Typically French. Food amazing. Good portions,authentic.

We had a very pleasant dinner here, last weekend. The food was very good, especially cheese and the gratin dauphinois potatoes. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the service was excellent. Highly recommended for a meal in Newcastle centre

They really really looked after us here. Proper Francais style. Take a look at the pictures, they speak for themselves. I didn’t have any wine coz have given up drinking but have included the menu for you all. Highly recommended for good affordable and tasty filling guilt free food.

Nice food and a good atmosphere, the servers were really friendly. I got the fish skewers and green beans, it was nice and light.

Second time that we've been and both the food and service is second to none , great atmosphere but the only minor quibble that we have is that they only serve a miniscule amount of bread with your starters and therefore you have to order and pay for more , come on people don't be so tight

Booked here after reading all the excellent reviews and we weren't disappointed. From start to finish we had a fabulous evening......the food was delicious and Luke was a friendly, knowledgeable, entertaining server!

A little slice of France in Newcastle! it is not often (as a Parisian) that a place nails French food! The French Quarter does! The food is simply delicious with a menu that will leave everyone satiated! The cheese was divine and their wine flights perfect for tasting and sharing! Highly highly recommend especially since the staff was so kind, helpful and polite! A great place altogether!

A little bit noisy for me, but happy people can sometimes speak too loudly! Didn't spoil the meal though.😁

I went here for Valentine’s Day and it was absolutely amazing! Staff were so friendly and the food was divine. My partner and I are both vegetarian and we felt like there were more than enough options for an enjoyable meal. Convenient location in central Newcastle if you fancy going for more drinks afterwards. Highly recommend!

The French Quarter exceeded expectations which were already high before we arrived. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and was able to offer recommendations when we asked for advice which was greatly appreciated. The food was so heavenly there was no time to capture pictures. The most exquisite dishes to recommend were the fig and goats cheese, and the poached pear. Unlike anything we have had before and have been thinking about it for a week straight since. Thank you very much for a wonderful evening.

Tapas style food didn't seem that appealing at first. However, it does mean that you do get to savour a number of dishes, this adds to the experience. The food was extremely tasty and well presented. With the high lights being potato gratan and goats cheese on figs with honey. The bill was reasonable. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. It's not the place to go if you want quantity over quality. But definitely somewhere to go if you want to experience and enjoy good food.

Absolutely wonderful. This was my first ever solo restaurant trip, after I lost my husband 4 months ago, so I was a little nervous. But the staff were so friendly and attentive and I didn't feel out of place on my own. I had a mixed meats and cheese board, as well as the discovery flight of red wines - it was all incredible and I can't wait to return.

Not the cheapest but food is good and service very attentive. We went during a promotional period so not the range of dishes available. Interesting venue in one of the railway arches. Good wine list including carafes of house wine. Worth searching this place out.

A warm, buzzy atmosphere on a cold Tuesday lunchtime. Service was friendly and excellent: showed thoughtfulness and care. Lovely variety of dishes, beautifully cooked.

One of the finest restaurants of Newcastle. French cheese charcuterie board was too good & the French fries . The French toast dessert was the best in the world . The wine collection is huge & we had ordered a bottle of red wine . The mains menu was good too . We had ordered a basa fillet & it was melting .

Such a lovely place. Really gets the atmosphere right with cool interior and great service. The food is great and there's a good selection for vegetarians and vegans alike. Would prefer to have a "pronunciation guide" for the dish names as they are in french and it would save me a bit of red-faced butchering of the language (don't worry, there's a description of what you're eating in English). Great selection of wines and other drinks and many bottles waiting to be taken home.

If there was an option I would also give 5 stars for value and 5 stars for the wine list. I have been in the hotel and wine trade around 40 years. Rarely do I give 5 stars across the board. A proper French bistro experience in the heart of Newcastle. Who would have thunk it? Already planning a return from Leeds just to dine here again. Well done all concerned 👏🍷👍🏻

Impeccible seevice, delicious and fresh food with tasty wine. Well worth the cost. The service was fantastic and we were given lots of advice around the menu when choosing. The cheese and meat platter was perfect for two and in fact I think our eyes were bigger than our bellies! Being a dessert fan, I wasn't disappointed and the creme anglais was delicious. A strong recommendation from us, especially if you have a taste for French cuisine. We will definitely be making a return visit!

Excellent eatery! Great food and warm friendly and highly efficient staff.

A very pleasant little taste of France in the North East of England. Immaculately kept, great use of space at ground floor and first floor levels of this arch. Seating arranged nicely, but not crammed in. Cheese and charcuterie boards consumed. Generous content for the price. Personally felt they padded the cheese board with too much Comte, but general quality levels were suitably high. Sausison with wild boar was a delight. Even the little details like a brilliant tang to the cornichons speaks to the quality of the place. Wine flights and specials both provided excellent value to try new and interesting things. The unique selling point is the sheer Frenchness of the place, with a vast amount of options for the wine and very knowledgeable, friendly staff, it's a winner if you like cheese and wine for sure.

