The Seahorse in Guildford

Been going here for over 15 years and have previously given 5 stars. However, today was a poor experience. 5pm on a Saturday, there are only about 7 tables, however, a number of tables not cleared or cleaned. Took 30mins from ordering to getting food. Had to chase the children's food. When the food arrived, no cutlery so had to go back and ask for that. No salt and pepper or offer of mayo etc. Children's sausage was burnt, mushroom risotto had peas in it which wasn't advertised. Unfortunately it just felt like no one really cared. Even when mentioning to someone we hadnt got any cutlery, the response was 'someone else is getting that'

Caroline was excellent - very friendly and knowledgeable. Food was exactly as expected for this area and price but when we said we had a theatre booked they pulled it out quickly. Will be back for a drink, we are sure!

My parents and I went there early Sunday evening and had the worst meal and service. The young barman showed us to a table in the side room as we had a dog. From the start he was abrupt in his manner. There was nothing left on the menu so very little to choose from. The starters were ok and the wine was good. The mains were awful. The chips and the burger were completely cold. We waited but no one came so I went up to the bar and they sent out more which were only warm. I’ve had better burgers from a burger van/ and they weren’t £16 !! The bill came and they were mildly apologetic. They had taken the chips off the bill . It was an incredibly disappointing evening

Although a lovely spacious restaurant, we ordered lunch and it was not well cooked (meat), the salad very mushy and a very strange taste to the fish. Also hairs in the meal! For the price we paid and no discount for the bad meal we certainly won't be eating here again!

The service on a Saturday night was great, very friendly staff and the food was amazing. We had the chicken and scallops to start with a steak for our main. Will be back!

The Mac and cheese tasted better out of a can at home.

Friendly staff and reasonable service. But very put off by strong, overwhelming and continuous smell of cheap air freshener throughout the whole place. And I’d be cautious if you think you are going to a gourmet pub!

I came to the Seahorse with my family on our trip to Guildford. The food was astounding as well as the service. My steak dinner paired with Archie's service made my night. 10/10 definitely will be recommending to my friends.

Fantastic Sunday roast. Lovely meat and trimmings. The restaurant has a good ambience, friendly staff, lovely food and nice wine! We were greeted immediately and taken to our table, served by a very attentive waiter, Archie, who provided service with a smile and some great menu recommendations. Highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding for desert! We are very excited to return soon!

Very nice pub but make sure you are coming here to eat since they seem to lack table space inside. If you are drinking and not eating you have to sit outside or in the bar area even if there is no one to be seen in the pub. Other than that the outside space was nice and had a nice atmosphere.

The staff ensure you have a quality and fitting experience whether as a family or a couple. Excellent service and food

My son booked a table on The Sunday evening on August Bank holiday. Most of the menu was unavailable so there was very limited choice with only chicken available (without the stuffing) for the Sunday roasts. Apart from fish & chips there were no fish dishes available. The actual service was good but the food was just OK. The one thing that the restaurant needs to address is the state of the paintwork, particularly on the entrance doors, doors to toilets etc.

Lovely meal for the first time here. Service was excellent, our server was very attentive and friendly. I don’t have a name but I know she is blonde and a Scorpio lol 😂 Food was great, the squid was beautifully cooked and the gochujang sauce that accompanied it was delicious. My main of lamb rump was cooked to my request, mash was yummy but I wasn’t expecting the grilled veg to be Mediterranean. Menu says grilled veg so I was expecting vegetables that paired with the lamb and red wine sauce more than Mediterranean veges, however they were still tasty and I ate it all! My friend’s pie was great but needs a gravy. Quite dry in our opinion but tasteful nonetheless. Crème brûlée was out of this world. Creamy… slight notes of white chocolate which wasn’t overpowering and the raspberry really balanced out the dish. The brûlée was perfect - just enough for a good crack but not too much that it over sweetens the dessert. One criticism though would be that we were left disappointed at the “rustic bread” to begin our meal with. We expected rustic bread… but was served 4 slices of toast. I imagine rustic bread to be a selection of bread with a nice rustic crust and fluffy dough on the inside that we could break and dip into the dips. Thin dry toast is what was served and it was a disappointment. Something I’d have for breakfast. Hopefully this feedback can inspire some real rustic bread to be brought to the table instead! All in all, we had a lovely meal so thank you!

We had amazing service from a lovely young lady called Orchid. Orchid could not have done any more for us if she tried - she really made our night. She was courteous, attentive, friendly and the service she provided was perfect. The food was also really nice and it came out promptly. The decor is really impressive, we had fresh flowers behind us and a lovely oil burner on the table. The menu had a wide variety of choice and the wine list was also very good. We will definitely be back. It was nice to have such a great experience.

I’ve been here a few times with my partner and loved it! The most recent time, I had to experience it as a gluten free person as I have learnt I am intolerant and while I didn’t have many options, The staff were more than happy to accommodate and I still loved the food I did have! I recommend the sides for starters as there aren’t many/any gf starters. Truffle chips and duck salad were great!

