Thank goodness I know the area as finding and parking is fun!! That said the ambiance is terrific the staff very welcoming and the food superb. A finer cut of beef would be hard to find, and that it hadn't come far a testament to Mr Grumpy and his herd of cattle. Mrs Grumpy has a herd of goats and from them beautiful cheese products. I would definitely recommend to anyone if you've not tried, and in Winter a log fire is most welcoming.

What a fabulous place. Loved every second of our visit from start to finish. Quirky, cosy and rustic, and the food was divine. Starters were beautiful and the steaks were second to none. Made to feel very welcome by the lovely attentive staff and great banter with the grumpy farmer too. We will definitely be back and will be highly recommending this excellent experience to everyone, Just take extra care on the driveway down as it’s full of potholes. Thank you to all at the Bull Shed. We really loved it and will be back.

If you like wonderful steak and an unusual place to eat it, this is for you. I’ve eaten here loads of times and love it, the restaurant is in one of the barns. There is a bar at one end and nice warm open fire in the centre of the room. The staff are great and the food is brilliant. I love the steaks, and the home brewed ale is perfect. You cannot just turn up so I recommend booking a while in advance as it gets very busy. You have to enquire for a table by text message and allow a few days for a reply.

Heard a lot about the Bull Shed and it all added up to a most enjoyable experience. Order your steak by phone, Drive down half flooded lanes to reach the venue and be amazed at the size and quality of the plateful. I ordered. T-bone and it was so huge the meat overhung the sizzling platter it was served on. Rated up there with the best cuts of beef I’ve ever had. Served with a bowl of fries, mushroom and tomato. No room for anything else - literally. They brew there own beer too, with is rather tasty. Beware though. No cards accepted - cash or pay via BACS. Highly recommended

This little gem is hidden away deep in the Derbyshire countryside . A diamond find if ever there was one! I can honestly say my partner and I had the best fillet steak we had ever tasted , the Stilton sauce we ordered to go with it was absolutely mouth watering! Honestly blown away. We were up in Derbyshire from St Albans visiting family and the Bill Shed had been recommended by some of their friends. It’s such a beautiful little farm, rustic but honest and awesome as a result. I can’t remember the last time I went somewhere so honest (or ‘authentic’). It’s just a restaurant on a farm - no frills. Anyway, food was delicious - started with goats cheese made from goats on the farm which was sublime (so mild, creamy, almost not like goats cheese, just lovely and fresh). Then steak - which is I think the only real option here. I had t-bone, my wife fillet and we both loved it. They also knocked us up a gluten free peppercorn sauce which was fiery - a belter. Didn’t have desert as we were full! Topped that off with a glass of port though. Oh and had a few pints of ‘grumpy farmer’ ale which was a nice drop. Service spot on - just a delightful evening.

Really enjoyed our meal last night. Great food, charming people running the farm, Sue was very helpful and friendly and there were lovely young staff. We will definitely go again. Booking via text was simple & we were able to swap chips for dauphinois potatoes for a particular meal- which was very kind of them. Their website advises to wrap up warm & this is very true!! Despite the lovely fire it was still a little chilly so we were glad to have gone wearing thick jumpers etc.

How to describe the Bull Shed. Well it’s situated on a working farm set amongst the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. The restaurant as it’s name suggests is in an old cow shed which has been sympathetically converted to provide a clean, comfortable, welcoming yet rustic environment. The staff are friendly. The whole experience is absolutely authentic, this is a working farm that has diversified, you drive down a farm track, park in a farm yard and eat in an old cow shed. It is honest, it is wonderful. All bookings are handled by txt as the team are farmers by day, food needs to be pre-ordered and payment is via cash or bank transfer only. The food can’t get much more locally sourced: they grow cows and goats here, they make their own cheese and brew their own beer: so if you like steak, cheese and beer this place is absolutely for you. My food was fresh, perfectly cooked and tasted amazing 10/10.To the team at Bull Shed, please do not change a thing.

Certainly a long way off the ‘beaten track’ and you need to make sure you know where you’re going, especially after dark, but it’s absolutely worth the effort.Very ‘rustic’ setting which is, quite literally, an old bull or cattle shed which has been tastefully and cleverly converted into a very welcoming restaurant. The food, which we had ordered long before we actually visited, was faultless. Beautifully and perfectly cooked to order and also extremely well presented and served. Don’t be put off by the extra charge for sauces. We didn’t actually order any but those who did appeared to get a small individual jam jar of sauce not a mere spoonful. In short, the Bull Shed may not be the last word in sophistication and the food may be relatively simple...but it is very, very good indeed, and our ‘anniversary evening’ was made even better by the fact that, unbeknown to us, our children had already paid...something which the very attentive waitress (owner?) kept a discreet secret until it was time to leave. We’ll definitely be back...might even pay next time!

