Lived in Gosforth my entire life but this is the first time we have tried the Standard. Why have I waited so long? We had the set meal for two for £29. It was without doubt the best curry I have ever had. When compared to the Days of the Raj it was miles ahead in terms of flavour, quality and value. Curry full of meat, delicious rice and peshwari naan to die for. We’ll be back!

We have used this establishment for years, and happily travel from our local area to pick up. Food is top notch. Appetisers, mains, sundries; always freshly prepared and a cut above other eateries. Our favourites….Madras, Pathia, Balti, Massala, usually with chicken tikka…. Absolutely fantastic. Saturday’s choice was Madras and Pathia. As nice as always. My wife always comments on the quality of the Onion Bhajis, and she’s quite fussy. The meat samosas are the best in the area. Friendly service and outstanding value for money.

Best curries in the north, we have visited the Standard Tandoori takeaway in Gosforth every week for the last few years and the food is superb. They were closed for over one year during the farcical “lockdown” and we tried other takeaways but found the quality of other places to be no where near as good. Highly Recommended!!!! Brian Hughes

We've tried a few different Indian restaurants in Gosforth when the Standard was closed but it wins every time, and it's the most reasonably priced. They seem to use fresher ingredients than neighbouring restaurants whose food is really bland in comparison - we particularly like the bhuna, dansak, pathia, and balti as safe classics, and the starters and sides never disappoint. We love how unassuming it is, they have very little online presence and don't seem to do much advertising so that's a testament to how good they are that they're still in business. I only hope they're not chased out of the market because their food really is the best.

Used this takeaway all the time before lockdown so when we realised it had reopened we were well happy. Used to collect but they now deliver. Turned up 15 minutes late luke warm and tasteless. Don't know if it's the old owner still there but my advise is avoid.

I have walked past this place on numerous occasions and always wondered how the food was. I decided to give it a go after reading good reviews. I always go for a madras when trying somewhere new using it as a benchmark, the food was great, keema pilau delicious, I will definitely return.

The Standard closed down just as we went into lockdown in March 2020, and rumour had it that it was for good. All the way through the two lockdowns and the subsequent months we had to get our curries from other takeaways and restaurants. They were pleasant enough, but we realise now that it has reopened, that none of them were as good as the Standard. Really authentic and tasty food at very reasonable prices. I could not recommend it more highly.

First time trying and WOW! I ordered the set meal for £14.95 and ordered the Chicken Pathia. Every mouthful was a pleasure to eat. The Pathia was restaurant standard. I know my Indian take away from now on. Well done Standard tandoori. See you next weekend.

Tucked away in a back lane off The Gosforth Hotel you will find a first class takeaway. The aroma from Chefs kitchen really gets the taste buds tickling and your stomach rumbling and willing you to go inside. Lovely staff, nice tasty food. Pleanty to read whike you wait around 15 minutes. You can ring your order in for collection but no home delivery at this point, although they are considering this for the future

Always good. Having tried a variety of dishes here, i generally settle on the simple but delicous tandoori chicken, with a fresh chopped salad and their lovely orange sauce. My son always wolfs down the biriyani and the daal soup is always hot & fresh. If you're looking for an Indian takeaway in Gosforth, this is the one. The staff are also extremely polite, and on the very rare occasion there was an error with my order, they were genuinely apologetic and over compensated with extra sauce & poppadoms! No need, but the gesture was appreciated, and many other restaurants could learn a lot from the customer service shown here!

I now live 135 miles away but will visit whenever I'm in the area. Looking forward to tonight, bring on the lamb pathia cooked to my personal tastes. Thank you all at the Standard!

I try and look for the positives - but I am struggling here. I guess when I picked up my takeaway I was hungry and when I finished I was less so! So where to start - well let's try the beginning. The Standard is dingy - a Stygian gloom grips you when you enter that's bodes badly and is not improved by the arrival of the food. I will summarise. Papadums soft and featuring the great taste of a week on the shelf, insipid pickle selection. Hot meat starter barely warm and made of the the toughest and most over cooked lamb I have ever had. Chicken jalfrezi clearly over cooked - chunks of pepper and onion so cooked they were virtually liquid - but at least there were some green chillies so there was a bit of bite. Decent chana bhaji.

