Stayed overnight in the motel rooms at the back of the pub. Room was basic but fine, a large room with a comfortable bed and decent bathroom. No breakfast. Didn’t like the look of the pub, very bright with sport on TV and nearly empty at peak time. Found a much nicer pub just up the road and spent the evening there, so just used the room as a place to crash for the night.

Definitely the worst pub I have ever been in. Struggled to order because all the glasses and mess on the bar. Sat at a table and right away was wet from the liquids just running off the table. The venue was dated with bad decor and looked more like a old public toilet. And the only people in there were the types that live in caravans full time.

Sadly disappointing Sunday Roast. We ordered 4 Sunday roasts and found the portion sizes to be disappointing, The menu stated honey roasted carrots and parsnips, but they honestly didn't look like they had even seen a oven or any honey. The 2 roast beef came out with 3 roast potatoes each but the 2 roast pork only came out with 2 potatoes each which we found strange and then the local cricket team turned up as we were leaving to a huge buffet including roast potatoes so it wasn't as if the kitchen had run out. Would not return here for food.

Rooms are nicely decorated, unfortunately no wifi in rooms (bar did have it) and neither room had a remote that operated TV. Pizza’s were great, felt a bit overcharged for the wine but think this may have been a mistake.

The room was very cold when we arrived. We were already really cold and it took a long time to get the room warm. There was a kettle and 2 green teabags and some decaffeinated coffee and 2 tiny portions of milk. No normal tea or coffee. There was no shampoo/ shower wash in the bathroom. There is no hairdryer. On the plus side, the room is a nice size and it is clean. The view is very good. This morning we went to speak to the person running the place but could only find a cleaner who said she didn’t speak English. Would not stay here again

POOR STANDARDS, QUALITY OF FOODS & SERVICE. ....on all key areas of the restaurant. Dirty, unkempt and disgusting WCs, especially the disabled and men's areas. Poor, unattentive, lack if attention to details relating to our request...example: no onion please...one of us is allergic. Yet...the waitress brought a substandard salad dish with onions included! Poor exercise of customer relations skills. No hello, thank you, was everything OK? We asked for 2 substandard meals to be taken away. Those and 2 drinks were taken off the final bill.

We came here in 2017 and it was that good that we drove 40 minutes to visit again this year, bypassing much closer places to eat. We remembered the view from the outside seating area and that the food was good. Well, the food kind of was good. The children had a southern fried chicken burger and chips. My husband and I had a roast dinner. Both were good, except my son who agreed to try salad for the first time in his life (a momentous occasion) (he's 17) found a spider wrapped around one of the salad leaves. It was still alive. We told the waitress but we didn't ask for money back or anything - I wanted to see what they were going to say and how they would deal with it. First they tried blaming the fact that the food was brought to us outside - but that simply wasn't the cause. We got up the minute our food arrived and went indoors as it was clear the wasps weren't going to leave us alone. We literally got up immediately and followed the waitress back indoors. This spider was deep within the salad pile. The waitress called a more senior person who then said that in the conservatory looking part of their seating area they'd had a lot of problems with spiders and there was nothing they could do about it. She indicated upwards and we all looked up at the beams. She explained that the salad was well washed and there was no way the spider could have survived. With that, she walked away. My son felt unwell. Not because there was anything wrong with his burger I don't think but he was so close to putting a spider in his mouth. Needless to say he has gone back to totally refusing to even consider eating salad. I was really disappointed. True, I didn't ask for the money back but I imagined they'd either offer a refund for my son's meal or at least offer a free pudding to compensate. But she just walked off. Outside was not as good as we remembered it. It seemed run down. Umbrellas were strewn over the lawn. In the ladies toilets the hand soap pump wasn't working and the freestanding soap pump they'd supplied was finished. In a food establishment that's not really acceptable. We ate, we left feeling really down. I really wish they'd have smiled and done something nice. I don't care about the money so much but my son looked really shaken and started looking out for spiders in other food throughout our holiday. And flatly refused to try salad again. I really wanted the kids to have had a good evening. A smile and a free dessert would have made all the difference. We won't be coming back.

I hate to leave bad reviews but sometimes it can offer management feedback to rectify certain areas. We had booked prior and our table was ready however when 15 of us arrived it was a good 5/10 minutes stood at the bar (3 staff) before we were even acknowledged!!Waitresses I will say were very friendly polite and professional. 10 of our party had chosen the carvery. Which was priced accordingly and worth it’s price but very very bland????When the other 5 dinners turned up it was infact only 4 as 1 had been forgotten!!! They had to wait another 10 minutes by then everyone had finished. Apologies were made and the meal wasn’t charged. The main menu meals were just average, but the worst of all was the cremated mushrooms in the bowl of sweet potato fries!!!! I pointed out to the waitress that perhaps the chef may consider changing his oil???? I’m afraid we would probably not return

This place looked pretty highly rated but boy were we disappointed. After ordering at the bar, we tried to find a seat that wasn’t covered in sticky-looking-stains but alas we could not. When our food arrived it was clear the vegetables had come out of a packet and appeared microwaved and the lamb was just an inedible pile of burnt gristle. A pile of lumpy cold mash potato (allegedly) accompanied it. I wish I’d taken a picture, but before we could complain dozens of pensioners descended from a coach en mass and the place was suddenly heaving. Perhaps they were as hungry and ill-informed as we were? Perhaps it reminds them of the war? We left feeling rather sick and won’t be returning. It looks like there’s a nice place down the road - keep on walking.

