Newbengal in Newcastle upon Tyne

The food was fine but the service non existent! The waiter did not speak to us the whole meal except for taking the order. No response to attempted chit chat and absolutely sullen face. Looked so unhappy! Drinks came but no attempt to renew when finished. Have come here often over many years and this was the worst. At 19.40 on a Friday evening the restaurant was virtually empty. Looks like folks are voting with their feet. Such a shame and so easy to rectify! Come on New New Bengal. Up your game big time! Ps First time in over many years I haven’t added a service charge / tip to a bill!

The service was efficient, but the waiting staff were miserable from start to finish. A smile does not cost anything! The food was fine, but nothing special. Needless to say we did not leave a tip and will not be returning.

Family trip for a birthday. Been coming years but its been a minute since last visit. As always staff so lovey. I've been dying to try the mixed grill for years but today was the day and it did not disappoint! But we warned its huge! I knew I shouldn't have had starter but couldn't stop my self. Thank God for take home boxes! Thanks again new new bengal for amazing service, food and a great nite. We will be back soon.

Had the most beautiful delivery from here tonight. I am officially the most fussy person on the planet with takeaway food.....I can honestly say this was the ULTIMATE curry. It was perfect. Chicken korma was completely delicious. Not too sweet but naturally coconut flavour. I had peshwari naan which was perfect. We ordinarily have very expensive Indian food from another local restaurant but this was recommended by many and I am 100% in agreement that this is 5 star cuisine.

It's nice. It is up there. I highly recommend. Can't fault it. Lovely staff. Lovely food. Through no fault of their own I have to mark it down 1 because there's a few others within a few miles and none of them scream 'COME HERE' all nice tho.

I’ve always come to this restaurant as I’m particularly fond of the lamb chops they do. The bengal lamb chops are truly superb and never disappoint. Throughout the years, I’ve come here fairly regularly and most recently I’ve stopped going all together because of the staff. The staff do unnecessary patrols up and down the tiny seating area and constantly stare at you and your plate to see whether you’ve finished eating even though they go up and down again and again just eyeballing you. There’s one member of staff there who mainly takes orders. I understand if English isn’t someone’s first language however this particular gentleman simply can’t speak the language. Full stop. So it makes it tricky to try and explain what you actually want to order. The older gentleman who I believe is the business owner had an interaction with an Uber eats driver who came in while I was eating. The way in which he spoke to this man was completely unacceptable and that was the final straw for me. He spoke to him like a dog, shouting at him to “go stand over there”. The delivery drivers working for the business, I see in the area quite frequently and all smoke in the car, not pleasant.

Could be the best vindaloo in Newcastle.

Been coming here for a while now after having a bad experience at another Indian restaurant in Gosforth. The food is lovely and always totally consistent I have ordered the same dish multiple times on different occasions and it has always been flawless. The young waiters are always attentive and the service is fast. Never had a bad meal here always excellent. The saagwalla always my favourite!

Six septa/octogenerians out for our 46th year of monthly dinners. Servie good, initial drinks good, poppadums good, starters good and main courses particularly good. In fact, a very good night.

Food fab but small potions and no rice with curry .

Ordered a chicken tikka bhuna and vegetable madras Collected I shop and they gave me a chicken madras Vegetable bhuna. Tried phoning multiple times and no answer used to be a great Indians But has fell off a cliff

Foods always delicious, quick service. Maybe a bit too quick to tidy up when you're nearly finished. Feels a bit rushed

Brilliant, high quality, good value food.

We went to the New New Bengal for my birthday lastnight. Been a little while since we have been but my god I didn't disappoint at all. The food was beautiful. The staff were fantastic same as always. At 1 point we even had the owner bring us some of our food. Honestly can't fault this place at all. Best curry in Newcastle and staff go above and beyond. Thankyou New New Bengal for a great birthday

Tasty food and friendly and efficient service. The atmosphere was relaxed and allowed us to chat - less frenetic than some other Gosforth restaurants.

Went for fathers day restaurant only had a few people so was quiet ,took a long time for food to come to table and wondered why ? Then seen lots and lots of takeaways getting collected seems they are so focused on takeaways that the service for the restaurant is let down ,food was lovely but waiting time was far to long

33 cheswick. Christmas delivery spent £50. Cold, poor quality and poor value. Sat 11th feb. 2 hrs del. Spent 30, again clay cold chips. Burnt nan and tasteless rice. Promise restaurant quality. Will no longer use.

