Cannot day enough good things about The Bell. Service is always spot on, food is delicious and it is always cosy and welcoming. We like to try new places but always come back to this one. If you love seasonal grub that is a bit special but not pretentious this is the place for you. We love it. It’s not the cheapest but worth every penny.

Beautifully presented and cooked three course lunch coupled with professional service. We were seated promptly and found plenty of choice on the Sunday lunch menu. We all ordered different starters which were served together and all were delicious. The quality of the ingredients and the seasoning was perfect. The mains were also excellent and the lovely hot plate ensured the meal was delicious to the last bite. The dessert was my favourite sticky toffee pudding for a while and could have eaten more!

From start to finish this was the perfect place to eat. Greeted by the Chef at the bar where he went through and explained some of the menu choices. This made deciding so much easier. The waiting staff, though young were attentive but not in your face. Absolutely recommend this little gem !

A dynamic menu that was varied and highly enticing. The quality of the food was exceptional with a real passion for taste, combinations and texture. Make no mistake this was very high quality fare mixed with attentive knowledgeable service. The wine choice, the beer and the after dinner drinks were also different and well thought through with some fascinating french wine all sourced with a passion. Paul and his wife were devine hosts and were utterly brilliant at accommodating some specific dietary issues that meant the whole party felt included and specially catered for. This was a wonderful evening and we cannot believe that we had not heard of The Bell before. We only booked at table 6hrs before and had no idea The Bell with its unique attention to detail and super decoration would be this good. If you have a special occasion go here - you will not regret it. If you have no special occasion go anyway - I would eat there every day if I could. What a find.

Excellent food from start to finish. Invited to look at the menu before we went to the table. I had pigeon which was excellent and then duck for main course. The duck was cooked perfectly and still pink. My partner had a fillet steak which was also cooked perfectly, although did have a slightly peppery taste. Followed by a cheese board which was a nice end to the meal. Service was top draw and anyone in the service industry should come here for a lesson in customer service! Excellent !

First impressions this is not your average pub fare, more gastro pub and the cost of the meal reflects this. Our party included 9 adults with the table being pre-booked. On arrival the pub has a traditional country feel and we received a warm welcome from the owner. When asked the owner and staff gave good advice on the menu which had a comprehensive selection of food. As it was Sunday there was a a roast beef option, but also everything from fish, chicken. There were a range of starters ordered which came quickly and there were no complaints. The Lincolnshire Poacher soufflé was exceptional. With time to relax the mains arrived and again the presentation and taste were exceptional from roast beef, fish and chips, Pappardelle Pasta and corn feed chicken with black pudding there were no complaints from our party. For those that were able to manage a pudding the owner recommended bread and butter pudding and the Bakewell tart. Honestly the puddings were exceptional, especially the bake well tart which was the best. Overall the staff were very friendly, attentive and with drinks for 9 adults the cost was nearing £360. Overall great food, atmosphere and we will be returning

I have not been to The Bell for several years and a friend had recently been so we decided to go. The welcome was excellent, the lads behind the bar, who also served the meal were attentive and polite. I feel that the female host could have interacted a little more, though I appreciate they were busy. We were sat at a table in the bar initially and though our table was ready, we were not called up to it until after the reservation time, and it took a while to take our order. Having said that, after we ordered the food came fairly swiftly. I can’t criticise the quality of the food; it was well cooked, hot and tasty. It was expensive for “pub grub” but it wasn’t your normal pub grub, the quality was that of a good restaurant. The chef came out to talk to us, yes he was sweating a little; it was a warm and muggy evening and he was working in a hot kitchen. He asked us if our meal was alright and we had a short conversation together. Having looked on the website prior to visiting, I was aware of the cost, so there was no surprise. If I was going to criticise anything, I personally like real ale, but I don’t like Timothy Taylor beers, and that is all the had. There are a number of local breweries who make excellent ales and maybe The Bell should support them. All in all a good evening and I would definitely go back, providing my table wasn’t by the door to the kitchen!

Arrived for a birthday meal with my family to be greeted by the owner sat in a chair and his opening words were "Oh, come to give me something to do have you?" not the best welcome. The young lads that were serving were great, polite and attentive and quickly showed us to our table and took our drinks order. The menu had a great selection of dishes and we placed our order. The food came pretty quickly and was hot and well presented. I selected the seafood Thermidor which excellent, but rather small for the £10 price tag! The sirloin steak for the main was cooked to perfection and served with an exquisite pepper sauce - outstanding! But unfortunately the owner was constantly patrolling the restaurant dressed in very tight chefs whites and short trousers and sweating profusely. No interaction with the customers other than a surly "Alright?" halfway through the meal whilst depositing a large drop of sweat onto the table - lovely! When I came to pay at the end I was informed by one of the pleasant lads that only the lady of the house could take my payment, which she duly did, without a thank you, how was your meal or anything? Very disappointed in the total lack of customer care by the owners as it just seemed to ooze total arrogance. Real pity as the food was excellent, but would rather dine somewhere where you are at least made to feel welcome.

