Had a lush dinner here. Would recommend the Chaat samosa and lamb biryani. For the desi people, you can ask them to make it indian level spice for some actual spicy food. Staffs were friendly and attentive

So pleased we chose to dine here last night. What a fabulous place. Upon walking in you can see the place is spotlessly clean, the young man who welcomed us was excellent... polite, prompt, attentive and very helpful. The food is simply divine! My wife had the Tikka Masala and I had the Dansak... both by far the best we have ever had. The young man serving us is a credit to the owners of this restaurant (as is the chef)... would score 6/5 if I could!

This Restaurant didn’t disappoint such a relaxing vibe . Second visit so we tried a few new things from the menu . Firstly we opted for Hyderabadi Lamb Shank main course, this was huge and so tender enough for two people really . Keema Rice and a Keema Nan bread , the best I’ve ever tasted . Also a main course of Malabar Chicken Curry which was so flavoursome with juicy tender meat and a nice kick . Lovely clean restaurant with friendly staff . If you haven’t been please try . Don’t go if you are in a hurry , just sit and relax as they don’t rush serving as they want you to enjoy the culinary delights.

Fast becoming a regular haunt for us! We often call in here for a meal either before or after going to the cinema or theatre as it's just a short stroll down the road. They do an excellent pre-theatre menu at a very reasonable price and we've had quite a few dishes off the a la carte menu as well and never been disappointed. The food always looks appealing and fresh and tastes great. Good choice and variety. I especially like the seafood and vegetable options. Staff are always helpful and friendly and just a nice relaxed atmosphere generally. Looking forward to going back next week.

Worst curry I've ever had. Had to ask if it was a chicken tika masala as colour was nothing like & taste definitely wasn't like any curry. Was told yes, just no colour additions!! I guess no flavour additions. Explains why nobody else was in there when we went. X4 of us left 90% of food. Chicken was chewy (frozen previous probs) curry very very bland. Should be severely embarrassed to serve this. Hate to leave negatives on this, but that's how bad! Someone else went & paid. I would have argued paying fully. They lost Sunday custom from many more of us as a group.

We came here on the 30th June, just ny husband and I. It was Sunday evening and just after the England match so it was very quiet. We were greeted promptly and sat down. Our orders were taken very promptly and food arrived in good time, hot and fresh. I had the sampler to start which was absolutely delicious. My husband enjoyed his starter and then the mains came and we had ordered rice each as well. I had a masala dish which was beautiful but after tasting my husbands, I had serious food envy. Unfortunately I can't remember what it was called but it was a chicken dish infused with chilli garlic and Coriander. Its not a typical dish and when asked, the owner said it was their own creation so we wouldn't find it anywhere else. It was absolutely amazing! The owner was lovely and friendly and willing to chat. 2 mains, 2 starters, 2 sides and 2 beers came to £61! Would absolutely recommend 👌

We have just had a meal here. Food was so nice - fresh, aromatic and set the taste buds alive…. We preferred it to other well known restaurants in the area. The service was attentive but not too over baring, pleasant background music and a nice atmosphere. The only reason we gave this a 3 star rating for atmosphere was that we arrived as soon as it opened on a Sunday,Grey Street was closed and limited access, also the Hopping was on. I expect this to get busier as the evening progresses. I would highly recommend a visit!

We first visited this restaurant on our last trip to Newcastle. As it was such lovely food on our visit 12 months ago, we decided to eat there again on our first night in the city. We shared a chicken dish and a lamb dish and they were both as delicious as we’d remembered. Quite often curries can be oily but both dishes were just so flavoursome. Pilau rice, Keema naan and garlic naan were our accompaniments. Both naans were very light and not heavy or stodgy. Despite us having a huge number of restaurants to choose from for our third night, we went back to Ayla and again chose two different lamb and chicken dishes all washed down with reasonably priced merlot and draught Kingfisher. I definitely recommend trying Ayla and we’ll definitely be visiting again on our next trip to Newcastle.