GF catered for. Just a good old typical curry house, especially after a drink on the high Street! Can't fault it.

The food was not very good which is unusual but we won't be going back I presume that they have a different chef.

Food not bad, had better. Ordered starters twice and there forgot them 35mins later we got them had to ask. Service not good, the only one who was polite was the young lad who served awere food. Will not be going back. Its all about the takeaway food.

Had a lovely mid week meal here with colleagues. Lamb handi with rice included was really full of flavour with a thick gravy. Really generous portions too everyone struggled to finish. Like the paintings in here and the deco. Recommend

The Curry was as delicious as ever but it’s a shame to be served plain boiled rice with some onion through it when you paid for onion pilau!

The staff were lovely and the restaurant is clean and modern. I ordered poppadoms and pickle tray, unfortunately they weren't fresh and were soggy and chewy. The mains were a saag dish and pathia. They had lots and lots of meat, great sized portions, they were a little bland for our tastes but would probably suit someone else

The curry and pilau rice was delicious. I was impressed and I do often eat curry at home. Nan was kind of what you'd expect from any takeaway. Lamb chops were okay too. I overlooked it because it still tasted okay and the price was fair. The service was very good. The chef listened to our requests. Overall a very good dining experience.

Went for a sit in meal here and loved it. The staff were very nice. The food was fantastic and We would definitely recommend and definitely return. The tables are a bit close to each other but it wouldn't stop us going back.

An excellent curry meal. The big win for me was the use of chopped chilli in the dishes. The lemon and chilli rice is an example of that. Fabulous meats in the dishes and lovely naan. A very very good curry!

Always a great service with great food

Food was delicious and staff were friendly. However, the table’s were far too close too each other and our table was not big enough for the amount of food ordered. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to move to a bigger table as these were kept for larger party numbers; which meant that our table was quite crowded. But overall, a good experience.

Lovely food and drinks when dining in and staff are friendly and polite too. Food is just as good when delivered too but this restaurant is always busy with diners and deliveries so may have to wait a while for your food delivery but worth the wait.

Nice local Indian restaurant. Staff were polite and food was quick. I ordered the shashlik with a side of masala chips. Both were very good. My partner ordered the chicken tikka paneer, again, very good. The total bill was very reasonable. I highly recommend.

Worst veggie Bhuna curry we’ve ever had in our lives. It’s like the spices were totally left out, and awful mush of veggies and a weak, thin sauce. Couldn’t even finish it. I’m afraid we won’t be returning.

Good food, reasonably priced and good service. Initially thought where are the restaurant specials but actually the menu is very good. Lots of choices for my wife who is vegetarian. Spice levels seem realistic and not over or under hyped. Certainly will go back.

I've been to New New Bengal on a number of occasions. It has a great menu with delicious food and the people who work there are very friendly.

I was quite disappointed with the lack of communication between the floor staff and the kitchen staff. After a discussion with the waitress my wife ordered the chicken Kori NOT TIKKA chicken Kori however they brought TIKKA this was then changed for the correct order. I had ordered the chicken tikka Balti when this came it was a bit bland while eating I could see the water running out of it the head waiter changed this straight away. The second meal much tastier and of better consistency. If they could get things right first time it would be a better experience. the atmosphere downstairs is pleasant enough but upstairs is like a café due to the fact there's no soft furnishing for deadening the noise.

Dropped in on spec after watching a cricket match. Starters were delicious, particularly the prawn on Puri. Main meals turned up and were massive! Even though they were very tasty I didn't manage to finish mine.

Very nice food, if just a little expensive

I have used this restaurant as a takeaway many times, the food has been varied from average to really good. However we had a meal delivered last night from the New New Bengal and the standard of the food was very disappointing. I do not usually leave a bad review however both mine and my husband's meal was completely tasteless and had this been served in a restaurant would have been sent back. Will not be using this restaurant again but will source another takeaway outlet.

Amazing food. Ready on time. Fresh good quality ingredients, which we were starting to struggle with from previous restaurants.

Amazing service and delicious food which didn't disappoint. Had the Tikka masala and chicken korai, both very good. However I usually judge an indians on its sag/palak paneer and this was amazing. I'll go back just for that. Highly recommend, location is fab too just off the high street. Also very reasonably priced for the quality. The lady who served us was amazing too. Definitely worth the 5 star review in every sense.

