Service is slow, food is adequate but massively overpriced, and worst of all the whole place, and I mean the WHOLE place stank of public toilets. Really really stank, we sat as far from the toilets as possible but it was still so unbearable we had to leave after one rushed drink, that we had to drink between covering our faces. So so bad.

Pub smells of fish, great if you like fish. I ordered a pint of London Pride paid for the pint then was told Pride was off. So I said I’d take Oliver’s Island instead. The manager then charged me an extra 10p for the Oliver’s. Unbelievable! I asked why are you charging me 10p for a beer you can’t serve me 🤦🏻. Read the room.

Ordered two beef roasts. Beef not edible, my mum ate none as she couldn’t even slice it. I persevered but didn’t enjoy. Potatoes I expect to be crispy but they weren’t at all. The only decent thing was the Yorkshire pudding which took up half the plate. Basically £50 for two roasts that neither of us enjoyed. No discount after I told waiter, as he had said he’d come to ask how things were. I had politely said ok when he came to ask how things were, as I always do when I don’t really think much of the food because I want to get out as soon as possible. My mum is deaf and I should have asked her too when the waiter asked as I didn’t realise she wasn’t eating any of her beef. Will not eat here again. They don’t seem to care if you enjoy the food or not. They must rely simply on the fact they are in a prime spot.

Prime location, great atmosphere, and the absolute best haddock and chips I’ve been served in my life (and I’ve had a fair few). Food is clearly fresh, sauces made in house, perfect batter to fish ratio, absolutely flawless. There is also a noticeably strong selection on the food menu for vegetarian and vegan customers, which is still quite rare for a local pub. Service was quick and friendly, food was phenomenal, great selection on draught. Cleanliness was also noticeably good. I genuinely can’t fault this place. An easy 10/10 venue!

Nice location by a bridge by a waterway. Garden had some picnic bench tables. Food was 4 stars. Only had some sandwhich/panini style lunch between the two of us, but the chips I had were really really salty, and service was a bit slow but friendly... but they were busy. I would give 4.5 stars each, but wasn't quite deserving of 5 stars. Still, was nice enough break from wandering around the town looking at historical buildings.

In all the years going to Guildford, I had never crossed the bridge, until today. Found The White House pub popped in for lunch and was greeted with a warm welcome (whom I found out later was one of the managers). I’m very fond of Mediterranean food and opted for the Mediterranean orzo salad, to which I was very impressed. No oily after taste. My husband as usual ordered the BLT and triple cooked chips, which he also was very impressed with. The staff were very polite and very friendly. The atmosphere of the pub was lovely and being so close to the river Wey was amazing. They also have a little private function room, which looked really cosy and will keep in mind for a party. We definitely will go back again and would really recommend.

The white house is a great pub in a lovely location. however the food offering is lacking. we went for a friends birthday at the weekend. the location was lively but not too crowded. staff were very nice, but some service was confused with different staff taking our orders and telling us different things. the food lets the white house down. the portions are mean for the price. there was only one vegan option which came with a warning the buns may contain dairy. and no vegan option for dessert. this seems very behind the times for 2024 when most places offer at least a couple of vegan dishes or meals that can be adapted for vegans. this should be noted if any groups have a vegan friend or family member. i will be back for a drink, but i will eat before i return.

First visit to the pub (& area). Lovely setting by the canal. Staff friendly & polite and coped fairly well with large number of customers. We ordered haddock & the spatchcock chicken. Haddock was huge and good value for money. However, the spatchcock chicken was possibly the worst we’d ever had. Barely more than three small mouthfuls of meat on it. This with a tiny bit of salad that had a chilli dressing on it so hot, it burnt lips and mouth. In top of that, it was £5 for a side of chips. Absolutely not value for money. Very disappointed.

The pub is in a lovely location by the water. We visited with friends and had a nice table in the conservatory area. The food wait was a little bit slow but and we were getting hungry but some of the group had ordered starters which made the wait seem longer. I ordered the plant based burger which was a bit disappointing for the price. The burger and chips were tasty but it just looked very small on the plate like a child's portion. It would have benefited from some salad and onion rings. I asked for barbecue sauce but there wasn't any so I settled for brown sauce which didn't arrive. I'd visit again for drinks but I think there needs to be more enticing vegan options on the menu.

I have to say I’m so glad I stumbled across this beautiful place way back in march 2022. I come up from Thanet to see my partner that was working away in Guildford and came here for lunch to wait for him to finish work. So as I was up here again on a course I decided to walk along the canal back to this little Gem! It was a beautiful warm evening and I sat outside while I ate. Food and wine were beautiful! I must say the butter milk prawn starter was out of this world!! And the setting and ambience was chilled and friendly ( being a dog person I was so happy to be able to make friends with a couple of Labradors sat next to me) The staff were very attentive and polite and made sure I was ok on a few occasions. Any time I’m back in Guildford I will 100% be back at The White House! Thank you so much.

Pub is nice and the service is good, albeit a little slow, but the roast was objectively bad, especially considering the inflated prices you pay for it. My roast pork was dry, lukewarm, and the advertised crackling was just chewy fat which was unpleasant to eat. Also the veg portion was on the stingy side and the roast potatoes were verging on raw. I'd probably pop in for a pint in future, but given the choice it's highly unlikely I'd eat here again.

