We had to queue for twenty five minutes to get two luke warm cappuccinos and four dry sausage rolls. The counter service was strange if not abrupt. We sat at a table with a dirty cup. Unbelievable that so many people are happy to receive such slow service for very average catering. Service should be streamlined and comply with the catering company's motto of 'modern since 1935'

The system here is fatally flawed with the set up. why do they have so many staff doing the same job behind the counter, why are the cakes/pastries separate from the queue/view? Why does it take so long to be served? The food is average but as it is a convenient location people become drawn in, even though we know it could be sooooo much better! Take a look at Blackbrooks Garden Centre just a couple of miles away, where the food is excellent the service is great and free parking !!! Make some money for the de la Warr, management!!!

Second time eaten here before a gig. On each occasion waiter came to apologise for delay in service - food eventually arrived after 45 minutes - this is pre gig dining so needs to be quicker. Wine in cans with plastic glasses is not good. On our first visit had fish and chips which was ok. Second time had the burgers which had over toasted buns, no bacon with it as described on menu, very little cheese and pretty dry burger. Couldn’t find any sauces to disguise taste. Lacked the time to ask or complain. It was very over priced. Best bit was the view out of the window. Really needs improvement.

Shop is rip off. Autistic adult daughter brought 5 small child items all priced £6 and under. Nothing over £10. I cheek prices before letting her by what she wanted. As teaching her independence and money value. I appreciate the shop prices are tourist in mind even though we was shocked to find the cashier charged her £40. Did he take advantage of her learning difficulties or did he take advantage off tourist traps. No receipt was given very disgusting and disappointed.

Small side plate of chips £5. Standard sandwiches all £10. Despite a polite reminder, our simple order took over 30 minutes to appear and they got our coffee order wrong too. All very disappointing. As locals, we are embarrassed that the De La Warr feels it’s acceptable to rip visitors off like this. Then again I suppose someone has to pay for some of the staff to hang around chatting while one or two others are working their nuts off.

Expensive coffee, not hot. Awful service, unbelievably slow, unbeaten in Bexhill 🤨 5 staff behind the counter..............one to take the order, one to make coffee, one to put milk in, one to put coffee on tray and one doing nothing. All falling over each other and chatting hence a 15 minute wait to get coffee in a queue of 6 🤬 It might have a lovely view but do yourself a favour................get your self a coffee elsewhere and just sit in there if you want the view!

The Restaurant has a fabulous view out to sea on the first floor, its such a shame it doesn't live up to the location. Our coffees were fine but the accompanying lemon drizzle cake was dry and missing the drizzle. My wife had a cheese and onion sandwich on what can only be described as a boring bread doorstop. For £9!!! it was very poor value for money, she left most of it for the seagulls. The menu is very limited, just a few burgers, sandwiches, cakes and drinks and expensive. Apart from the location there is nothing of note about this restaurant.

I stopped here for lunch with my husband and chose the vegetarian nachos option from the specials board. The plate arrived looking appetising and was tastefully stacked. Absolutely delicious. The combination of ingredients of deep fried nachos, spiced butternut and black bean chilli, cool coconut yoghurt and fresh avocado was inspired. We visited last weekend and were happy with our food, but being a coeliac I would have appreciated more allergen information- the only information provided on the menu was whether the food was vegan or not. Also as a general point- if chefs need to alter a dish because they have not catered for an allergy, it would be more generous to substitute an ingredient instead of simply removing an allergen.

I came here for a coffee with my husband when we were viewing a flat. It was almost empty. I explained that we only had 15 minutes before our appointment, and was told someone would be with us right away. Five minutes later were still waiting. We went back in and said, 'can we order the coffee here?' and again, 'she'll be with you in a minute.' Finally a waitress came over, we gave our order, we waited another five minutes (how long does it take to make two coffees when your place is empty?) and in the end, had to take them with us. My coffee was SO small and I had to pay 50p for soya milk - it's not 1990, vegan milk shouldn't have to cost extra. I then came back with a friend for lunch, had the arancini balls and they were lovely - again, however, no nice welcome from the staff that you'd expect in a place like that. I felt like we were an inconvenience. If this place wants to compete with Brighton venues it needs to up its game at the bar and in the restaurant, big time.

First off the small art gallery (and if you like art deco) the building is worth a visit, thats what the 1 rating is for. The cafe/bar was probably the worst cafe we have visited, and yet with large windows looking out onto the channel and seating on the balcony its a prime location for those who fancy a stop whilst walking along the seafront. Tables were dirty, staff looked like they would prefer to be elsewhere and a truck stop cafe have a better selection of cakes (what they did have were on a high table between a row of chairs and those queuing, so difficult for the less abled to reach) we didn’t bother ordering in the end as staff seemed to be choosing who they served and we were waiting ages. Think there was more of an atmosphere in the Lighthouse Lounge derelict cafe in the Goonies than here.

