Sadly we chose to go to the local pub for some lunch, 3 of my family chose the burgers and my daughter had the bangers and mash. Now I’m now one to complain but.. for a £16 chicken burger I’d expect something half decent. It was burnt and poor valve at best, I had to send it back. The £10 burgers looked like £1 burgers, a mc Donald’s cheese burger looked more appetising. The gravy that was made for the bangers and mash looked like brown jelly. The whole experience was a total disaster, if you’re going to charge proper money for food, please make sure you can cook a meal. It was disappointing and to be honest shocking if you think you should be serving that. The lady at the bar was very apologetic but I should have just asked for the money back. Sorry but definitely wouldn’t go there for food

Had a beautiful Sunday lunch here. Well proportioned, and plenty of it. The homemade Yorkshire was delicious. Can’t knock it for the money. Make sure you leave room for pudding, as they are just as delicious. I had Biscoff cheesecake which I found out was also homemade.

I’ve been wanting to try The Cricketers for some time, as now under new management, and it is walking distance from where we live, so ideal. Have been put off in the past due to some negative reviews. We booked for their Sunday roast with the family, and was pleasantly surprised, it was very tasty. The meat was tender. You had a choice of beef pork or lamb. Yorkshires were amazing. You were given plenty of meat potatoes, vegetables, lovely size Yorkshire which is home-made. The only thing for me was the vegetables were overcooked. Best of all also were the desserts which were all home-made, we had the apple crumble and custard and the cheesecake all very good. There was also chocolate brownie. We were slightly apprehensive beforeour meal arrived, but after speaking with the couple on the next table to us, our minds were put at rest, especially seeing their plates empty. Service was good, the meal was good value for money. Hopefully in time they will extend their menu on Sundays, as our son didn’t join us because he is not a great lover of roast and would have preferred something else. I’m all up for supporting our local trades and businesses, so we will definitely be going back.

This place was recommended to me who said the food is great? I went for Sunday lunch with 2 friends. 24/11.24 sadly I can’t say we had the best experience. We were shown to our table by a vey nice gentleman and the atmosphere was good. The waitress came and said which roast would you like? Who said I wanted a roast? We were not offered a menu? 2roast pork and a roast beef, the beef was chewy and and the pork not a lot better. The plate was cold therefore the food was warm at best and a lot of it was almost cold, the Yorkshire pudding was soggy and difficult to cut. All in all a very disappointing experience. Would have happily have spent more if the food had not been so poor

Lovely Sunday Roast here today. Two kids portions and two Adults. Everything really lovely. So often the potatoes and parsnips are under par with a pub roast. Not here. They were spot on, lovely and crispy and generous portions. Yorkshire puddings are home made, large and cooked very well. The Bar staff are great and the main thumbs up is the price. £65.00 for our meals and drinks which were 3 pints of diet pepsi and half a Guiness. Really good to know that you can still go out for Sunday dinner near Guildford for under £120 for a family of 4. Not so keen on the TV's showing sport however they are unobtrusive and quiet for those that want to stare at a TV over lunch. Not for us but that's just personal opinion. In summary a really lovely 1.5 hours here today and we'll be visiting you again. Thank you.

We came here for Sunday lunch with another couple. What an excellent choice - quite possibly the best we have had in the local area!!! Despite being short staffed, our roast beef x2 and lamb x2 arrived in good time. Portion sizes are hearty, with a good mix of vegetables on the side and a decent amount of tasty gravy too; mint sauce and horseradish were both provided on request (and again came in plentiful portions). The food was excellent across the board. We then mostly had apple crumble and custard for dessert. This was very obviously home-made and all the better for that, piping hot with a generous amount of custard on top unlike so many places you go to. If you like your Sunday pub roast to look and taste just like a nice one you could make at home, no frills just honest, plentiful good food in a friendly atmosphere, then the new management here have got it spot on. It certainly worked perfectly for us, and we will be coming back.

