Was greeted at the front desk by the most grumpy woman I have ever seen. For some reason had to give them my name and phone number which they wrote down! I wanted to ask why but didn't want to cause a stir. Was ushered to a table and asked what we wanted. We wanted coffee before we had a look round the shop. I have been to the shop many times and bought lots of clothes and presents for people so have spent quite a bit of money over the years as I'm quite close by. We ordered our two coffees and a scone. I didn't order anything to eat. I am gluten intolerant and didn't want any of the big GF cakes they had so I always carry a small museli GF bar with me. The waitress came over and we gave her our order. I said I didn't want anything as I'm gluten intolerant and had my own small bar with me. The owner came over in the most abrupt manner and asked what was wrong with me? "Are you celiac?" I was so taken aback by her manner and rudeness. She did say we have GF things here and I said I know but I didn't want a large cake but if it was a big deal we will just leave. She couldn't care less if we did. Her reply was "We need to make money!" ok yes you do but the amount of money I've given this place over the past few years would certainly have covered the cake. We walked out. Such a shame as I just wanted to treat my 90 year old mother in law to a coffee. So So disappointed with the staff's attitudes, ok maybe I shouldn't have had the GF bar with me but there are ways of going about things and she definitely had no People skills. What a shame I will be telling everyone about my experience and probably won't return.

Ooooh. Truly great fish and chips in a village that knows well historically what it costs to harvest the sea. Whitehills has been a favourite of mine over many, many years. First as a child on caravan holidays in nearby Banff, later visiting vacationing family and taking my own along, and lastly as a wonderful experience for friends staying in the area. They'd already sussed out that Rock Fish is often fully booked, so we went early with a backup plan to get a takeaway if - as we immediately noticed - every table had a reserved sign (at 4pm!) However, they managed to sneak us in to a table that was reserved for slightly later, and that came as a relief to the oldest member of our party on a cold, wild day on the north-east coast. Imagine being at sea, or landing fish, in all that. We were treated to three very different and delicious dishes and one of my companions even tucked into a combo of fish and chicken, both of which suited her fine. My haddock was simply perfectly cooked and served with a smile, even though staff were very busy with large numbers of people at the takeaway counter and arriving to be seated. Whitehills and the wider area has other fine eateries and lots to see and do, but this place is where I'd go again and again for warm, local dining experiences.

Booked this as close to family nearby, but also because it is dog friendly. We had to eat in the bar area because of the dog, but this only fair to others diners. However the food was excellent and everyone enjoyed their meal. Good friendly service from staff.

Nice cup of tea and scone served by very lovely staff. We walked fast after our tour to get the table by the window! What beautiful views. The lady serving us told us about sea life and birds we might spot and offered us use of the binoculars. She was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. She offered extra hot water for our tea and chatted with us. Lovely. Would visit again if we were in the area.

The Dolphin has been on site at West Pier on Peterhead Harbour for three decades, serving favourites including fish and chips using product landed at the harbour. Burgers, jacket potato and pies are among the regular offerings along with pineapple and banana fritters. The baked tattie was great, by the way. But there was a surprise on the menu on the day we visited. I asked what the soup of the day was and the answer: "Mince and tattie soup." Shocked but interested. I had to try it. Take a bow, Pauline, it was great, wee chunks of meat and packed with vegetables. Five-a-day not a problem. Fancied a sticky toffee pudding but was told to resist as we were heading for dinner in a local hotel that night.

Distinctly Average - Could do a lot better. Second time this week. Was there on Wednesday and again on Saturday. Wednesday was a good experience but Saturday we were met with the fire alarm going off. Not a good start. Service at first was good but then dropped off as the evening went on. Was left for 20 minutes waiting for a drinks order and eventually had to go to the bar to get attention and found 3 members of staff chatting. The food was extremely average. Goat cheese starter was over cooked on the outside and frozen on the inside. Main courses were all over done with the exception of the goulash . The "golden batter" was more a deep dark brown than anything and the chicken dishes were all dry and overcooked. The chicken burger was cremated and extremely dry but the bun and salsa was extremely stodgy. Presentation on Wednesday was really good but our meals on Saturday reminded us of school dinners extremely poor. basically thrown on a plate. All in all not a very good experience but the potential is there , as demonstrated on Wednesday. A little bit of extra time in preparation and presentation would help along with some new oil. All in all not good value for the money paid.