We go to the De La Warr about three times a year to see exhibitions and to have lunch outside on the terrace, weather permitting.I wrote a very favourable review about two years ago, the food at the time was adventurous and tasty with not a big choice but nonetheless a choice of what one could describe as a meal.Unfortunately in more recent times the choice is much reduced. The only hot meals offered are fish and chips and hamburger and chips. Sandwiches, pitta wraps and pizzas are on offer with various different cold platters, the dish of the day on the “specials board” was a bowl of soup, which I think is a pretty miserable effort. The fish and chips was good, the high point being the homemade sauce tartare, and the low point the rubbery little block of mushy peas that had gone through some mysterious process.I have eaten fish and chips three times on my last three visits due to the lack of choice. The website shows a good variety of mains for eleven pounds fifty on the GIG menu before evening events. Why is there such a limited lunch menu and why is fish and chips fourteen pounds?

Took elderly parent in a wheelchair and other adults here for fish and chips on Sunday. The building is lovely and easily accessible. I have visited before and this time we took a table by the window to enjoy the view over the lawn and gardens to the sea. We have been into the restaurant for sandwiches or coffee a few times over the past 4 years and mostly been just a bit disappointed. This visit was no exception, which is a shame, this building needs a great restaurant. First of all I must say the staff we met on Sunday were friendly and helpful, nothing at all against them. It's just a shame the food and ambiance weren't really up to scratch. The restaurant feels a bit run down and there was a music outlet set up in a corner with a few things on sale and a poor quality sound system playing. It no doubt has to be there somewhere, I've no objection to attempts to diversify the De la Warr's appeal, in fact it's very necessary, but this seemed out of keeping with the restaurant. As for the food... Locally caught fish and chips should be a safe bet in this seaside location, with the Hastings fishing fleet based only 5 miles away, but it was rather underwhelming. The batter was crisp while the portion of fish not generous or particularly tasty, and no indication what sort of fish it was. I do like to know what I'm eating. Skin-on chips are a fine idea, but not when the skin is covered in large black marks, and certainly not when served in small, rusty galvanized buckets! Pea fritters were a bit strange, two of our party of five liked them, the fresh tartare sauce was the best part of the meal. I didn't complain because didn't want to make a fuss and possibly upset my elderly mother. Will I go back? Probably because I do love the building, but only for the art exhibitions and a coffee. The restaurant does need to decide exactly what it wants to be and implement a positive scheme of improvement. Rustic is one thing, but rusty buckets for chips are unacceptable!

The shop has many books, gifts, and other items of interest. The Pavilion has recently been refurbished as a centre for the arts. From all accounts it is under utilised which is a pity. The building needs to bring in new ideas to maximise its usage. The cafe has some great views of the coast. There is a large car park with reasonable charges. The Pavilion is famous enough already, for its location, architecture, shop, exhibitions, concert-hall; and I have had tasty tea and scones in the cafe before. Now, a cooked meal, ordered at the counter in the slightly (but not wholly negatively - informally?) disorganised cafe/restaurant, where a separate, central layout of cakes etc.(not all price-tagged) seems uncertainly linked with the restaurant. Adds to the informal atmosphere, perhaps. And having ordered and negotiated the slightly dangerous doorway to it, one sits (in our case, out on the sunny balcony overlooking the terrace and with splendid sea-view).... anywhere, feeling uncertain the food will arrive (How does the waiter know where you are?). But, fairly quickly, arrive it does. And is delicious! Beautifully cooked and served in a professionally friendly manner: how could one have doubted? I cannot remember what we had; but that both of us were more than satisfied with the haute-ish cuisine chosen from a modest, but varied menu. Given the surroundings, the price was quite reasonable (even if the paper napkins got blown about; the price of eating on the otherwise desirable, a bit cramped, balcony....).

We took Grandma out for the day, so six of us. Lunch at the DLW was good honest food, without being spectacular in any way, unpretentious, fresh, suitable for the children as well, somewhat pricey (ouch) and portions not huge. Fish was fresh and nicely done, kids burgers passed the taste test (good juicy patty of meat), pasta tasty, and the fishcakes and salad were pretty good. It's a light and airy space with a wonderful view of the sea and it's all very clean and fresh looking. It was pretty full and service was slow, not really surprising. Plenty of kids and buggies, and noise. It's a large echoing space with nothing to deaden the noise. Staff seemed a bit young and inexperienced, possibly temporary for the season. Calm and reflective it aint. It's bustling with a bit of pressure to go and make room for others. There is a good lift upstairs for Grandma, and a good car park with disabled spaces is right outside the doors. Just below the restaurant is a large gallery area, which had an interesting exhibition. There is a busy café alongside the restaurant which was so full with queues it was difficult to get through. We love Art Deco style, and the building is of course a classic. Nice gardens as well and the kids had fun on the beach which included getting all their clothes wet. Ho hum. Is it always that windy ?

