Booked a cottage across the road from the pub for that reason .Popped in in the afternoon to check it out and they had no beer and the kitchen was closed . Update April 2023. Went for an evening drink with a friend. Very quiet and lifeless in both bar and lounge. Previous landlord and chef Andy has moved across the road to the cafe. We left quite quickly. Update January 2020. Just been back yet again for our regular Sunday lunch. Beautiful tender tasty beef and lamb with all the trimmings, Yorkshire pudding, lovely gravy and excellent vegetables at the most reasonable price we've come across. The landlord is also the cook and knows his business. Comfortable saloon bar with a warm fire. Service was quick and friendly, but you order at the bar and get your own knives and forks from the sideboard. Keep it up Andy, you’re doing a great job! 2 years ago 2018.First class 10 oz steak juicy, tender and tasty! A plateful to remember. Lovely hand cut chips and sweet garden peas. All for £13. 50. Great British cooking!

I visited the Waggon and Horses yesterday at 10pm, I ordered a drink and sat outside. I went back in at 10:45pm and watched the staff member pour a pint of John Smiths for a customer so I asked for a final drink, I was told that everything had been closed for the night and I was refused. Your bar member stated last orders had been called and said she should of let me know but didn’t cause I was outside on my phone. As a publican myself, my understanding is that last orders are called prior to licensing hours and then there is drinking up time. I don’t think it is acceptable to watch a pint being poured for a known regular and then be told that the bar is closed 2 seconds later at 10:45pm! In actual fact I visit the village on a regular basis when staying with family, and I often frequent the Waggon, have done for nearly 40 years, however after yesterday’s experience I will not be returning. No customer service what so ever!

The Waggon and Horses is a pleasant, traditional pub and easy to find as it is along the main road through the village and quite close to the church. There is no beer garden as such but there is an outside seating area with picnic tables. On the sunny afternoon that my (adult) son and I visited it was doing a fairly brisk trade. Be warned that parking can be a bit of an issue. It's unfair to judge a place by a single brief visit but on this occasion, though the staff were friendly and efficient in serving us, both my son's beer and my soft drink with ice were on the warm side. As a consequence we moved on fairly quickly. Other customers however did seem perfectly happy.

Honestly the worst meals ever. I had the unspecified “chicken curry” and it was like soup with microwave packet rice. Unsquashed lumps and all. I’ve had 99p tinned curry that’s been better. And my partner had the steak and he said it was tough, gristly and overcooked. Also the crackers and cheese starter was pretty bad, just some jacobs Christmas tray ones with your usual cheeses :/ Do not recommend. They did take the curry off the pricing of our bill but it was not worth it at all.

Called in mid afternoon on a weekend The place had a really funny smell as we walked in. About 5 customers and 4 bar staff. It’s the only pub in the village and now that people are going back out there should have been more clients.Ordered drinks and sat down reluctantly. This place is supposed to be under new management. Brave or foolish? Well I suggest they sack the “cleaner”. The dust on the floor under the pool table was inches thick. The whole place needs a complete refurbishment. Get rid of the old smelly carpets, fresh paint, some decent seating & clean tables. It’s a lovely looking original pub but the interior…. If it is under new management & they were part of the bar staff, they need a lesson in looking professional - dirty jogging bottoms & a tee shirt straining over a beer belly does not give a good impression. We may well have dropped in at the wrong time and plans to do it up may well be in place but it is not somewhere that we will be going back to.Good Luck

We had a meal here just before Christmas and all really enjoyed the food, but thought it may have been a one off and that the fact we’d had 3 or 4 drinks before probably helped! Returned on Sunday for Sunday lunch (sober) and had another lovely meal. My wife is a vegetarian and the chef came out to personally run through some different options and ensure she got something appropriate- a delicious nut roast, which she loved. The rest of us enjoyed our traditional Sunday roast which comes in small or regular sizes to cater for every appetite. There was also the choice of Turkey, Lamb, Beef or Pork - so something for everyone again. Vegetables were cooked perfectly and the service was quick, warm and friendly. Only thing to let this place down and not make it 5 stars was the decor and toilets. Quite dated (but clean) and in need of a full refurbishment (ideally) or a freshen up (at least). Won’t stop us going back though, perhaps not for a special occasion

