Lamingtons in South Lanarkshire

This small café/bistro operated varying limited hours and we were never entirely sure when it would be open. They also held bookable “themed” nights offering a taste of food from differing countries on occasion. Sadly having only recently discovered their very nice coffee and cake we followed this up with a lunch visit on 30 August 2024 only to discover of their plans to close the place permanently at the end of September 2024. It’s a pity since the food we had on this occasion was very good indeed. We both had chicken skewers Morrocan style, the tender juicy chicken pieces coated in a very tasty sauce which included fruit and all accompanied with a fresh salad with a lovely dressing. A very flavoursome dish overall. We followed this up with a giant decorative pot of tea for two served in china cups and some cake. My wife selected a “Lammington” - sponge cake coated in raspberry and coconut and served with double cream, whilst I had a portion of Blueberry & Lemon Tart with double cream. My wife was very happy with her choice and I found myself almost licking the plate despite it seems having been given 2 slices of the thin light pastry tart which was oozing with a delicious topping. Total cost was a reasonable £34. The owners in our experience were friendly and chatty and are moving on to other ventures based from their home. The place was busy at our lunch visit and there was a pleasant ambiance with satisfied customers enjoying their food and drink. Seems a pity that it won't be available in future. The single unisex toilet was very well maintained.

Superb home cooked cakes and savouries in a beautiful setting, and very reasonably priced. This is my go to place when I need a treat. Today's sausage roll and lemon drizzle cake really hit the spot. I would have posted a picture, but they were gone too fast

This place has class, a very special experience, definitely worth a visit for the joy of great coffee and delicious cakes. You will never see sausage rolls like the ones sold here. A pleasure to have food and drinks served in stylish cups and cakes on decorative plates. Friendly patrons, all part of a wonderful experience.

Top notch food and service. Best sausage rolls I’ve had on my journey from London to Edinburg. Desserts were well above par too. 👍👍

Great coffee tea and cake. Great atmosphere. Delightful couple who make their own cakes, etc, ingredients sourced locally. Also, sell an exquisite range of homemade aromatherapy hand wash, hand balms, etc, made by one of the owners, and locally roasted coffee sold and served. We visited their previous store and deliberately sought it out this visit. Last time we sampled their savouries which were very different, and delicious. You will find them next to the church cafe. We will definitely call next time we're in Scotland.

Stopped here on a cycle through Biggar. Lunch menu looked amazing and the cakes and coffee were incredible. Everything made fresh on site, the only cafe in Biggar that does this. Planning how to fit this into another cycle!

An absolute treat not to be missed when in Biggar. The homemade lunches, cakes atmosphere and the staff make this an absolute must 👍☀️☀️

We had a delicious lunch with some fresh and tasty homemade food. It was lovely experience and the service was even better!

Truly delightful find for lunch! Unassuming cafe frontage -a hidden gem! My partner had the cauliflower curry (the freshest and best!) and I had the courgette and red pepper quiche with salad. I shall return for afternoon tea and cake soon- the offerings looked utterly delectable! Great interior and loved the French café background music. I hear they do themed evenings that are booked up months ahead- unsurprisingly! 10 out of 10!

If you like home made food this is the place to go.I had an all day breakfast pie which was out of this world. I also had a fruit cup cake with fresh cream mixed with mascarpone cheese. I wanted to lick the plate but my wife wouldn’t let me. Fantastic service from Susie and her staff.

What a fantastic place, run by an equally amazing couple! We have just moved to Skirling from Edinburgh and whilst waiting to pick up our new house keys, we wandered into Lamingtons. The place is so cool with the owner baking all of her own cakes etc. which were absolutely fantastic, to very well selected accompanying barista coffee. They even had the most amazing selections of homemade pie (with the meat-filled ones curated from local butchers with locally sourced meat). To top it all they operate a homeopathy-type service with amazing aromatherapy oils, again mixed and balanced by the owner, who spotted I had a sore wrist (think I'd stretched my tendon doing D.I.Y), who treated me for it free of charge and hey ho, whatdyaknow, i'm pain free 2 days later and able to take of my wrist support! Just a unique, independent, vibrant place filled with fantastic products and run by larger-than-life owners. Highly recommended!