I've been to this pub quite a few times as it is close to my elderly parents. The food is not bad and is reasonably priced, but the service is often slow. The pub needs a good clean, a complete redecoration and new carpets; the loos are outdated and not particularly clean. Nevertheless, because my parents like it, I would probably have continued to eat there a couple of times a year. However, after my experience today, I will never go there again. I was at the pub for lunch with 18 family members. As I walked to the ladies, I trod in a huge pile of dog faeces that was on the carpet INSIDE the pub. I had to try and wash my shoe in the ladies loo, while another member of my party asked a member of staff to clean up the carpet. They did do so, but without wearing gloves. I also asked the waitress to clean under my seat at the table, as we could all smell the faeces - she also did this with no gloves on and she was the person who then served our food. If I hadn't been with a large family party, I would have left there and then. I did receive an apology from the waitress when I told her what had happened, but that was it - no-one came to the table to see if I was ok, no-one offered me a free drink, and I had to eat my meal with the smell lurking. I know the pub is dog friendly, but dogs should not be allowed where there is food being prepared and served, and if an accident like this occurs, it should be immediately cleared up. I question the pub's hygiene practices and cleaning regime

A great location and superb views from the beer garden but difficult to get away from the tired look of the building, the mish mash of the construction (the conservatory is an abomination), the general lack of attention of detail (just needs keeping tidy). Internally the beers are kept poorly and it's dark and old fashioned. No idea on the quality of food. The only thing that will keep you in is the stickiness of the carpet....hopefully someone will take the time to deliver against the promise of the place. It could be amazing!

We had been warned by solicitous friends that this Inn was a little shabby, so our expectations were set on the low side. Right from the start of our visit we were charmed by the friendliness of the staff, and we simply loved our comfortable, modern bedroom, though the suite "Shere Khan" was not necessarily the Kipling character we would have chosen! A very good night's sleep, and then a great view out of the windows over the valley towards Batemans - or it would have been were it not for the heavy mist! Breakfast left us stunned, enormous portions well-presented (e.g. 6 pain au chocolats between two of us....), we ate only a fraction of what was on offer, and yet knew we had eaten too much! We enjoyed the 'shabby' area, which was entirely due to its antiquity - ot would have looked awful if it had been 'smartened up'. A great blend of ancient and modern, and so friendly and generous with it.

I have previously had a terrible meal at The Bear. I reluctantly returned in January 2017. The food on this visit was excellent as was the service. The steak pie was magnificent and I am glad we gave The Bear another visit.

We met up with friends post Christmas to catch up and decided because there were a few of us the Bear would be a good place to meet and because one of the party had explained how good the carvery was on a Sunday. Once everyone arrived we decided that we wanted to sit in the restaurant just behind the fish tank. We then sat down and having arrived a bit early we had had an opportunity to select something on the menu. I have to staff were polite but we had to wait an age for someone to come to the table, we then waited a while for our food. During this time we thought we'd have more drinks, again waited for someone to come to the table even though we could see the waitress behind the bar eating, in the end one of us went to the bar to order the drinks as we were fed up trying to get her attention and it did not improve either. It was such a shame as the food was quite good but they certainly need to train the staff in better customer service. It can make all the difference whether you will return or recommend to friends.

Burwash is a lovely place - great views and lovely walks all around. We stopped here for lunch after a long walk. Ample space in this pub but doesnt feel very homely - welcome fire burning on a really cold day and 3 other tables eating so we risked it. Not much attention went in to making this dish- suspect this is all frozen from Brake Brothers and just heated up, the salad had given up on life as well- they certainly haven't sourced from local suppliers or even from the butchers over the road. I had to leave it after the final straw of finding a hair in the food. Will stick to the Rose and Crown if I am passing through again.

Couldn't really ask more of a pub on a Saturday afternoon, good food and drink, friendly staff and locals, nice atmosphere, roaring fire, pool table, darts, lovely old building, plenty of parking and good location with stunning views out the back. Will definitely be going back.

A traditional pub in the main street of Burwash. Plenty of parking spaces and looked as if they had nice accomodation rooms at the rear of the premises which over looked the rolling countryside. My wife had mussels one lunch time and I had a hot sandwich of Brie and Bacon. Both delicious. Great beers on tap. All from local breweries and very well presented. A very large fireplace with roaring fire in the main bar area. Always welcoming and friendly staff.