Met with some friends for a cosy, friendly and delicious meal at the Bull Shed. This is such a nice and simple concept. A rustic restaurant as part of a farm, so you know that the meat is all ethically sourced. You have to text your order as they only cook to your order as not to waste anything. The friendly staff (including the "grumpy farmer") were very welcoming. The menu is so tasty, but it makes difficult to decide. We had the T-bone, gammon and steak and mushroom pie, which were all incredible. Looking around the pizzas and burgers also looked amazing. All were served with chips, onion rings, peas, mushrooms and a tomato. Also the desserts (we had the brownie) were very good. The portions were large and exactly what we needed. As you're in a barn and the toilets are outside I would imagine it does get a bit cold in the winter months, although they do have a log burner. So text your order and go!Tip: we left the car and walked there from Belper, which was a gorgeous walk and a good way to work up an appetite.

This was a fabulous evening to remember for all the right reasons – unpretentious; great food; friendly staff; nice atmosphere and such massive servings that neither of us could manage any pud, despite the list on the board being very, very tempting. It's not a place to dress up – the farm yard is not suitable for high heels and leave your low-slung sports car at home – it won't make it down the track from the lane.

If you like restaurants with fawning staff telling you to "Enjoy" (just knowing you are going to have to pay 12% service on your card at the end) , while they serve you a giant plate with one mouthfull of food in the middle surrounded by a squiggle of sauce and a berry unknown accompanied by a tiny glass of wine at 7 quid. One where you go to the loo and there's piped music and automatic blowers whilst you dog sits out in the car, - then this place is NOT for you !! Not your average restaurant. It’s a little out of the way and the track to the barn itself is very uneven and bumpy (if you have a low car, I wouldn’t recommend attempting it!). The toilets are outside and decor of the restaurant is very rustic. However, it’s amazing! The staff are really kind and welcoming and the steak, oh my. I had the fillet and it was cooked to perfection. A teeny salty for me, but I still loved it. They’re served on sizzle plates on cute little chopping boards. The chips are fab!!I didn’t drink alcohol so can’t comment on that. They don’t have a ‘normal’ booking system. They’re only open Thursday-Saturday and you have to text them for availability. It’s booking only so you can’t just turn up but the place only has a handful of tables so it’s understandable. It would be lovely if you could sit outside as the view is great so it’s a shame you can’t enjoy it while there. Overall, it’s amazing and I’ll 100% be going back and would fully recommend it to anyone.

I pre-ordered a rib-eye steak and it was one of the best I've ever had, and I've had a few!The grumpy farmer was gloriously grumpy and all the other staff were fantasticCan't recommend The Bull Shed highly enough.Pie night is a real winner too with a great selection of very good pies and an "eat until it's all gone" policy which makes for a great evening out

This is our 5th visit and cant rate it highly enough. Food excellent and very hot. Very welcoming staff. You feel like your sat in a room amongst friends cos the atmosphere is the best. It can be cold depending where you are sat and yes the loo really isn’t for the faint hearted (especially for us girls) hasn’t put us off though. Can’t wait to go again.

People we know raved about this place so we booked and went. Not difficult to find, long bumpy drive, still all good. Had a job to find the entrance, not many lights up.Inside exceptionally cold and windy, warm atmosphere but thats the only heat.Food ordered online a per instructions.Food cooked and delivered quite quickly. The food was ok but nothing special, I don't know what we expected but I think we thought it would be better than it was.The toilets were pre historic. If it had been a little warmer we may have enjoyed it more, not a fault of the restaurant.Shop bought onion rings lowered the quality of the meal.

Visited The Bulls Head this weekend and was certainly not disappointed. It took a little while to find the way in to the premises but once inside had an extremely pleasant evening. We both had gammon and egg and the presentation was great and the food was excellent and very reasonably priced, as were the drinks. It was just like going over to friends for a cracking meal as we felt like old friends. Would highly recommend this place for good honest food with a very different venue. We will certainly be back there.

There were nine of us having a birthday dinner. I cannot recommend this place enough. The decor is quirky as a previous reviewer said, but the ambience is relaxed, cosy and friendly. The staff are wonderful - friendly, accommodating, professional. The food is knockout. Best gammon steak I have had (and I’ve eaten a fair few). Tastiest, crispiest onion rings. The rest of my party all had steaks which are served sizzling on hot plates and remain hot for the duration of consumption. I started with a ribs starter so afterwards had no room for anything else. Fabulous!

