Went for Sunday lunch which was absolutely delicious. Beautiful beef with delicious veg, especially the leek gratin. We all had main and dessert so can’t comment on the starters. Definitely worth the money and only good manners prevented me from licking the plate. I’m not a wine drinker but my dining companions were happy with the wine and I’m always happy with G & T. Excellent service and lovely ambience. We will definitely be back.

Wonderful dinner with friends at Ophelia last night. It was Thursday steak & frites night; 3 of the party had the steak and I had the lemon sole - utterly delicious. I started with the red prawns and raspberries; one of the most fantastic dishes I have ever eaten. The boys had fresh oysters which they said were gorgeous. Desserts were divine - the choc mousse with cherries was delicious and the fennel panna cotta was beautiful. There wasn’t a scrap of food left on any of our plates! Service was excellent; attentive and friendly. Ophelia is a wonderful restaurant and I would highly recommend 👌

Just what a restaurant experience should be. Fine ingredients, expertly cooked and flavoursome throughout. New favourite restaurant….

We (a couple of couples) went for dinner at Ophelia last night. The staff were welcoming and professional. The wine list was extensive and the menu was small but selection adequate. The food was excellent both in presentation and taste. We went for the 3 courses at £45. The atmosphere was also lovely. They show how overpriced other restaurants in Newcastle are as Ophelia surpasses their food quality at a more reasonable price. This is the third time Ive been and they have not disappointed and maintained the standards each time. Thus I felt inclined to leave a review. We will certainly return.

This was one of the best meals we’ve eaten in a long long time , elements balanced and the most perfect execution of cooking . The red prawns with Raspberries and the pepper vinaigrette was a triumph . Mains perfection and good sized portions. Unobtrusive service and modest bill in ratio to the quality. The bar / stool area is popular.

We went for Sunday lunch and it was THE best we've eaten in a restaurant! Everything was perfect, hot and tasty. Wine was expensive but it definitely was excellent quality and worth it. We enjoyed the meal so much we've booked to go for steak on Thursday!

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary with a visit to Ophelia, and we both thoroughly enjoyed our evening. The food was excellent, delicious and unpretentious, and served by friendly and attentive staff. We were happy to pay a little more than we're used to for such a special meal in a lovely restaurant. We will be back!

Having been recommended Ophelia by a colleague for some time, I was not disappointed! A fantastic restaurant with classy, tasteful decor, paired with friendly professional service. The wine selection is extensive and boasts some high quality and affordable options alongside exceptional food. Both courses I had were outstanding. I would recommend Ophelia to anyone who enjoys great food and an elegant dining experience. I will be coming back as soon as I can!

First time visiting the restaurant, I have to say it was the nicest Sunday roast I've had at a restaurant, given I have gluten and dairy allergies it's not always easy to order foods, the restaurant were very accommodating and the food was fantastic, highly recommend this restaurant

Went for Sunday Lunch and we absolutely loved it . Had a drink at the bar before the meal which had a great vibe and the food smelt amazing. The kitchen is open so you can see all the work going on . My husband had the soup with sourdough and I had pate with toasted brioche . They were excellent and very tasty. We both had the roast beef which was delicious as so tender . It was served with mash , roast potatoes, roasted carrot , Yorkshire’s, greens and leeks in a mild creamy cheese sauce with a crumbed topping. We had our own pot of gravy too . Everything was the best I’ve tasted in a long time . Too full for desert so we’ll have to go back . Service was excellent, efficient and friendly . Couldn’t fault anything.

Delicious food, ambiance & wine list. The Veal & Dauphinoise was a particular highlight for garlickly French, calorific deliciousness. However shining brightest of all were the super friendly staff who really made our evening. A new gem on the Newcastle scene: long may it last & thrive.

We'd been to the Patricia a few times, this feels more French. My wife said her fish was a little overcooked, but everything I ordered was wonderful. The service was friendly if mildly chaotic (the restaurant was not full), but overall I was very happy.

We were excited to go here after letting all the hype calm down. It was nice to have a drink at the bar, but the food was average and eye wateringly expensive for what it was; my main was a small serving of lamb shoulder and potatoes with maybe one Swiss chard leaf running through, which cost £33. Definitely a one off place, not somewhere to visit over and over.

This restaurant is one of thee best establishments in all of the northeast, that is if you are talented enough to spot and taste quality food. The halibut is amazing and priced very reasonably as you're getting the King of all fish in my opinion. Oh yes and I have to add the wines are excellent but even better is the Mandarin Napoleon liqueur ...an absolute mind blowing experience ...compliments to the chef, after all, they do the magic!

Excellent service and tasteful food. We had oysters plate as a starter following with lamp chops and sirloin steak. The oysters were fresh and juicy. The grilled chops & steak were perfect. Then we had Clafoutis and chocolate tart as desert. We loved Clafoutis very much. As the restaurant is not spacious, the seatings are bit crowded. We shall be back again soon.

Disappointed. We have enjoyed good meals at the Patricia and were keen to try this. Unfortunately it fell short of expectation. It did not feel like a treat, which at £80 per head, I would expect. Quality of food was mixed. I liked the pate and the bread & butter pudding but the halibut was rather overcooked. The menu choice was very limited, 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 puddings with 3 types of cheese! The ambiance was poor. Paper table cloth, cramped table and very noisy. Service was mediocre and lacking warmth and character (unlike Patricia). Overall, this WAS reminiscent of a Parisien bistro but with restaurant prices and an absence of flair for hospitality.