We visited this pub for Sunday lunch as a party of four, and we couldn't have been more pleased with our experience. The service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. Two of us enjoyed the roast beef, which was not only flavorful but also served in generous portions. Another had the vegetarian option, which was equally well-received. As for me, I started with the White Crab on sourdough, and it was simply delightful. My main course of King Prawns, Crab & Chorizo was absolutely delicious—bursting with flavor and a perfect touch of spiciness. I enjoyed it so much that I wiped the plate clean! Overall, it was a fantastic meal in a lovely setting, and we will definitely be returning.

Really enjoyable meal at the Seahorse. Service was good and we didn’t feel rushed. Josh looked after us for the evening and checked back on us regularly. Chicken and cheese pie was great and the fillet steak was tender and cooked perfectly and the peppercorns sauce was fab. Definitely be visiting again soon.

I had a splendid dinner this evening at the seahorse. I must say, the delicacies served were second to none, with consistent ambiance and gravitas when it came to the complex makeup of flavours. I devoured my meal in mere seconds. The service from Josh was exquisite, never leaving us lost or waiting once. I highly recommend. The barman also had a great name, haha. Will be returning soon.

Always a fabulous time at the Seahorse, both for a roast and for a meal from the main menu. The linguine and nut roast are our personal favourites. Lovely dog friendly area with stable type separations if you have a more reactive dog which is perfect. Always attentive and friendly service. We saw Josh today who was extremely accommodating even though the team were expecting a large private party in the afternoon. Can't wait to visit again soon!

Fantastic pub in the middle of nowhere. Stumbled upon this magical place. Josh the Bowman was so super friendly and able to pointers in the direction of alcohol beverage choice.

Good beers and surroundings. A bit dark in places due to poor internal lighting during daylight. Food reasonable.

Plenty of parking at the front,and more at the back.A Friendly welcome by all the staff. All very attentive and happy to help. It seemed really busy. We were seated and served quickly.The food was all served hot and very tasty. A lovely time from start to finish. Highly recommend

I haven't been to the Seahorse in years, and even then it was just for drinks so after a sunny afternoon on Saturday my partner and I were keen to take some board games and have some dinner there. The gent who greeted us was pretty blunt and seemed fed up, in no mood and said 'yeah sit anywhere'. We sat inside which was very quiet as the outdoor area looked (expectedly) very busy. It looks like it's had a refurb??? but the tables and seats were sticky/marked. We sat directly in front of the bar and ordered starters to share and burgers for mains. The squid tasted awful, like a deep fried pencil rubber, flat bread was ok. The wait for our mains was lengthy and my burger was the wrong one when it finally came out. The same guy who greeted us didn't apologise or acknowledge the error just did a 180 with the food in hand and said give us a couple more minutes so we waited again.... Once arrived, The Dirty Burger and the Cheese Burger were not good, the bacon in the dirty burger was just bacon rind and gooey. The beef tasted like something out of a freezer, it was dry, tasteless and a nasty colour, like the stuff you'd expect in school dinners. We needed napkins so my partner went to the bar and asked the gent for some napkins who responded by saying nothing just stared him down and placed them on the bar in front of him. Neither of us finished our meal we put our half-eaten plates on the empty table next to us and finished our game. Nobody came to clear up, nobody waited/checked on us again actually even though we were opposite the bar and opposite the staff for the whole time... EVEN when a lady came in to take a look around the venue and spilt her water (which was mopped up right next to us), nobody came to check on us or clear the half-eaten plates... in. an. empty. pub.... We got up, paid almost £70 for the pleasure (over the bar) and left. I appreciate, the pub was probably busy outside, I appreciate we sat in the bar and not in the restaurant but the food and the service was grim to be totally honest.

Food was okay, we went on a Sunday and had the roast, they had run out of the trio but still charged the same price and questioned if we wanted something else instead only when it arrived at the table. We had to ask for cutlery as it wasn’t on the table and the waitress only got this after we had all been given our meals. We had a random bit of spaghetti on my plate and half the skin of an onion on my partners, which the meal didn’t even include onion. I had to send my glass back as it was very dirty and had lip marks still on it from previous use. The table next to us had left their complete meals and left and the table was not cleared the whole time we were there. We did find this a little odd but as I had read the reviews before we booked here which were fairly positive, and so thought this was more that they had to leave in a rush than the food was bad…. Maybe not! All in all the meal was okay, but we won’t be going back.

Very nice food well presented friendly staff

Waited 10 minutes to be seated even though we booked, had to ask to be moved as they sat us right next to the toilets which stunk! Main course was lovely, pudding took 45 minutes to come out (had to chase up) and it was clearly waiting to be taken out of the kitchen for a while as the meant to be hot chocolate sauce was stone cold.

We had a lovely Father’s Day lunch, enjoyed some delicious food, friendly staff and good ambiance. Definitely recommend. Good service co suffering they were very short staffed.

Disappointed. I grew up in Guildford and have spent a lot of times in the seahorse in prior years and always think of it as a high spec place. The food was very expensive for the food we were given. Little or no choice for people with alternative foods. I went for the burger and asked if the bun was GF. They brought me out the burger without a bun and even though I was told there were chips with it nothing came out, so I had to ask. Nice member of staff, but in the end we asked for a discount as overall all our meals were below standard.