Just a brief stop for a beer and a snack. This is not a swish establishment but, where the importance lies, namely on the plate, in the glass and service, there is no better value within many miles. I know because I live in Wealden and have visited most of the similar places in recent times seeking the same requirement..

Awful. We are mid 30's and new to the area, first time here and we walked in and walked out.Rough looking men and a guy shouting ' oi get ere' at his dog making a scene as we walked in, dog poo in the garden (we had dogs with us) so clearly irresponsible people. What a shame and disappointment to a lovely village and lovely views.

Eaten here twice recently, the first time, on a saturday and the food was really good. Came again on a sunday, and the food wasn't as good. Almost felt like the food had been pre-cooked and had been warmed up before being served. So not sure if the main chef has Sundays off or something. Anyway on the whole the food is generally pretty good and would come back if passing. But wouldn't make a special trip. The staff are all very friendly and a good place to come if you want to catch a football or rugby match on the big screen round the other side of the bar

A group of 25 disabled customers pre booked lunch for midday on Tuesday 12th April. We were allocated tables in the conservatory. We were met with an offensive smell and was later identified as dog poo adjacent to our table. A male attended and cleared the area but the atrocious smell was left lingering throughout the meal. We were forced to eat in the area and we weren't offered alternative seating. Food was extremely disappointing, over cooked and of poor quality. Service was non existent, no satisfaction checks throughout the meal; in fact we all considered ourselves to have been viewed as total nuisance to all of the staff involved. No apologies, no gestures of good will. Never again.

I came here with a friend for lunch midweek, it was quiet but there were a few other people there. I had the Bear Burger (it is beef, not bear meat!) with chips and side salad. It was very tasty and arrived fairly quickly after ordering. My friend had a bacon, chicken and mayo wrap which he said was good as well.I think when I come to visit the area again we will more than likely return.

Stopped on spec for lunch with friends. Good menu of good wholesome pub food. venison pie was excellent. Large portion served with vegetables and a choice of roast, sautee or mashed potatoes. Great value and very tasty. Certainly looked home cooked and tasted superb. My wife had the lamb which she considered exceptionally good. Again a generous portion with lots of veg.Sticky toffee pudding for sweet. The test of any restaurant as far as I am concerned. Possibly the best ever. Certainly in a long while anyway. Lunch for four with a bottle of wine and drinks gave change from £80.00Take a break. Visit Batemans the local NT former home of Rudyard Kipling, and then have lunch. You are unlikely to be disappointed.

Whenever I can on a Tuesday or Thursday morning I go to the Bear to meet up with the Burwash Coffee Pot Mafia who are a wild bunch of guys and gals growing old disgracefully. Always a warm welcome from the staff with piping hot cofee flowing and if you want to indulge a large slice of cake. Kevin and his staff deserve big medals for putting up with this motley crew. We like the Bear.

Visited last evening, it's been a while since we last went. Previously we had been disappointed by the food and the service but not last night. I had the game pie which was fantastic and right up my street. My wife and our friends were also very happy with their meals. The young waitress was very good and the overall cost very reasonable. They also had a lovely log fire, just right for a cold evening. Will definitely go back.

Garlic king prawns were lovely, Lasagna was a little dry but still tasty, burger and chips that my friend had looked good as did the sticky toffee pudding. We visited this pub on a rainy autumn afternoon and were happy with both the ambiance AND the food. The fish and chips came out of the kitchen piping hot, and we took our time over our lunch in front of the huge fireplace, which had hooks set in the stone for wet coats to dry -- a homey touch. Glad we stopped here, and we look forward to stopping again when we return to the area.

I have visited this pub many times over the years as i have friends and family who live in and around the village. Unfortunately the pub and staff have changed and not for the better! The majority of the staff are now very young and in my opinion inexperienced. They are more interested in chatting with there friends than providing a service to the customers the menues never seem to change. There is also a big screen that was put up i thought for sports but seems to be used as a day to day TV for the youth group who gather in there to lay around on the furniture like they are at home! This doesn't make it very welcoming for family's who just want a quiet pub meal! It's a shame to see what was such a nice place deteriate like this!

Were visiting Rye after spending a couple of days in Hastings. Found Globe Inn Marsh when searching for gluten free menus. Really varied menu and the food was absolutely delicious. Our waitress was really knowledgeable about gluten free options and was very friendly. The decor was really quirky and it was really relaxing inside. It is clearly a very popular restaurant, such a shame we live so far away!

Very disappointed with the food and the service. Worst moules marinieres I ever had with no cream garlic sauce either. We wanted to buy a bottle of wine and were told that it was not possible and that the wine had to be bought in a carafe! Never heard his before!? Service was really bad, they really need to train the staff. The bill was £150 for 2 really not worth it. Will not visit again sadly.