This is close to us and thought as under new management would try to support as need good pubs. There is no atmosphere and place feels drab to be honest but we stuck with it. Pint was appalling poured with a two inch head which was handed over. Was redone but bar lady did not know how and got help from Landlord. Had roast dinner but it was worse than school dinners. Meat was cheap and fatty, food all very basic. We left all uneaten and went elsewhere to get good food as not worth eating a bad meal. Shame as had high hopes but be amazed if survives.

Couldn’t do enough for us, really friendly, and just made it so pleasant! I’d never normally write a review after a bit of lunch but on this occasion, I had to! What attracted me initially is the fact it's local and has a reasonable price list. The fact it has a beautiful garden with things to keep young kids happy playing is just an added bonus. However, there were a few things missing from the menu. A couple of us ordered prawn sandwiches with chunky chips, but our only complaint was the bread didn't taste very fresh and was so thin. Some chunky bread would have been great. The kids burger didn't look great (very thin and possibly of frozen sort?), whereas the main burger (adults), looked incredible! Hard to say on atmos as there were very few people around. I guess that made it nicer in a way 😀. I would return, but not sure I'd order food atm

A week before Xmas I asked if they could possibly fit my family in for Xmas lunch (2adults 3kids) and they were stretched but agreed which was a huge relief for us! Well a couple of days later we added another adult and then another day later we asked to add another adult and her 2 kids, and they still accommodated us. 1 child is autistic and would only eat nuggets and chips… that was not a problem and I was recovering from surgery and could only eat soup/pursed food so I explained to them I wouldn’t be having the 5 courses and they were understanding, but not only that, the chef contacted me and asked if I would like a different soup making or could she do anything else to help as it was Xmas…. Well I said a turkey dinner puréed would be nice but I knew she would be busy so didn’t expect it. Well she did do it and it was amazing! And gave me a couple of extra portions to take home!! The day was lovely, the food was amazing, the staff were all really nice and helpful and chatty. We all had a good day after the few weeks before we were all worried about the day and not feeling festive but these guys saved my family and my sister and my friends families Xmas!!

Looking forward to a lunchtime beer on Christmas Eve only to be told that as they had not ordered beer in time there was no draught beer at all. They could only offer bottled beer. Went for lunch on a Saturday. Easy to get to from Guildford by car, good car park. Staff pleasant and helpful. Menu limited, and what we had was of only average quality. My chicken and leek pie was rather soggy and had little discernible meat. Chips good thick cut. Peas (thankfully) just peas - not minted or mushy! Sticky toffee pudding was pleasant and served with plenty of custard. However it was closer to streamed syrup pudding than sticky toffee.

Popped in for food! Was told we can only have the Sunday roast, and was given the menu. First thing we order was soup, out of stock (home made soup)? Out of stock? Next on the menu we read that a generous Sunday roast (meat of choice) as obviously they had no idea what they had left in stock would be accompanied by a Yorkshire pudding (delightful) honey glazed parsnips(didn’t arrive on the plate) and seasoned vegetables, I can only assume came direct from the microwave(had to season myslef)! To top it off they came in three separate pie roasting dishes which was only one short of the 4 overcooked aunty Bessie’s potatoes that arrived that looked like they’d been cooked in dirty oil or four times over! Added to this a family that booked 2 nights ago which also included the meat(so it was pre ordered) was told they have no pork left!! Never go there again! Stay clear

Waited for half hour before we were asked if we wanted food, even though we had booked a table for dinner. Staff behind the bar had no idea of our booking, said we could sit anywhere. The chef was standing at the bar just chatting with the bartender and other customers while we waited, this was at least 15 minutes he was by the bar. When the bartender/waiter did come to our table to ask if we still wanted food (we didn’t) we said no and he just walked off not caring why we no longer wanted to eat. There was no query as to why we didn’t, he didn’t seem to care. He seemed more concerned with having a good time with the chef, who was still at the bar when we left, than serving people who had booked a table to eat dinner. Won’t be returning here and will be telling family and friends of our experience.

