This place was recommended by a friend, and we had high expectations. All of these were met and exceeded. Lovely location - just outside the city centre but feels slightly more remote. It has a country pub feel to it. If we lived closer, we would definitely visit several times a week, if not more. The service was fantastic from everyone we encountered. Perfect customer service. All of us, the party of 6, had delicious meals, and very sizeable portions. The staff boxed up the leftovers and we had it the next day. One of the best pizzas I've ever had (if not, the best!) Definitely returning very soon.

Returned for a quick lunch. It was even better than we remembered. The two guys behind the bar were attentive, pleasant and efficient. The pizzas are delicious. We shared a large one with an excellent salad. The pizzas have a thin crispy base and excellent toppings.very reasonably priced as well .

Great pizzas. They're huge - be prepared to share. Get a starter pizza and then a large to share per 2 adults. I prefer the simpler ones - the ham and mushroom is divine - my wife prefers the Moroccan lamb. We took some American friends and they loved it. The manager/owner came out to say hello too, always a nice touch.

I am so impressed by this pub. I was looking for a venue for a small post-funeral gathering and had a total lack of response from other local venues. When I contacted Ye Olde Ship, Jeremy was fantastic and took so much trouble to respond. We had a lovely lunch. The staff were all very welcoming and supportive, the atmosphere was relaxing and authentic and the food was beautifully fresh, tasty and well-presented. I can't recommend the Inn highly enough. It's rare to find somewhere where so much attention is paid to pleasing the customer!

Have been visiting this pub for many years and still find it as warm and welcoming as the first day I set sail in this place.Very attentive staff, with an all hands on deck approach. One of the highlights is the 'Killer Crust', which is great value. Also credit to the crew in the Galley who produce as good as - if not better - quality pizzas than that you would find on the typical High Street.Even if I wasn't a regular visitor to this pub, I would still make a special effort to visit to make sure it stays afloat.Put simply, if this pub were a person, we would definitely have a great friendship.

Ye Olde Ship Inn has always been a great pub, but the new menu and new management has added a new lease of life to the pub. The staff now look happy to work here and are extremely attentive and happy to help. The only thing that could improve is perhaps a little more variety to the specials, though most people do come for the pizzas anyway. Overall this is a great pub with great atmosphere, food, and service.

We’ve been here for the odd drink but this time we went for lunch in a biggish mixed group. The inside of the pub has been tidied up but remains a very traditional venue. Vernacular tables in niches around the pub so not too embarrassed for others by rowdy children (we tried!). Very dog friendly. High spot is staff trying real hard, taking fussy orders at the table with aplomb.

This pub has served pizzas for as long as I can remember. The current owners have been there for just over a year. It was okay under the previous landlord. But it has really stepped up several gears recently in terms of food quality and friendliness of service. The owner is a pizza magician. He can turn relatively simple ingredients into mouth-watering pies. He also does more complicated stuff too. If your idea of a pizza has to be something that has a Neopolitan origin, then you might be disappointed by some of the offerings on the constantly changing menu. Hot dog or Xmas lunch pizzas make it sound like Pizza Hut. But it is a world away from that. Don’t forget that the owner is a pizza magician. So unappealing combinations become delightful and interesting under his influence.

Booked this 2 days before for a family Sunday lunch for 8 people. This was our first visit. With such short notice we had found that all of our usual lunch locations were booked already. This pub doesn’t do roasts, so I guess that’s why they could accommodate us. Most of us had pizzas and drank one of the real ales. The pizzas were very tasty (and huge) and the beer was very well kept. We had to wait a while, but it was very busy and they kept an eye on us to make sure we always had drinks. We all agreed that we would return here.

This is a lovely pub that one can often drive straight past and forget, tucked off a main road just next to College of Law. Don’t make that mistake! It’s a lovely, authentic pub without any of that “trying too hard” gastro-venue feel about it. Staff are always welcoming and attentive. It’s great just for a drink but the real piece de resistance is their pizza range. They are top class! Huge range of toppings and done water thin in a proper oven but very large! Only thing I’d gripe about is they don’t serve them on a platter large enough, so half of it hangs onto table which I didn’t like and caused a real mess. But that certainly won’t deter me calling yet again!

