Solomons in Newcastle upon Tyne

I have used this Indian takeaway for over 30 year always been really happy but yesterday at 6:40 I ordered a delivery and was told it would take 40 minutes after waiting an hour and a half. I rang up. I was told my takeaway had left the shop quite a while ago He would ring the driver and get back to me he didn’t so I rang up again and was told he didn’t know where it was. It finally arrived at 8:20. And I told them to take it away I no longer wanted it. I’m extremely annoyed. I live two minutes away from the restaurant. And I was told by the driver they got caught up in the traffic in Newcastle city Centre because of the match what was my takeaway doing in Newcastle city Centre when I live two minutes away from the shop? Obviously, they have now lost a customer because I won’t be using them again !!

Best indian restaurant around the west end of newcastle and that is saying something. Despite the long wait for the food

We usually love this place and look forward to visiting. We go at least once a year and it's the highlight of our Christmas day out. It's usually our go to venue to celebrate big occasions. This year there were nine of us. This time we were disappointed with our visit. We were seated upstairs after placing our drinks order at the reception desk (all pints of cobra). The drinks took around 15 minutes to arrive and the cobra lager just didnt taste right. We were the only table of people upstairs. The poppadoms and dips turned up quite quickly. Our starters took ages to arrive but were very nice. The main meals were the main problem. We waited for a long time for them. The rice and nanns turned up and sat going cold. The naans were mixed up on shared plates. Eventually the main dishes started arriving but one was sat on a spare table to our side. It took around 10 mins from the first main arriving to the whole table being served. One of our friends decided to leave. The food was great however and staff very apologetic for the situation. We did get a slight discount but it really didn't compensate for the service. Staff said it was busy downstairs but that doesn't excuse us being forgotten. The place hasn't quite been the same since the menu change a few years ago. I think our next big meal out maybe in the city centre ending over a decade of tradition.

Wow ,what can I say,I don't do many reviews but after tonight's dining experience, 1st time I've been since the change of ownership and I can honestly say that's got to be the best indian meal I've had the pleasure of eating and everyone's opinion was exactly the same, exquisite was the topic of the table conversation, thanks to all your staff aswell for adding to a fantastic evening.I would 100% definitely recommend ,get yourself there n try for yourself,thank you Reece and see you again soon 10/10

Really enjoyed our meal, presented well and hot. My only criticism was we waited a while for poppadoms then the rest of our meal we felt rushed, granted we sat at 9pm I wouldn't have ordered starters if I wasn't going to be able to enjoy my main, ended up taking most of my curry home. I would recommend and will return but earlier time 😁 staff were nice and friendly, good atmosphere.

Our large party was warmly welcomed and treated to outstanding service. It truly was a top-tier dining experience in Newcastle. The food was flavorful and satisfying, and the restaurant's atmosphere and design were spot-on. Without hesitation, I'd recommend this place to anyone.

La última vez que pedí un solomón fue alrededor de 2022 y mi curry estaba maravilloso, hoy, pedí unos platos, un pollo tikka rogan, un pollo tikka massala, pompas, y una cebolla bhaji, Mi rogan no era tikka, solo pollo simple y eso me molestó, pensando que como estaba mezclado en la salsa no me daría cuenta, (foto incluida) patético, el rogan era absolutamente insípido en sabor y nadando en ghee, muy soso, abrí el massala solo para ver que era un curry totalmente diferente, lleno de chiles, clase, apuesto a que a mi hija de 10 años le hubiera encantado eso, si los anillé y dejaron caer el curry correcto, el massala estaba absolutamente bien, el barji de cebolla era suave y decente y no muy agradable, destripado este curry fue una decepción, estropeó mi velada, y si este es el estándar no voy a visitar el restaurante, no voy a volver.

Great place, great food, great people, great service!!

Got my food delivered chips weren’t fresh they were old chips you could tell they have been sitting there for awhile and just been reheated. There excuse was they were well done and that they would send fresh chips out so I asked for them to send the full order because the rest of the food would be cold and they refused and said they would not send the chips so don’t wastes your money because are meal went in the bin. Don’t know what it is with takeaways these days but none of them can’t cook fresh chips always send old ones

Occasionaly one comes across a place that just oozes sytle and sofistication.

Just got charged £16 for a double shot of Gold label, in their menu it was written £6.75 for double shot of any spirit, when asked they said it’s premium whiskey but they have not mentioned anything nor written anywhere in their menu, food prices are good but the food itself is not good, there’s far more better places than this in the area.

You going here to get a few bits in Newcastle win the league Cup final and chips and a couple more of 6.30 and burgers are also the morro at the moment but it's a good idea

Was recommended here by a friend and it did not disappoint. Food was delicious with a good selection of starters, curries and sides. Prices were very good considering how good the food was. Will definitely be back here again. 10/10.

We get delivery's from solomons quite often the food is always nice and Raheem the delivery driver is always on time and very polite and professional a credit to the restaurant.

We had a Solomon’s delivered tonight by Raheem. The delivery was so quick and the driver was really friendly and pleasant. We also got our curry made mild for someone in our family who could not tolerate spice and it was the nicest curry she has ever had. The food was so nice. Definitely going to be ordering from Solomon’s more often. I would highly recommend others to do the same. Food and service was just amazing.