Booked online for a table for 3 on a winter evening in late December. Warm welcome by the staff and shown to our table. Very attentive staff and drinks were ordered. Their Bombay bicycle IPA is a nice drop, as is their Peacock Indian Cider (mango and lime flavour) . We ordered starters of the smashed samosa and the paneer...both were excellent (and thanks to the waiter for advising on the best dishes to try). For main I had the prawn biryani...which was so hearty that I couldn't finish it. The jackfruit dish was reported on as incredibly tasty too while the Murgh dish was also very good!. Finished off with a cup of Masala tea and 3 very happy eaters. Bill with drinks came in at just under £100 so great value too.

The food was tasty but small portions to what we have been use to in a Indian restaurant. The pickle tray was very small for 3 people and the 3 little poppadoms were like crisps. The main concern was, it was not welcoming at all. The restaurant was freezing. We were put near the window and then changed tables as was so cold. It didn't make any difference as it was still so cold. Our booking was 8.30 so I would have expected it to be warm by then if they only put heating on when opens. The waiter kept going to the front door where the heater blew hot air out when it sensed someone was there but it didn't make any difference. Wouldn't recommend as couldn't get out quick enough to go and get warm.

Firstly the waiter tried to seat us at a table which in our opinion was unacceptable, but then moved us to one that we chose at that time the restaurant was empty , my husband ordered a starter and when it came it looked like a cheeseburger and he said it tasted like a MacDonalds although it was lamb , I ordered what I thought would be a sizzling chicken tikka but turned out to be tasteless and not at all tasty , so all in all a bad experience that cost us £63

Looking at the reviews I was looking forward to dining here, unfortunately I was disappointed. I ordered poppadoms and a pickle tray as normal. The restaurant only serve a basket of small poppadoms. Not really what I like, as I filed them more like crisps than poppadoms. Don't get me wrong. They were nice and light and tasty, but not for me. As my main dish, I ordered a Dhal, well that's what it said on the menu. I have never had a Dhal that you cannot eat with a fork. The dish was that thin and watery the Dhal ran through the fork. I had to eat it with a spoon. All the other Dhal that I have eaten and made have been thick and you can actually see the lentils, not this one. Don't get me wrong, it was tasty, but not a pleasant experience. Would I return 🤔 not sure. If you find my review helpful please follow me as I have plenty more and review on a regular basis.

I found the food and service in this restaurant profoundly disappointing. The decor far outperformed the food. The Tawa Kebab that I ordered as my starter was half the size of others brought to the table and looked like a burger topped with a slice of melted cheese. The side-salad looked well past its use-by date. My main course of Murgh Morich Dhonia was mediocre at best. It lacked flavour and finesse. The peshwari nan was small but arguably the best part of the meal. Staff just didn't seem to care about my views. I can't envisage returning. (As a post-script to my review, after visiting, I learned that Ayla received a food hygiene rating of two, from a possible five, during an inspection on 21 June 2023. Had I known that at the time, I would not have dined at the restaurant.)

Went to this restaurant with my partner expecting some great dining experience. Food is mediocre at best. We ordered lamb seekh kebab and it is alright but we expect it to have more flavour as Indian food is famous for its spices and kicks. Then we ordered another lamb dish and a chicken dish as our main course. The portion is appalling. In both of our dishes, we only received 5-6 pieces of lamb/chicken each and a bunch of veggies to cover them up. For that price, I was expecting more in terms of portion. They both are very tasteless and dry, using the sauce to cover up the flaws although even the sauce couldn't cover it up because they are tasteless too. I even doubted if the chicken is frozen. Even the ice cream for dessert that I ordered at the end of our 3 course meal was very bad. The taste is a bit off. After the meal, my stomach is upset and I am sure it is because of that meal in the restaurant since I didn't eat anything before that for the whole day. The only plus side is the server is friendly and plates are served hot and that's about it. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone at all.

I was in Newcastle for work and fancied an Indian meal, which so I checked the reviews. Ayla @ Grey St had good reviews so I thought I would give it a try. I was not disappointed. The service as soon as I walked through the door was exceptional. Very attentive but kept their distance until you needed them. I had chicken Malabar which was exquisite. Would thoroughly recommend it

Terrible.......Ordered starter of Tandoori prawns. 4 pieces all tasting like tandoori rubber.Main watery rice dishes tasted like old rice. Never again

Terrible food i'm afraid, as well as not the cleanest of places, staff are a little rude at times and nearly always give you the wrong order, so frustrating, i've giving them many chances and this was my last ever visit to this place