I went to the Waggon and Horses, in Branston, last night. The food was perfect. It was curry night, I wasn't sure about having a curry because they don't always agree with me but the table next to us had theirs delivered and it looked very tasty, so I ordered a Jalfrezi. It came with popadom, naan, raiti yoghurt, cucumber and onion salad, and Chutney. All for a third of the price paid for the main meal I had at Branston Hall. The combination was perfect and the curry was a treat, full of flavour and smelling great. The best thing for me is that my stomach felt no ill effects. I'll be going back. If you've never experienced the food at the Waggon and Horses, in Branston, you should treat yourself. The favourite there for me is the Gammon, though everything I've had to eat there has always been perfect. You'll be feeling very full and struggle to eat a pudding but you must try, even if it's to share, there's plenty for two and you'll not regret it

If I could rate this pub/restaurant in just one word I would be stuck between "outstanding" and "exceptional". Two of us were working locally for 4 days and staying at the Branston Hall hotel, this pub is a nice stroll away and from our very first evening we were warmly welcomed by "H" and the ambience was very friendly indeed. The owner/chef "Andy" I met about a year ago and out of the hundreds of customers he receives, he vaguely recognised me which says a lot. Andy is VERY passionate in the food he prepares and caters for all tastes. It matters not if you are a meat eater (steaks and steak pies are incredible), a fish eat or a vegan, he caters for all. In fact, the vegan dishes looked fabulous as he has been concentrating on these dishes over the last few years. We had different dishes each night and some nights going for the special. The pizza and garlic bread isn't just a regular pizza and a couple of slices of bread, it is two full pizza's the largest a good 12" and crammed with toppings. I honestly do not have a single negative comment to make, it was a brilliant few days and this Pub/restaurant will ALWAYS be a must visit next time I am in the area. On Sunday my colleague and I did not finish work until 6pm and did not realise the pub stops serving food at this time (OUR mistake). We walked down and Andy was eating with the staff after the pub was "essentially" shut. He still offered us both a rack of lamb. This just goes to show how genuine the staff are.

Very disappointed with the whole place, strong smell of cooking fat in the bar area and despite a lit log burner, the place was cold. We have never been anywhere other than a garden centre/supermarket restaurant, where you have to collect your own cutlery and condiments ....here you have to ! Boxed white wine too. Steak pie ordered by my husband was good and my meal of chilli was average. Rice and salad on a cold plate and chilli in a warm bowl. No sour cream or natural yogurt available. Mentioned this to the chef, who also clears tables and was told that he had never been asked before and that the cider vinegar drowned salad was a ‘plate filler’. Had originally planned to have a dessert but changed our minds. Won’t be back.

Even if it hadn't been a reduced rate we would have still happily paid the usual rate which is still incredibly cheap for such high quality food. The staff are exemplary and the chef added a personal touch by popping out to chat to us. Many thanks - and really well done - would highly recommend going here!

First time we have visited the Waggon and Horses. It was very quiet - probably as it was a Monday. Very varied menu with something for all tastes. You order at the bar and we were fortunate to have a chat with the chef who was telling us that all their pies were homemade. My husband was certainly very impressed with his chicken pie. The food was made to order and arrived quickly and was hot. The portion sizes are huge. The staff are lovely and friendly. We would definitely visit again if we are in the area.

The food in this pub is just excellent, it doesn't have the old English pub vibe and look. But the food is definitly worth a visit.

First time visit and have to say that it was not a disappointing experience in any way. We stayed at the pub overnight and all rooms were clean and a good size. The landlord was very helpful, as were the rest of the staff, especially as we needed a little more time the next morning to get ready before our check out time to go to my son's graduation in Lincoln. The food was excellent, good value for money and cooked to perfection. Breakfast the next day in the adjoining cafe (part of the pub) was really good too. All in all, the whole package was not at all disappointing and I would thoroughly recommend staying there.

Yet another visit to this fantastic pub. The lunchtime baguettes are amazing and great value for money. The only issue I have is with the guy complaining about his steak as the George has not had steak on the menu for quite some time. My advice is to ignore that review and try the pub for yourself, it's brilliant.

I popped in with my dog and we were made very welcome. Lovely atmosphere with local people chatting and included me, made me feel welcome. The staff were very friendly and I had a hot chocolate and I really enjoyed scrambled egg on toast. I was so looking forward to popping in again on my next visit to Sleaford but I was very sad to read a newspaper article saying it has closed for good. So sad after 101 years in the town that this had to close.

Fabulous little cafe on the A17. What a perfect find - delicious food, all very reasonably priced, and served with a smile. We bought a slice of cake each to enjoy later and these were also very tasty and beautifully light. Cash only - no cards. Plenty of parking outside.

Came for our works Christmas party End of November 2024. We hired the barn and had a lovely buffet, food was lovely and service was excellent. The hand carved ham was delicious. Excellent venue, we had lots of fun and there was a singer on the the yard part so we got the best of both worlds Thank you Ryan, Hollie and staff xx
