The best restaurants serving Default food in Rother South East

I Have been using Happy House for 30 years but today was my last time. The food was poor. Flavourless undercooked rubbish. I moved 20 miles away from Rye and whenever I came back I would look forward to Happy House takeaway! It used to be great quality food and consistent too but in recent years it's gone dramatically down hill to the point I can no longer defend or recommend it. Today I had possibly the worst Chinese takeaway I've ever had.

What a charming delightful place. Our suite with terrace was perfect. Clean, spacious, sumptuous bedding and amazing facilities. We had a delicious supper and were royally looked after by Rachel and Mel. Highly recommend if you are in the area. Thank you so much Fairlight Cove

Very disappointing £15.70 for a pot of tea, sausage roll and Cornish!!! Both had soggy pastry. What a shame

Popped in for lunch, it was extremely busy but was still offered a drink whilst waiting as there was a table just available being cleaned. Staff were attentive and food , scallops , steak & burger was spot on , especially the crispy fat chips which were yummy.

Fantastic place to eat, great food and service kind staff . We all had a lovely time in a relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely go again. Thank you all especially our waitress SHANIA.

Amazing price of £10 for three courses on a fish Friday. The service was efficient, food good and ambience fine. We can't work out how the Star Inn can keep the prices so very reasonable. Definitely recommend and will visit again if in the area.

Oh dear, just been to order pizza… wanted a margarita with just pineapple, but was told ‘no can do’ but could have ‘ham and pineapple’… asked if could have that but no ham as a vegetarian, but no 🤬 unbelievable!

My family and I had two excellent meals here over our weekend break. Our first meal was on the Friday night after a long drive from home. We enjoyed it so much we booked again for the Sunday Lunch which was amazing. As well as the food being fabulous, we received excellent service and hospitality from Matt, Lisa and Lily who could not have been more helpful. Thank you all you all so much.

A magnificent spot but the food is always such a disappointment, On this occasion I settled for coffee & cake, A sawdusty, bland slab of Christmas cake, The cake portions are generous, too generous. I'd prefer a smaller tastier portion. I'd love to come here & enjoy lunch or a good quality cake & coffee. Please try harder DLW.

I intended to go but when I called to find they still did not have a toilet we could use I gave up in DESPAIR. I used to love going here, especially as they made such a good attempt at vegan comfort food like toad in the hole. A friend went recently...still no toilet. My Mum is 97...we are not walking with the rollator to the public toilets a good 15 min walk away.

Visited yesterday (15/3/25), nice sunny day but still cold. 108 mile round trip from Crawley, good route for biking. Been there before several times, then we even gave the chef a best "Tuna mayo with red onion baguette" of the 80 cafes we visit throughout the Sussex area. And here's the rub, since the refurb last year & the introduction of the Morrisons small store food was very disappointing, we ordered the same "Tuna mayo with red onion baguette", the very friendly & polite serving person said "sorry no baguettes" can do it in a bap or as a sandwich. We opted for the sandwich, one white & one brown. We took or good quality fresh ground coffees' away & sat down awaiting the food. After a few minutes the very friendly server came to our table and said sorry no tuna, so we opted for an egg & bacon sandwich, one white one brown. The resulting sandwiches were on the thinnest, cheapest bread possible, the contents were fine. Unfortunately this has put them from the top of our table of 80 cafes for food quality & choice, all the way down to the bottom. To add salt to the wound, on our way out we walked around the inserted Morrison store, where you can purchase tins of tuna, forgot to look if the have baguettes. We like the ride there & back & will give them a second chance but there are at least 79 other cafes offering a better choice & quality of food.

We visited here while staying at the caravan park behind the pub and were really impressed with the service,the choice of menu and the quantity and quality of the food which was fantastic value for money.We'd thoroughly recommend.

Great pub in the high street in Burwash East Sussex have eaten in several times over the past 3 months and have not been disappointed the Sunday lunch is getting very busy so recommend you book your table so not to miss out. Home made pie are delicious and very popular with the local villages. Lovely family run pub with amazing views of Dudwell valley and accommodation. Well worth a visit. 😊

Appealing menu. Nice space with tablecloths making it look attractive. Handed menus quickly and told about Specials board. Staff took our food order and drinks, we hadn't been shown drink list, they were friendly. Drinks arrived quickly but waited over an hour for food! We hadn't been told about any delay or wait. Food was tasty but we were so hungry it was eaten quickly. Enquired about wait for dessert and we're told kitchen wouldn't even look at the order for at least 15 minutes . It was ridiculous as we wanted cheesecake with a scoop of icecream which any member of staff could have prepared.
