Absolutely tremendous post-punk friendly boozer full of Gosforth locals, nice dogs and shabby chic furniture. The owner of the pub has a super idiosyncratic sense of humour and everything just... works. Great beers from their own Overkill brewery (on site) and usually a decent selection of guest beers. Cask tends to have a better selection, but it's really well done here. There is a beer garden and it's nicely done, but is basically in the car park at the back of the premises. Big burgers and nice plates of food available and there's a good selection of quizzes and events on all year round. Definitely my favourite pub in Gosforth and the service is always friendly. Definitely worth a visit and offers great value and crack. The atmosphere is always great in here. Strongly reccomend.

There are enough old favourites together with newer speciality dishes here to satisfy most connoisseurs of Indian cuisine. In this reviewer's experience, the uniformly high standard of food and pleasant surroundings make it one of the best subcontinental dining experiences in the city, offering both excellent value for money and a wider choice of dishes than some trendier establishments. Although the decor perhaps lacks a few authentic flourishes, this allows one to focus on what really matters and the courtesy of the staff can't be faulted.

I went to Costa in Gosforth Shopping Centre on Saturday 29th March with my two kids. What happened there was honestly one of the worst experiences I’ve had in public. My son, who’s autistic, started having a meltdown. He pushed my coffee off the table, started scratching me, biting me, throwing things. I tried calming him down, gave him my phone, nothing worked. So I took him outside for a bit to change the environment. I stayed near the entrance where I could still see my daughter through the glass eating her food. We were still inside the shopping centre, just outside Costa. After a while it got worse. I went back inside and told my daughter we needed to leave. I asked the staff if I could have a plastic cup for my coffee. The woman gave it to me. While I was trying to handle everything and hold my son, he kicked the empty cup off the counter. I apologised. I was clearly struggling. She just stood there. No one moved. I asked for a paper bag. She gave me one. I asked for another. She gave that too. Still no offer to help. No one said anything. My daughter had to help me pack the food. She’s nine. I was carrying my son while he was scratching me and biting me. I didn’t even realise I was bleeding until I got to the car. My hand was bleeding and no one in that place did anything to help. Nothing. There were at least two or three staff there. They saw everything. Not one of them moved. Not one person said “Do you need help?” or “Can I make you another coffee?” or “Can I pack that for you?” Nothing. Just cold. Just silence. People watched. Some acted like they couldn’t hear. Others just sat there staring. I cried in the car. Not because of my son. I’m used to managing his needs. I cried because of how I was treated. Or not treated. Just ignored. And yeah, it made me wonder. Is it because I’m Black? Is it because I’m African? Was that part of it? Because that’s how it felt. Like I wasn’t worth helping. Like I didn’t exist. I never go to this branch. I usually go to the one in Team Valley, Gateshead. The difference is massive. In Team Valley they actually help. They speak. They care. My son has never had a meltdown like that there. Maybe he senses the energy. Maybe they just act like human beings. The way I was treated in Gosforth was disgusting. Costa, this is not okay. You need to look at your staff. You need to train them better. Or just remind them how to be decent human beings.

The restaurant has a beautiful ambiance and well-thought-out design. We sat in the indoor terrace area, which was particularly lovely and added to the experience. Service started off efficiently — we were seated quickly and our order was taken without delay. However, within the first five minutes, three different waitresses approached our table to ask if we were ready to order. This came across as disorganised and could easily be improved with a system that assigns servers to specific tables or allows staff to track interactions, making service smoother and more professional. As an industry professional I would suggest: 1) An industry professional hostess/ host to train the younger less experienced staff. 2) One or two members of staff, dedicated to taking orders who can manage the flow between the kitchen and the tables, eliminating repetition and making sure not to overload the kitchen. The food itself was fantastic — a real credit to the kitchen team. Unfortunately, the front-of-house service didn’t live up to the same standard. We were left waiting to ask for basic items like side plates, cutlery, salt, pepper, chilli, and additional drinks. At no point did anyone check in to see how our food was, and once our plates were cleared, the waitress didn’t even make eye contact or ask if we wanted anything else. With more attentive service, we likely would have ordered more drinks and even additional food — something that benefits both the customer experience and the restaurant’s bottom line. In that sense, the team missed an opportunity to upsell and create a more polished, welcoming experience. The automatic 10% service charge also felt a bit cheeky given the quality of service, though we still paid it out of appreciation for the excellent work done by the kitchen.