What a fantastic place. Genuine taste of France 🇫🇷. We started with sharing charcuterie which was amazing. My friend was GF and they had so much choice and were really attentive to what she needed offering alternative bread but so we could still share the platter. We had steak Bavette, bouef borguinon, dauphinoise pots (which were so good), and various greens. All excellent, especially the steak. Sharing the plates was really nice. Excellent wine selection. £44 quid a head was a bargain. Too full for pudding but it looked great. Service was superb, friendly, knowledge and attentive. I can't wait to go back.

What an amazing find, was recommended by word of mouth and thankfully I listened. Friendly welcome from Eleanor who is a credit to the business and very knowledgable and approachable. There was no pretentiousness which you often find in so called posh places, family run and you can tell the difference from a chain restaurant. Loved the idea of French tapas small plates and I have to say it was a taste sensation, tried escargot for the first time which made me feel like I was doing a taste test on I’m a celebrity. Wouldn’t normally contemplate eating snails but gave it a go. Glad I did, they were great just don’t think about what they are! Definitely be back and price wise was fairly reasonable for what we got.

Visited with colleagues for an early dinner. First time dining here. The restaurant is charming & the staff very friendly & helpful. For 4 we ordered 2 bottles of wine 2 portions of bread & 2 dishes each with one person also having pudding. I went for the moules mariniere & potato gratin. Potato Gratin was lovely the moules were nice. My constructive feedback would be size of the pot (although admittedly cute to look at) they came in made it difficult to access the sauce at the start - a shallower wider dish would have been preferable so I could get more sauce on each mussel and got the full taste more. Although it is a small plate restaurant both dishes were good sized portions and plenty particularly with the bread. All my colleagues enjoyed their food. Bread was freshly sliced & the garlic oil as well as the butter was a lovely alternative. Great wine list with lots of choice. Came to £39 each including 10% service charge. Would I visit again? Yes

Really great food and service. Reasonably priced and several options from sharing boards to main meals. Really enjoyed it and will go again. It’s not a huge place so suggest you book in advance especially at the weekend

We were served by Callum last night who was very attentive and explained the menu well. The food was out of this world we were pleased with each dish we chose. The poached pear for dessert was so unbelievable! 10/10 would recommend

A wonderfully relaxed restaurant serving great tasting food. Designed more as sharing plates. Service was excellent and I was impressed to the effort put into cleaning and polishing the glasses.

Main menu is small tapas sized dishes and the plat du jour traditional starter and main. All food was excellent on both our visits. Large excellent French wine list with plenty of choice for glasses, all at reasonable prices. All wines are also sold at retail prices to take away. Service immaculate with good attention to detail. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. Can't recommend highly enough.

Visited Saturday 4th November. Lovely relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant. The service is first class, can’t speak highly enough of the staff, they made a big fuss of my 10 yr old daughter. The food was amazing. We had just travelled back from France last week & it’s as good as any meal that we have had over there. The food is expensive but fantastic quality. Lovely restaurant for a special occasion

Love, love, love this place. As someone who grew up in France and lives in London, finding authentic French cuisine that is comparable is slim. But this place, wow it brought me back to my childhood.

Anniversary meal at this restaurant. The venue is very nice, making great use of the small space and it’s well decorated. Equally the staff were superb, attentive but not overly so and very friendly. The menu is very good with plenty of choice, however several items sold out despite this being an early reservation. (6:30pm). Sadly the food wasn’t as good as some other places. The dauphinois were overly seasoned so salt was the predominant taste, while the sauces on both the lamb and pork chop were reduced too much so they were more gloopy. Most disappointing was the lamb itself which was over cooked in parts and underdone in other (I appreciate this is a personal preference so many will have found it fine). I would probably return as any chef can have a bad night and the prices were good and as mentioned, staff and venue were great.

Visited for the first time today - what a delightful lunch! Service was superb, food simply delicious - could not recommend more highly. Will be back (hopefully when the tartiflette returns to the menu!)

Super welcome and brilliant team of people looking after us. Fish Croquettes, chicken liver pate and bread portion were all delicious. Fries were big/rustic. Camembert wasn’t very exciting, Prawns were well cooked but sauce was lacking punch, aubergine wasn’t to our taste, overly sweet, we didn’t eat it, but were not charged, so very fair. We had a bottle of the Vouvray Brut, Champalou, which was ok, it wasn’t brilliantly chilled when it arrived so we left it in the ice bucket for a while, that definitely improved it. Loved the decoration and vibe. Toilets were spotless. All in lunch for 2 was £102.08 including service - service was great! I hate being negative when the people looking after us have been so good, this is not a reflection on the customer facing team but I doubt we’ll be back.