Well they did a Reggae Day last weekend and it was fantastic! Music on all day, carrabiane food, rum punch and cocktails and was all decked out looking the part. Kids had the new playarea to play in which I never heard was there and it is really good for the kids. But the atmosphere was great and drinks and food was nice and good money for the good time we had. It felt like the summer is finally coming and was a good day for everyone. We left about 8 but it went on until midnight I think so they really did well. They say they are going to be doing more over the summer and are putting on other stuff too for kids and stuff. Lovely looking pub with a pretty garden i pass by so often but haven’t been in for several years. Family visiting last week and we had an issue with our water supply, so tea and a bite to eat was off the menu. Let’s go try the cricketers, and the seven of us headed straight there. It was very quiet, but it is expected on a dreary January afternoon, the 2nd official working day of a new long and difficult year, festivities are over and normal life resumes again. However, firstly it was lovely and warm and we were all very pleasantly surprised at how clean and fresh and welcoming it was. A recent revamp in whites and greys and a lovely wooden floor have done this place the justice it needed. The back garden was well maintained, very pruned and tidy. There has been a child play area landscaped and wooden play equipment erected which looks very new. I will be back in the kids holidays to make use of the good beer, free WiFi and child activities that look like I’d enjoy 20m alone?? The woman working was lovely, chatty, and efficient/attentive. The chef came out after our dinner and was very pleasant and asked if we enjoyed the food and so forth. We very much did enjoy our meals, but they were huge portions! So lunch Infact was dinner and we unfortunately couldn’t even get a couple of desserts to share! Coffees all round finishing a lovely, unexpected but very pleasant and enjoyable afternoon with family. We shall without a doubt be coming again, with friends, with family, whenever the opportunity is given if I have my way! Very much think you need to shout about your refit, garden, kid’s facilities because I think a lot of people would be more inclined to revisit, but what is unseen is unknown.

Came for quiet drink with my son after a walk today in a pub that I have been going to since I was very young., with my 13 year old. This was once a family pub, it is now a pub full of aggressive punters, who were swearing at volume, making threatening phone calls and letting their kids run riot. In any other pub I expect this would have been dealt with, but here there was one female member of staff to deal with this vile party (amongst others). - bear in mind this was 3.30pm a Friday afternoon. Being intimidated physically was the last straw and I ended my v expensive and frankly off tasting pint and left. Disgrace of a once half decent family pub. Oh, I am not sure the non drug policy is working either. AVOID.

We called back few days later and asked if we could stay, to be told by Kevin that is fine but he didn't appreciate me stealing his electricity and he would like some kind of contribution...now I thought spending 300 pounds was enough of a contribution on a night where there was no one there. Anyway I agreed, but I didn't pay any money for electric as we didn't use none, what we did do we spend there over £600 second time around. Luckily the unpleasant owner was away at the time and all the staff that was working on the night were voicing their opinions on Kevin, nothing nice to say... making his chef work while she had a massive bruise on her head with no time off. Ignoring the poor management, staff seemed to be OK until we called again and wanted to stay with them again and of course spend money at the pub, we were told no from Chucky, the one who was complaining so much about him to us seemed to told him that we called him a greedy sad man. Not too worry I have booked in up the road from cricketers and the pub owners are delighted to have us here with much more pleasant custom and food.

Came here ordered food, paid a lot of money for a full English that tasted like it came from Lidl. The waitress was rude and unhelpful, and kept tripping everywhere in her flip flops, Very dirty and very unwelcoming. Will never come back here.

We were at the cricketers to say a fond farewell to a much loved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. From my first visit to make arrangements to the moment we arrived from the cemetery to the time we left, Kevin, Jade and Chucky were extremely pleasant, highly professional and couldn't have been more helpful. The buffet was well presented and plentiful, but more importantly the garden area and indoor space were perfect for the occasion and easily accommodated the 70+ people. I cannot thank the staff enough for making the day the best it could be.