A very warm welcome, we were sat beside the door which was raining and cold but asked to be moved even though the place was full anyway got moved. Staff were fantastic and place very clean and course of the pandemic they new what to do, the meal was very filling and fantastic 🐷🐷🐷,we took an menu home as found out you order food and pick it up 😋😋😋. DEFINITELY BE BACK AGAIN

We visited tonight, it was incredible! We called and booked an hour or so ahead, they were very accommodating. The food was amazing! Wonderful flavours and a great selection. Would happily visit again!

For anyone wanting a curry in Gosforth this is the venue to be. Fantastic food but importantly also scrupulously adhering to COVID safe guidelines. The staff were so welcoming and attentive. We felt safe and at the end very satisfied. Top curry, top place.

Nuestra primera comida desde el final del encierro tenía que ser buena, ¡así que el New New Bengal fue una obviedad!En primer lugar, tranquilizar a los restaurantes estaba totalmente en sus prácticas de seguridad covid. Bien espaciados y todo el personal enmascarado, todas las mesas desocupadas limpiadas y desinfectadas de inmediato con gel de manos esparcido alrededor. Con todo esto, todavía había un ambiente agradable y animado en el restaurante.Siempre recomendaré las chuletas de cordero de Bengala para un entrante delicioso, húmedo y bien condimentado. Los popadoms son siempre crujientes y frescos y la bandeja de condimentos es muy generosa y variada. Gran bhaji de cebolla ligero y no graso con pan naan esponjoso. Pollo tikka balti con generosas porciones de delicioso pollo jugoso. También tuvimos un mach Lori que llevamos a casa mientras los dos llenábamos. Afortunadamente, después de llegar a casa, tomamos nuestro segundo aire y lo aspiramos. Firmes, suculentos, filetes de pescado en gran porción, con una salsa fantástica. Encantado de encontrar este maravilloso local para llevar. La comida es deliciosa y sabrosa. Mis hijos están muy contentos con el pollo tikka mossala. Hemos probado bhuna, pathia y jal freizi (¿sp?) Y nos gustan extra picantes. Lo que es brillante es que no solo golpean una carga de chiles, sino que también puedes probar todas las demás especias.¡Increíble bandeja de pepinillos para popadoms que son igualmente sabrosos para el desayuno (con resaca)!Gracias también por nuestros encantadores regalos de cobra. Delighted to find this wonderful local takeaway. The food is delicious and flavoursome. My kids are very happy with the chicken tikka mossala. We’ve tried bhuna, pathia and jal freizi (sp?) and like them extra spicy. What’s brilliant is that they don’t just whack a load of chillis in but you can actually taste all the other spices too. Amazing pickle tray for popadoms which are equally tasty for (a hungover) breakfast! Thanks too for our lovely Cobra gifts,very thoughtful. Highly recommend

El personal aquí es muy agradable y siempre nos saluda por nuestro nombre, lo que nos hace sentir bienvenidos y apreciados como clientes. La nueva decoración interior es muy elegante y hace que la experiencia gastronómica sea aún mejor. En cuanto a la comida, es deliciosa y no está mal de precio, no me puedo quejar. También hacen comida para llevar que es igualmente deliciosa y el servicio suele ser muy rápido también.

Excellent ambience, and great modern Indian cuisine.

I really enjoyed the food at the New New Bengal and the service was fantastic also. We use the New New Bengal as our takeaway choice all of the time and it never disappoints and we wanted to try and sit in with the family. The Chicken Korai is my favourite dish and just has the right amount of chillis, chefs special. I would also recommend the ‘Bengal Topki’ which is a chefs special.

La comida era buena y fresca y abundante! Atiende a nuestros amigos vegetarianos y nosotros comedores de carne. Tomó un tiempo cocinarlo todo, pero fue un gran pedido. Have been four times now and each time has been very good quality food. Tasty and very nicely presented. Nice restaurant and lovely staff. Our favourite Gosforth restaurant now.

eventually got parole (ie a babysitter)so after years of wanting to come eventually made it! food was amazing...went a bit over board with the excitement of freedom and couldn't come close to eating everything I had ordered but can't say a single bad word...food amazing...staff friendly but not over bearing...and when I said I liked a particular pickle another tray was brought at no further cost...expected bill to be at least 80 for 2 of us...£54 including wine! shocked not even the word! will be back as soon as I can...in fact brought home take away menu! thank you so much x

Great food, good value, friendly staff

Recently visited New New Bengal and we were once again delighted with our experience. The staff are warm, friendly and informative regarding menu choices and our chosen dishes were delicious and spice wise exactly as ordered. Portions are healthy hence we took some home!! Would recommend.