We had been to The Bell Inn many years ago and remembered it as somewhere we had enjoyed visiting. When friends staying with us suggested a meal out we picked The Bell on an impulse. The positive is that the food was exceptional, really high quality in all respects. I had the rack of lamb which was superb as was the halibut which our friends chose (albeit a little smaller in size). The desserts were, without exception, fantastic; almost worth a visit alone. Sticky toffee pudding with a butterscotch sauce, warm bakewell with honeycomb ice cream and bread and butter pudding were the order of the day. The reason for my heading is the cost. There is no denying that the food was worth the cost but this is not standard pub fare. If you are looking for top quality food in a cosy restaurant then fine. If you are just looking for a pub to have a meal this may not be for you. The meal for four with a couple of drinks (not a bottle of wine in sight) was approaching £200 so as I say 'be prepared'. When all is said and done, we may well revisit because of how much we did enjoy the food. We are saving up!!

Food was delicious, well done to Paul for making such amazing food. However, our experience was massively let down by the awful waiting staff. A lot of them seem very young and inexperienced, so a lot more training is needed. Our food was taken away while we were still eating, which I found very rude and as if we were being rushed out. We were only given one tiny pat of butter between 6 people, so had to ask for more which took forever. However the worst part of the whole experience was the maitre d', a tall blonde woman that seemed far more interested in drinking gin and tonics at the bar than actually serving people. She spent most of the evening sat on a chair between the entrance and the bar, so all the customers had to squeeze past her ladyship. Paul - your food is incredible, so why do you hire such rubbish waiting staff?

We tried out the bell at Coleby as had heard good things. Well if ever a place was trading on an outdated reputation then we certainly found it. I decided to have tempura battered fish as wanted a light fish. The batter was not tempura and was thick and heavy. The fish was practically non-existent, a small fillet smothered in the batter, which was poorly cooked (most likely through old oil being used in the fryers). Had my husband and I been dining alone we would have sent both courses back. I would not recommend this pub for food.

As our table wasn't until 8pm I felt we were rushed and ended up going through to our table early and ordering. The food was excellent, however the service was slow. Mostly youngsters that required a bit of training. We were sat fairly near the kitchen door and each time it opened we felt a very cold draught. I am not sure if there was an external door open but this really wasn't very nice.

My absolute favourite restaurant for a night without kids! ; ) We were here almost three weeks ago after not visiting for almost a year, but as usual, the food was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere is always really welcoming, the staff friendly and the food delicious. Looking forward to coming many more times (we just need to find a babysitter ;)

We celebrated a family birthday here recently in a private room for 14, and the food was delicious. Sadly however, despite a meeting to discuss our various requirements, followed up by a clear email confirming what we needed, the 'gluten free' meal that was pre-ordered was not gluten free. The meal was replaced with a suitable dish, but the cavalier approach of the chef showed that he does not understand the dangers of eating gluten for those diagnosed with coeliac disease. A shame, because this spoiled what could have been a perfect celebration.

Worth travelling out of Lincoln to The Bell. Whether you go for the early evening menu or the post 6.30pm menu, the food is just the same and the service is precise, courteous and helpful. We went on Saturday night and, although it was buzzing the food was exceptional. Everything freshly cooked, local veg and always hot. Cannot recommend highly enough.

I booked an evening meal for 2 well in advance, emailed Paul at the bell who was very prompt and accommodating emailing me back. The pub is lovely, a relaxing atmosphere and fabulously decorated. I ate off the early bird menu and my other half off the a la carte menu, the food was fabulous. It is expensive but you get what you pay for and for a special occasion it’s well worth it. We will be returning in the near futures.

We visited The Bell for my husbands birthday, we immediately felt welcome, there is a warm, cosy atmosphere, perfect for a romantic meal for two. The evening was set with the roaring fire and candlelight, the front of house was extremely accommodating, a lovely gentleman with a good sense of humour. The food was delicious, well executed and perfectly cooked, with the price to match, a lovely evening and highly recommended.

We visited The Bell on Thursday evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were greeted well and the service all evening was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We were given the choice of having our drinks in the lounge whilst studying the menus of going straight to our dining table. We opted for the latter. The food was excellent, we were even offered more vegetables if we wanted, which we didn't as the plates were full enough. The service well timed and the surroundings were very pleasant. The cost was slightly more than we would normally pay, but sometimes you're worth it!