Unusual, Quirky, A different dining experience.. Try It..Need to book via text message in advance as it is VERY popular. We visited with friends for "Pie Night", It took a little finding and then a down fairly long farm drive to the building/ barn.Enter through a large wooden door, then through one heavy curtain, then another and into the barn / dining area / bar. Made to feel very welcome ordered drinks including some of their own brewed beer.(Very Nice Too) Then the power went off, shown to our table by torchlight!.When the power came back on the pies were brought out at 7pm and each table is called to the "servery" you can have up to 3 portions of pie and all the trimming including mushy peas. Then when everyone has been served you can have seconds although not many people have room! Excellent Pies, so tender and tasty, and a good range 4 or 5 types including on this occasion Lancashire Hotpot. So different, very enjoyable, hope to return for a "Steak Night" in the new year.

Read the website to fully understand this place. Goole maps- select bulls shead (not brewery) else you will struggle to find it. Go in through the green door, still not totally sure where the toilet ks The grumpy farmer plays the part beautiful. Had 2 pints of the lovely grumpy farmer. Thursady night, tried 3 of the pies *carvery pie, not individual pies*. All together on one plate with a choice of spud n veg and amazing gravy...... what more could you want. Whole room seated by 7pm called up table at a time. Reasonable price, all in all a great night out. Thanks guys, we will be back (book well in advance as this place is very very popular and so it should be).

Second visit & the food was a lot better than the first visit (2016). You have to pre-order food via text days before your visit. There were 8 of us dining, different types of steaks were ordered & some had the homemade pie due to dietary requirements. Check the menu on the website as different foods are served on different days. Atmosphere is lovely, only downside is the toilet isn’t in the place you eat.

If you want something a bit different and pies are your thing this is the place for you. Great atmosphere in the shed and choice of pies with veg, chips, mash and gravy. You are called up to fill your plate and I do mean fill your plate then when everyone has been served if you can manage some more you just go for it. Food is washed down with a couple of pints of "grumpy farmer" and then it is time to waddle out and go home. As this is a working farm beware of the lane leading down it is pot holed.

Have been wanting to try The Bull Shed for a while and eventually got organised and booked by text for pizza and steak night. They ask that you preorder steak cuts ahead, although everything is cooked fresh and to your preference. Starters and desserts are available on the evening. Great atmosphere in the Shed, welcoming host and friendly staff. It is a Shed, don’t expect fine dining and interior design. If you have a large table food won’t all be served together as they can only cook 4 steaks and 2 pizzas at a time, they do try to be quick though. For me this all adds to the charm and quirkiness of the place. Our steaks were great, thick and of good quality. All served with tomato, chips (lovely crispy and fluffy inside), peas and mushrooms with a couple of choices of sauce. We had a garlic pizza bread to start and ended with a sticky toffee pudding services with ice cream. The pizzas being served looked fab too.We had a great evening, people were friendly and the atmosphere convivial. Look forward to returning for pie night.

Told about this place by a stranger while out cycling. You would never drive past it !It is a converted Bull shed, so do not expect to be dining on carpeted floor, its the original stone floor, all characterYou can only book by text, but its well worth the effort.Great steaks, great service, good price and friendly staff.Very rough farm track for last 200 yards, be warned.

We visited the bulls shed after walking from blackbrook with our dog. We had pre ordered our ribeye steak. The surroundings are very rustic and charming and they welcome dogs which is a nice change. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. I would recommend the bulls shed as the steak was absolutely delicious. I could cut my steak with an ordinary knife. The pudding were homemade and the portions were large.

A must if you're in the area! In the middle of nowhere, & booking has to be done by text, but well worth the effort. We went on steak night & had 2 fantastic steaks. We shared a garlic bread to start, which was more than enough for two. It is cash only & very spit & sawdust (exactly as it says on the tin - the bullshed) but the food was amazing - can't wait to try pie night!

Wonderful. If you live anywhere near this quirky little restaurant you must visit. You have to book by test on the phone number given and pre-order your food, steaks burgers and pizzas usually except on a Thursday which is pie night. It is excellent.

Have used this cafe regularly since moving from Wales, have tired other cafes in the area but in my opinion this the best. decent menu choice nice home made soups, decent portions, food is hot not just warm, serve the one of the fresh salads I have had for a longtime. Pleasant and very friendly staff. Ok it is only a cafe but it is well worth a visit if you are in Ripley Price are not over the top either

I've eaten here a couple of times recently and the food was great. I love that it stays open late, while other places are closing.