We live local to Solomon’s but have always travelled through to Shields for an Indians. We decided to spend my mum’s birthday here as she has been poorly at the moment and didn’t want to travel far. No regrets. Why haven’t we tried this place before?! The atmosphere of the restaurant is 10/10 even down to the lighting. The food was absolutely amazing. I got an onion bhaji starter which was gorgeous! Best I’ve ever had. For my main I had a chicken Ceylon and it was banging. The flavours were amazing. Definitely will be returning more often. The owner gave my mum a free bottle of Prosecco too which made her feel special 🥰 Thank you Solomon’s! ❤️

First time we’ve used this restaurant and the food was lush we got a delivery the lad who delivered Ricky rang and said he wouldn’t be long witch is a nice touch we also got a complementary bottle of Prosecco absolutely will use this restaurant again

**New updated review** I ordered the chicken tikka main that came with a plain pilau and curry sauce. I requested a madras sauce and it was delivered with madras sauce!! Brilliant. Traditional chicken tikka, it was beautifully spiced and the chicken was very, very tender. The madras sauce was a little sweet, but this could mean they use a higher volume of carrots in their base gravy which is okay, everywhere uses their own base gravy so curries will differ. Plain pilau was beautiful and the salad was very fresh. I'm looking forward to ordering again. Thank you!

Excellent service Excellent environment

Solomons is always perfect for us and is our go to Indian Restaurant. We've been coming for a couple of years now and theres never been an issue. We celebrated a birthday last night and the service was above exemplary (he always is amazing), he made us feel welcome and made the birthday meal feel extra special.

I had not been to solomons for a while, i was suprised by new staff, all clean, smart and friendly. The food was amazing and plentyful, the friends i was with all enjoyed their food too, i would definately recommend this restaurant and i will be back soon!

Went to solomons with a few friends, we had not been for a while, was suprised to see new staff, all smart, clean tidy and friendly, food was absolutely amazing and plentyful, fairly priced, we all loved our meals, the service was perfect too, i would definately rate this place highly and definately recommend it! All staff were great The food was the best I’ve had in ages. The atmosphere was friendly and all staff made us feel so welcome and nothing was a bother for them. Would definitely recommend if you want fantastic food. My recommendation is the sizzler plate

Had an incredible night with colleagues this Saturday gone. From the start, plenty of parking. Inside looks sumptuous, with a well manucured country inn meets Indian look. Staff were smart, friendly and inviting. The food was nothing short of amazing. It was brought out hot and in a timely manner. Not bad for serving all 9 of us at the same time. Portion sizes were enough to leave all of us more than a little full. I thoroughly recommend the onion bhajis, I've never tasted better. This was my first time at this little diamond of a restaurant, but it will most definitely not be my last. 10/10.

The service was fantastic and friendly, food came really fast for a big party and they made a massive fuss since it was my birthday. Thank you to the kind staff for my bottle of wine, so unexpected! Tasty. Took a while on delivery but it’s 20% off if you order direct. The nawabi khana lamb had a good level of spice and a great flavours. They didn’t skimp on the meat either, unlike other places. The naan was big and fluffy.

Absolutely love this place. First trip back tonight since the refurbishment and came in with the boss man (pictured below) and we all love Solomons. Next time we’ll all have the t shirt 😂 the staff are always lush and go out of their way to help us and make us feel welcome. The food is incredible and the place looks insane. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 10/10 always recommending to friends and family ❤️

Recently tastefully refurbished. Been a while since we ate here, but will definitely be back. Food was tasty and piping hot. Nice house wine, music just nicely playing in background without being too loud.

What an absolute disgrace asked for two kebab wraps, plus a main and 1 chips got charged 45.00 plus for my birthday meal. Got two trays of 3 bits of meat for a starter. My husband had no wrap tried to speak to the staff who hung up on me when questions were asked.....STAY AWAY RIP OFF MERCHANTS.....NOT HOW THE RESTAURANT USED TO BE.....

We last visited here 6 years ago before we moved to live in France, we came back to visit family and had to come back here and how lucky we were as this was their first night open after being closed for refurbishment. If it’s possible the food was even better than I remember, the staff and service was exceptional. If like us you used to come here I would recommend coming back, they are open and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Have been to Solomons countless times over many, many years. We were back in Newcastle yesterday and went to get an early dinner before a concert at The Sage. Sadly all shut up and deserted despite the website saying it was open from 4 p.m. Made finding another restaurant a bit of a rush in order to get to the concert in time. A great shame if it is the end of the road for Solomons but a note on the website would have been a great help. Rather inclined to look elsewhere next time and not bother with this restaurant.

Good food, service very very very slow. Side dishes very expensive and not a vast amount served. Wine selection not good.

So expensive now. Some items up by 40% use to Love Solomons. Ordered regularly. Visit regularly spending a lot of money at their restaurant. Ordered a takeaway. 2.5 hours and everything was cold. Took 10mins heating every portion. Completely spoiled our meal. Tried contacting them. No reply. Looks like I'll be going elsewhere from now on.

no prawns or lamb tikka available. no draught lager. onion bhaji was nice as was friends chicken tikka starter. My main of lamb pathia was too sickly sweet and a very thin sauce. friends chicken jalfrezi was nice. naans were not brilliant, small thin and very oily

Had a fab meal here on Saturday tea time. Can't fault the food or the service. The interior of the restaurant is also very nice.

We have used Solomons for fifteen to twenty years but after our recent experiences of their takeaway meals we are going elsewhere. Over the last couple of years (post lockdown) we have felt that there has been less and less meat in their dishes and the last straw was ordering a meal on 30 June 2023 for ourselves and another couple. The starter (tandoori king prawns) was hugely overpriced for what it was; there was very little meat or fish in the main courses. We were so disappointed that we called in the next afternoon to complain. We were assured by the manager that he would contact his area manager and that he would get in touch with us. We heard nothing so I rang again and spoke to the same manager ten days later. He apologised and told me he would contact the area manager again but that he himself couldn’t offer us a refund or any other compensation. Sadly we have heard nothing since. This is very poor customer service to say the least. We have found in recent years that there has been less and less meat and fish in all of our menus and we have now decided to go elsewhere from now on after this particularly disappointing experience.
