Friendly but slow service, and not good value. I ordered the Cottage breakfast. When it arrived, after nearly 20 minutes it consisted of two small overcooked rashers, a sausage which was small enough to qualify as a half sausage, a hash brown of minuscule proportions, one half tomato, a small fried egg and a large pot of baked beans. (I declined the mushrooms) There were two generous slices of toast accompanied by a single pat of butter each, just enough to smear most of the surface, but not enough to make you feel that you had had any butter. For this I was charged 11 pounds 50, with 3.30 for a small Americano on top. It was edible but not delicious. Basically it was a disappointment. If you are going to offer breakfast try and inject some pizazz into it and remember that if you have someone ordering breakfast it usually means they are hungry and don't want to wait 20 minutes to be served. The place was nowhere full so what the wait would have been like with multiple orders who knows. Won't be returning.

Beware when ordering food from this shop. Call them to check if item available if you don't want to lose your money. Ordered from just eat a week ago the items I ordered were unavailable. The staff cancelled my order on the phone with me. My order was placed via just eat and all now 11 days after I'm still waiting for my refund. Just eat customer service is invisible and can't be contacted via phone calls. Very bad customer service. Next time there an option to mark sold out item or unavailable items.

I used to go here quite often but stopped going when the proprietor changed. It looks like little has changed, same menu at higher prices, same beers. We ordered the steak and mushroom pie. The pastry wasn't quite how I remembered it but it was fine. Unfortunately it was only lukewarm and my wife didn't like the fact they had put gravy on it. If they served that separately it would be better. I chose Surrey Hills Shere Drop which is potentially an excellent beer, but here it was mediocre. The prices now seem over the top. Just along the road there's another pub that is much classier and has lower prices! It also turned out that they add a service charge here although I didn't see that on the menu and when I challenged it they didn't claim it was there. They hadn't even produced a bill listing it. They did refund it but that doesn't make it legal. It's not as if you get restaurant service anyway. To order you have to stand at the bar waiting for them to deign to come out from the back and you carry your drinks to the table. They do bring your food to the table but that's about it. One to avoid I'm afraid.

ordered a kung po chicken , egg fried rice and salt and chilli pepper chicken. i believe it took less than 15 minutes for the whole order to be prepared. food tasted really good and quite worth for its price (20£) as I’ve got half left over and im quite a big eater. The kung po chicken doesn't really taste like the authentic ones I’ve had and leans towards the sweet and sour side but it still tastes good nonetheless. Will definitely be back (a bag of prawn crackers was also given)

Tried to stop here for a coffee and snack with my dad, who has coeliac disease and requires strictly gluten-free food. Unfortunately, their “low gluten” muffins were not suitable. The staff member kindly explained that while the muffins are made with gluten-free ingredients, they’re baked in the same area as regular products, so there’s a risk of cross-contamination. For someone with coeliac or a gluten allergy, “low gluten” simply isn’t safe—it’s either gluten-free or it’s not. Having something that looks like a safe option but isn’t actually safe is more frustrating than having no option at all. A better solution might be to offer pre-packaged gluten-free items that are prepared off-site, or to invest in a small separate oven to avoid cross-contamination. Until then, this isn’t a coeliac-friendly stop, which is disappointing in 2025.

Wow. The best pizza I have ever had combined with the best staff, I cannot fault this place! My slightly moody chihuahua was so happy I had to literally drag her out to go home, we came from London to see my daughter who’s at uni in Guildford and I would travel here just for the service and amazing pizza. We will be back and thank you all for such a great Mother’s Day meal xxx

Visited for their lunchtime Thai menu which seems to be a separate business operating in the pub. The landlord can seem a bit dour but he's OK and he keeps his excellent Surrey Hills beers in good condition. A short lunch menu offers really nice food at excellent prices with friendly service. They also do some standard pub fare for those who prefer it. Evening is à la carte at higher prices but that's to be expected.

Lived in Felixstowe & Woodbridge back in the 80's, fresh fish from the sea was everywhere. Returned to England many times over the years and now it's all various forms of frozen Fish, frozen Chips, and fake Malt Vinegar. There should be a law! I found only one proper fresh Fish & Chips in Bristol back 20 years ago. The White House in Gilford is now my second. Deep fried fresh Haddock, fresh Chips, real Malt Vinegar, and a fresh Director's Bitter. Fresh, Fresh, Fresh! A+