I would never normally write a negative review of a restaurant however this experience really spoilt what should have been a lovely celebration. We had been planning on spending an evening celebrating my husband’s 30th birthday. We actually cancelled another booking at another restaurant a couple of weeks before the date when we saw they were doing a special moules frites night (£18) on a Thursday. To book this you are required to state in the booking form that you are wanting this offer, which we did. Our table was booked for 7:30 and when we arrived to our table we were told there was only one portion of moules frites and given a ‘sorry’. Considering we only booked the restaurant for the moules frites we were incredibly disappointed and even more disappointed that there was no mention of an alternative offer even when we asked. We spoke to the staff again who reluctantly agreed to offer us the set menu offer (2 courses £29) that ended at 6:30 instead however we found this menu had nothing that really compared (pollock or chicken leg). We then spoke to the manger who said there was nothing more they could do. At this point we had decided to leave as we were so disappointed that this had not been the special evening we had planned. Finally, once we had decided to leave they offered us a choices of mains for £18 (not including steak) but by this point we felt so incredibly disappointed that we didn’t want to stay, especially given how reluctant the staff were to offer us an alternative.

lovely restaurant. food good and service good ....unfortunately i asked for my dish to be done well done . usual answer in a British French restaurant " will have to discuss with chef".....been visiting France for over 40 years married to a french man ....never in a French restaurant in France has that been the answer they just do it. also a menu for brandies etc would be good. when we asked the barman what the prices were he made me very stupid for daring to ask. When the bill came we did air our views.

Visited a couple of nights ago on a Friday evening with another couple. We live in Gosforth so always excited to try somewhere local. My husband and I went an hour before our table booking to have drinks at the bar. The bar staff were so good, really welcoming and friendly. I had a spicy marg which blew my.socks off, the barman was correct when he said they don't do things by halves. Cracking cocktails. When our friends arrived we moved to our table, lovely and intimate setting, nice open kitchen and had a nice atmosphere without feeling too loud. Anyway, onto the main bit, the food. Wow. We all had a mix of starters, gnocchi, lobster and pate all very good, the pate came with a piece of brioche as big as my head :-) nothing more annoying when you get a pate and a tiny bit of bread but no issues with that here. Mains, 3 of us had duck which melted in the mouth, the berries matched perfectly and the creamiest potato on the side. My husband didn't love his lamb, was just a little on the thick side so a bit chewy but this was the only negative. Desserts again great, the flourless chocolate cake with the olive oil particularly good. Service was excellent, not the cheapest but I am more than happy to pay for good quality food and I will happily return to Ophellia again in the future

First visit. Was made to feel embarrassed when handing in a small birthday cake to celebrate husband’s birthday Was told ‘we don't do things like that here’ Think this comment was pretentious Was then told (after discussion) we could light it but not eat it (we didn’t take it to eat) as that was a good compromise- husband kept begging me to ‘cancel the cake’ as he felt so out of place once he found out about the conversation Manager then ‘forgot’ to bring out cake and only realised when I asked for it back upon leaving after paying. Convenient forgetting?? Call me cynical Whole cake situation made me feel like an outcast from the very beginning - most unwelcome I’ve ever felt in a restaurant upon arriving Spoilt the birthday- shouldn’t have given the place a go To top it off bill was wrong- 3 TBH charged as full price items until corrected Asked for service charge to be refunded Unwelcoming and pretentious Would chose not to return and spend similar money elsewhere

We have visited this restaurant several times now after a recommendation from friends and it is rapidly becoming one of my favourite places to eat! From the welcome at the bar to the end of the evening the service is always friendly and attentive. Food is excellent - I am yet to try a dish I did not love! If they have pork on the menu I would highly recommend it. I have had pork served three different ways on our various visits and it is always absolutely incredible. Other highlights have been the steak tartare, the fillet steak and chips and the cheese - omg the cheese!!! Wine - the ever changing and extensive wine list can look a little intimidating, but I would say the best thing to do is just to ask Anna for a recommendation. She is so passionate and knowledgeable and she is happy to listen to what you're ordering, what you like and what you don't and find you the perfect bottle. Cocktails - I am not a big fan of sweet drinks and so I don't often drink cocktails, but they have a very well balanced cocktail menu here with plenty of less sweet cocktails to try. The spicy margarita is so good! Thank you to the whole team at Ophelia for another amazing meal. We are already booked for our next visit, so we will see you all soon.

All in all a beautiful dining experience. Came for Father's Day lunch and it's safe to say the father was very happy. Dining out in nice places with young kids can be really stressful, but the staff at Ophelia were super cool at handling families and large groups with babies. It may have been particularly busy with families due to the day in question, but nevertheless they all carried it off like kids pop in for French food and cocktails all the time. Brilliant experience for the family being able to see the food being made in the open kitchen, attentive and professional staff, lovely portion sizes and a menu that is great for adults and adventurous young diners. We tried some new things for starters and the kids really enjoyed the crab and the pate; not their usual bait so it was a bit of a risky choice but it paid off. We love a big roast dinner and the Ophelia kitchen team did an outstanding job. We had our mains by about 4.30pm and the beef was still pink, juicy and delicous. Yorkshire puds were top notch and they give you a huge jug of gravy so you never run out. Ample side portions of veggies included in your meal so none of those extra charges that you have to deal with in some restaurants. Will definitely be back without the kids for the 'poulet frites' night and some drinks made by the handsome chap behind the bar who really knows his stuff. Highly recommend going 'dealers choice' and let him make your night with his favourite cocktails.

Excellent and seemingly authentic French. Best dauphinoise I can remember after a dodgy looking but really nice baked Camembert. Bougignon was very good though bavette was a bit on the tough side. Noted it would. Ll have been better served on hot plates….personal preference