Two visits in the last four days, both enjoyable. The first day the Oliver's Island was a bit flat but Grand Slam was really nice and impressive for such a weak beer. Rather expensive though, the same price as ESB which is much stronger. On the second visit the Grand Slam was finished but the Oliver's Island was in good condition. ESB reported to be good both times. Food was quite good. The pork curry didn't have a lot of sauce and came with rice mixed, I think, with a cauliflower couscous that made it all a bit dry. Haddock was excellent if expensive, but one of my friends had a children's portion which was nearly as big and about half the price! Service friendly and very good. Pleasant ambience. I have not liked this place on previous visits but it now seems well run and I shall be happy to return.

Overall not a bad little pub. Nice location next to the river, annoyingly the car park there is an odd set up basically meaning we can’t park in it! There is another further up the road however. We had a selection of drinks serving the nice ladies behind the bar. My mate ordered a tuna sandwich which he said was nice and I had a burger, brought out by a guy. I’ll be honest, I didn’t have much hope for the burger 🍔 upon arrival, but let me tell you it tasted 10x better than it looked!! A nice juicy patty with the melted cheese was very tasty (I requested no tomato) The Chips were nice although a few more would make it seem a bit better value. We went on a late weds morning in early January, it was dead. A few more turned up as lunch time came around but generally very quiet. Toilets upstairs were ok.

The staff were lovely. Wish I could say the same for the menu. Reading it was lacklustre. It could only have been thought up by an accountant with anosmia. The salad/sharer section only had sharer items. A bit of vegetable in one sharer platter does not a salad make. There wasn't a single one-person salad option. I had the aubergine tagine. The pearl couscous looked well with fresh herb and pomegranate. It tasted like it had been cooked in lemon juice. I like tartness in food but this was wincingly sour. The aubergine part didn't look or taste like a tagine. Everything was chopped up small and slapped on the plate like a barf. It had none of the normal North African spicing that you would expect and was as unappetising as it looked. I wish I'd thought to take a photo. This place is nice for sipping a drink in summer but don't bother eating there.

Firstly, I'd like to say that our server was very pleasant and competent. Unfortunately, this is the only positive thing I can say about our experience here. I ordered their "signature dish" - Buffalo sauce glazed roast half chicken with a mixed salad and house chips. Interestingly, there is a photo above of this dish where it looks as you might imagine it to be - pretty tasty looking. Alas, what I received was nothing like that picture. My chicken was smothered in sauce and sat on top of the chips rendering them a soggy mess - not a single chip was spared from this dousing. The so called Buffalo sauce had the characteristic vinegar and chill flavours but for some reason it was laced with sugar as well. It was cloying and horrible. The mixed salad wasn't spared from being drowned in bottled, cloying, sauce either, providing no relief - a heavy, creamy salad dressing, in this case. Honestly, this one of the worst plates of food I've ever been served in a bar or restaurant. I managed to eat about half of it, despite being hungry. Our server did ask how the food was and I politely told him how bad it was and exactly why. Neither of my companions enjoyed their food either and one also communicated this. He took it on board courteously but there was nothing taken off the bill (perhaps this was not in his gift). There was no way we were going to chance coffee, never mind dessert, so we paid the full bill and left. I'm still perplexed how any chef could serve up a plate of food like this. Avoid this pub for food.

I booked a table for 2 for a 2pm Sunday lunch following a shopping trip to Guildford. I have researched the best places for a Sunday lunch in Guildford before booing and the White House came up as one option. We had a table in the conservatory, overlooking the river. My wife ordered the Roast Chicken lunch and I had the Roast Beef, along with a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. The lunch was exceptional, one of our best ever. The roast potatoes were herby (Thyme?) and crisp, the Cauliflower cheese was delicious and VERY cheesy, and the accompanying buttered mixed green veg was also very good. My beef was tender and tasty but the star was my wife's Chicken, which was perfectly cooked and not at all dry and SO tasty, like the chickens we used to eat in the 1960s! Service was polite and rapid and all together, we really enjoyed the meal and will return to Guildford just to enjoy a repeat experience before Xmas. Compliments to the chef and serving staff!

Great location; very disappointed with the food. Had a lovely table outside by the navigation. Unfortunately, our Sunday roast lunches took about 45 mins to arrive. (When we'd chased it up, we were advised that the roasts were "made individually" and so took time. Uh-huh.) When my (20 quid) roast pork finally arrived, it was horrendous; tough, tasteless and drowned in gravy (probably for a reason), with a "crackling" that was inedible. The roast potatoes must have been sitting in the bain-marie for hours; dry and required a chain-saw to cut. The separate vegetables were limp and way overdone, though the sauce on the cauliflower was nice, however presumably sitting for some time, having had a skin on it. My wife enjoyed her roast beef, however, but had the same experience with the vegetables. It was straight out of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. I go to a restaurant to enjoy food cooked better than I could do, but that day I would have wiped the floor with the chef that produced that muck.

One of the best seabass I have had. An amazing mix of english dish with eastern spices. Great staff, great service, great atmosphere, great food, and very clean. Overall a great Pub! Plus the location is the icing on the cake. Highly recommend!

Highly recommend this place. Its in a scenic location with lots of parking. Staff were extremely friendly. Food was on point. Try the seabass with indian masala sauce 👍 The pub itself was really clean, and had a good atmosphere. Clearly attracting the right clientale. I will be visiting again as only popped into Guildford to see some friends.

A gentle, warm coffee shop with a relaxed upstairs where you can sit on a settee, r af a book or newspaper and enjoy the coffee and comestibles (gosh, there's a word from the past!). I thoroughly recommend it.