This was my second visit to the French Quarter, and this time I was on my own. Everything was perfect, from the moment I arrived: friendly service, beautifully cooked food (portions not too large), an excellent glass of Rhone wine, and a calm and relaxed atmosphere: a bit of music but not intrusive. Like the best of France, but under an arch in Newcastle. Vive la différence!

Had a delicious birthday lunch today with good friends. We had the 3 course special. All of our choices were delicious. The atmosphere was relaxed and they gave us time to make room for dessert.

Visited with my daughter who is vegan . Shared a selection of starters and mains , then had individual deserts. All courses were great. Had a really nice waitress who helped us with our menu choices and wine selection. Highly recommend a visit

The best meal I have had in the UK for a very long time. Food and service 10/10. Highly recommend the artichoke and charcuterie board. The price is reasonable for the great quality food. The service is attentive and friendly. The place is clearly popular as even at 4pm as I type it is full so booking is advised. Keep up the outstanding food and service French Quarter !

Had a fantastic dining experience here. The food was lovely and the service was fantastic. We visited on a Saturday night. The atmosphere was very relaxed and even though the dining room was full we didn't have to wait long for service. Food and drinks to be served. The food itself was great. Traditional french served tapas style which allowed us to mix and share. It was clearly prepared and cooked by a team who take great care in what they do and to a high standard. The serving staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive and provided a great level of service. Would highly recommend

We found this restaurant on TA and decided to give it a go for lunch based on the really good reviews, we were not disappointed. We chose 4 dishes (duck leg, dauphinois potatoes, ratatouille and fish croquettes) which we shared as the food is like French tapas. Everything was perfect and we told the waitress it was once of the nicest meals we have had in a long time. The service was also excellent. We had a glass of wine each which the waitress helped recommend. We will definitely be back and would definitely recommend. It was a lovely atmosphere and we had a really nice time. Just a heads up, the restaurant gets busy so worth booking first and the tables have a 2hr limit on them, this was fine for us for lunch as there was only 2 of us but just worth bearing in mind in mind if you are a larger group. I personally don’t like having a time limit put on me so I would probably check this is still the case if I came with friends.

A gem of a restaurant with a french taste. Along with dinner service they also offer french small plates which is a great way to discover new tastes. He service was excellent and the overall experience very pleasant.

We absolutely love this restaurant. The food is amazing, the ambience and the staff and chefs. This is all fresh and therefore you don't get that awful processed food feeling afterwards - which many restaurants even ones which claim is fresh, do. We digest it...

A really fantastic restaurant across food, service and atmosphere. The setting is really nice under the railway arch and feels very cosy with the lighting and wine bottles on display. I would 100% recommend going here. The serve was spot on, I didn't have a reservation but they found me a spot at the bar which was perfect. You can tell all the staff have a real desire for you to have a great experience, very friendly and happy to give recommendations. I had artichoke to start, which comes as a whole globe head with a lovely vinaigrette type dip. Then chicken casserole and potato dauphinoise for my main. The casserole had a 'home-cooked' look but a really great tomatoey taste with plenty of vegetables and perfectly cooked chicken thigh pieces. The star was the dauphinoise, one of the best I've ever had. It had nice crispy bits on the top and bottom and was quite garlicky (in a very good way)! But most importantly, it wasn't overly cheesy and drowning in sauce, you could still feel the (perfectly cooked) potatoes and it wasn't impossibly rich. Bill came to £30 (no drinks), including service charge.

This was our first visit to this wonderful restaurant in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne. They serve French cuisine in a tapas style so you can try lots of different plates. The excellent service was very friendly and all of the food was fabulous....

My mother chose The French Quarter as the venue for the lunch on her 80th birthday. She had been before but it was my first visit. We had a lovely meal and felt that the service was excellent. A big thanks to them all. I will definitely be back.

Fish croquettes and ratatouille were very good, the prawns were disappointing as the portion was small (perhaps we picked poorly though). Great relaxed atmosphere, staff very attentive. The food is good but very expensive for what it is. I appreciate that it's done in a tapas presentation but very expensive for the portion size. Our bill was well over £125 for two of us and I can honestly say I was not full. The gross profit added onto dishes was very excessive £8 for a dish of green beans? Even the bread for the charcuterie board was an extra cost - I've never been served 2 different types of pate (half a table spoon of each) but with no bread?

It's the best by a mile and for someone who works closely with the Hospitality Industry it goes without saying nothing comes close as far as I'm concerned

Really nice intimate restaurant. Very good food, well presented. Great service and a superb wine list. Not cheap but for a special occasion, well worth it.

We had four small plates plus a cheese platter and some bread accompanied by a couple of glasses of the recommended house wine. All delicious.