Venturing into the fiery depths of culinary adventure, Big Gazza and I found ourselves at the doorstep of Spice Fossway Tandoori, a place where the flames of the tandoor are only outmatched by the fiery spirit of its owner, Mr. Singh. This isn't just a restaurant; it's a portal to a world where the spices sing, the naan flies, and the tales of gastronomic glory are as rich as the curries. Upon entering, Mr. Singh greeted us with a grin that suggested we weren't just there to dine, but to embark on a journey of epic proportions. He boasted that their meat was so fresh, the chickens in the back hadn't even realized they were on the menu yet. Big Gazza, wide-eyed and intrigued, asked if the livestock got to enjoy a spa day before their grand finale. Mr. Singh, with a wink, assured us that every animal was treated like royalty—right up until its very last cluck. Our first adventure was the "Great Chicken Chase," a tradition for first-timers, which Mr. Singh assured us was crucial for the dining experience. The idea was simple: catch your dinner, and you truly appreciate its journey from coop to tandoor. Big Gazza, never one to back down from a challenge, donned a chef's hat and set off like a man on a mission. The spectacle was something out of a bizarre farmyard Olympics, with Big Gazza hurdling over garden gnomes and negotiating with the hens like a poultry whisperer. After the chase, Mr. Singh revealed the secret behind their legendary tandoori chicken: a marinade so secret, he blindfolded us just to bring it out. Big Gazza, ever the detective, tried guessing the ingredients by their smell—his guesses of "sunshine" and "unicorn tears" were, unsurprisingly, off the mark. But the adventures didn't stop at poultry procurement. Mr. Singh, in a display of unparalleled hospitality, invited us to the "Naan Toss," a game where the goal was to catch flying naan breads straight from the tandoor using only a plate. Big Gazza, with the determination of a seasoned frisbee champion, managed to catch a naan so perfectly, it was immediately framed and hung on the wall, commemorating the first ever "Perfect Naan Landing." As we feasted on the fruits of our labor, Mr. Singh regaled us with stories of Spice Fossway Tandoori's legacy, each dish accompanied by a tale taller than the last. By the end of the night, not only were our stomachs full, but our spirits were lifted by the sheer joy and madness of the evening. Big Gazza, in a moment of post-curry bliss, declared it the best night of his life, vowing to return with a bigger hat for next year's Chicken Chase. In conclusion, Spice Fossway Tandoori isn't just a restaurant; it's an adventure, a comedy, and a family saga all rolled into one. Thanks to Mr. Singh's culinary wizardry and flair for the dramatic, Big Gazza and I left with more than just satisfied appetites—we left with memories that would last a lifetime, and a newfound respect for the journey from coop to plate. If you're ever in the mood for a dining experience that defies all expectations, head to Spice Fossway Tandoori. Just make sure you're ready for a bit of adventure, and maybe bring a pair of running shoes, just in case.

Went here on a busy Saturday night. Table for 2, not a problem. Small wait but the table was fresh and the chairs even pulled out for us, can never complain about that. Lovely pint of Cobra to start and ordered food. I went with the Lamb Dopiaza, pilau rice and a garlic naan. The food did take a little time to arrive but again, it was a very busy Saturday night with a few big groups. Nothing can be done about that. Well worth the wait however. Delicious curry and rice. The naan was cooked perfectly and was the perfect tool for mopping up the dish. Very reasonably priced too. I will definitely be back.

Food was delicious, I gave a four because my pathia wasn't hot at all and full of onions but apart from that top notch grub, service great, the guy at the till is a top bloke, Atmos 4 because it's a takeaway, not exactly expecting anything special.
