecting a larger portion of haggis but as we also had roast beef to follow there was sufficient. The beef was really very good and perfectly cooked for my taste. I would have liked clootie pudding to finish but the chocolate cake was more than acceptable. Along with the atmosphere and the company it made for a very good evening.

We went in for lunch as we haven't been here for quite a few years. It was quiet. The fire was lit but no radiators were on so unless you were sitting near the fire it wasn't very warm at all. we were surprised at this considering it was February! The toilets were clean but freezing as again, no heating. The pub is clean but feels in need of some refurbishment. The main menu is expensive for lunch and when we said we were ordering food we weren't offered a lunch menu. We found one as we were about to order from the evening menu. The fish and chips were really good and the fish was huge. The ribs were enormous but beautifully cooked and just fell apart. Prices for lunch were reasonable and it came to about £30 for 3 of us with so much food that we struggled to finish it. We would go again but not in winter unless we have lots of jumpers on!

Stopped with some friends for a lunch on our way home. It was not terribly busy, and we couldn't understand why the order took so very long to arrive. It didn't bode well when the gentleman behind us sent his sausages and yorkshire pudding back ............ the only word we heard was 'atrocious'. We had ordered a prawn salad, a burger and Cajun chicken and noodles. When it finally arrived I have never seen such unappetising food. To be fair, the burger looked ok, tasted ok, (just ok, though) but the chips were cold and the coleslaw tasteless. The Cajun chicken was dumped on top of rubbery egg noodles (really? with Cajun chicken?), and the chicken was a thigh and a drumstick, in an insipid tomato based stew. Not a whiff of Cajun seasoning anywhere. The prawn salad was a heap of defrosted prawns on some mixed salad, with no dressing/Marie Rose sauce to be seen. My friend asked for some Marie Rose sauce and before it arrived, she found two DOG HAIRS in her prawns! Strong representations were made, and the somewhat elderly lady who had brought the food out came to speak to us. She was quite defensive, and said she was only the 'washer upper' not the chef. When my friend paid the bill (burger and drinks only) she queried why the chef hadn't come out, to be told 'He didn't want to!' .............. For goodness' sake! We suspected that, for whatever reason, there was no chef, and the 'washer upper' had tried, and failed miserably, to do both jobs. They would have done better to not serve any food, rather than the rubbish that came out. If there WAS a chef in that kitchen - he needs to find a new career.

Decided to try here as seen the pub when traveling to grantham. We had the 2 course Sunday carvery £11.95 each, they also do I course for £9.95.Pub is very old with traditional beams galore, my opinion it needs some TLC.We sat in the restaurant which has the carvery selection, choice between rib of beef, lamb, turkey, gammon, pork all served with Yorkshire puddings and stuffing, homemade lasagne, roast potatoes, mash, roast carrots & parsnips, cabbage, & peas. Lovely thick gravy too and all the sauces to go with meats. We were unlucky to get there at the end of the beef joint far too fatty so decided on Turkey and pork as this was lean, they did bring out a new joint later and it looked lovely. All our food was lovely and we all enjoyed it. For pudding you get the choice of 5 different things I had chocolate fudge cake warmed with ice cream yummy.I would recommend the Sunday lunch to others and would defiantly go again. :)

I had been there on previous occasions and had found the place and food to be hit and miss! However I went there for a low key christmas bash with some work colleagues and have to say I had one of the most enjoyable meals in years. There were 6 of us in the group. 4 of us went for the fillet steak. There was a choice of size. So I opted to pay slightly more and went for a 10oz. I wasnt disappointed. Best steak I had in years. Cooked to perfection and knife went straight through the meat. Been to many other places, paid more, only to find it was as tough as an old boot. Everyone enjoyed their meal. One of my colleagues had the rack of ribs. They were also tender, fell off the bone and nearly hanging off the plate. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. The portions were huge including chips, lots of veg and dauphinoise potatoes which we had not asked for. Well worth the £25 due to quality, choice and portion size. Will recommend to anyone. Enjoy!

It's been nearly 30 years since I was last here and remembered it fondly. I was bitterly disappointed to note that the menu had not changed and some parts of the bar looked as if they had not been cleaned since. The food was simply awful. Why ask how themixed Farmhouse grill should be cooked if all the meats are then cooked at the same time and the left under the pass so that even the steak whuch was requested rare is well done! The lamb chop and pork chop wee wrtten off. The steak and ale por was beef stew with a puff pastey crust that had been over cooked seperarely placed on top. The peas are under cooked and cold and the few chips provided for 4 meals tasted as if the oil hasn't been changed since I had last been. I am not surprised that no one bothered to ask if we enjoyed the meal when we left I think our faces said it all

We used to visit the George years ago before the bypass was built, and purposely went back there this week on our way back to Yorkshire from Norfolk. The place looked very tired, outside was cluttered with tables and equipment, but the bar area was just as we remembered. Still a bit fusty, (some would say it has character) which it does, however it appeared to need a good spruce up and clean. We wanted bar food and the 2 for 1 appeared inviting, but as there were three of us one ordered from the main menu. We had to wait 25mins for the food to arrive even though there appeared to be no one else ordering or waiting for food. The fish was reasonable, sweet and sour dish enjoyed, the pie was a bit dry, chips were good and all meals were hot and well presented. We probably won't be making an effort to eat here again which is a shame, as it used to be such a great place to eat.

What was a popular hostelry now seems run down and uninviting. I met with 3 former work colleagues for a catch up, and we were looking forward to eating in the bar at The George - on the basis of previous positive experiences. However, what we ordered from the menu was not that presented - and it was largely lacking in flavour. Fortuitously, the 2 for 1 offer softened the blow - because the food was certainly not worth the listed price for each item. This is a great pity, because The George was previously a reliable source of quality food at competitive prices. Perhaps today was a one-off; so I will try it again!

We went for Saturday lunch. When we arrived we was told it was a 30-45 minute wait for food the pub was empty. But a few tables sat outside with kids. We ordered something easy. Ham egg and chip. After waiting the time they said our food arrived. The chips was cold and the egg looked like it had been sat for 10 minutes. They had an inflatable assault course for kids in the garden which is a great attraction for people with kids. But I wouldn’t advise going for a meal !! 🤮