Had a lovely meal ordered from an excellent customer menu. The food was excellent but the service was fantastic. Our waitress, Effe, was knowledgable, very polite and engaging. She needs a special mention along with the superb Fish Pie and Scotch Egg. Fully recommended

We have been here several times. Each time for different events and with and without children. Drinks are quite expensive but other than that all staff are friendly and food is lovely. We have a great time here. One of the staff in particular Chucky is great fun and always accommodates to my fussy eating little sister. Which is very much appreciated.

Beautiful and inviting looking pub but thats about it, went in a few weeks ago for an early evening bite to eat, ordered a pint of Tribute which was flat with no head whatsoever, so settled for another ale which quite frankly was no different, a week later we thought we'd give it one more try, the ale was no different, The barman asked if we would be eating and I said well yes but not just yet, but within a few minutes I was asked the same question but again said not at the moment, then less than 2 minutes later asked again by a young lady in a dirty chef white cover by a dirty grey hoodie, to be honest it actually put us both off, they were trying to hard to get us to eat, we didn't feel welcome we actually felt in the way, we left with our really touching our drinks, it's such a shame as this is a beautiful pub, expensive drinks which would be such a problem if the ale was well kept but it really isn't, they had tv's but they were not on

Started coming in here earlier in the year and didn't realise it was such a decent little pub, Decent beers on, Fair priced, Really nice home cooked food too which is also a good price. Quite often go down now, always been made to feel welcome, and the garden is lovely in the sun! That Chucky too, is a right Babe got to love her always having a giggle, has kids following her around mesmerised, giving hugs to the miserable customers. True Beaut right there, she shouldn't be hidden out in the kitchen, she is the best host with the most (oi oi) that I've seen in a pub for donkeys years!

My dad was a regular here, and after suddenly loosing him earlier in the year, the main priority for his send off was a big gathering at his local, with everyone he knew and loved!! Because thats what he would have wanted, well we barely lifted a finger and didnt need too, Chucky took care off everything, and it was perfect. A buffet big enough for 5x the amount of guests, all his favourite foods, the fosters were flowing thick and fast in his honour, but although there was a very large gathering there were no long ques at the bar, the elder guests were all looked after and given the comfy sofas to rest in with endless teas and coffee next to them so they didnt have to struggle to get a drink or move around, the kids who attended (several young grandchildren) were all kept amused and busy at a difficult time by chucky too. She went above and beyond and smashed it.... Kev and Guy were great too! Thank you all so much

This place has turned itself around with the new management. Great vibe, friendly staff, live music and DJ's every week. Absolute sun-trap of a beer garden next to the river in the summer and a roaring fireplace in the winter. It's not my local but well worth the trip out of town.

They don’t take cash which is annoying. Space ok with a mixture of tables and chairs giving a nice traditional feel - but they don’t take cash! Fake bookshelves upstairs. Nice crockery. Coffee ok.

We arrived to the pub and went straight to the bar for some drinks. We were all asked for ID which of course we all provided. When the man asked for my boyfriend’s ID he asked for it and scanned it with the LED light which again is absolutely fine. He came back and then said he “doesn’t believe this ID is real” my boyfriend then explained he is 20 years of age and that is his full drivers licence. The boy behind the bar who had dark, short hair, wearing shorts and fairly tall, said “ I don’t care I am the manager and I’m not serving you and you need to leave” in a very aggressive manner. He then left and didn’t make an issue. Me and the rest of our friends then went out to finish our drinks in the outside area, and my boyfriend stood outside gate waiting for us. The same guy”the manager” came out and stormed up to my boyfriend who was again outside of the premises in a very intimidating way, threatening him with 10,000 fine. He then responded saying he can challenge it with the DVLA as it is a real licence, and the man said “im not waiting 2 years for you to have a pint”He wasn’t on the premises he was simply waiting for his friends to finish their drinks and was treated disrespectfully. We all left very quickly after that and will not be returning as we did not feel welcome at all. I understand the need to ask for ID. But when he is obviously not under 18, and making a huge deal because he was stressed, was very unprofessional.
