The best restaurants serving British food in South Lanarkshire South West Scotland

Sadly the Biggar Flavour bakery shop closed on 29 June 2019. The owners continue to operate "The Orchard" next door where some of their bakery products are still made available along with jams, preserves, etc. The main difference is that they no longer provide sandwiches, ready made meals or hot savoury items.

This small café/bistro operated varying limited hours and we were never entirely sure when it would be open. They also held bookable “themed” nights offering a taste of food from differing countries on occasion. Sadly having only recently discovered their very nice coffee and cake we followed this up with a lunch visit on 30 August 2024 only to discover of their plans to close the place permanently at the end of September 2024. It’s a pity since the food we had on this occasion was very good indeed. We both had chicken skewers Morrocan style, the tender juicy chicken pieces coated in a very tasty sauce which included fruit and all accompanied with a fresh salad with a lovely dressing. A very flavoursome dish overall. We followed this up with a giant decorative pot of tea for two served in china cups and some cake. My wife selected a “Lammington” - sponge cake coated in raspberry and coconut and served with double cream, whilst I had a portion of Blueberry & Lemon Tart with double cream. My wife was very happy with her choice and I found myself almost licking the plate despite it seems having been given 2 slices of the thin light pastry tart which was oozing with a delicious topping. Total cost was a reasonable £34. The owners in our experience were friendly and chatty and are moving on to other ventures based from their home. The place was busy at our lunch visit and there was a pleasant ambiance with satisfied customers enjoying their food and drink. Seems a pity that it won't be available in future. The single unisex toilet was very well maintained.

Had an amazing meal this evening. Food is absolutely delicious! I would recommend 100% It is all plant based and my goodness the food is so fresh and well cooked. We went and enjoyed a glass of wine which is bring your own with delicious food, such an excellent evening

Amazing food every time we have been. Local seasonal produce. Better food than some Michelin star restaurants. Friendly staff and great service

We stopped here for lunch while passing through and were so happy we did. It was fantastic, the food was delicious, plenty of choice and prices were reasonable. We will stop here again as its a hidden gem!

Was over from Northern Ireland visiting friends who live in the nearby area last week, the food was absolutely beautiful and the two ladies who run the business couldn’t have been any nicer, friendly atmosphere, great service and amazing food. The menu had lots to offer. I went for the ‘Salt & Chilli Chicken’ and it was absolutely delicious and the Caramel Apple Pie was phenomenal! We all will definitely be back on our next visit over, thanks again everyone 😊

On a trip to Scotland, I randomly popped into Zest and had the best tuna mayo sandwich I’ve ever tasted. The bread was incredibly soft, and the tuna mayo was perfection. I still dream about that sandwich and am heartbroken I can’t have it again now that I’m back in the States.😔

just a big thankyou to the owner (chef) and his family and all the staff for the fantastic hogmany meal and the party afterwards. As usual the best of food and had one of the best new years in a long time.Keyboard player and singer really got the place going . Thanks so so much .will be booking for next year and cant wait to return for the amazing food throughout the year

This has been a firm favourite of ours to visit over the years. Always guarantee great food and a lovely warm atmosphere. It has recently been taken over, and I am happy to say that the new owners have hit the ground running with new deals and events. They have kept the same amazing atmosphere, homely and cosy, along with the fantastic quality of food. We popped in for their Wednesday steak frites deal. To start, we had the panko mushrooms and black garlic aioli, mushrooms were big, cooked well, and nice crisp coating. We also had the Parmasan and truffle churros. The churros were a bit on the soggy side but still had fantastic flavours. The honey dip worked really well with the parmasan and truffle. We both opted for steak frites (£10) and both really enjoyed our meal (so much so i tucked in too quickly before capturing a picture of the served meal ), steak cooked perfectly, and chips gorgeously crisp, maybe like most places, you can just pop the chips on the plate and save on the washing up of the little pots. We added on some sauces to our steaks, great peppercorn sauce, one of the best I've had in a while. The service was good, a little slow, as they looked a bit understaffed and it was extremely busy, we did need to pop up to the bar for the bill. The bar was buzzing and cosy with the fire crackling away. This is a perfect spot for food. It's comforting, warm, friendly and relaxed, everything you could want and need from a cosy country pub

For what and where it is, I cannot really complain. Prices choices and quality are Very good. ! No complaints from me.!

WE STAY NEARBY AND HAVE WENT HERE SINCE IT OPENED AND IN GENERAL ITS ALWAYS DELIVERED. DESPITE VERY FRIENDLY STAFF AND GREAT SERVICE THE QUALITY OF FOOD HAS FALLEN. HOW HARD CAN IT BE TO SERVE A "HOT" CARVERY AND DECENT MEAT. MY WIFE HAD THAT AND I HAD BURGER/CHIPS WHICH HAD SUFFERED SHRINKFLATION; THE CHIPS WERE AMAZING AND THE BURGER WAS OKISH BUT CERTAINLY SMALLER AND LESS TASTY. MY WIFE COMPLETED CUSTOMER FEEDBACK BUT NEVER HEARD BACK HENCE MY REVIEW. HOPEFULLY IT IMPROVES AS WE LOVE GOING, BUT NOT FOR THAT STANDARD 🙏

I would definitely recommend this hotel all staff members are friendly and welcoming. The beds and very comfortable and you also get free WiFi throughout the hotel. You get a good choice on breakfasts in the morning and also get offered more if you would like. There was lots of choice in the food menu as on first night we had some dinner and the food is very good. The manager of the hotel is also lovely my partner forgot a belt for a wedding we were attending and the manager went out of his way to get us one which we really appreciate. If we have to come back to bigger for an event we would definitely be booking into the Elphinstone again. Thank you very much.