We were guests at a private dinner for 12 at a Silver Wedding party. The room provided was perfect and the table beautifully laid. The service was outstanding and extremely personal and friendly. The food was sublime. Plentiful for every course and of the very highest quality. The Beef Wellington was so tender, you could cut it like warm butter!Lisa and Paul are fabulous hosts and we cannot recommend The Bell at Coleby enough, both for formal occasions and casual dining. The wines were exceptional and Paul's culinary knowledge is incredible. Lisa provides a beautiful atmosphere with the decor and flowers. They make a superb team.We also stayed the night and the accommodation was absolutely first class. Paul's full English breakfast gave us a wonderful send off.We live over two hours drive away but we will definitely be back. Many thanks Lisa, Paul and the team.

Lovely village pub/restaurant, beautifully appointed getting the balance of cosy and fresh just right. If you only call in for a pint the beer is excellent. All drinks are beautifully served and the bar area is a very pleasant place to be.The food is excellent. The chef owner is always on the premises, apparently if he is not available they do not open, so you can be sure he has a keen interest in the experience you receive. The service was very good, friendly but efficient. I would have liked to see more non-French wine on the list, there was only one, but the wines that are on there are excellent. I was told the wine list changes fairly frequently but I am not sure if world wines make more of an appearance.I will to return if I am in the Lincoln area, I loved it.

And for this one does pay a little more than your average local pub.

An excellent location, it appears as a pub on the outside but is obviously a restaurant inside. There is only a very tiny bar area, so if you fancy a drink before dinner , go elsewhere first. It has a very wide selection on the menu with many varied starters and main courses ( including a curry! Strange in a predominantly English food restaurant) The starters arrived on thin plates so a lot of the food ended up on the table cloth but was otherwise excellent. The wine was also very good and the wine list varied and and well thought out. The mains arrived promptly, also excellent cuisine, well presented and delicious. So far the service had been excellent. We then ordered a cheesecake and cheese and biscuits for desert. 20 minutes later we were still waiting so got the attention of a waitress. 15 minutes later we were still waiting so then we cancelled the deserts. Asked for the bill and it came to just shy of £100. The staff were extremely apologetic and could not have been more professional. Due to the lateness of a taxi , the owner came out who was a welcoming man and offered us a free drink next time we decided to return. All of this was fine and it was a kitchen issue as opposed to a front of house issue. The point is this: if I pay for excellent wine and food , I expect the service which comes with the price tag. It did put a real damper on the evening not having completed our meal and having to nurse the last vestiges of our wine, wondering if our food was going to actually arrive. Like the title says " it could have been excellent, but...." . We will return but probably not for a year or so.

I wanted to go somewhere that did decent food without filling my plate with foam or weird snail and beetroot combinations. A friend recommended the Bell to us so we booked in.From the minute we arrived Paul and Lisa (and all the staff) couldn't do enough to make us feel more welcome. We were shown to a large comfortable spotlessly clean room. We went down for dinner which can only be described as amazing, the Prawns to start were large and tasty, then the steak just melted in your mouth, without any dry ice or theatre except for the passionately cooked meal with the finest ingredients placed in front of us.Not once did the meal feel rushed, even being given time to take a walk around the village before starting on the cheese selection. We arranged to be down for breakfast at a sensible time, where Paul and his chefs freshly cooked the largest tastiest breakfast with the same passion and enthusiasm as they had done with the meal the night before. This may not be the cheapest place to eat, it certainly isn't the most expensive, but it's quality is what you're paying for.I'll certainly be returning to sample more of the menu, thanks Paul and Lisa for making our 25th wedding anniversary weekend that little bit more special.

Excellent Sunday lunch. Lovely bread to begin with then Fish cakes to start which were delicious. Then some of us had lamb with a rosemary jus & the rest had beef with Yorkshire pud. They were both very tasty. They were served with cauliflower cheese & perfectly cooked veg which included green beans, romanesco broccoli, sugar snaps, spinach & peas. Desert was a yum chocolate cheesecake & icecream , bread & butter pudding with custard & raspberry crème brûlée. All our plates were clean even though we were all really full but it was too good to leave. Staff serving us were pleasant & friendly & the decor is lovely - Modern enough but still in keeping with an old characterful building. The bill for 7 people was just under £225 & also included some drinks but we also had 2 jugs of tap water. There were a lot more dishes on the menu than I have mentioned soup, battered tiger prawns, pâté with chutney & Melba toast to name a few starters, for mains there was also pigeon, a mushroom risotto & others but I can't remember. Other puds were lemon posset, sticky toffee pudding, warm brownie & icecream, cheese & biscuits. It was a tough choice!I can't wait to go back & try all the things I didn't have today.