Perfectly nice cafe, but a bit cramped and can be very busy. The staf were efficient, but it still meant a long queue and cramped areas to sit. The drinks were fine.

just looking for somewhere to chill, watch the clouds race over the sea, have a glass of wine: found cafe and bar at the Pavilion. Friendly service, reasonably priced, easy access, and next to a large car park.

The building is lovely, the restaurant is well located with great sea views and there is a kiddies corner. The food was nice and well presented. The service was fast and polite. The issue I guess is the price. I don't know why it has to be so expensive for what it is. This has put us off going back, but we enjoyed the meal anyhow. Worth a visit, but bear in mind your budget. They had some odd meals like jacket potato with morrocan meatballs or grilled vegetables. The kids meals were better value for a meal, drink and icecream.

The beautiful architecture, the light and the fantastic view of the sea make this a wonderful place to be. On a sunny day there is nothing more delightful than sitting on the balcony looking out at the sea and enjoying the warmth. Yesterday I went and the sea was stormy and the rain was coming down and it was equally amazing (I didn't sit outside). The restaurant is nice with good food and good coffee. They have soup, salads, fish & chips, jacket potatoes, sandwiches and a children's menu. I had the vegetable mezze which had good flavours and was well presented. They had a good selection of afternoon tea cakes and scones as well. The art book shop is interesting there and you can also go to one of their free exhibitions. Exhibitions are of contemporary art so may not be to everyone's taste but of very high quality.

Having been driven home by friends the least I could do was offer them lunch !!! That is my excuse any way. The Pavilion is a great place to have an informal meeting, or spoil friends and the food is different and always good. Try the Vegetarian Mezze !!

What a wonderful building that is brought alive by attentive staff and delightful exhibtions, shows, food and views that on a sunny day could be looking out over the Med. An outside verandah allows for food, drinks and watching the world go by.

We visited the Pavilion as a family of six for lunch after reading reviews. We were a little unsure of what we'd find, but the uncertainty was blown away with stunning views, delicious food, and great service. The views from the restaurant are sweeping of the Bexhill beach and coastline further along. You can choose between eating inside or outside on the balcony; we started off outside, but the wind was a little chilly so we moved inside. The young lady waiting on us was bothered at all at my change of mind of seating and helpfully moved us inside with a smile on her face and friendly conversation. I was so impressed with her right from the start as she struck a great balance between being familiar, funny, and very attentive. My wife and I had the pancetta-wrapped hake (packed with muscles, prawns, and loads of veg), three of the children had the chicken goujons (fresh chicken breast in panko breadcrumbs), and one of my sons had the tomato pasta (stunningly rich sauce made with blended roast vegetables). To round the meal off, the children had their complimentary ice cream; so many places dish out rubbish quality ice cream for the kids, but this was Cornish ice cream from Callestick Farm and so it was utterly delicious and so all them polished off every drop (much to my disappointment!).All in all, it was a thoroughly excellent experience. Thank you to the chefs and waitress who really elevated the visit from good to great!

We were in the area and stopped by the De La Warr Pavilion for lunch on impulse. The food was reasonably priced, delicious and beautifully presented. The system for ordering was very well organised and the serving staff were friendly and efficient. Along with the beautiful views it felt like a special treat.

This was a lucky find. The menu is small but is varied. My crab and prawn sandwich with chunky chips was tasty and substantial, at a reasonable price. You can sit outside on the balcony facing the sea on a nice day or sit inside. There is a bar too. The cakes looked lovely but we were too full. I would definitely go again.

The staff are so rude I was standing there waiting for my drink today and the lady behind the counter was moaning about living here and saying the water and the food are terrible. Quite loudly - how rude. If she doesn’t want to live and work I t his country perhaps she could give the job to my son who lives locally and would like a job. Disgusting behaviour Costa!!!!!

A Mixed Experience at The George Inn, Rye My girlfriend and I recently dined at The George Inn in Rye with my parents, and unfortunately, it proved to be a rather disappointing experience. While the historic charm of the inn itself is undeniable, the food fell far short of expectations. To start, my girlfriend ordered the leeks, which were disappointingly chewy. My mother's chicken dish was excessively sweet, lacking any savory balance. For our main courses, my parents both opted for the fish and chips, hoping for a classic pub staple. However, the fish was utterly bland and lacked any discernible flavor. I chose a cod stew, which, thankfully, was quite delicious. However, my side order of chips was inedible, overwhelmingly salty to the point of being unpleasant. The saving grace of our visit was the Guinness, which was undeniably excellent. Perhaps The George Inn is best suited for a casual drink, as their culinary offerings left much to be desired. Based on our experience, I would hesitate to recommend The George Inn for a meal. There are undoubtedly better options in Rye for those seeking a satisfying dining experience.