This restaurant specialises in pizza and has a proper pizza oven. Tried to order 'pizza marinara', the classic and most common pizza in Italy and was told 'we don't do that and don't know what it is. Explained that it is the tomato sauce with basil leaves and garlic but told 'no we don't do that' tried to order from the 'make your own' option but was told 'no we don't do that' decided to have just a coffee. My youngest daughter, who had invited us suggested I have a margherita pizza without the cheese and this appeared to be OK with the waitress. I requested extra toppings of garlic and basil leaves but was told again 'no we dont do that' I gave in and had the suggested margherita without the cheese which as expected was bland. Their first attempt had the cheese, waited some time and second attempt arrived, no cheese. Asked twice for a glass of water which did not arrive. Poor show all round.

Four of us had lunch at the pub, following the Tripadvisor reviews. Good choice. The place is great for a variety of home produced pizzas, as well as a small range of other meals. Three of us had straightforward pizzas - all beautifully done and with a wooden board and pizza slicer. I had a calzone - the spinach, olive, cheese veggie option. The very friendly waiter brought the pizzas and then my calzone, with an apology from the chef (Landlord) because it had collapsed. The chef had suggested I start on this while he made me another. I said it wasn’t necessary as a half-collapsed calzone would not taste any different from a fully-inflated one. And very nice it was too. But when we were paying, the waiter brought over the replacement with the chef’s compliments - above and beyond what was necessary or expected. But it was a delicious lunch treat today. Many thanks to all concerned and we will be back again.

I don't know why we don't come back more often, busyness of time makes us forget that taking a nice scenic walk down Portsmouth Road gets us to one of the most original places to eat out in Guildford, away from the usual, away from the pressure of work and in an atmosphere that is truly original when you don't want to have to drive there. I first visited Ye Olde Ship a few years ago for a quick drink so I was very surprised when I walked in a few weeks ago to find that the new owners had turned this pub into a warm welcoming little haven. I walked from town, down the River Wey, and then hopped over the bridge and up the road by St Catherine's Mount. A lovely walk - and was a lot closer to Guildford than I anticipated. I was greeted by the landlord Jeremy - the perfect host. He found me a lovely table by the fire. A glass of wine was in my hand before I knew it and I went with his recommended pizza from the oven. It was delicious. In fact - one of the best I have ever had. And I have eaten a lot of pizza! The staff are welcoming, attentive but not over the top. The pub was full of other people enjoying lunch or a late coffee. There was a lovely atmosphere. Plenty of walkers stopping by from the North Downs Way - dogs at their heels so I guess it is pretty dog friendly too. This pub has to be on your 'Good Pub' list. And it won't break the bank either.

Having been both an employee here and a customer, the pub is faultless. The food is superb and the owner Sharon is lovely. Sharon runs a tight ship and takes no nonsense. Very English, lovely pub.

We've been here twice now for pizza after a walk along the river. Always made to feel welcome, staff more then helpful and chatty. Served quickly, pizzas delicious, we have on both occasions been more then happy. Just a good old pub in Guildford!

Not a great experience. I didn't have the specialty pizza, so may have missed out. Small portion size, starters obviously from a freezer bag, overcooked vegetables with the main course. Expensive for what it was. I'll stop now.

Been going here for over 15 years and have previously given 5 stars. However, today was a poor experience. 5pm on a Saturday, there are only about 7 tables, however, a number of tables not cleared or cleaned. Took 30mins from ordering to getting food. Had to chase the children's food. When the food arrived, no cutlery so had to go back and ask for that. No salt and pepper or offer of mayo etc. Children's sausage was burnt, mushroom risotto had peas in it which wasn't advertised. Unfortunately it just felt like no one really cared. Even when mentioning to someone we hadnt got any cutlery, the response was 'someone else is getting that'

Staff need to be more in tune with their customers, we felt rushed and that makes you feel uneasy. When you spend over £80 per head, the customer is always first..

This was just really excellent, fresh, simple food. Two starters (aubergine patlican I think, and a simple feta salad, followed by a couple of lamb shish. Everything was delicious and meat was super tender. Highly recommended. Service was also just right.