a party of two looking for a great meal and we got one. All three courses were superb and cooked to perfection. The only down side was the £36 pound bottle of white wine that turned up in a cooler opened and was plonked on the table without being shown to us or a tasting offered, we were left to see if it was what we ordered and to serve it ourselves. I ask myself why such a price tag in that case. That said the meal was wonderful and the chef/proprioter was very friendly. The place was very nice inside and the menue varied. For a sunday lunch menu there were loads of things to choose from, once we had chosen we remained sat outside in the sun until out starters were ready when a waiter showed us to our perfectly laid table. We all had 3 courses and loved every dish, the cheese soufflé starter was particularly good as was the double chocolate brownie! i must mention once again about the staff, rarely have i had a meal where i have felt so welcome and looked after even though they were quite busy.

Visited The Bell with a group of friends on Friday night for dinner. Menu featured old fashioned dishes. Nothing wrong with offering classic dishes, in fact I quite like seeing them on menus nowdays when every other place claims to be a Heston Blumenthal's distant relative and fails terrible to deliver a good standard of food. I had high expectations after been told to expect only the best from a very experienced chef. Maybe that was what went wrong. Can't say it was awful but can't say it was brilliant either. Average at best. And average doesn't go very well with the price they charge. Service was poor, provided by a group of youngsters that lacked manners and professionalism; with exception of one young lady that was trying her hardest to offer a half decent service, but then easy to shine when others were so bad. Perhaps if the chef spent more time in his kitchen and less time chatting behind the bar the food would be better; unless it was his day off and then I would suggest he shouldn't be wearing his chef's white! Won't return and wouldn't recommend.

Well returned after a while here for my birthday meal as a treat. What a disappointment after our first visit a year or so ago.Menu choice was fairly high end with prices to match. £28.95 for a rump steak with trimmings. We both opted for the chicken liver pate which although very tasty was topped with about a 3mm of solid butter and the brushetta had been sliced that thinly and toasted it was more like a wafer thin crisp, and nowhere near enough to cope with the reduced sized portion of pate.My partner opted for the steamed lamb in suet, as that was about all that took his fancy without breaking the bank. I opted for the beef stroganoff. Both were well cooked there was no doubt about that and the plates were hot but the portion of rice I had wouldn't have filled a baby to the point where I was left eating just the stroganoff on its own. Not even the best tasting one I have eaten. Saving grace was the puddings although even these were extremely small portions with runny custard.

Having found this place on Tripadvisor, I knew it was going to be a nice place to go, but it genuinely surpassed expectations. Although the pictures don't make it look like much, having dined here it's fast become a family favourite. Wholesome, hearty meals, great portion sizes, perfectly cooked and very reasonably priced - I don't think I have a bad thing to say about this humble restaurant. The service was attentive and friendly, the food was just delicious. We all had a bit of each others because we were so sure ours was the best dish on the table! I don't often write about eating out. However my wife and I agreed this place deserves wide acclaim, based on our two visits, albeit and too my regret 5 years apart.Paul shook us by the hand and did not rush us into seating or ordering, we relaxed by a wood fire in an old fashioned wingback.Sunday dinner is a set menu, and you will have trouble deciding. Take it as read that you'll be satisfied for quantity and quality. The service is swift or slow as you desire, if a knife hits the deck the staff replace it - no fuss. The bill was not extortionate. I only wish I could have found room for dessert. Or sat outside with a beer. Again, no room. It won't be another 5 years that's for sure. Go there.

We had been for a family countryside walk and worked up an appetite! We stumbled across the bell at Coleby and immediately felt warm and welcomed. The decor classic but modernised in sync with village living. We opted for 3 courses I had Thai prawns for starters which were fresh, juicy and the batter crisp. My husbands soufflé was light and the cheese leek and bacon sauce was rich and tasty as you would expect. The mains were gorgeous, beef cooked to perfection and the onion tart with Stilton was lovely. The boys didn't leave much of there generous portion of fish goujons and homemade chips. Desserts were again gorgeous, large choice of traditional puddings and delicate desserts. We are now having a perfect Sunday afternoon nap. We went for Saturday lunch. When we arrived we was told it was a 30-45 minute wait for food the pub was empty. But a few tables sat outside with kids. We ordered something easy. Ham egg and chip. After waiting the time they said our food arrived. The chips was cold and the egg looked like it had been sat for 10 minutes. They had an inflatable assault course for kids in the garden which is a great attraction for people with kids. But I wouldn’t advise going for a meal !! 🤮
